"professional and attentive"

(United Kingdom)

Not Verified | London Gatwick to Halifax. First trip with West Jet, and after reading negative reviews I was not looking forward to the flight, however. Outbound: check-in easy and prompt. Plane interior getting worn. Flight attendants on this leg ok however only offered one drink then they seemed to disappear. Comfortable enough flight. Legroom good as chosen premium economy seat 1A. Husband in 1C. Food ok. Inflight entertainment system as long as you have an iPad or tablet with you, selection of films or television programmes. The return flight, check-in lady very friendly helped us with the online check-in. No queues. Very organised at the gate. Plane full. Flight attendants very professional and attentive. Plenty of drinks. Food ok. One lady informed me she had an amenity kit, though we did not receive one. (Only ever received amenity kit in business class before!) One thing we did wonder about, as we were premium economy our luggage tags had Priority attached to them, we thought they would be through promptly, however, they were quite late coming through on both legs.

"find another airline"

(Canada)

Not Verified | Westjerked around on the way to our vacation and Westjerked around on the way home. We lost a total of 4 days of our vacation, lost approximately $1000 in condo rates and hotel rooms. Westjoke seems to blame everything on the weather so they “Don't have to help you” while they have you stranded. Example: supposed to be a 3 hr wait in Calgary before connecting flight, weather makes you 20 mins late past when you were supposed to get there, they use that as an excuse to not help you, even though your standing at the gate of your connection hours before your plane leaves, claiming they can't allow you to board the plane because your luggage isn't there. 2hrs not enough to transfer luggage? Yet they can leave 2 80yr old women stranded in airports for days and claim its the weathers fault. But the part thats really insulting is how they smirk, almost laughing while they insist they dont help anyone with anything, "its the weathers fault", been a loyal customer since they opened their doors. All I can say now is find another airline.

"most uncomfortable seat"

(United States)

Not Verified | Edmonton to New York via Toronto. Let's start with comfort. These have to be the most uncomfortable seats I've ever sat on. I would've been better off sitting on the floor. There was nowhere to charge my phone and there were no TVs. A 4 hour flight with nothing to do. The flight was half empty and we could not sit next to each other because we had to pay $35 per passenger to sit together. Not to mention no one was using the bathroom infront and there was a line in back and we couldnt use it because it is designated for "business class". When they came around to serve watered down coffee and flat soda, they didn't wake us up like they do on any other airline I've ever traveled with. When I asked for a cup of water, the flight attendant said we had to wait for the next round of beverages to be served which was 30 minutes before we landed. The ride was extremely bumpy and the landing was even worse. There were people screaming. Lastly, we arrived in Toronto around 12am and I had a connecting flight to New York at 7am. Instead of them keeping my checked in luggage, we had to wait to get our suitcases and take them with us because "it was too early to check in my luggage". A total of 14 suitcases was onboard this flight which were all checked in at the same time in Edmonton. We only received 13 and was told "they dont know where it is but it can be delivered once it arrives. I live in NY, not Canada. Safe to say we received our suitcase 4 days later in NY, completely broken with not even an apology. My mom's medication and daily belongings was in that suitcase, Anyway, back to my connecting flight the next morning. I arrived back at the airport at 543am for my 705am flight. The machine to print a new bag tag was broken so I had to go on the line which had 2 people on it so it was no problem. When I arrived at the desk, the rude worker said I have to get on another flight because "its to late to board this flight" and I need to be there 3 hours prior. At this point it is 551am. Anyone who has ever been to Toronto Pearson knows it takes no longer than 15 minutes to go through security, immigration and to the gate. The rude manager came next. She said it's not a problem, I can get on the next flight for a charge of $630. I told her no, I'll leave my luggage in Toronto with my brother who will bring it when he returns home in few weeks. She refused to help me and ask me to "back away from the desk so she can help someone else until I figure out how to pay for my next flight." I cannot believe the kind of service they provide, not only in Toronto but NYC and Edmonton. It was a group of 30+ that traveled with WestJet for this trip and after this, we will never travel WestJet again. Air Canada has never once had so many complications. I'll pay extra and fly with this. Saving $30 is so not worth it. At the end of the day, It's WestJets loss. My family flies from Canada to NY and we fly to Canada from NY at least 10 times a month.

"special assistance never came"

(Canada)

Trip Verified | Varadero to Edmonton via Toronto. Requested special assistance for my mother because she doesn’t speak English and has problems with her legs. From Toronto, she lost her connecting flight because the special assistance never came. She got lost and by the time she found the door by herself her flight had left. She called me crying, when I called WestJet the customer service was more than rude. They told me it was my fault because I booked the flight with only 1:30 minutes to take the connecting flight. I was told they will do me the favour to put my mother on another flight. She hasn’t eaten anything, and I don’t know what’s happening

"flight was very comfortable"

(Canada)

Trip Verified | Vancouver to Las Vegas. I don't fly WestJet too often. However, this route was very economically priced and so I went for it. The flight was very comfortable with the flight attendants being very polite (and funny). It was a short 2-hour flight and so I can't comment on the foodservice. But the flight experience was very comfortable.

