EWR-FLL, FLL-EWR, LGA-IAH, IAH-LGA Economy. Quality seems to be slipping at CO. Is it just my
imagination, or have they reduced the seat recline, at least on 737s? On the whole, the interiors
are starting to feel somewhat worn, and while planes appear clean, they could smell better and have
fresher air. IFE is awful or non-existent. Return flight from IAH-LGA was cancelled without
explanation, and although I received a phone call several hours ahead, I found the flight still
listed as "on time" on the airport's departure screens (an error they apparently didn't notice until
I brought it to their attention)! Can't seem to decide whether they're a particularly good discount
airline or a subpar mainline airline!

LAX-EWR-GVA Economy - I'm 55 and can remember the time when the actual trip was as exciting and as
much fun as arriving at your destination, but those days are long gone. I have no specific
complaints about my trip other than general misery. I had 2 seats to myself near the rear of the
plane, which made things a little more pleasant, but it doesn't make a difference the lack of space
in front of you. The flight attendants were devoid of personality but were efficient, making
frequent water runs throughout the flights, although they were so sullen as to be robotic. The food
was appalling and very unattractively packaged. In this "green" age, trays and serving dishes made
of disposable styrofoam and cardboard can't be good for the ecology. I fly to Europe often,
sometimes Premium Economy, sometimes Business, so I know what each class has to offer, and the extra
legroom in B and PE is greatly appreciated, but it isn't glamorous anymore, just roomier. On our
flight, which was only half full, there weren't even enough pillows or blankets to go around. A
headset is $1, a glass of wine is $5 and I think it's disgraceful that on a transatlantic flight, an
Economy passenger can't get at least 1 free drink. Everything costs, everything's wrapped in
plastic, and it all looks/tastes/smells the same. Continental's training stuff should make it
mandatory that FAs smile at least once during each flight. Flinging attitude at passengers as
though you were in their way doesn't make the company they work for look very good or attract repeat
customers. I had the distinct impression that getting service out of they way so they could take a
nap (which they did behind a curtain at the rear of the plane) was their primary objective.

MAN-EWR return in Economy cabin. Slight delay on the outward journey but otherwise both flights on
time. Inflight service was good; food edible and cabin crew on both flights very helpful: lots of
water runs. Seat back entertainment on the outward flight a nice surprise as I didn't expect it;
not available on the return. I agree with other comments regarding the 757 aircraft; it really
isn't suitable for a transatlantic flight.

MAN-EWR-LAS return. Online check meant quick process at the airport on all legs (with Manchester the
slowest due to the additional security). MAN-EWR on 757-200 departed on time. Regular drinks
services were carried out. Both the meal and snack service were good by airline standards. Comfort
levels acceptable (757 fine seat pitch and seat width). Transfer without a hitch (much easier at EWR
than at ORD). EWR-LAS on 757-300 again on time. Service wasn't as good on this flight - I had to go
and get a drink from the galley myself at one point. One plus point of Continental is that they
still offer a hot snack for free on domestic flights which is much better than the overpriced
pretzels you get on other American carriers. Both return flights were much the same, however I
strongly recommend using the online check in facility 24 hours before departure. I was surprised
when checking in online, just how many seats become suddenly available. Due to this, we changed our
seats to exit rows on both flights which increased the comfort no end.

I purchased 3 round trip tickets to Las Vegas. When these tickets were purchased I requested a
Bulkhead Seat since my son is handicapped with one leg - a bulkhead seat would allow him to sit and
get up. I was told only one bulkhead seat was available going and on the return flight when these
reservations were made. When we got to the airport, no bulkhead seats were available. The
attendants assigned him to row 11A - I asked if they would please ask one of the young people (none
handicapped) to please change with him. This courtesy was denied. On the return flight, he was made
to stand until the entire plane was loaded before he was seated, again down the isle. I was shocked
at the dont care attitude for handicapped traveling on Continental Airlines. The help with wheel
chairs at the gate was excellent however.

BRS-EWR-BRS. Both with well worn 757's that are well past their best and not suitable for a
transatlantic flight. Seats cramped with no inflight entertainment other than tiny drop down
monitors. Food provided matches cabin crew - awful. The only thing going for them is the direct
flight to and from Bristol which is OK for the New York area but beware if you think you can use EWR
as an internal hub - it does not work. Its really a case of buyer beware.

