EWR-ORD-EWR on a 737-700 outbound and 737-500 inbound. The fares were decent enough and a
decent product. The seats are cramped as expected but that's to be expected. On the return
from ORD, check-in took less than 5 minutes while ORD security took about 10 minutes. We sat
around on board for over 2 hours due to the security breach in EWR while the pilot gave us
updates every 30 minutes or so. Granted, everyone was checking CNN so we had more info that
what the flight deck gave us. Upon landing, we had to wait over an hour for a gate to open,
but these can't be blamed on Continental. On both legs the FA's were polite and smiling.

MAN-EWR. I travelled back to the US on the first day of the new TSA regulations. I have to
commend everyone at Continental for the way they handled a new and somewhat confusing
situation with professionalism, courtesy and good humor. Our flight took 90 mins to board,
since each passenger was subject to a "pat down" and all carry-on luggage was very vigorously
inspected. Onboard, the crew made the wait comfortable, offering drinks and chatting with
passengers as the boarding process continued. Once in the air, we enjoyed impeccable service.
Since IFE was switched off (Continental had no way to leave it on without also leaving on the
SkyMap, which the TSA had also prohibited), so I slept for the bulk of the trip and was
awakened 90 mins to landing by the new security announcements, advising passengers about the
new rules for landing (no blankets, no standing etc). Again, the crew made the best of a bad
situation.

Heathrow to Newark the day after the new security alert. BAA Security was fully staffed,
efficient and we were through in no time. Sadly Continental's own third-party vendor was doing
the new secondary gate checks and they didn't have enough staff to cope with a full 777. Hence
the 3 hour boarding process. Captain announced after doors closed that new security
instructions from TSA meant that the entertainment system could not be used at all throughout
the 7.5 hour flight. Really poor that they didn't mention this at check in or during the 3
hour queue to get on the plane so we could get extra books, magazines etc. Flight crew divided
between the friendly and personable and those that hate their jobs and just offend people with
every snippy comment they make.

Continental Airlines provides basic service. But their rudeness at the check-in desk and their
inability to locate my bag for 4 days is enough to persuade me not to fly with them again. At
the check-in desk, two of the three available staff were busy chatting with each other for a
good 10 minutes and would not be interrupted. When I was given attention, I was informed to
use the machine and then left alone before I could explain the message on the screen telling
me I couldn't use it to check in. After a few days when I called about the bag, they had no
idea where it was located or which airline system it was in at the time. The whole process was
very frustrating and I would rather spend a few extra dollars than put up with that again.

PBI-EWR on Christmas Day. I'm a Silver Elite on Continental and get upgrades about 35-40% of
the time - was going to fly the day after Xmas but chose to fly the day of instead. Almost
empty airport and planes, got the complimentary upgrade on a 757-200. FAs courteous and
personable. Food tolerable at best, but just a short two hour hop so wasn't expecting much.
Champagne was nice. Atmosphere on the plane was wonderful and especially with segregated 1st
class on the 752, it was a very quiet and private flight. Overall, very professional and
courteous - felt as though I was already on the EWR-LHR route the plane was heading to next.
I would recommend Continental as the best domestic US carrier, especially on the basis of
their liberal Elite program.

If you have kids don't fly with Continental as they see kids as just a nuisance. We travelled
from the UK to Puerto Vallarta via Houston and will never use Continental ever again - if they
hate having kids, then don't accept bookings for them but if you take their money then have
the decency to look after them!

Continental offers the only NY-Oslo non stop. Full flight. Smaller plane, B757. Economy seats
ok. Continental lounge at EWR is tired and staff are bored. However, young hard working, crew
on the plane. On time, good announcements but didn't overdo it. Food just ok, but this is
unusual these days for US airlines. Excellent entertainment system. Long wait for bags in
Oslo. All said, this is the best US major airline. With a little more work, they could and
should get into a 4 star category.

We used several flights with continental during our trip to the US. We now see why the prices
were so cheap. Easily the worst airline we have flown with. We checked into San Francisco
airport and thought all was well. Luggage went in etc and were stopped as we were boarding the
flight to say we did not have a confirmed ticket. Then told that our luggage is gone but we
could not. How safe is that? Not sure if the regulations allow unaccompanied baggage on
flights. Then we were in a queue for nearly 2 hrs to sort out our next flight - they tried to
cheat us by compensating us only 200 dollars for their error. However when I looked into the
small print (and legal jargon) I found they actually owed me nearly 2000 dollars (based on
their own rules). When pointed out, suddenly tickets became available on another airline and
they put us on it. They did however compensate us according to the rules and gave us 1200
dollars. Does not say much about their integrity.

FLL-IAH-GIG-IAH-FLL. Continental has started, a few months ago, a daily nonstop flight between
Houston and Rio de Janeiro. The equipment is a new B767-400ER aircraft. Seat width and pitch
decent. There is a personal IFE screen with good programming. In this 10-hour flight,
Continental serves dinner after take-off with a very light-breakfast close to arrival.
On the 2-hour segments, from FLL to IAH, a complimentary snack was served. Although there is a
charge for alcoholic beverages, headset is free on international flights and staff do several
rounds of water and juices. Cabin staff were professional and courteous. I'm not saying that
CO is an award winning airline - I flew Singapore Airlines in economy a month ago, and it does
put Continental to shame. Having said that, aircraft on all segments were new, pilots were
informative and flights on time. Continental offer a better product than DL and AA.

First Class Seattle to Ft Lauderdale with a change of planes in Houston. Started out poorly
when we arrived 2 hours early in Seattle and were not permitted into the First class lounge.
They said only for international passengers and premium club members. We are used to Alaska
Airlines where all First class passengers are appreciated. We were told to go to Starbucks to
get a cup of coffee. As far as I could see, there were no passengers in the lounge. The
flight to Houston was fine, served a nice lunch. When we bought the tickets it said we would
be served lunch on the Seattle Houston leg and dinner on the Houston Ft Lauderdale leg. When
we took off for Ft Lauderdale, there was no food on board except for pretzels. I showed the
flight attendant my ticket receipt saying we got dinner. We feel we paid for first class
service but received coach service. I was very disappointed with the way we were treated.

London-Newark-Fort Myers return with Continental. Generally service was reasonable with
flights on time, clean, newish aircraft and passable food. What spoiled the experience was the
discovery, on checking at Fort Myers on the return trip, that the economy baggage allowance
had recently changed and we were charged $100 as we each had 2 bags to check. It is
disgraceful that this major change in terms and conditions was not made clear at the time of
booking or even on the electronic ticket. If it had been I may have been able to choose
another carrier or cut down on checked baggage. I now understand that most airlines have
recently made the same change in transatlantic baggage allowance. There has been little or no
general publicity on this and I have no knowledge of how other airlines have handled the
transition. Continental's apparent policy on this change however - not to clearly inform
customers, potential or actual - amounts to sharp practice designed to extort extra revenue
from unwitting travellers. For this reason I doubt if I shall use them again.
