Newark ground operations for Continental is the worst I have experienced in decades of travel. The
place borders on chaos. Avoid any Continental flight through Newark. I had a canceled flight with
lost luggage and was treated with completed disregard by the ground crew there. It took me 24 hours
to get back out and they could not locate my luggage. Their main concern was placating and
misleading passengers to get away with doing as little as possible.

A return flight Los Angeles-Copenhagen via Newark in BusinessFirst. Despite the rather small B757,
the seats were comfortable yet a bit "old style". FAs were efficient and food was great!
On my return, the flight from EWR-LAX wasn't as comfy since it was a much older plane with old, wide
seats and old private screens. But again, food was good. I won't give them 5 stars since the seats
are nothing close to what you mostly experience on transatlantic flights. But despite that, a good
flight experience.

Tel Aviv to Newark BusinessFirst - this service really is substandard. Basically what you get for
the premium fare is a lot of space, but seats are outdated, difficult to adjust, never entirely
comfortable for sleeping. The tv monitors are plain old and shoddy, unpleasant to view. The trays
are poorly designed, hardly stable. The flight attendants were quite professional. Very ordinary
wines, served with true airplane food. Even the warm nuts were boring! We were served a dinner a
little after takeoff. It was a slight cut above what economy food used to be. Then a few hours
later, we were served a hunk of bread with a thin slice of chicken or turkey and about 90 minutes
before landing, they served corned beef sandwiches.

Delhi to Newark business class was quite good when compared to the awful, deteriorating service on
AA. Much wider seats and 2x2x2 configuration superior to 2x3x2 on AA's 777s. Flight attendants
friendly. Didn't use IFE. Food good and plentiful. Plane clean, again a contrast to AA. EWR to MIA
was in coach, however, as F class booked.

PHL to Cabo San Lucas and back with a layover in Houston. I had the worst nightmare of 2 little
monster children sitting behind me. They tore up the in flight magazine and annoyed everyone on
the plane with their screaming/kicking/etc. I asked the flight attendant numerous times to do
something about it - I guess there is really nothing they can do. Other than that, I was satisfied.

NRT-EWR BusinessFirst. The food was tasty. The service felt paced and unhurried. The new AVOD
listing over 300 movies to watch. The cushioning of the seat is comfortable, but the slant makes it
slightly awkward for sleeping. Flight attendants were extremely senior, and one in particular
consistently forgot drink requests. Although senior, they were professional. All in all, pleasant
for such a long flight, and will use them again on this service.

On a first class flight from Ft Meyers we had 6 tickets, 4 adults and 2 children. The flight took
2hrs 27 mins and during the flight we were only given a small bag a nuts. Beverages were served,
however, I would expect a snack of some kind in first class. With the price of (6) tickets a
$695.00 each, the only difference was the size of the seats. Continental should be ashamed of this
kind of service at top rate prices. I will consider another airline on future trips to Florida and
elsewhere.

PTY-IAH-DEN return. FA's service was fake, and they were very old. Food and beverage was acceptable
and entertainment was acceptable until I found the movies and sitcoms were exactly the same on both
flights. Flying home, Houston-Panama City flight departed an hour and 10 minutes late. We were
sitting at the aircraft doing nothing and as expected, the flight got home late. Overall, it was
better than American Airlines.

6 April 2008 Customer Trip Rating :
I have noticed that their standards seem to be slipping. Continental baggage handlers at Newark were
dreadful. It wasn't that the guy simply flung them onto the belt, rather he had the nerve to lift
them up to shoulder height and then throw them down, all the while knowing that we were watching.
FAs not longer seem to have a 'can do' attitude, more a 'can't do.' My mother is less-abled and
struggles to use standard toilets at the best of times, let alone airline ones. She was abruptly
told that she couldn't use the disabled toilet because it was in the First Class cabin. Personally,
I feel this is discrimination and is sending out the wrong message: if you are disabled you can only
fly with us but only if you pay to travel First Class.

GVA-EWR-GVA Economy, 767-400. Seats slightly better than Swiss, usual Pasta or chicken, not very

Manchester to Newark. I booked online specifying that I was a vegetarian, this info did not filter
through to the right people so there was no food for me. This would not have been a problem but for
the treatment I received from a woman billing herself as the chief flight attendant. I was offered
the meat meal 3 times to pick out the veggie bits - I didn't really fancy doing this and said no.
The FA said she'd try find me something but was rude to me in front of other passengers. I've
always flown with BA to New York before and I'll never use Continental again.