7 February 2008 Customer Trip Rating :
BHX-EWR-DEN. BHX-EWR leg was amongst worst transatlantic flight we've ever had. Took off 0900.
Given one drink, no refill. Lunch literally thrown at us (no warning, before we had time to open
table) approx 1000; meal was dreadful even by usual poor airline food standards. Cabin crew then did
DF round and promptly disappeared until 1.5 hours out from EWR when we got one drink and the snack.
So, just 2 drinks during an 8 hour flight. No water/juice rounds by the crew, no drinks left out in
the galley. The 757 is not suitable for transatlantic flights; it is uncomfortable and inconvenient
for both passengers and cabin crew. BHX is an excellent airport. But we will not fly a 757
transatlantic again, so until Continental changes their aircraft on this route, we will use American
from Manchester instead. EWR-DEN flight was okay, although a couple of hours late, and certainly
the cabin crew was much better. On a 4 hour flight we had 2 full drinks runs, plus refills, plus at
least one water/juice run, and the snack was good.

Zurich-Mke in Business First. No lounge in the E dock on the Continental side, it was back in the
main terminal. The 767 is really getting old, worn seats and armrests. No Avod, just a small
selection of movies. The flight attendant service was good, but the food was just average with a
tough ribeye. Good wine and dessert service was a nice touch. The lounge at Newark was really
overcrowded in the late afternoon. Overall they need to think about updating their equipment and
lounges.

CGN-EWR-BOS Economy. Check-in staff in CGN incompetent, not helpful at all. A very outdated 757-200,
seats were narrow, offered hardly any recline and the whole airplane had a very unpleasant smell.
Inflight entertainment would have been OK (3 movies) if I would have been able to see anything on
the tiny size monitors that drop down from the ceiling, which allowed no viewing angle whatsoever.
FAs were friendly and food was good. Next time I would rather go into the hassle of connecting in
Frankfurt or even London to avoid the grumpy Continental ground staff and the really outdated plane.

LAX-EWR-BOM. LAX-EWR adequate. EWR to Mumbai a good flight. The food was excellent and it was a
new 777 with excellent inflight entertainment system. Mumbai to EWR a different story. It was an
older 777 with only 2 American Movies. My video screen didn't even work! The food was bland. EWR-
LAX a 737 and the seats seem very cramped.

Newark-Raleigh Economy. Flight delayed for almost 1H30, and waited in the President Club lounge.
Good service but poor food (apples and crisps) and reading material. Priority boarding for Business
and Elite members. Inflight service consisted in drinks (ie water, tea, coffee and soda) not even
the traditional pack of peanuts. Impossible to take a nap due to the constant barking male FA asking
passengers what they wanted to drink. Somehow a pretty basic US domestic flight experience.

CLE-SFO on January 1. I am an airline employee for another major US carrier and had purchased a
discount ticket on American Eagle out of Cleveland to JFK, so I could connect on my airline's non-
top to SFO. When I checked the board, I found that AA had canceled the CLE-JFK flight, so I bought
a reduced ticket (airline employee discount) on Continental instead. 737-800 was spotless, there
were about 30 empty seats and I had a window seat with no-one next to me. Crew fine, not
outstanding.

CLE-EWR-PEK Business First. It seems they put on the most experienced attendants that are full of
attitude and not really interested in serving the paying customer. They look at the flight as an
entitlement of their many years of service and not interested in serving customers. At least six
passengers ordered the steak entree and it had to be re-heated. It was odd, they just re-heated
(slightly) the meat - and not the rest of the meal. I didn't finish any of it. The new IFE is very
nice - 777/200 has hundreds of choices now. They should have a publication that matches the IFE
offerings. Breakfast on landing was equally cold - I didn't bother to send it back. I am a big fan
of Continental and will support its Shanghai service (commuting to PEK or HKG) to catch the flights
currently. However, when will US based airlines figure out that the customers pay for the tickets
and deserve better service!?

