MAN-EWR-MAN recently, B757 was clean, comfortable and not claustrophobic. I had extra leg room seats, paid extra one way - worth it as you may get row to yourself. On demand IFE had good library of films (but hardly recent blockbusters). Food was pretty poor and booze not free. FAs helpful enough.

Business First LHR-EWR-LHR. New seating and IFE - flat bed at slight herringbone angle was comfortable, AVOD very good quality with wide range of programmes. Food and service excellent on both journeys.

IAH-FRA travelling with an infant and a toddler and the horror started at check in. Our check in took almost an hour and we were assigned 3 seats in 3 different sections, the flight was overbooked apparently. When we got to the gate, the agent told me that the toddler did not have a ticket and I had to go buy one from the customer service desk (??), so I went and they checked their system and said I do not need one since I had already paid for one - back to the gate agent to try and shuffle seats around. The agent was not at all helpful and suggested we talk to stewards on the plane. Long story short we swapped seats with some passengers who felt sorry for the situation we were in, and were able to travel seated together. Continental service in the air is horrible.

Edinburgh via Newark to Orlando, I would warn anyone from using this airline - they are the pits. Flight delayed at Edinburgh for 2 hours due to inclement weather in Newark. This in itself was not a major issue - it happens - the flight itself was okay certainly lacked the luster and class of British Airways. On arrival at Newark we encountered many problems. We had to wait for 40 minutes for luggage to arrive and many on the flight realised we had all missed our ongoing connections - 2 ladies were sitting in the luggage area chatting and drinking coffee on closer inspection they both had Continental employee tags on, when approached neither were too happy at being disturbed from their chat and were extremely rude on asking a very basic question. At no point did they bother to stand up or stop their chatter and find out if there was indeed a problem. Now that our party of 6 had missed our connection we had the misfortune to encounter the Customer Services section - these people are a disgrace to Continental and Newark airport - they were rude and informed us that there was nothing they could - we would just have to hang about the airport until a flight became available and they had no idea when that would be. We were sent to a gate as standby passengers and did not get on that flight. Eventually we were booked on a flight to go via Charlotte to Orlando and told we would have to pick up our boarding passes at Charlotte, as that journey was to be carried out by US Airways. On arrival at Charlotte they had reserved 6 seats but only booked 2 - so the other 4 in the party was on standby again and flight was full. Continental showed no integrity as a company, they had people running all over the terminal, some with disabled children and elderly travellers. A disgraceful way to treat paying passengers and I will never travel with this airline again.

Newark to Shanghai PVG round trip Business Class. The food quality was awful and shameful. My seat was broken and represented as lay flat - but actually was angled by 20 degrees and impossible to sleep. There were no amenities in the bathrooms, flight attendants were not attentive and I had to ask for water, etc.

MAN-EWR-LAS. MAN to EWR fine but flew on a 757 which is a bit small for a transatlantic flight. Crew nice and very informative although one lady did tell my husband off for how he asked for a coffee, apparently you should ask if you want sugar and cream. Entertainment was excellent. The food and drink was good. After changing at EWR which was a farce due to immigration, we flew to Las Vegas on another 757. To our dismay you had to pay for the entertainment at $6 each. Food was very poor, a chicken and cheese fajita with a packet of baby carrots. Staff were helpful and kept the drinks coming.

HKG-Newark. First problem is the HK office does not answer its calls. You get a weird message in chinese, then a message in english, then no-one answered phone. We tried to call many times and no answer at all. Flight was okay - usual sullen service, plane quite old and food bland and fatty. If this ticket is much cheaper than Cathay and you can sleep, it might be worth out. If not, pay the extra and stick to a non US carrier.

Most interesting part of is that I booked Continental CLE-EWR-TXL but never flew it. Flight got delayed in CLE, landed too late in EWR for the flight to TXL (one per day). Probably only because I have a Star Alliance Gold card I got rerouted through MUC (where the flight was again too late) and missed my connection to TXL. To make it even better, Continental did not reroute my luggage so that was still in EWR when I landed in TXL, arrived only 24 hours later.