EWR-LAS. Flight was on 757-200, seats were a little worn but the toilets were clean. FAs were
efficient if not the most cheerful. A meal of salad and beef and cheese sandwich was provided
although the latter was pretty awful - a surprise to be given any free food at all for an internal
US flight. Flight cost just under $200 and would use them again especially as they fly out of
Newark which is pleasant airport.

27 March 2008 Customer Trip Rating :
I was disappointed with my BusinessFirst service. I flew round trip to San Francisco (SFO) from
Houston (IAH) on BusinessFirst for about four times the cost of coach. On this trip, I arrived and
sought entry into the PC but I was denied because my flight was domestic, not international. Once
onboard, each passenger received one small package of cashews. I requested another later and was
told the airline only allocated one package per BusinessFirst class passenger. While the nut issue
was minor, it was irritating. But I was more than irritated about being turned away at the PC.
Here I gave them a sizable premium and they are so miserly. Before this I would always choose
Continental.

ZRH-TPA return Economy. Boeing 767 used on the ZRH-EWR route are still newish and quite comfortable.
IFE is OK though not 'on demand' as on some other carriers. Cabin crews have always been friendly
and professional. Food is nothing to write home about. Choice has been exactly the same on all
flights for the last couple of years. They must by purchasing beef and chicken in bulk on multi-year
contracts. A premium economy choice would be nice as all other carriers between Switzerland and the
US are doing exactly the same.

EWR-HNL return. Business First in 767-400. Like previous contributors, I now rate Continental my
preferred carrier to Hawaii, though the competition from the mainland to Hawaii in first class is
pretty poor. Comfortable seats, though not up to the standards of top-flight international business
class. Good meals, decent entertainment, though not on demand. Very good service by FAs from EWR to
HNL, but overnight return trip was a bit distracted, with FAs largely unseen. Ground service at EWR
can be spotty. In this case, we waited more than 20 minutes for the jetway before deplaning.

LAX-HNL in First Class. I was pleased with the aircraft, meals and service on this morning flight
Los Angeles to Honolulu. The plane, a B767-400 was clean with 2-1-2 seating in Business First. The
cabin crew was attentive. The meal was probably the best I have experienced airborne and the best
aboard any US carrier. IFE system is not the most comprehensive when compared with others available
but fine for the 5.5 hour flight. I travel several time a year to Hawaii and will make CO my
preferred carrier.

Boston-Newark. Plane was clean and pleasant, leg space comfy for a short flight. The flight
attendants - no smiling, welcoming people or anything that looked like service. Got my snack and
juice, tried smiling but they were in a hurry. This is the second time I flew Continental (also flew
POS- EWR) and I really think the FA's should learn how to be more service minded and less rude.

LGW-EWR Return. Booked 3 months in advance, selected seat at booking. Checked in online night
before outbound flight, via PDA in hotel for return flight morning of flight. At Gatwick all was
quick and easy, no delays at security. Flight on 777 not full, crew pleasant & friendly, food
acceptable for airline food. Toilet clean. Personal video (not on demand programme though) and
generally pleasant experience. Arrival at EWR was fine, minimal queue at immigration, easy bus ride
to Manhattan. Returned via EWR, shortish queue to bag drop, no queue at security. Confusion as to
gate, as boarding card stated different number to display screens. Boarded by row numbers, flight
was full. Both airports were fine, prefer LGW to LHR as parking is easier / cheaper. Overall EWR was
on par with LGW, I do hope with the start of services from LHR Continental don't drop the LGW
service.

First time with Continental LGW to New York Newark – Economy. Check in quick and easy both legs.
Gatwick ground staff excellent. Not so Newark - boarding at a shambles unable to hear announcements
for boarding pass numbers. Planes good and clean, but service on board poor with sullen robotic
staff. For the first time ever I was served from behind with drinks meaning I had to turn around in
my window seat and negotiate my hot drink over the head of my neighbour. When I mentioned this
dangerous practice to the FA my comments were greeted with a shrug. Food (chicken and rice)
inedible apart from the tiny wrapped chocolate bar. Flights on time and tickets cheaper than
competitors – so I suppose you get what you pay for.

