“one of the worst airports”
Alan Mathieson (United Kingdom)
Not Verified | Edinburgh is one of the worst airports you could ever have the misfortune to use, flight arrived no steps, no buses to tranfer to building then wait an age for baggage to arrive, its a disgrace, operates like a third world country, its like they are not expecting a plane to arrive, an embarrassment.

"waited over an hour on our luggage"
K Angus (United Kingdom)
Not Verified | My husband and I arrived back at Edinburgh airport at 16.45, had a transfer booked for 6 pm thinking this would give us plenty of time to get through security checks and collect our luggage. Clearly we were wrong. We passed through security which is always a bit of a shambles, but nevertheless we waited over an hour on our luggage so missed our transfer. There were 4 flights coming through one carousel, which was not great. But worst of all the baggage handlers we spoke were rude and unhelpful. Swissport who were our baggage handlers basically did nothing to help. Worst of all 4 people sitting in the office doing absolutely nothing.

"Avoid if possible"
E Warden (United Kingdom)
✅ Trip Verified | Arrival back at Edinburgh makes me embarrassed for any tourists arriving in Scotland. I've seen better and cleaner airports in 3rd world countries. The weird flights of stairs and narrow corridors before passport control means a huge crowd develops before you can join the queue. Definitely not enough space for arrivals. Passport control queue moved slowly. No decent signage to say where folk with certain passports should go. Ideally UK passports could be a separate queue but you get flung in with the majority of other nationals. Eventually got through passport control and wanted to use the toilet. Did an about turn when I saw the state of the gents. 3 cubicles and 3 urinals is not enough for 4 international flights arriving at the same time. Especially when one urinal is overflowing with urine and 3 of the toilets covered in urine and faeces. Disgusting! Tried a different bathroom after bag pick-up and reversed out again as this was in a similar state. Speaking of bag pick-up - absolute shambles. 4 international flights bags going on to 1 conveyor. Waited for ages for our suitcases. Ridiculous. Road out of Edinburgh is like a 3rd world country road. Potholes from one end to the other. Cannot believe this is how we welcome tourists to Scotland. Avoid if possible. Glasgow airport far better.

"A national embarrassment"
D Stewart (United Kingdom)
Not Verified | A national embarrassment. Arriving you go upstairs downstairs walk a dingy corridor then repeat before arriving at passport control. Home office not known for being efficient but border force here are useless and miserable. Far from pleasant. If I was a tourist arriving and based the country on this chaos I'd about turn and return to my place of origin. And quickly.

“the place is complete chaos”
L Stevenson (United Kingdom)
✅ Trip Verified | Arriving here from Germany makes you realise how bad this airport really is. Everything here is third rate - the place is complete chaos, and being busy is not an excuse. It’s a total lack of planning and organisation, no proper infrastructure to allow for a proper flow of passengers (you literally couldn’t enter for the queues of people waiting for the bag drop). The whole experience is stressful, not helped by the poor signage and lack of staff. The latter is a given nowadays, but at Munich the check in process with automated bag drop that took 3 minutes makes you want to cry when you see the utter shambles that is Edinburgh airport. If I could avoid flying from / to EDI I would.

"it’s just chaos"
S Carter (United Kingdom)
✅ Trip Verified | Travelling rant, Britain is broken and a complete joke. Just traveled back from USA, swift and simple service with United. I was around ten mins to check in and drop bags with a pretty much automated and simple to use system. There were also friendly staff there to assist if needed. Very busy but flowing very well. Come to Edinburgh and it’s just chaos with totally disgruntled staff and customers. You queue for ages then there is no clear system, after 2hrs in a relatively small queue to check in (had already checked in online again but no bag drop). Then one of the staff members had to then call for customers on our flight and needed to rush us through. The American lady I was now partnered up with in our now expedited process through with just couldn’t believe it. Had a chat to a few different people on their travels from different countries, all just laughing at the state of our system it’s embarrassing. If we can’t get staff then introduce the systems to reduce the time this takes. From security and having TSA approval. Why can’t we introduce similar to help speed things up. Also our security is the slowest there is, we still have laptops out which all takes time. So now sat writing this in a one of only a handful of restaurant options at Edinburgh airport waiting for checkin to take my bags. Well so far I’ve been sat waiting 40mins and not one member of staff has come near me. Their QR ordering system doesn’t work. I’ve watched 4 (sorry now 5) different groups of people walk out and most had complaints. There looks to be plenty staff and luckily I’m in no hurry so just going to wait and see how long it takes to loose my invisible cloak. Coming from the states it’s just so different worlds. We could really learn a thing or two in customer service. What does our wonderful new leaders want to do, reward everyone even more. Maybe we should look at rewarding for performance as opposed to just dishing it out just a thought?? Oh and avoid the @Bridge & Castle..

"makes me ashamed to land in Scotland"
R Mee (United Kingdom)
Not Verified | Departures. Pay to get in. Pay to get a trolley. Walk to the other end of the airport to check-in. Walk back to where you came from for security. Queue for an ungodly length at the understaffed x-rays. Wait 45 minutes while they rescan your bag for something they thought was in there, but wasn’t. No apology. Arrivals. One. One person on passport control. Pay for trolley. I have a disabled son so we need a trolley, so this is a tax on families and the less abled. Walk miles to the taxi rank. Deal with the outrageous taxi fares home, a supplemental £6. It makes me ashamed to land in Scotland. Just embarrassing.

"airport security took 40 mins"
Martin Daniels (United Kingdom)
Not Verified | Total shambles, airport security took 40 mins, too many people going through security at the same time, was free for all we nearly missed our flight. Rude staff, no help what so ever. As for carparks not sign posted well enough cost me £12 to drive round wrong car park and get back out no help option at exit for assistance. For the amount of money you charge for these services surly security and car parks should be better organised.

"a disgrace of an airport"
Jacqueline Hoy (United Kingdom)
Not Verified | Edinburgh must be one of the worst airports going. On arrival, you have to walk up 3 flights of stairs, along corridors, and then down a flight of stairs, which allows 2 queues to form, before reaching the passport control area. All incoming flights join the same queue, snaking up and down, ending up walking miles. Not enough desks on and only one scruffy attendant to direct you to a desk or barrier. Not a great first impression of Edinburgh I must say. Then the fun of waiting for luggage on the one carousel that holds all luggage from every incoming flight. It is a disgrace of an airport, with dirty corridors and toilets, not enough staff. Just awful!!

"near disaster of an airport"
John Duffus (Thailand)
✅ Trip Verified | 4 flights in and out of EDI - 2 QR business class, 2 KLM economy class. Can not agree more with most of the comments on this near disaster of an airport. As a business class passenger on QR with two carry-on bags, the long walks are not unusual but then to be greeted by several sets of stairs is appalling. Having to join a quite lengthy queue on arrival for UK passport gates (some not working!) when the few non-UK passengers sailed through the staff-controlled gates was demeaning! Security staff were helpful but the departure lines for economy slow moving and confusing. If one bag is singled out, it emerges from the scanner on a different conveyer. The arrangements for pick-up and drop off are equally strange and confusing. I wasted a considerable amount of money on international phone calls that should have been unnecessary.
