"cannot be trusted"

Trip Verified | San Francisco to Phoenix. I wish I could give this airline negative stars! I used to travel all of the time using any of the major airlines. I have gone through a lot in the last 5 years. Travel has been very scarce. I booked a 2 week trip overseas. My mistake was to let the touring company book the air for me and my second mistake was letting them choose United. They gave only a 45 minute wait between my 2nd and 3rd flight and the plane left over an hour late. Strike 1. My final flight of the day was with Lufthansa. Fortunately Lufthansa got me on another flight but I had to wait 7 hours in an airport. Thank you Lufthansa. Strike 2 United. Coming home from my trip the touring company booked me a 5 hour layover in San Francisco. I already had 24 hours of real traveling time scheduled. After 3 different gate changes in San Francisco they finally said they were having plane maintenance issues. An 8:00 pm flight has now been moved to 10:20 pm at yet another gate. The time I'm leaving this flight is later than my scheduled arrival! United Airlines cannot be trusted to take their passengers to their desired destination in a timely manner. For domestic flights I will now go with Southwest and for international I will go with Delta or Lufthansa.

"never turned off the lights"

Not Verified | Frankfurt to Miami. I checked in at the Nice, France airport with Lufthansa and received my three boarding passes. I didn't have to go through security at Frankfurt and after visiting the Lufthansa Star Alliance Lounge I walked to the boarding area. When I showed my boarding pass I was told that I needed to go to Document Check. I then got back in line and there was another problem so I went to the counter. I was told to go back to the end of the line and try again. I'm Group 1 so I wasn't happy about that. The third try I still could not get in through the gate. I was told that because I had an exit row seat I had to go through a different entrance. Good Grief. United is the only airline that I know of that seats 10 across in Premium Economy on a 777-300. The seats are tight with a 17 inch width. About 35 minutes after take-off, they turned the fasten seatbelt sign off. First came a bag of bread sticks, then came a small bottle of water, then came my food with plastic tableware and then the beverage cart with a complementary glass of wine or a beer. There was no hot or moist towel. After all food items were picked up, they came by with another glass of wine or beverage. The fasten seatbelt sign came on several times during the flight because of a very light chop. United has changed the recorded announcement to "Please fasten your seatbelt." The German speaking flight attendant had a very loud voice which would have made sleeping difficult, but in the economy cabin, they never turned off the lights or asked people to close their window shades so it was impossible for me to sleep. Prepare for landing, which means the fasten seatbelt sign is on and seats need to be upright was 50 minutes before landing, which makes for a long 50 minutes. When flying to Europe, I would recommend Lufthansa. On my flight a month earlier to Europe, Lufthansa turned off the fasten seatbelt sign seven minutes after take-off and it wasn't turned back on until 25 minutes to landing, a very quiet flight.

"the worst flying experience"

Trip Verified | Flew Houston to Ft Lauderdale. I do not usually write reviews on anything unless it stands out to me. This airline was the worst flying experience of my life. I travel often and have seen a lot but I have never ever had such an awful flight. Rather would stay home. I would pass up a free ticket for this airline. Beyond awful. Don’t fly United.

"was absolutely horrible"

Trip Verified | Atlanta to San Francisco. One of the most inconsiderate customer service experiences that I’ve ever had before with United Airlines! My family and I booked a one way flight from Atlanta to Reno, NV where we were catching a connecting flight in San Francisco on 7/10/18. After boarding the flight in Atlanta at 7:35a, we sat in our designated seats for nearly an hour due to mechanical difficulties that they were having with the plane. When nearing San Francisco, the pilot and his flight attendants informed us that we were behind schedule by 25 minutes but he had informed the supervisor of our late arrival due to multiple passengers with tight connecting flights that were boarding while we were still in flight. Our flight landed at 10:17am. Due to the pilot landing at the wrong gate, we sat on the plane an additional 10 minutes before they finally allowed us to exit which was approximately 10:25a. Our connecting flight also with United Airlines allowed passengers to board between 10:15a and stopped boarding at 10:25a. Again, we were under the impression that our flight was being held for us. Upon approaching the gate, the 2 people at the gate and customer service desk were the absolute rudest and the most inconsiderate. They stated that they never got word from the pilot about our late arrival. They attempted to split my family (my husband, myself, and our 7yo son) apart to catch different flights then recanted and stated that they were full. Our son is competing in the USA National Karate Competition in Reno, NV and had to be checked in by 4pm. We explained that to them. Still no remorse or apology or anything. Instead, they attempted to book us for a 9:30p flight which we refused. The only thing left for us to do as parents was to rent a car and tackle the 4hr drive! Of course the rental was over priced because it was last minute and being dropped off in a different state! This whole experience was absolutely horrible!

