"There is limited seating"

(United States)

Not Verified | Having experienced near 45-50 different airports across the world, this is by far the worst airport I have ever been to. There is limited seating, because there are so many unnecessary stores taking up space. People are forced to sit on the ground or wait in the filthy restaurants where everything is sticky. It is so crowded we are packed in here like sardines. The population of Edinburgh and the amount of tourists that come through the city makes it hard to comprehend how anyone could see that this is a suitable airport for the extremely high numbers that have to come through here daily. There are full on clothing stores that need to be turned into seating for traveling passengers. Overall logic of the way the airport it set up is horrid and makes no sense at all. I could type up a book of everything that’s wrong with this airport but I am out of time. All you need to know is to avoid this airport if possible.

"sad decline for my local airport"

(United Kingdom)

Not Verified | EDI is nowhere near the pleasant experience it used to be. As the passenger numbers have increased, its management of them has got worse. The main terminal could have coped in the past, but the current owners have decided to sweat the assets, and there is now so much retail that choke points have been created. I shudder to think what would happen in an emergency. Departure is a relatively painless experience, the staff is sound and helpful. As said above, there's plenty food and beverage for the traveller. Free WiFi, but seating is a bit limited in the main area, although plenty on way to gates. Travel to and from is relatively good, with a number of buses, and now the tram line has been extended to Newhaven. International arrivals is another matter. There's a clear sense of the third-world country that the UK has become. Poor and shabby, is the impression given. A sad decline for my local airport. All one can say is that it's better than the alternatives.

"people sitting all over floor"

(United Kingdom)

Not Verified | Parked at the airport, very handy and simple. Then went to bag drop with EasyJet, as I am neurodiverse I had my hidden disability lanyard on. The assistant said scan your pass and attach your label and left us to it. It took us a few attempts to get it as this was our first time with this system - no help was offered as it was chaos. We then headed to security where we had fast track - hoping for a smooth and slightly quieter experience. How wrong that was, think everyone had fast track definitely not quite headed in like cattle grumpy man told us to only line up in one lane to let others in so family items did not all go through at same time so all over place. Huge congestion after scanner in area way too small for the amount of people, had to wait 20mins for one of our bags that had been stopped. So watched all the people have shampoo, shower gel bottles of water etc removed! Couldn't understand why we had our bag stopped cause I knew the rules on liquids. To be fair guy searching bag was nice. Then runway closed, plane delayed moved from one gate to another clearly not big enough people sitting all over floor. Speedy boarding was called (now thinking what that actually means is run) otherwise more than half the plane is speedy boarding so it really wasn't the calm quite experience I had hoped for yet again. Arrival and departure at holiday destination Berlin was much better, there system meant steady flow no large groups much calmer experience (except for speedy boarding with EasyJet).

"this airport is not fit for purpose"

(United Kingdom)

Not Verified | Edinburgh is my local airport and has sadly gone downhill (actually fallen off the side of a mountain) in the last few years. The terrible reviews that are regularly posted on here are entirely accurate, and the airport is sadly an embarrassing 'welcome' to Scotland. Where to start ? Maybe at the over priced terminal drop off, or their long term parking where you have to wait 45 mins for 3 (tiny) buses because they simply don't have enough to service the parking areas. Then we have the low ceilings in a cramped 1960s departure hall, staffed by sullen, arrogant, aggressive staff. The security check has improved from the chaos of last summer, but you still have personnel shouting loudly at people. Have the personnel never been on customer training ? Then you zig zag through the most modern, updated part of the airport, the duty free, into a crowded departures lounge where lack of seating, lack of communication, crowded gates and last minute gate changes are common. Arriving is equally hellish. The now hilarious and well known delay when a plane arrives, as there are no ground staff to provide stairs. Then an up/down/up/down long walk into a corrugated iron shed for security control, followed by the obligatory 45 minute wait for luggage. As pointed out by many, this airport is not fit for purpose. Covid, Brexit, and new owners have made this an airport to be avoided. If you can, travel in and out of Glasgow.

"crowded, very long security check area"

(United States)

Trip Verified | I am a registered nurse medical escort. I transported a client from USA to Edinburg, requiring portable oxygen use for her flight. On departure I was told after the belongings search the portable machine was not allowed into the airport at all, because it was illegal to have this inside the airport. I explained it was only a concentrator, not oxygen storage. Spoke to 2 supervisors who said same thing. I showed them my letter, my certificate from Delta prior to trip. They said they are government rules and their government did not approve of the machine. I was sent back to Delta ticketing, where the delta supervisor confirmed it is acceptable and approved. I then was sent through security again And almost missed my flight. Portable oxygen is safe and is approved with a special Application . These agents felt they were government representatives and they could force me to leave the machine behind, no matter what Delta or my company said or approved. Terrible experience in a crowded, very long security check area.

"I have never experienced such bad service"

(United Kingdom)

Trip Verified | I arrived from Tenerife and the member of staff to assist disabled people from start asked my wife if she was able to push the wheelchair which is the reason why we booked in advance for assistance. We explained that my wife couldn't push the wheelchair due to medical issues. After going through customs she again asked if my wife could push the wheelchair to the airport exit or wherever we needed to go (I needed to get the bus to collect my car) but seems that the staff member wasn't very happy with it (I used the assistance at Edinburgh airport many times and usually they take me to the bus station outside to wait for my bus) at this point we had enough with this lady and asked her to leave me just after the "nothing to declare" point where we decided to take a taxi to the long stay car park, she was very happy with that and said that we could hold on the wheelchair if we needed and left. I have been travelling around the world using the "assistance" and I can say that the service for disabled people in Edinburgh is extremely low standard and careless, I have never experienced such bad service and I hope the management will improve this service (looking at the reviews I'm not the only one disappointed) and explain to their staff why people with needs use the service!

"Departures was basic but functional"

(United Kingdom)

Trip Verified | As an airport, Edinburgh wasn’t bad. Being a smaller local airport, I tend to find that there isn’t as much diversity in the airlines or destinations which are available although those which are available can be more affordable compared to alternatives. Parking at the multi-storey was good, although some extra signage to tell you where to go would be useful or some physical staff to monitor traffic flow. Check-in was easy and little queue, plenty of staff available although having to apply a tag by the agent and walk and put the bag on another conveyor yourself did seem a little different, I couldn’t stop watching my bags to make sure they weren’t stolen! Security was quick although a little concerned they missed out my phone in my pocket, probably something that should have been flagged. Departures was basic but functional, toilets could do with some upgrades and cleaning but for a small airport the range of facilities was okay. Boarding for us was at the gate next to Costa Coffee, so very short walk and easy boarding plus plenty of space to relax before. Service in Boots was a little slow but that can be excused. Arrivals experience was very fast and efficient, most likely due to our arrival time. Did find that the staff at Border Control we’re a little intimidating. Baggage was delivered quickly as we we’re the only incoming flight arriving. Arrivals hall is quite basic and old, could do with some more facilities. Overall, okay airport if you want to keep things basic.

"1h20m still awaiting baggage"

"Would not recommend"

(United Kingdom)

Not Verified | If it was possible I wouldn't give this airport any stars. My son and I had a flight at 6am from Edinburgh Airport and so early we had to queue at the check in for almost an hour. (My son is 2). The lady at the check in desk was very rude and not professional at all. Would not recommend.