Birmingham to San Jose, Costa Rica via Newark. After the moans about 757-200's, we were pleasantly
surprised! After checking in online, BHX was a doddle, as we were through into the departure lounge
less than 20 minutes after being dropped off. Boarded in good time and found the seats comfortable.
Food and drinks service was ok. First time in Newark, and generally OK, except for the usual
extremely unpleasant immigration that contradicts the notice about good service etc. San Jose
flight on 737 - an evening snack was perfectly acceptable. The return was a mirror image. It would
be nice if they used the latest planes, but this service worked, was cost effective and convenient,
avoiding Heathrow was a real bonus.

SNA-IAH-CLE-ERI return. Efficient check-in via kiosk at SNA and with the counter agent in ERI.
Except for the two DASH-8 flights, service on CO's cramped 738a and 737-700s. Flight attendants
worked hard on the 737s, and on a full CLE-IAH flight, provided two full beverage services from the
cart, including full cans without having to ask for it, plus a water run. I appreciate the food on
CO, it is only a snack but it does help to pass the time.

1 January 2008 Customer Trip Rating :
My wife and I have just returned from a trip to New York flying with Continental Airlines. The
outward bound trip from Gatwick was on a 777-200 aircraft. Overall, we were pleased with the quality
of service, the comfort of the seats and the onboard entertainment systems provided during the
flight. The return flight however was a complete nightmare due largely to the ageing 757-200
aircraft that was used. The seats were uncomfortable and narrow, there was barely any elbow room to
eat the food that was provided and we were repeatedly told by the flight crew not to linger in the
aisles and to only use the three toilets provided for passengers in economy class. I feel it is
disgraceful that an airline such as Continental uses these short haul 757 aircraft, that has not
been reconfigured in any way whatsoever, to cope with the longer transcontinental flights. I have
flown with European budget carriers that have provided more legroom and comfort compared to
Continental. My advice - check out what aircraft this airline is intending to use before you book
with them. As a result of our lamentable experience on the return leg of our journey, we will never
use Continental Airlines again. A disappointing introduction to flying with an American carrier as
opposed to a UK alternative!

SVO via CDG to IAH . I enjoyed good service on Continental from CDG to IAH - quick boarding,
comfortable business class seats, good meal, huge choice of videos on demand. Slightly disappointing
was the "interrogation" prior to boarding. Flight attendants were friendly and somewhat artificial.
Overall, the service met expectations. Even though my office paid for the tickets, it is worth to
mention that ticket on Continental was twice cheaper than on Lufthansa for the same itinerary, and
about 15-20 per cent cheaper than any other carrier.

DCA-IAH : flight was very crowded and having flown on other US based airlines Continental seemed like
going in a cattle car. No food on a 3+ hour flight! Just a package of peanuts. Seemed like
everyone wanted to bring their luggage on the aircraft instead of check it and that made everything
very crowded. Beverage service was ok. Overall basic service, nothing to get excited about.

Ottawa EWR to Aruba Return. Excellent service but hot food very poor. I know movie selection cannot
please everyone but something that does not scare children or is for children only is more
appropriate on a long flight. I requested a seat change in EWR and the customer service rep was
pleasant and informed. Unfortunately on the way home I was next to an over 300 pound man that pushed
me out of my seat. Extremely overweight people should be moved when it is obvious that they are
causing distress to other passengers. I stood for most of the 4 hour flight. Also, we were in the
emergency exit seats and there is no way this man could help others, in fact he would obstruct the
pathway.

PTY-EWR-HKG return. Staff mostly mature, the ladies patient, but the men with not the best attitude.
B777-200 was comfortable. Meals adequate and frequent water runs. The entertainment system worked all
the way. Each seat with its own screen. PTY-EWR is on B737-800 with ample room as they were not full
and FAs were as attentive as ever on both runs. Meals here were ok. It seems that all Sky Team members
are charging $5 for each alcoholic beverage.

