"This airport is a disaster"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Terrible airport. Tons of missed flights leaving hundreds of passengers on the ground with little communication or options. Most flights delayed or cancelled. Poor terminal to terminal transportation. Many technical problems with airport and air traffic control. This airport is a disaster. Have been stranded by Philippine Airlines for 2 days so far. No compensation for hotels, meals or transportation. Despite reaching airline customer service by phone, email, DM the airline has provided no assistance. International travelers should try avoiding this airport for making connections. Not a visitor friendly airport at all. My trip has been a disaster and is still ongoing.

“Put some seats in”

(United States)

Not Verified | Put some seats in, people sitting on the floor for an international flight, oh yeah maybe turn the ac on. Flew into Clark, like a real modern airport, NAIA is truly a joke.

Used T1 3 and 4 in a couple of weeks. 3 isn't bad arriving but the huge queues for taxis are depressing. Either you wait for ever for a metered cab or get ripped off by the touts. T4 apart from being small and overcrowded is probably the better of NAIA terminals especially arrivals. Mostly new and clean. Taxis are less of a problem here and it WS easy to jump in a taxi emptying its passengers . T1 is possibly one of the worse I've been to. Even getting into the terminal took an age. Make sure you have a print out of your flight details or you won't get in. And there was only one officious security guard for a huge line of passengers. Don't forget to have 550 Pesos for departure tax. Once through the many bag checks carried out by seemingly disinterested guards you are into the departure area. Apart from an overcrowded Starbucks that's it. There is nowhere else to sit. There isn't any seating on the walkway's to the gates. Until your gate opens you do as everyone else does and sit on the floor.

Manila Airport customer review

(Belgium)

The worst airport by far. Dirty toilets almost no clocks dirt all over the place. Chaotic seating. Noisy. Lots of unnecessary checks the international terminal is a big shed kind of hangar. At the boarding gate there was a table of 5 staff members checking paperwork again and again. On top of this there are the terminal "fee" you have to pay. Its a shame.

Queues queues and more queues. MNL-HKG return using NAIA Terminal 1. Word to the wise: if your airlines offer online check in - use it or be prepared to stand in line for at least an hour. Not enough counters for most airlines to accommodate full wide bodied jets. Immigration lines are a little better. Security was a joke! My daughter inadvertently packed 2 safety scissors in her pencil case and was not detected on the two layers of security (upon entering the terminal and at the final security after immigration - unacceptable). Airside nothing to do unless you pay for the upstairs lounges. Limited and expensive food choices. On our return flight we had to queue for more than an hour to clear immigration and customs as our flight happened to have landed the same time as flights from the US (JAL DL) and Middle East (EK) did. Officials tried to rearrange the booths but did not do much good as the arrangement apparently created more chaos. I think they should have just used the snaking retractable devices that they did on the outbound area. Waiting for the car was another ordeal since the volume of passengers and greeters just overwhelmed the structure. Government should seriously reconsider transferring some airline operations to T3 post haste.

(United States)

Used all terminals last summer. First Terminal 1. Our flight from ICN landed at 11AM. First impression old and shabby! Immigration however was surprisingly fast. Arrivals Area was a total dump a very horrible first impression to first time tourists! Used Terminal 3 a day later way better than T1. Check-In hall was clean and spacious. Security was fast and efficient. Gate Areas were rather small but good enough. Enough food for domestic and some int' pax though I'd expect more stores once intl OPS move to T3. Arrived at T2 2 months later as usual Terminal 2 is excellent clean and spacious. Departed through T1 check-in all was dark and shabby though very clean. Immigration was slow with rude staff. Security rude staff again! Gate area was rather spacious and comfy. Decent food but nothing special. Overall NAIA isn't that bad. T1 is a dump T2 and T3 are excellent. The bad thing about NAIA is the staff rude and unfriendly!