Berlin to EWR was ok, on the flight back we were annoyed by the following circumstances. Poor information in EWR on where to line for check-in, after asking and being directed to a line and waiting there for 15 mins, we were told to go somewhere else, halfway through the terminal, and wait again. We had two suitcases, which together weighed not more than the allowed weight for the two of us, but as one of them was over 20 kgs, we had to repack them or to pay 50USD. Then we were told that we would have two middle seats in different rows of the plane, although we had pre-reserved joining seats when we had made our reservation 3 months before. We were told that there was no guarantee for reserved seats, no explanation why it had happened and no excuse - but the offer to buy seats with more legspace for an additional 119 USD per seat, which we refused and said that we were going to complain. Suddenly, there were two joining seats available - even though in the last row, where it was crowded during the whole flight by passengers waiting for the toilet. This nuisance was aggravated by the fact that cabin staff sleeping in the row on the other side of the aisle hat fixed a bag on the aisle-sided armrest which loomed into the aisle, and barred half of it, thus forcing the passengers heading for the toilet to push their buttocks into my face when they wanted to pass. I am sure that no one of the cabin staff would have allowed a passenger to stow his baggage like this, but when I asked one of the staff on duty, they told me they didn't want remove it because they didn't want to wake their sleeping colleagues. Only after an extended argument and a complaint, they bothered to remove the obstacle. The meals were mediocre, and for drinks, I had to pay 6USD each.

IAH-CDG, FCO-IAH. Check in was pretty efficient. Boarding not so efficient. Seats were horrible, old, and worn. Inflight entertainment the worst, and not on demand. Dinner on both legs were small and forgettable. Breakfasts were better. Attendants pretty helpful but no water runs the whole flight.

Dublin to Seattle via Newark with Continental. The first problem was when I checked in online before we left Dublin, it wouldn't give me a boarding pass online so I had to check in at airport. The flight was fine, Personal TV =kept my grandson amused, lots of food and refreshments, polite flight attendants. Transit through Newark was a bit rushed because flight was so late leaving Dublin but we caught next flight ok. They boarded plane from the back. We had seats in row 6, so by the time we boarded there was no more room for any more hand luggage onboard. They would have to check in any hand luggage that wouldn't fit under seats. So myself and grandson had to rifle through our hand luggage to see what we didn't want to check in - 2 laptops, camera, psp's, important documents etc. So we had to carry all these on flight in our hands. Made this part of the journey very messy. No personal TV on this flight, not great with refreshments. Seattle to Newark: We were in row 14 and again by the time we boarded there was no room for hand luggage unless it fit under your seat. So again we had to rifle through all our stuff to see what we had to take out and carry everything on board - very stressful. The girl checked our hand luggage all the way through to Dublin which meant we had to carry everything around Newark airport with us. Newark to Dublin, personal TV but only for about 2.5 hours - then they turned it off.

Manchester-Newark. Friendly, professional staff, good entertainment selection. Unfortunately caught up in cancellation of flight due to volcanic ash and that is when problems occurred - some staff in airport excellent, some downright rude and unwilling to help. Late at night told we were on our own and it was up to us to find accommodation.

EWR to GRR and back, paid $175 to fly my bags along. What ticked me off is that passengers who didn't check their bags were given gate check tickets for their bags because they wouldn't fit in the tiny overhead, and then loaded on the plane with my bags for which I paid almost as much as my roundtrip ticket. Their bags rode along for free while mine cost me the $175. So, the way I figure it, in order to get your bag(s) on the plane for free, just over pack the hell out of them, and then check them on the jetway.

LFT-IAH-SJU. LFT-IAH via Continental Connection Saab 340 operated by Colgan Air - got us to IAH on time and service was fine. President's Club Terminal E at IAH a great experience - complimentary Bloody Marys remain excellent. IAH to SJU a new B737-900ER. Continental Airlines rebrands its domestic first class cabin on this aircraft as International Business Class. The inflight service and dinner were excellent, although the red wine was a bit disappointing. The seats were comfortable, aircraft featured around 75 channels of DirecTV but no music. The live channels ceased working somewhere over the Bahamas as we left the satellite coverage area over North America.