LGW-IAH, STL-EWR-LGW. Flew out to Houston on 777. Had problems with the Personal TV, all the seats in
my row segment suffered what looked like major interference in the screen. My headphone socket had a
dodgy connection. Staff weren't helpful at sorting the problem, although after a while they tried
resetting the system to no avail. Reasonable leg room, wine and food. The flight from St Louis was
originally going to be through Cleveland, but the connecting continental express flight was delayed so
was routed through Newark. Continental staff at cleveland helpful and gave me an extra legroom seat on
the transatlantic leg. EWR-LGW flight was on an old 757, the seats weren't hugely comfortable. On a 6
1/2 hour flight they only showed one film. I've flown with Continental several times now - I will make
sure I don't get put on a 757 for the transatlantic crossing.

LGW-EWR-SNA, LAX-EWR-LGW Economy. Bought the ticket on the continental website which was quite easy. I
was also able to select the seats on all the flights. That's where the good part ended and every
flight was a horror. Cramped seating, poor food and inflight entertainment. On the flight LA to EWR
flight attendants didn't bother to serve water upon request citing that they were busy! Continental
need to understand that flying is not just about leaving and arriving on time. It may not be cost
efficient for them to replace their ancient Boeings but they can surely hire better staff and serve
better food. My advise to anyone thinking of travelling on Continental to the US would be - think
again! There are other options out there, thankfully!

EWR-FCO (757-400ER), MXP-EWR(757-200ER) - BusinessFirst. Seats wide and comfortable, more than ample

accommodated a lot more luggage than we brought on board. Service excellent, professional and
friendly. The only minor negatives: seats not lie-flat sleepers. Sleeping comfortable enough on
relatively short overnight flight and return to US, but more pitch would be desirable. Entertainment
somewhat limited offering compared to the best international carriers, but ok for our needs.

Gatwick-Cleveland-Nashville. We had Economy seats and they were so small, very cramped, for a long
transatlantic flight (757-200) not able to walk about to stretch your legs, plane seemed a bit dated,
food was dreadful. FA helpful but only expect a glass of drink and not the whole can, you had to pay
for wine or spirits. FA's at the check-in at CO desk in Gatwick & Nashville were quite rude - they
hardly spoke to you. This was the worst airline that we have traveled to the USA - in future, I would
spend an extra £££ to travel with someone else.

BRS-EWR-BRS in Economy class. Whilst I enjoyed not having to go from Heathrow I found the Continental
experience somewhat disappointing. Small plane used on this route (757-200) coupled with a full flight
both ways made this journey the worst I have experienced on a transatlantic flight. Seats small and
lumber support virtually non-existent. Only 3 toilets in economy and nowhere that you could go and get
up and stretch your legs. I realise the Bristol to New York route could not sustain a larger plane
however I felt that I was travelling on Ryanair for a 7-hour flight. If you live in the southwest of
England and you are travelling to New York or a smaller US city where there is no direct flight from
the UK and if comfort is not overly important to you, then I would recommend Continental from Bristol.
If you are flying to one of the larger US cities where there is a direct flight from the UK and
comfort is important to you, I would recommend that you fly with another airline from another airport.

LGW-EWR-PTY round trip. On the outbound and return LGW/EWR portions, 777-200 was modern clean
and equipped with new AVOD, which was comprehensive, touch screen and easy to use. FA's polite and friendly and food adequate although not very inspiring
and they do charge for wine and alcohol. Transit through EWR seamless on both legs. EWR/PTY on a
737-800, again comfortable and with a reasonable snack and 2 drinks services. FA's again very
friendly on both legs. No complaints especially as the flights were fully paid with points. Their
Elite Access is a boon with priority boarding and check in and luggage allowance and expedited
handling. All in all a good product, as Mr Keller rather annoyingly is always reminding us, but
still my preferred choice across the Atlantic and on to Latin America.

EWR-PBI Domestic First. Chose to fly Continental First as none of the low cost carriers matched my
inbound flight to the US and there were no seats left in economy. Checked in at EWR using dedicated
ElitePass area that seems to cover International and Domestic First Class travellers. It is an area
with self serve check in that have staff on standby to check your ID. Went through priority security
which is of great benefit as you cut in to the last line of the snake. Headed towards the lounge but
not granted access! Domestic First doesn't get you into the President's club as it is called. I could
have boarded first as they called ElitePass/First members first but chose to wait until end. Offered a
drink once onboard. Seat clean, width good, clean 737-800. I chose only to have soup but passenger
next to me had full Beef tips with mushrooms dinner and was enthusiastic about it. On arrival at PBI
there was a slight delay in getting bags going but once it started the priority bags came off first.
Not cheap for a 2hour 20 minute flight ($350), but got the useful benefits of flying in a premium cabin.