"full of confusion and construction"

(Thailand)

This is by far the worst International airport in the world. On this trip I got to experience 3 of the terminals - 1, 2, and 3. Terminal 1 is the only terminal that has a hope as they have renovated it. However it is full of confusion and construction and has a long way to go to be any good. Check in at the counter was a joke as they have no line dividers so there is just one huge long line for check in that winds across the entire check in area. Buy some line dividers and be normal. Internet is absolutely terrible - you cannot even skype on it let alone send an email. Terminal 2. This should be torn down and replaced as soon as possible. It saw its day 25 years ago and is the least modern airport in Asia. Philippine Airlines should be embarrassed to operate out of this terminal. There are so many reasons to close this but a few are: It looks very old, terrible metal seats, only one washroom per international or domestic departure area (amazing), and the worst internet in the world. Terminal 3. This is the most modern terminal but fails in a big way for the following reasons. Total lack of air conditioning on the upper level. I talked to the staff in the restaurants and they said it has always been like that! Terrible internet. Very long lines (up to 1 hour) to get into the terminal to check in to your flight - this is just the security check point. Lastly there is a supposed shuttle bus to take you between terminals - forget it. I waited 50 minutes for the bus to come and when it arrived it was packed, no where to put my luggage. Then it gets on the main road into the Manila traffic to go to the next terminal and you can be there for another 45 minutes just go to 2 miles. Given that in Asia some of the nicest airports exist only a few hours from Manila I would like to know how the government of the Philippines can justify that this is the first thing and last thing that guests to their country experience.

"an overcrowded airport"

(Philippines)

Trip Verified | I haven't travelled from terminal one in a long time so this is the first time I'm seeing the renovation that was done a few years ago. Certainly parts of the airport like the check-in area and hallways to the gates look much better. Unfortunately this is merely a cosmetic "solution" masking the real problem of an overcrowded airport. Long lines at the check-in area as well as in immigration consumed over an hour of my time. There were more Filipinos travellers compared to foreigners but about an equal number of immigration counters for both. That meant that lines for Filipinos moved much slower. Perhaps they should adjust the assignment of counters. After clearing immigration I had some time to get a meal and could see there were a decent number of food choices. Unfortunately most of them were rather overpriced compared to what you could get in the city. The number of passengers using the airport far exceeds its designed capacity. Delays are commonplace but can vary depending on the time of day or night. My flight was delayed for over an hour. The boarding gate was crowded with not enough seats for all passengers.

"main issue is getting between terminals"

(Australia)

Before arriving in Manila, I was worried about the Manila airport experience as a quick look at reviews online painted a very stark picture of what this airport would be. I was expecting hell on earth. Although there is a lot of room for improvement, it is not the hellish place I was expecting it to be. First of all, I was expecting ridiculously long waiting times to pass through security at the airport (more specifically Terminal 3 and 4). This was not the case. There are several entry points at terminal 3, and what really surprised me was the fact that most passengers queued up at very few entry gates when they could have walked a few metres down the terminal to get in without having to wait 10 minutes behind everyone. Terminal 4 was a bit different. It is much smaller and I would recommend arriving at least 2hrs before your flight (nothing extraordinary about that). Secondly, if you are a responsible traveller and arrive early for your flight (lets say 3hrs) then there is absolutely nothing to worry about. There is free wifi which is not necessarily available in some high end airports (ex: Paris). There is a food court in terminal 3 which is perfectly adequate. My main issue is getting between terminals. The only way and best way to get between terminals to catch a connecting flight is by uber or Grab (a rival company). If you are an experienced traveller, and do your research, you will find that if you pass through Terminals 3 or 4, there are definitely worse airports out there. It was bearable. The authorities are trying to improve the situation and I hope that there will be an efficient way of getting between terminals in the near future. Just leave yourself plenty of time before your flight and between connecting flights. If you don't then don't complain. I wouldn't recommend this airport, but I wouldn't complain for days about it either.

"worst representation of the Philippines"

(Philippines)

Unverified | The worst representation of the Philippines. An airport should have a welcoming and relaxing feeling to start of a trip. But Manila Airport (or NAIA) has a stressful, uncomfortable, and overall bad feeling to it. All lines are really long. I would rather choose Clark International Airport over this.
