"not my idea of a vacation"

Trip Verified | I was disgusted during my entire journey from Newark to San Diego with United Airlines. Not sure if I was singled out or not but I was forced to check-in my carry-on. I carried my suitcase for a reason, I didnt want to check it in. Already annoyed, I boarded the plane to find out that there were multiple issues with the plane causing us to wait onboard. After several hours they told us we could deplane, use the restrooms and grab a quick bite. Being one of the first off the plane, the lady at the door said with an attitude that if we weren't back when they close the doors then we were out of luck. I asked her if there was going to be an announcement. She said we will announce it at the door but not over the loud speaker. How can you say that to people that are deplaning? It's their duty to announce the closing of the gate so everyone that left can hear. Long story short, there was a 6 hour delay and we had to board a new plane. We were given $10 voucher for food but that couldnt even buy me a sandwich. I lost all of my daylight time at my destination. Annoyed about having to wait at baggage claim, once I recieved my carry-on I noticed all of the zippers were opened. This is not my idea of a vacation.

"crew were unbelievably rude"

Trip Verified | Started with 1 hour and 45 min flight delay out to Santa Ana. The crew were unbelievably rude. Poor elderly folks trying to catch their connecting flights were trying to figure out what they should do and the advise is this, "if it were me, I would get off the plane and find another day to fly" or it was a short and impatient tone. The same crew responded to me in the same way when I asked if they could let the gate of the connecting flight know that I would be running almost a half a mile accross the airport to reach my connection. After running accross the airport and reaching my connecting gate, the guy manning the stand said I'm sorry they pulled the bridge back already, the plane had not even left yet. This was the last flight out for the night which led to me missing an event. The next day, the app made me walk a mile out of the way to the wrong terminal. I finally got on the plane and guess what, the plane happens to be the smallest plane available. To give you perspective, I am 6'7m, the height of the roof of the plane was about 5'8. To top it all off, my flight was 30 min delayed on my final departure. I will never again fly with United Airlines.

"United has already wasted my time"

Trip Verified | I have flown on countless airlines, internationally and domestically and today, I encountered the worst of my experiences with United Airlines 18 hours before I even needed to be at the airport. Upon receiving multiple emails reminding me that it was time to check in for my flight, I went to the website to check in only to be told that I could not. After multiple attempts on multiple devices, I finally received an email telling me to call United in order to check in. The associates informed me that I could not check in due to the fact that I had booked an economy ticket and did not have a checked bag. If I purchased a checked bag, I would be able to check in online. Please note that this policy change is new and it is buried in the fine print way down a page that can be accessed through a prompt that is in fine print, in a nearly transparent color. There is a red box on the page where you confirm your ticket that offers trip advisory/restrictions on the flight and it can be seen clear as day and this policy is not addressed there. You have to dig for it. I needed the mobile pass due to scheduling and not being able to get to the airport in enough time to wait in line to check in and then again to get through security and after speaking to 3 people, I was informed that there was nothing that any of them could do. So now, 18 hours before I even get to the airport, United has already wasted my time, messed up my schedule, misled me and tried to extort me into purchasing the checked bag (which I don't need), just so I can get the mobile boarding pass and adhere to my schedule. Don't let it happen to you. Such a scam.

"Absolutely terrible airline"

Trip Verified | Auckland to Boston via San Francisco. Absolutely terrible airline. On the way from Boston to Auckland, our first flight was delayed (for no apparent reason) causing us to miss our connecting flight in California. After significant asking, we were transferred to an American flight from LA to Auckland, because otherwise we would be stuck in California. Being aboard the American Airlines flight was actually such a luxury, the seats reclined and the TV's actually worked. Unfortunately we had to fly United back from Auckland to Boston. The seats were cramped, hardly reclined. Then flying back from SFO to Boston, the flight attendants were rude and we actually didn't even get pretzels. Only a glass of water for a 5 hour and 20 minute flight.