EWR-ARN-EWR. BusinessFirst. Business class, seats 4A/B - space for recline between seats and wall is
so generous. Comfortable seats that give good support and cradle, plus it's nice to be in a cabin with
only 14 other pax (personable and efficient service from 2 FAs). Food was better from EWR. AVOD
excellent and varied. BusinessFirst lavatory is awful (small and dim). Plus, we ran out of gas on the
way home. Had to land at Stewart/Newburgh SWF to refuel after 8.5hrs in the air. Why does EWR not let
incoming long-hauls land? Not CO's problem, I know, but it puts a dent in ARN/TXL flights on 757s. As
ever, however, CO is the only American carrier to fly. Straightforward, connected, and affordable with
advance purchase.

MEX to EWR in Economy. This was a 4.5 hour flight in a 737-700. Check in at Mexico City was slow and
several of the e-ticket check in machines were either out of order or couldn't trigger luggage tags
- very annoying for the hard working Continental staff manning these machines. Plane was clean
although the seat pitch was rather tight. It was good to be served a simple 'lunch' (albeit offered
at 10.00am!). There were several drink and water services for this almost full flight, and the cabin
crew were efficient. Flight took off and arrived on time. Immigration facilities at Newark were a

immigration which meant we cleared immigration and collected our bags within 30 mins of leaving the

bad, legroom in Row 15 excellent. Problems started on arrival in Newark .Connecting flight to Omaha
that evening cancelled, for no apparent reason (believe it was because of low passenger numbers). Put
up for night in Hotel and put on stanDby for Saturday for 1310 flight. Unsuccessful even though our
bags were sent (according to Baggage staff it happens all the time!). Needed another night in Hotel
airline staff reluctant to pay for but relented after obtaining authority, plus a change of clothes
(quick visit to local shopping mall). Wife was already checked in on Sunday flight to Omaha (why did
we need stanDby on Saturday? ), and ended up cancelling my return flight to Omaha and returned to
Bristol on Sunday evening flight, after having spent a grand total of 53 hours in Newark Airport! My
wife arrived at her Hotel In Omaha 49 hours after arriving in Newark, and I arrived in Bristol 9.00

not very polished. I also questioned them as to why they were not
insisting for take-off that the passengers open their window shades, and
was told that for safety reasons, it should be closed. This was
confusing, as I was always under the impression that the window should
be open, in case of an engine fire etc. So it felt a little odd taking
off and I couldn't see outside at all.

EWR-FCO. Y class. Check-in smooth and boarding too. Departed and arrived
on time. Seat (16A) was comfortable and in the quiet front mini-cabin of
the B762. No menus provided and therefore the food choice was limited by
the primitive "chicken or pasta?". Dinner was absolutely inedible
(something they called lasagna and what seemed to be the remains of a
salad). Breakfast was good (croissant and salad fruit), though, albeit
in very small quantity. Some crew members were impolite; others were
very professional. There were PTVs, but the IFE is not AVOD and was
deteriorated; available movies were all of very doubtful quality. Slept
just after dinner and woke up for breakfast. Overall, it is a reliable
product, but still with too many flaws for a 4-star airline. In this
route, competition is not any better either way.

SNN-EWR-ATL Economy. I was surprised to see they used a 757 from SNN to
EWR -a long time for a narrow body aircraft. There was about 5 empty
seats on the economy cabin - good for CO, not so good for the customers.
Although space was tight I have to say the flight was pleasant, food
pretty good and crew nice. They do need some seat back video's however
and not the drop down video screen. I don't like having to pay for
alcohol. I paid $5 for a bottle of California red. I did appreciate that
economy seats had electric outlets to use my laptop and I didn't need an
adapter! The problem was the kid in front of me had his seat in a full
recline which made watching a movie on my screen impossible; such is
life.

3.5 star category, this flight would fit it.