MAN-EWR Economy. I was not looking forward to this flight (757-200) for obvious reasons. The
outbound flight wasn't too bad though, better legroom than I had expected and friendly crew.
Because it was a day flight, the fact that it was a tiny plane didn't really matter too much as we
were a party of 6 so we chatted most of the way. The entertainment was poor (drop down screens).
The return journey was awful. Just what I was dreading. You really feel the size of the 757-200
when you are being jolted for 2 hours over the Atlantic Ocean with bad turbulence. You couldn't
relax and really felt the cramped conditions. The crew were devoid of personality and came across
as really cold. Overall, not a great experience. I will pay extra next time and fly with BA.

EWR-FLL, FLL-EWR, LGA-IAH, IAH-LGA Economy. Quality seems to be slipping at CO. Is it just my
imagination, or have they reduced the seat recline, at least on 737s? On the whole, the interiors
are starting to feel somewhat worn, and while planes appear clean, they could smell better and have
fresher air. IFE is awful or non-existent. Return flight from IAH-LGA was cancelled without
explanation, and although I received a phone call several hours ahead, I found the flight still
listed as "on time" on the airport's departure screens (an error they apparently didn't notice until
I brought it to their attention)! Can't seem to decide whether they're a particularly good discount
airline or a subpar mainline airline!

9 March 2008 Customer Trip Rating :
LAX-EWR-GVA Economy - I'm 55 and can remember the time when the actual trip was as exciting and as
much fun as arriving at your destination, but those days are long gone. I have no specific
complaints about my trip other than general misery. I had 2 seats to myself near the rear of the
plane, which made things a little more pleasant, but it doesn't make a difference the lack of space
in front of you. The flight attendants were devoid of personality but were efficient, making
frequent water runs throughout the flights, although they were so sullen as to be robotic. The food
was appalling and very unattractively packaged. In this "green" age, trays and serving dishes made
of disposable styrofoam and cardboard can't be good for the ecology. I fly to Europe often,
sometimes Premium Economy, sometimes Business, so I know what each class has to offer, and the extra
legroom in B and PE is greatly appreciated, but it isn't glamorous anymore, just roomier. On our
flight, which was only half full, there weren't even enough pillows or blankets to go around. A
headset is $1, a glass of wine is $5 and I think it's disgraceful that on a transatlantic flight, an
Economy passenger can't get at least 1 free drink. Everything costs, everything's wrapped in
plastic, and it all looks/tastes/smells the same. Continental's training stuff should make it
mandatory that FAs smile at least once during each flight. Flinging attitude at passengers as
though you were in their way doesn't make the company they work for look very good or attract repeat
customers. I had the distinct impression that getting service out of they way so they could take a
nap (which they did behind a curtain at the rear of the plane) was their primary objective.

MAN-EWR return in Economy cabin. Slight delay on the outward journey but otherwise both flights on
time. Inflight service was good; food edible and cabin crew on both flights very helpful: lots of
water runs. Seat back entertainment on the outward flight a nice surprise as I didn't expect it;
not available on the return. I agree with other comments regarding the 757 aircraft; it really
isn't suitable for a transatlantic flight.

MAN-EWR-LAS return. Online check meant quick process at the airport on all legs (with Manchester the
slowest due to the additional security). MAN-EWR on 757-200 departed on time. Regular drinks
services were carried out. Both the meal and snack service were good by airline standards. Comfort
levels acceptable (757 fine seat pitch and seat width). Transfer without a hitch (much easier at EWR
than at ORD). EWR-LAS on 757-300 again on time. Service wasn't as good on this flight - I had to go
and get a drink from the galley myself at one point. One plus point of Continental is that they
still offer a hot snack for free on domestic flights which is much better than the overpriced
pretzels you get on other American carriers. Both return flights were much the same, however I
strongly recommend using the online check in facility 24 hours before departure. I was surprised
when checking in online, just how many seats become suddenly available. Due to this, we changed our
seats to exit rows on both flights which increased the comfort no end.

