"repeatedly refused to even help us"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Customer service sucks. Our United Airlines flight arrived late due to surprise de-icing? We arrived at gate 94 just in time to watch them close the door in front of us. The gate attendant, refused to make any attempt to get us on the plane and quickly rehearsed her "It's not my problem" script. We next had the misfortune of meeting the operations manager for United in Denver. He repeated the same "It's not my problem" script and then repeatedly refused to even help us to the customer service desk. Complete apathy and lack of ownership. The only small respite was a staff member who reluctantly agreed to help us complete a reimbursement request.

"never ever again will I fly this airline"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Flew Newark to Savannah. I fly 4-6 times a year but never United. I have to say, I now know what all of the negative public reviews are about. I was yelled at by the boarding guy because he told me my bag was not compliant with flight regulations. I told him that my bag was compliant but that I had my handbag stacked on top which made it look bigger. He held up the line and made me place the bag in the size checker. I took out my shower shoes which I had just placed in the front pocket and he tried to publicly humiliate me as if I were senile if my bag at the gate. My husband told him that I literally just put them in the front pocket because they were in my hand bag and he was so rude and obnoxious to my husband whom never speaks and is a proper gentleman. Due to Inited’s notorious treatment of its customers, I told my husband it was not worth it and let’s just let her get on with it as my bag clearly fit and was compliant with regulations. I guess my point is never ever again will I fly this airline!

"experience has been terrible"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Indianapolis to Newark. The flight delayed for 7 hours because of waiting for aircraft. We had to fly with different airline to get to our destination on time to attend an important event. Furthermore, without notification, our seats on a return flight was automatically cancelled. As a result, we have to take a much later flight to go back home. Our overall experience with United airlines has been terrible!

"service was efficient and friendly"

(United States)

Trip Verified | London to Washington. United's Polaris Business Class service on this flight was efficient and friendly. The 787's business class arrangement is a bit better than that of the 777, but still lags behind the comfort of some of its competitors. Still, the food has been upgraded somewhat, but gone are some of the original Polaris amenities - ie., the second pillow, the bloody mary carts, etc. Slippers must be asked for. Overall it was comfortable with generally good service. Entertainment choices are immense. My main course, ravioli, was a bit too undercooked for my taste. I did not take the second meal, but it looked quite tasty. My only real complaint here would be the state of the toilet which was a mess within a couple hours of takeoff. Obviously no crew member ever looked. But it would be nice if United had someone straighten up the toilet at least once during the flight.

"never fly your airline again"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Seattle to Oklahoma City. Flight was delayed for maintenance at Sea Tac airport. They told us it would be about 17 minutes and we would make all connecting flights. Then it was delayed 30 minutes, then an hour before they finally boarded us. They told me I still might make my connecting flight from Denver to OKC, but if not, they would switch my flight to Tulsa which took off 35 minutes later. She said they'd take care of everything mid-air. They told us on the plane there would be CS reps to help us with our connections. It was one guy who simply asked where you were going and he'd direct you to the gate. I walked 30+ gates away to get to my connecting flight. They didn't have me in the system, and didn't have my luggage transferred. He sent me back to a United customer service desk that turned out to be closed when I got there. He closed the gate, so I couldn't make Tulsa either. So I had to go back 30 gates, stand in line for 2 hours, and be told I wouldn't be able to get to OKC until about 12:30. There were so many people in the customer service line, not just people from our flight. I didn't see this with any other airline as I walked through DIA. Once I finally got through the long line, the lady at the Customer Service desk was friendly and helpful as she could be given the circumstances, but United really blew it and I missed my mother's funeral. I will never fly your airline again.

"most terrible airline"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Fort Lauderdale to Washington via Newark. This is the most terrible airline in the world. My flight was delayed and then my airline was understaffed causing me to miss my layover flight. There were no more flights to DCA for the rest of the night so they put me on a little plane and flew me to Richmond (three hours from my house) so I could then take a taxi all the way home. In the meantime losing my luggage and getting that three days later. Cherry on top - they refuse to give me a refund.

"Wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy"

(Canada)

Trip Verified | Nightmare Experience. Flying from Edmonton to Norfolk. Spent 2 hours on the tarmac in Denver before flying to Newark. Newark was cancelling and delaying flights left and right. United rebooked me onto a flight to Norfolk 30 hours later and I was not going to waste a day in Newark. My fiance said he would drive to Richmond to come get me if I could book a flight there. First time rebooking to Richmond, the United Service Assistant was very rude and didn't seem to care about my situation. Ripped up my luggage tag, as it was on the back of my boarding pass, even though I had asked for it back and rebooked me on a flight to Richmond that left at 6.30. It was 6.20. Had to run down to the shuttle to get from Terminal C to Terminal A in order to get to my gate. Plane was gone by the time I got there. Stood in another customer service line to get onto another flight to Richmond. This service assistant was a lot more helpful and seemed like he cared. So thank you to him. Got me booked onto the next flight out to Richmond that night. Got to Richmond and my luggage was not there. Spoke to a luggage assistant there who was really kind and was able to locate my luggage without the luggage tag. Luggage was in Newark still and I could expect to see it delivered the following morning. I've been here for 2 days now and still do not have my luggage. Everytime I check or call the number all I'm told is that "staff are still in the process of locating my luggage". What happened? It feels like after I landed in Newark and the flights to Norfolk were cancelled that my luggage just got tossed aside somewhere and now they can't find it. That or it feels like it's not a priority to them. Maybe I'm being selfish, but I literally only have the clothes on my back and what was in my carry-on with me. I have prescriptions in my luggage that I'm going without. I leave in 3 weeks, so I hope to have my luggage by then. But I'm considering cancelling and rebooking my return trip with someone else because I don't want to have to relive this nightmare again. Wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy.

"terrible service and attitude"

(United States)

Trip Verified | San Francisco to Sacramento. Terrible service and attitude. I travel for a living and will continue to avoid flying with them unless it’s the last option! Bags were also late. It would seem fairly simple to me that service with a smile should be of the upmost priority. Hopefully they can and will put effort into fixing their issues.

"a very good experience"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Boston to Chicago. The flight was excellent and beyond expectation. Boarding went quickly and smoothly and we pushed back from the gate 10 minutes early. The IFE started to glitch out during the safety video, so the crew did a manual demonstration and also let us use the IFE for free (United normally charges for it). The service started a bit late but when it did the crew was friendly and energetic. I felt welcomed and it made my flight that much better. The legroom in Economy+ is excellent, it is almost 10 extra inches than regular economy - well worth the money! The seats were a bit tight in width but other than that, very comfortable. The pilots were interactive, keeping us informed. Overall it was a very good experience with United.
