I have to take the Continental “Island Hopper” flight from Guam to Majuro-RMI almost every
month. Before reaching to the final destination, the plane stops 5 islands every 1 hour +/-
and all passengers are forced to disembark the airplane. Continental Micronesia uses a new
737-800 plane but it has very narrow and uncomfortable business class seats with no
entertainment system. The flight serves only two light meals for the 8-hour flight. Cabin
crews are always tired with some exceptions. The automated in-flight announcement says “Thank
You for choosing Continental Airlines” whenever this horrible flight lands 5 islands -
although we have no other choice as the CO monopolizes the market.

TXL-EWR. Plane not too old but due to a plane change my chosen seat turned out to be one that
could not be reclined. When the passenger in front of me reclined his seat, the seating area
was so crowded I couldn´t put a meal on my tray properly. Inflight personel not particularly
friendly. Due to a special meal the food was ok, but they were really stingy with drinks
(alcoholic drinks to be paid for in USD) - even water! Immigration in Newark took very long
but this apparently was due to a system outage.

MAN-EWR. On smaller 757-200 but had seatback on demand TV/Video, games etc, leg room was
comparable with other economy seats (including Virgin). Food and service was very good. Flight
attendants were friendly and funny!

Round trip LHR to Amarillo via Houston. Hard working but unsmiling crew, adequate food and
excellent AVOD. Three out of four flights behind schedule so had to sprint through IAH, thank
heavens for the monorail system there. The most uncomfortable long distance seats, on a 777,
that I have ever experienced; short on legroom with obstructions under the seats, very narrow
and no lumber support-my back is still aching days afterwards.

LFT-IAH-PIT roundtrip. LFT-IAH via ERJ-145. Late arrival into IAH but service was good. IAH
-PIT via B737-500, exit seat 14F had excellent legroom. Service fine, although sandwich was
the smallest I've ever seen. PIT-IAH B737-500, bulkhead seat 5A was comfortable with good
leg room. Service friendly and professional with another tiny sandwich. Flight arrived into
IAH one and a half hours late and we then sat on the tarmac waiting for a gate before taxiing
a full 360 degrees due to a last minute gate change. Missed my connecting flight and received
hotel and meal vouchers. LFT -IAH the next day via ERJ-145 with not so friendly service.
Another domestic US airline adventure!

ALB-EWR-LHR. I rate inflight personnel average for friendliness and competence. Food below
average. Seats average comfort. Non-functional touch-screen for my entire row of seats in
B757 (EWR-LHR) on more than one occasion. Touch-screen requires you to poke the headrest of
the person in front of you to enter any menu choices (poor design). Consistently delayed
flights ALB-EWR-ALB after 5+ trips in 2008-2009. EWR to LHR generally on time. Frequent
mechanical problems. Customer service is well below average, particularly when attempting to
change flights or eliminate legs for a given reservation. Embedded culture of denial and
overcharging for simple changes. Website quoted $900 to eliminate the ALB to EWR leg and
simply pick up the reservation in Newark. On the phone, they quoted $1800 due to
Continental's fare structure. In these days of Southwest, Jetblue, and Virgin, reliance on
procedure over judgement does not fly. They are either over-centralized or under-trained.

I usually fly home from IAH to SJO with CO. This time was surprised to see a B757 with IFE
system, Y class seat with a screen with some choice of movies, music and TV shows. I like
flying CO to connect with my flights to the middle east, love IAH airport, full of natural
light, not like Atlanta. On this flight we had a choice of a snack, cheeseburger or a chicken
wrap and a drink as well. FA responded promptly to call bell for extra immigration form.
Aircraft full, boarding speedy and organized, space was adequate on 25A seat. Very pleased
with service from CO, very well above other US carriers flying to Costa Rica.

MCO-EWR-MAN Business Class. Checked in by a grumpy check in agent at Orlando, quickly through
security but no lounge access at Orlando whcih is a shame. Once on board a pre take-off
beverage and First Class was full. After take-off more drinks and a packet of mixed nuts were
provided - a 5pm departure so dinner served which was a salad with dressing, chicken soup and
a choice between a hot Beef and Cheese sandwich or pasta with shrimp - coffee and strawberry
cheesecake rounded off the meal - not bad at all for a 2hr13min flight. Service was
professional but lacked warmth. Transferring at Newark was straightforward and welcomed onto
to flight to Manchester with champagne, menu and amenity kit. 10.15pm departure so expecting a
quick bite to eat and then sleep - an hour after take-off, the meal had not even been served -
was eventually served at 1130pm - tables were cleared by 130am leaving just over two hours of
sleep before breakfast was served. I skipped breakfast. The service was professional but
lacked warmth and seemed disjointed at times.

DUB-YYZ Via Newark Economy. B757 is not ideal for transatlantic and leg room was only so-so,
inflight service was good, the crew on both legs were mature to say the least and pleasant and
beverage cart always on the go. Food for economy class was edible and what surprised me was
the IFE - seatback screens, great choice of Movies and TV Shows, a nice touch was the hot
panini, crisps and chocolate served before landing in Newark. My serious complaint is
immigration at EWR seems to take forever much longer than JFK and we almost missed connection
to Toronto, as the gate had been changed. Allow yourself at least 3 hours to connect at this
airport. Return flight fine, only gripe on Rows 30 to 34 you cannot use overhead bins as they
are reserved for Crew Luggage.

LHR-SAN-EWR-LHR Multi-stop economy. In short - not exactly plain sailing, but great service
on all three legs and also from ground staff really. The outgoing transatlantic flight was a
10hr+3hr during the day. It was packed but cabin crew were friendly and helpful and regularly
brought round water and snacks between meals. Something has gone very wrong with the
Continental check-in system, though, as families and couples who'd checked in together were
not seated together and had been advised to ask people to swap seats once they'd boarded - cue
chaos before we left! SAN-EWR leg the baggage handlers broke the wheel off my (very sturdy)
suitcase. Very frustrating - but credit to Continental for their response: I complained when
I got back to the UK, and within four days of my email they'd couriered a brand new
replacement holdall to me. Tip - if your baggage is damaged, make sure you report it before
you leave the airport!

MAN-EWR-STL return economy. All flights were on time, cabin crew polite and food was better
than average for economy class meal. The legroom (if you don't get an exit row seat) was OK
but not great. The problem was the connection at Newark - the queue for immigration was well
over an hour and then they changed the gate for the flight to St. Louis at the last minute and
to another terminal. Allow at least two hours to connect at EWR from an international
arrival, or else you'll be taking a risk.