"never traveling them again"

Trip Verified | Terrible company. I used to think it was one of the best companies to travel with. Never traveling with them again. Our flight got delayed in Miami and had a connecting flight to Denver from Houston obviously missed our flight in Houston. Company refused to pay for our hotel room and claimed it was not their fault. Not even offered a amenity bag with products. Traveled with lower cost airlines had a better treatment. Next day flew to Denver from Houston made me pay 50$ for a small personal bag. Are you kidding me?

"very bad service"

Trip Verified | San Jose to Houston via Denver. Very bad service with United. My fiancé and I had tickets together and selected seats on both flights but when we checked in they were changed twice and there were people in our seats with our same seat number on our ticket so we were forced to move.

"extremely annoyed"

Trip Verified | Chicago to Columbus. Nearly missed the flight because they changed gates (to a completely different area of the airport) and only informed us through an indecipherable, static-y speaker. Extremely annoyed. Last time I flew with them, I missed my first flight on a round trip ticket because of a job interview. They cancelled my return flight with no refund and did not send an email or anything about it. It probably said that would happen in the fine print, but an email would have been nice.

"aren't going to fly this airline again"

Trip Verified | Vienna to Newark via Zurich with United (Vienna to Zurich on Austrian, Zurich to Newark on United). We checked in two days before the flight and reserved seats, my one was 24K, so we do not sit split across the whole plane. When we arrived at the gate in Zurich, they gave us new Boarding cards with other seats across the whole plane. As we flew with our children, my wife and me would like to sit next to them. But United couldn't change the seats, so we had to accept it. Finally in the plane, most of the flight attendants were very rude, there was just one friendly FA on board. The food tasted horrible. It was the worst I've ever eaten in my whole life. Also the wifi didn't work. During the flight, the FA's were gone, we couldn't order something to drink and all the rubbish had to go into the seat pocket. Just before landing they handed out something like a Leach-Pizza piece. That also didn't taste good and it was full of fat. We aren't going to fly on this airline again.

"Never flying United again"

Trip Verified | Flew Orlando, FL to Philadelphia, PA. 10 and a half hours sitting in airports! Our first flight was delayed an hour and a half due to United’s fault, causing us to miss our connection. The next flight United could offer us was 9 hours later because they over booked all other flights. This is unacceptable! Basically, if you miss your flight due to United’s fault, you will be stuck sitting in the airport for many hours with a paltry $10 food voucher. Never flying United again.

"how inconsiderate and rude"

Trip Verified | Newark to Savannah. Extremely disappointed in my recent experience with United. I was flying back home from EWR with my carry-on dog. I had all the necessary paperwork, carrier, and I had purchased the dog a ticket as instructed (note: this was my first time flying with my dog on a United flight, I usually fly JetBlue with her). When I go to board the woman scanning my ticket said she was changing my seat for me. I said "thank you" thinking that would be a nice gesture, but I was wrong. Once on board she came on the plane and told me that I was not allowed to sit in that seat (the one she changed me to) with a pet because it had no seat in front of it to stow the animal. I asked if I could move back to my original seat and she told me no. The flight attendants, as well as other people on the plane tried to talk her into letting me change my seat and she still refused, called a manager, and proceeded to kick me off of my flight. It was the most HORRIFIC experience in my entire life. She booked me on a later flight and forgot to transfer my dog over to that ticket, so when I boarded the later flight they were giving me a difficult time having the dog. This I do understand because they didn't have a record of it. However, once we got it all sorted out and everything was fine, they attendants refused to give me any water or take my trash. It was like I never existed on the flight! I am blown away by how inconsiderate and rude United was to me. From the ticket lady to the flight attendants on my later flight. It seems that across the board they value unprofessional behavior. I am originally from NJ so I do understand the somewhat lack of compassion inside the actual airport, but that isn't something that should transfer over to the airline or flight.