"don’t use for international flights"

(Canada)

Trip Verified | Calgary to Dublin. It’s apparent that WestJet has not yet learned how to fly internationally (although I find them decent in country and for short trips to the US). Meals cannot be requested while booking your flight (so I needed to know this and call in), there are meals but if you have allergies you won’t be eating on the plane. People take a red eye flight to sleep, not have the cabin lights on nice and bright and only turned down for 2 hrs at which time windows can be opened. In flight service shouldn’t leave boxes on tables for over 2 hrs and clearly the Boeing 787 wasn’t made to serve anything (don’t sit in an isle seat. Im not that big and my arm wasn’t in the isle - rammed anyways!) as I not only wore a Diet Coke that I didn’t order, but was bumped a totally of 6 times by the steward. No bags at arrival. Still haven’t been found a week later but my case worker was nice to deal with (the WJ baggage staff was sick for a week or didn’t come in, so luckily they gave us a Star Alliance overnight bag when we got there. WJ doesn’t have any). Getting home will be an issue. Overall, don’t use for international flights. They haven’t figured it out yet and it most likely won’t be a great experience. An issue or two is expected but this was unacceptable.

"plane is just decrepit"

(Canada)

Not Verified | Toronto to Vancouver with WestJet Airlines. Paying $900 for a premium seat and plane is just decrepit and smells like filth. There are no chargers, the seats are torn, the carpets are completely ripped and the washrooms are full of mould. Stay away from this airline as the service is tanking and how they never reinvest their aircraft. If you do book with them ask him how old the plane is. You will be surprised.

"Not happy with WestJet"

(Canada)

Trip Verified | Winnipeg to Kelowna via Vancouver. Not happy with WestJet On Sept. 9, due to the sudden death of my sister’s son, she and I had to make reservations to fly from Winnipeg, MB to Kelowna, BC as soon as we were able to drive from Dryden to Winnipeg. Because of the tornado on the east coast of Canada causing flight changes and consequently tying up the phone lines, we were unable to talk to an agent to get a bereavement rate reservation. The waiting time for an agent was 3.5-4.5 hours. We then made reservations online to ensure we had seats, and drove the 4 hours to Winnipeg. Once there, we tried to get the bereavement rate with an agent, but as the reservation was already made we were told to call WestJet later. I talked to a West Jet agent by phone when I returned and she said she couldn’t do anything about crediting the account to allow for the difference in price. She said a bereavement reservation had to be done with an agent at the time, and that once the flight was charged, a refund could not be issued. The fact that this was an act of God and that the WestJet phone lines were tied up, making this impossible, made no difference. I told her if they can charge an account over a phone, they should be able to credit one also. Despite explaining this to 4 agents and a computer, they stood firm that the account cannot be credited. They gave 200 WestJet miles that have to be used within a year and which will never be used. It’s disappointing to me that WestJet can’t give a break to my sister at a time when she certainly doesn’t need any more hassles or expenses. It is just another case of the bureaucratic red tape world we live in where common sense no longer prevails and where, even if you get a live person, they talk like programmed automatons.

"no realistic option but to accept"

(United Kingdom)

Trip Verified | I took a trip to Vancouver from Gatwick in August and then returned from San Francisco back to London in September. On the return leg, I had my flight cancelled by Westjet and then was re-booked onto a flight with Aer Lingus. However, at the Aer Lingus Check-in desk, having been offered no practical alternative to my flight I was told I would have to pay an extra USD100 to take my bicycle on the flight. I specifically chose Westjet as an airline that did not charge extra extortionate fees for this. That USD100 added an extra 20% onto the total cost of my flight a cost that I had no realistic option but to accept. Westjet said it was not their problem and would have nothing to do with either a full or partial re-imbursement despite the fact that the large additional cost was caused by them and hidden up until the point of no return.

"lost a customer permanently"

(United States)

Not Verified | Vancouver to Tampa via Winnipeg / Toronto. We checked 2 bags in Vancouver at a cost of 63.00 with the reasonable expectation that we would not see them again until we reached Tampa. We had connecting flights to Winnipeg and then to Toronto. We arrived in Winnipeg at 11:55 pm and my Wife and I proceeded to the gate for our next leg to rest since we had a 5 hour layover before our flight to Toronto. At 12:25 am I was approached by an employee of WestJet and informed the we needed to go claim our bags and at 3 am or when check-in reopened go through check-in process again. This was and is the most absurd thing I ever heard of and is totally unacceptable, especially for 2 travelers ages 71 and 68 who were already carrying 2 carry on bags. There were other passengers who were faced with the same issue and they were just as upset. I paid 63.00 for my bags to be handled from Vancouver to Tampa and for them to do this to me constitutes a contract breach as far as I am concerned. Needless to say they have lost a customer permanently.