I purchased 3 round trip tickets to Las Vegas. When these tickets were purchased I requested a
Bulkhead Seat since my son is handicapped with one leg - a bulkhead seat would allow him to sit and
get up. I was told only one bulkhead seat was available going and on the return flight when these
reservations were made. When we got to the airport, no bulkhead seats were available. The
attendants assigned him to row 11A - I asked if they would please ask one of the young people (none
handicapped) to please change with him. This courtesy was denied. On the return flight, he was made
to stand until the entire plane was loaded before he was seated, again down the isle. I was shocked
at the dont care attitude for handicapped traveling on Continental Airlines. The help with wheel
chairs at the gate was excellent however.

BRS-EWR-BRS. Both with well worn 757's that are well past their best and not suitable for a
transatlantic flight. Seats cramped with no inflight entertainment other than tiny drop down
monitors. Food provided matches cabin crew - awful. The only thing going for them is the direct
flight to and from Bristol which is OK for the New York area but beware if you think you can use EWR
as an internal hub - it does not work. Its really a case of buyer beware.

BHX-EWR-DEN. BHX-EWR leg was amongst worst transatlantic flight we've ever had. Took off 0900.
Given one drink, no refill. Lunch literally thrown at us (no warning, before we had time to open
table) approx 1000; meal was dreadful even by usual poor airline food standards. Cabin crew then did
DF round and promptly disappeared until 1.5 hours out from EWR when we got one drink and the snack.
So, just 2 drinks during an 8 hour flight. No water/juice rounds by the crew, no drinks left out in
the galley. The 757 is not suitable for transatlantic flights; it is uncomfortable and inconvenient
for both passengers and cabin crew. BHX is an excellent airport. But we will not fly a 757
transatlantic again, so until Continental changes their aircraft on this route, we will use American
from Manchester instead. EWR-DEN flight was okay, although a couple of hours late, and certainly
the cabin crew was much better. On a 4 hour flight we had 2 full drinks runs, plus refills, plus at
least one water/juice run, and the snack was good.

Zurich-Mke in Business First. No lounge in the E dock on the Continental side, it was back in the
main terminal. The 767 is really getting old, worn seats and armrests. No Avod, just a small
selection of movies. The flight attendant service was good, but the food was just average with a
tough ribeye. Good wine and dessert service was a nice touch. The lounge at Newark was really
overcrowded in the late afternoon. Overall they need to think about updating their equipment and
lounges.

CGN-EWR-BOS Economy. Check-in staff in CGN incompetent, not helpful at all. A very outdated 757-200,
seats were narrow, offered hardly any recline and the whole airplane had a very unpleasant smell.
Inflight entertainment would have been OK (3 movies) if I would have been able to see anything on
the tiny size monitors that drop down from the ceiling, which allowed no viewing angle whatsoever.
FAs were friendly and food was good. Next time I would rather go into the hassle of connecting in
Frankfurt or even London to avoid the grumpy Continental ground staff and the really outdated plane.

Good service but poor food (apples and crisps) and reading material. Priority boarding for Business

the traditional pack of peanuts. Impossible to take a nap due to the constant barking male FA asking
passengers what they wanted to drink. Somehow a pretty basic US domestic flight experience.

CLE-SFO on January 1. I am an airline employee for another major US carrier and had purchased a
discount ticket on American Eagle out of Cleveland to JFK, so I could connect on my airline's non-
top to SFO. When I checked the board, I found that AA had canceled the CLE-JFK flight, so I bought
a reduced ticket (airline employee discount) on Continental instead. 737-800 was spotless, there
were about 30 empty seats and I had a window seat with no-one next to me. Crew fine, not

CLE-EWR-PEK Business First. It seems they put on the most experienced attendants that are full of
attitude and not really interested in serving the paying customer. They look at the flight as an
entitlement of their many years of service and not interested in serving customers. At least six
passengers ordered the steak entree and it had to be re-heated. It was odd, they just re-heated
(slightly) the meat - and not the rest of the meal. I didn't finish any of it. The new IFE is very
nice - 777/200 has hundreds of choices now. They should have a publication that matches the IFE
offerings. Breakfast on landing was equally cold - I didn't bother to send it back. I am a big fan
of Continental and will support its Shanghai service (commuting to PEK or HKG) to catch the flights
currently. However, when will US based airlines figure out that the customers pay for the tickets
and deserve better service!?

