"complaint is with customer service"

Trip Verified | Cincinnati to Fort Walton Beach. I chose to fly American Airlines because they had a flight leaving about an hour earlier than Delta. Boy was that about the biggest mistake ever. So the actual flying experience wasn’t bad at all. The problem came when my arriving flight into Charlotte, NC to catch a connection was delayed to the gate due to weather. Which was fine, we can’t control the weather. The delay also delayed my connecting flight to Fort Walton Beach. So I was still able to catch my connection. That’s fantastic. Absolutely it was. So I ask the boarding agent if there was a chance that my checked bag wouldn’t get transferred in time to the connecting flight. She said that it’s very possible that it won’t make it in time. So I said that’s ok I’ll work around picking up my bag the next day. And the next day (today) is where the problem started. I show up at 6am and there’s no one at the baggage claim office, no customer service representative to be found. I talked to the ladies at the ticket counter twice and they told me someone be down to help. So I’m there 3 hours before someone opens the door and it takes 2 minutes to get my bag. Why did it take 3 hours? The monitors show when they have flights departing and arriving. There was plenty of time between to accommodate the 2 minutes it took me to get my bag. My biggest complaint is with customer service. Everything else was as good as it could be.

"worst airline I've ever flown"

Trip Verified | Newark to New Orleans via Charlotte / Chicago. American Airlines is the worst airline I've ever flown. My 5:00 a.m. flight to Charlotte was delayed a little over an hour, because the AC was broken, after we were told it would take 10-15 min to fix. We then missed our connecting flight from Charlotte to New Orleans and the next one was almost 4 hours later. We had paid extra to have seats next to each other and in preferred seating and when we got off the plane and had to get new boarding passes we were basically told too bad nothing they can do about it. When we arrived to New Orleans everything in my bag was damp and all my clothes had to be put in the dryer. But i had nothing in my bag that could've leaked. On the way back, we had a layover in Chicago of an hour until our connecting flight to Newark. 40 minutes before our flight we found out we're delayed an hour and a half. Im sure 500 other things will go wrong before we even get back to Jersey. First and last time I fly American Airlines.

"no longer receive my service"

Not Verified | New York to Wichita. After flying once before with American and not having the best experience I decided to give them another shot. On the way here the service was great, 0 delays. Granted that was Memorial Day. Flying home this morning was a pain in the ass. It started arriving to LaGuardia airport this morning with staff who seemed to not be knowledgeable of what they were doing and told me all other flights were booked (not true). My flight was supposed to leave at 1030am from LaGuardia, which turned into 1130am then to 12.50pm mind you I had been sitting st the airport since 8.30am. The only flights left to my final destination was a 10.30pm flight out of DFW meaning I would sit in DFW for 6-7 hours or more depending on delays. Turning a 6 hour travel day into a 17 hour flight day. Additionally I would have missed that flight if I would have not gotten up to go to the restroom and so happen to look at the monitor to see that the gate had changed. No communication what so ever about the gate change. We did not depart to almost 1:15pm - mind you they gave us 0 information about the whereabouts or why our flight was delayed for nearly 2 hours. Finally we made it to Dallas 3.5 hours later. At this point I was tired and irritable. Thank you to the kind woman at DFW working for AA, who got me on a flight sooner than 1030pm, she was patient, kind and emphatic. She made sure I still had my first class seat and all. She turned a very long day into a better one. But after having a experience like this in the past, AA will no longer receive my service nor would I recommend them to anyone.

"not to use this airline"

Trip Verified | Sioux Falls to Chicago. Our flight was suppose to leave at 6 this morning and we won’t be heading out till 5pm tonight. This is very irritating because we spend a lot of money on our tickets to leave at a certain and were not even leaving anywhere in range to the original time. We received a $24 vouchers for two people for an 11 hour delay. I think that, that is pretty pathetic. We have places to see and things to do and this is a huge waste of my time. I will make sure to tell everyone not to use this airline.

"Not flying them again"

Trip Verified | Dallas to Cleveland. Gate got changed three times at the airport and the staff were very rude to everyone. Then once we board are already delayed flight, we sit on the plane for 30 minutes and still counting for a pilot. No one said anything to us until now. So, we still don’t know when we are going to start off. The smaller seats on this very crowded flight makes it all more fun to sit on a plane forever. Here’s hoping we actually get to move soon. Horrible airline! Not flying them again!

"Horrible customer service"

Trip Verified | Denver to Chicago, connecting to Helsinki with Finnair from Chicago. If you can, I would recommend not flying with them. There was a delay to our flight and 30 people were supposed to go on a connecting flight to Finland and they didn't hold the flight, then they promised to rebook everyones flights, and now they're saying all flights are booked until another 24+ hours and are not offering paid hotel vouchers or anything. Horrible customer service. very dissapointed.

"Worst experience ever"

Trip Verified | Worst experience ever! Going to see my son who is in the Air Force. Flight was delayed overnight. I had the worst help with assistance on changing my flight plans. I was not put up in a hotel, therefore had to pay for two separate hotel rooms as they are non-refundable. Had to change my car rental plans and pay a premium. I was not assisted by a single employee during this situation! I will never fly American Airlines again.

"avoid American airlines in future"

Trip Verified | Phoenix to Roanoke via Charlotte. Avoid the AA local flights out of Charlotte at all costs. Employees are rude and lazy. I will avoid American airlines in the future and cut up the AA credit card. Our money spends the same anywhere and don't need to be treated like these self entitled individuals are actually owed something. If you don't like your job then go somewhere else.

"offered cots to sleep on"

Not Verified | Chicago to Seattle. Our flight was scheduled for 8:10 pm on Wednesday night 5/30, originally but then was delayed 4 different times, 9:00, 10:00, 10:30, and finally was scheduled to depart 11:35 pm. Which I can live with and understand except that my girlfriend and I were sitting in the airport over 5 hours watching other planes takeoff. So we sat patiently for 5 hours and finally began boarding at 11:00 pm. American boarded the entire plane and was ready for take off, but then decided to cancel the flight at 11:47 which was after the rescheduled departure time. Then the earliest flight they could get me was in 24 hrs basically causing me to cancel my entire 3 day trip. Plus they didn't even give out hotel vouchers but instead offered cots to sleep on in the airport! I'm just really disappointed in the deception and lack of customer service/ courtesy. Airlines are allowed to do whatever they want and nothing is ever done about it, that's wrong. Treat customers better that's all we ask!

"American, you can do better!"

Trip Verified | The Walmart of airlines. Incredibly unremarkable. The International Premium Economy seats are rather nice. The staff seem to care, but it is the details that are desperately lacking, the food which borderlines on institutional, the staff that are nice, but lack passion and enthusiasm, and the paltry amenities that are likes of standard coach of its European rivals. The domestic leg of the journey was reminiscent of Aeroflot of the Soviet days: crammed seating, cabin staff that could not care and food for purchase that is very sub-standard. Come on American, you can do better!