AMS-EWR on their 757-200 in Economy and must say is not that bad. I'm
1.75m, weight 80 kilo and had a window seat. Didn't find it crammed.
Had a good flight, food tasted good for an airline. Constant rounds of
drinks. FA mostly in their 30's/40's but very professional & gave
excellent service.

AMS-IAH-SFO and back in Economy. Boeing 767 is quite comfortable if one
of the few unoccupied seats happens to be next to you - which was the
case both on AMS-IAH and IAH-AMS. IAH is chaotic. All flights were
arriving and leaving late. The connecting flight IAH-SFO left four hours
late, arriving at SFO at 3 am. No form of assistance was provided.

Shannon-Newark-New Orleans return in Economy. Found the service
satisfactory. Onboard catering was a disappointment - bland and
unimaginative. I found the ground staff in Newark to be quite frankly
rude - especially around the whole area of baggage transfer!

Economy EWR-TLV-EWR. The new B777 AVOD system on the return leg died 10
minutes after takeoff and could not (or possibly would not - the cabin
steward said something about circuit breakers with high voltage
warnings) restart. It made for a boring flight but to their credit, the
flight crew tried hard. When will CO distinguish between the older and
newer B777s so you know which ones have the AVOD system and AC ports and
which ones charge extra for the so-called "Premium" seats?

EWR-LGW-EWR, Economy. Last-minute purchase. Seated in the last row,
window, both ways - 34A. Fully aware of small aircraft on this route
(757-200), but seats were night and day in difference. On the outbound
overnight the seat had a great recline with the seat bottom sliding
forward a bit. Very comfortable. Return dayflight, seats hard as rock
with minimal recline and noticeably reduced width. In addition, each
seat creaked loudly whenever anyone moved. 757s don't deal as well with
turbulence as 777s, but they are easier to board and disembark. Both
flights departed on time, arrived early, and were professionally
staffed. Two nice touches on Continental - flight attendants at the back
of the plane introduced themselves prior to take-off, and drinks and
meals were served from both the front and the back of Economy. For
miles, schedules and reliability, Continental is light-years ahead of
other American carriers.

Man to EWR - B757, Economy. Lucky managed to obtain Exit seats - flight
60% full -FA's not welcoming. EWR-TPA B757, Economy service was poor,
food poor quality. TPA-EWR-MAN : Both flights on B757 - both were
delayed. Service were below standard, food very poor. Wish Continental
change the type of aircraft for flights from UK to the USA.

BRU-EWR-SJO in businessfirst. BRU-EWR left one hour late, no IFE at all
during the whole flight. Food horrible. EWR-SJO left as well one hour
late. Very unfriendly crew, constantly chatting amongst themselves about
their working conditions instead of serving passengers. Return flight
SJO-EWR delayed for over 4 hours due to late incoming flight, and no
reserve crew available. This was the 2nd time this happens to me (last
time they also managed, besides delays which made me lose connection
flights, to lose my luggage), on two consecutive occasions when flying
with CO, within 6 months. I got so fed up I changed to Delta, flying
SJO-ATL-BRU. Much better, and on time. I take this route 6-7 times a
year, and of all the carriers I flew with, Continental Airlines is by
far the worst in performance.

Just travelled from MAN to EWR and back. Both flights were on a 757-200 and this plane is far too
small for a transatlantic flight. The seats are very narrow and you are crammed in next to
strangers with absolutely no elbow room, which made it very difficult to eat the meals. Also the
food was probably the worst I've had on any airline. The FA's however were very good.

MSY-IAH-SNA Economy. Check-in quick, efficient at MSY, and managed to
change my MSY-IAH seat to an exit aisle. Quick beverage service for the
50 minute flight. IAH jammed on a Friday afternoon of a three day
weekend. Boarding at IAH orderly for a full load, with an on-time
departure. The seats on the 737-700 are very uncomfortable with little
leg room and the drop down video is difficult to watch. But the two
flight attendants in the back were quick and friendly, and the hot pre-
packaged greasy pizza hit the spot (served with a tasteless container of
lettuce). Two beverage services with the cart and one water run. I was
surprised to find my bags waiting when I got to baggage claim. A
pleasant experience at a good price.