"experience was utterly gross"

Trip Verified | My last experience with UA was just utterly gross. I sat in economy on the way from Chicago to Maui (9 hour flight) with no inflight entertainment, they do offer WiFi that you have to pay 35 bucks for if you want to use your computer and they offer a movie streaming service which you can use in your own personal device (you can’t use this on your phone unless you have the United airlines app which you can download but you’d have to do it before your flight because on the flight you have to pay the internet in order to download it from the App Store. For your computer, you have to install certain softwares in order to stream them from your laptop. They offer food that they charge you for because it’s the passengers responsibility if they get hungry on a 9 hour flight apparently. The seat was tiny with the smallest amount of leg room you can imagine. Luckily I sat in the aisle seat so I was able to stretch my legs out into the aisle from time to time but if I kept my legs out for to long: a flight attendant would walk by having no promo em stepping on you or “inadvertently” kicking you as they walk through without any contrition. The flight attendant (I dread calling them that because they seldomly attended) would make her way down the aisle with a tray of coffee or tea, run out by the time she got to row 10 and never attend to the people passed that point. Finally when she did make it to me with her cart (which was 15 minutes before landing) I asked if I could get a coffee and cranberry juice and she snarled at me with the response “ok I really have to keep it moving”. Overhead compartments was so small and people were playing a really tricky game of Tetris to make their stuff fit in. The electrical outlet was humongous so my charger for phone and computer kept falling out and the only way I could charge is if I physically held the charger in the outlet. The food that I ended up paying for was gross and cold and the bread was stale and difficult to chew. They put up a sheer curtain between first class and economy so that you’re teased by the huge personal TVs and vast space they have. Clearly a ploy so that you only buy first class tickets since the alternative is physically painful. The bathrooms had toilet paper all over the floor (clearly no one tends to them during the flight). The call lights I would press for the flight “attendant” were just promptly turned off without anyone swinging by to see if there was anything that I needed. Honestly, so many more issues to list, it was mortifying flying with UA and I really do not know how they are still in business when you compare thEm to other American airlines

"nothing has been pleasant"

Not Verified | Absolutely horrible experience flying United from San Antonio to Cancun! I understand that things happen but United seriously dropped the ball today. Every flight was over and hour late, over booked and hot! Worst customer service when trying to get a new flight due to a 108 minute delay on our first flight causing us to miss our connecting flight. I was hung up on when trying to get a new connecting flight. Overall nothing has been pleasant about this trip. Unacceptable for how much money we passengers pay. If we can punctual for the flight so should the airline!

"worst customer service"

Trip Verified | Newark to Ft Lauderdale. I’ve used United Airlines a lot this year (even flew from Florida to Hong Kong with them) and it has let me down every time. It has by far, the worst customer service. The staff is rude, super unhelpful and definitely not prepared. Absolutely every flight I’ve tried United has been delayed and I’ve had lost my connections. They never give updates on any information and when you ask for some they simply answer “they don’t know”. They do not care enough to help you fix things they just treat you like trash and relocate you, making it worse. Super awful experiences. I do not recommend United Airlines to anyone.

"I am super impressed"

Trip Verified | I want to acknowledge the special treatment that was given to my special need son while we flying from Frankfurt to Washington yesterday. The United airlines staff was very accommodating right from the moment we had to check in at Frankfurt. My son was given a priority tag on his wheelchair and consequently our whole family was treated the same way along with our son throughout. The guide stayed with us until we boarded the plane. The boarding counter lady was super nice and was really worried about getting us in first of all after the business class got in the plane. In the plane the flight attendants offered us every help possible and kept asking if my son is doing okay throughout. The lady attendant also brought my son a banana and some delicious chocolates, probably from the business class menu items. When we finally reached the destination not only we promptly received our son's wheelchair but also another special need helper was there with my sons name on an iPad displayed to guide us our way to the luggage carousel. I am super impressed they treated us throughout. We were a little hesitant to use the airline at first but now will use it over and over again.

"massive waste of precious time"

Not Verified | Manchester to Houston via Newark. Never in my life have I had a worse experience with an airline. My two flights from Houston to Manchester were both delayed by three hours, but that's not even the worst of it! My flight back from Manchester was delayed over 5 hours! It was so bad that I missed my connecting flight to Houston and had to wait an entire day for a returning flight. And just when I thought I might finally be able to go home, that flight was delayed three hours too. When we finally got on the plane it took another hour to actually take off! I missed all my plans for the day at home because I was waiting 29 hours for a returning flight, and I now hate United Airlines with a flaming passion. Whatever you do, never ever fly with United Airlines, it is a massive waste of precious time and money and the awful service is nowhere near worth it.

Not Verified | My flight from Hong Kong to Newark then Dallas. However, on July 3 the storm would not let this plane landed, they had to fly to Boston instead. Although I had some difficulties but United did take care of me although they had many people to care for. They first gave $20 meal voucher, then after a few hours they could not find new plane, they booked me to a hotel and booked me through American Airline to fly me back from Boston to Dallas the next day. This is the first time I experienced this problem, but they did take care of us. I want to say thank you.