Birmingham to San Jose, Costa Rica via Newark. After the moans about 757-200's, we were pleasantly
surprised! After checking in online, BHX was a doddle, as we were through into the departure lounge
less than 20 minutes after being dropped off. Boarded in good time and found the seats comfortable.
Food and drinks service was ok. First time in Newark, and generally OK, except for the usual
extremely unpleasant immigration that contradicts the notice about good service etc. San Jose
flight on 737 - an evening snack was perfectly acceptable. The return was a mirror image. It would
be nice if they used the latest planes, but this service worked, was cost effective and convenient,
avoiding Heathrow was a real bonus.

SNA-IAH-CLE-ERI return. Efficient check-in via kiosk at SNA and with the counter agent in ERI.
Except for the two DASH-8 flights, service on CO's cramped 738a and 737-700s. Flight attendants
worked hard on the 737s, and on a full CLE-IAH flight, provided two full beverage services from the

My wife and I have just returned from a trip to New York flying with Continental Airlines. The
outward bound trip from Gatwick was on a 777-200 aircraft. Overall, we were pleased with the quality
of service, the comfort of the seats and the onboard entertainment systems provided during the
flight. The return flight however was a complete nightmare due largely to the ageing 757-200
aircraft that was used. The seats were uncomfortable and narrow, there was barely any elbow room to
eat the food that was provided and we were repeatedly told by the flight crew not to linger in the
aisles and to only use the three toilets provided for passengers in economy class. I feel it is
disgraceful that an airline such as Continental uses these short haul 757 aircraft, that has not
been reconfigured in any way whatsoever, to cope with the longer transcontinental flights. I have
flown with European budget carriers that have provided more legroom and comfort compared to
Continental. My advice - check out what aircraft this airline is intending to use before you book
with them. As a result of our lamentable experience on the return leg of our journey, we will never
use Continental Airlines again. A disappointing introduction to flying with an American carrier as
opposed to a UK alternative!

comfortable business class seats, good meal, huge choice of videos on demand. Slightly disappointing
was the "interrogation" prior to boarding. Flight attendants were friendly and somewhat artificial.
Overall, the service met expectations. Even though my office paid for the tickets, it is worth to
mention that ticket on Continental was twice cheaper than on Lufthansa for the same itinerary, and
about 15-20 per cent cheaper than any other carrier.

Ottawa EWR to Aruba Return. Excellent service but hot food very poor. I know movie selection cannot
please everyone but something that does not scare children or is for children only is more
appropriate on a long flight. I requested a seat change in EWR and the customer service rep was
pleasant and informed. Unfortunately on the way home I was next to an over 300 pound man that pushed
me out of my seat. Extremely overweight people should be moved when it is obvious that they are
causing distress to other passengers. I stood for most of the 4 hour flight. Also, we were in the
emergency exit seats and there is no way this man could help others, in fact he would obstruct the
pathway.

LGW-IAH, STL-EWR-LGW. Flew out to Houston on 777. Had problems with the Personal TV, all the seats in
my row segment suffered what looked like major interference in the screen. My headphone socket had a
dodgy connection. Staff weren't helpful at sorting the problem, although after a while they tried
resetting the system to no avail. Reasonable leg room, wine and food. The flight from St Louis was
originally going to be through Cleveland, but the connecting continental express flight was delayed so
was routed through Newark. Continental staff at cleveland helpful and gave me an extra legroom seat on
the transatlantic leg. EWR-LGW flight was on an old 757, the seats weren't hugely comfortable. On a 6
1/2 hour flight they only showed one film. I've flown with Continental several times now - I will make
sure I don't get put on a 757 for the transatlantic crossing.

LGW-EWR-SNA, LAX-EWR-LGW Economy. Bought the ticket on the continental website which was quite easy. I
was also able to select the seats on all the flights. That's where the good part ended and every
flight was a horror. Cramped seating, poor food and inflight entertainment. On the flight LA to EWR
flight attendants didn't bother to serve water upon request citing that they were busy! Continental
need to understand that flying is not just about leaving and arriving on time. It may not be cost
efficient for them to replace their ancient Boeings but they can surely hire better staff and serve
better food. My advise to anyone thinking of travelling on Continental to the US would be - think
again! There are other options out there, thankfully!
