"boarding pass with no assigned seats"

Trip Verified | Miami to San Francisco. The plane was quite a new one, looked okay to me. The seat size in economy was quite alright for this type of plane. I suppose it is quite a failure if the only free service onboard was non-alcoholic beverages and a mini-bag of pretzels. No meal is provided for a 6-hour flight and the purchase options are very poor and not clear (it differs based on time and route). The in-flight entertainment on the contrary was a surprise - it worked well and the movie selection was quite wide. What I really don't understand is the seating allocation policy of the airline - we used it twice, always used the recommended kiosk self-check in option and in both cases we got a boarding pass with no assigned seats along with a note "please see agent at the gate", which we did and we got the boarding pass from him. I don't see the point of this weird policy and I don't like it.

"I was very dissatisfied"

Not Verified | I was very dissatisfied with American Airlines during my last trip. My flight from Colorado Springs to Shreveport was weather delayed in Colorado Springs. I understand that these things happen. But when arriving in Dallas to switch connections to go to Shreveport, I rushed to my gate and found that my plane was still at the gate. But they would not allow me to board. The flight departed earlier than scheduled with me watching it leave the gate without me. I was very disappointed that American did not notify the gate that a passenger was a few minutes late due to their late arrival of a connecting flight. It is not like it was an hour or more, it was 10 minutes at most. Other airlines that I have flown have notified other gates of this happening, especially if it is weather related. I am a frequent flier on many airlines, and it has been done for me before. Due to this, I was under a lot of stress. My main reason for going to Shreveport was to meet my daughter and get her back home to Florida. I went to flight services in Dallas, and they were not any help at all. No monetary help or voucher for a hotel overnight either. They attempted to help me with getting my checked bag that arrived with me in Dallas, but the employee from my arriving gate had already gone home because it was after 9. Because of this, my bag left the next morning to go to Shreveport, even though I was going to be leaving from Dallas later in the day to go back to Florida with my daughter, who was arriving from Shreveport. To make things worse, I had to wait 6 days to get my suitcase returned to me in Florida. After checking with American baggage services, I found out that it stayed in Shreveport for 5 days sitting there. My bag had important business materials inside. Needless to say, unless it is a last resort, I will not be flying American Airlines again. They would not even offer me restitution or a baggage refund for my inconvenience unless I showed receipts of $150.00 or more.

"flights delayed, missed connection"

Trip Verified | Charleston to Bradley via Philadelphia. Absolute worst experience - flights delayed, missed connection, re-routed, flight delayed 3 more times due to a late crew, then boarded and told after that the pilot was then too tired for the 40 minute flight. We were promised hotel vouchers, food vouchers, etc as we were left in a airport at 10 pm with no where to go and no access to transportation or food given the time of night. The AA reps said to save all food and hotel receipts for reimbursement, in which AA is refusing to cover now. Instead, they offered a $200 voucher to fly in the next year which I refuse to do given my experience, and $120 towards the $340 hotel that was the only option left. They also refused to reimburse for meals and are refusing to escalate the matter as their Executives do not take part of these matters. Way to treat your customers American Airlines! Should have read all the negative reviews before I paid $600 for this flight that left me stranded for an extra 2 days in Philadelphia.

"not at all polite with me"

Trip Verified | Washington to Los Angeles via Dallas. The staff at the boarding time was very rude and unfriendly. The lady at the gate was very rude to me and my family, we were in Group 9,the lady kept on telling us that don’t you know what Group 9 means and acted not at all polite with me and my family. I understand that there are rules but there is better way of talking to customers and informing them the rules. This was my first time with American Airlines and my start of the trip was very disappointing. A staff cannot be so rude to my family just because we had more than one bag, and the extra bag was a purse and not a bag.

"Never flying AA ever again"

Not Verified | Puerto Vallarta to Tucson. We flew to Puerto Vallarta for our 15th anniversary. The flight there was great. We were saddened to return home from such a beautiful place filled with very nice people. We arrived at the airport early, at 10:00am. When we were trying to process our boarding passes, the woman working at the counter was extremely rude for some reason. Her and her colleague were rolling their eyes and seemed to be annoyed that I was speaking English with my American wife. They made derogatory comments towards my wife being American. She became irate when I was explaining to her that I was a Permanent U.S Resident. I speak fluent Spanish and she ignored me and said she had to call immigration in Phoenix? She left and returned to process my wife's pass. I asked her if I could explain to whomever she was trying to contact my status. I told her that I obviously boarded a plane to get here, and that I needed to get home. I was polite the entire time and she was rude to my wife for no reason. She then said. I can't let you board. No explanation what so ever. My heart sank. I maintain composure and asked her to let me talk to her imaginary friend who she supposedly called at Customs. She just smiled and said Sorry. I asked her to have my Wife board and then I would need a flight rearranged to my native Sonora so I could contact someone at the Consulate. She faked smiled again and said sorry, we can't do anything. She then said I would have to purchase another ticket. I promptly bought a ticket on AeroMexico and had no issues getting to Hermosillo, except for the fact that my Wife flew alone, She had to explain to my two kids that I was in Mexico because some AA rep at the desk was discriminating me because I am Mexican and live in the US, Not to mention I had to fly to Mexico City, get delayed to thunderstorms there 2 hours, finally flew to Sonora at Midnight. I arrived in Hermosillo at 2 in the morning. Somehow I got to the Nogales border, thanks to a friend. Crossed the U.S Border at 7am with no issues. I had to be at work. I was exhausted and very frustrated. Honestly a terrible way to end our 15 year anniversary. Never flying AA ever again.

"reasonably friendly in-flight service"

Trip Verified | New York to London. After reading many recent poor reviews of American Airlines, we were concerned that we too might have a flight of horrors. However, our experience was the opposite of most of the recent reviews. The Flagship Lounge at JFK, while very busy, provided a good opportunity for a pre-flight meal. The flight, AA 100, to LHR left a few minutes behind schedule, but landed on time. The flight attendants offered reasonably friendly in-flight service throughout. There was more food and drink on offer during the flight than anyone could have wanted (dinner, snacks, more snacks, breakfast). The lie flat seat, with Casper bedding, while a tad firm for some most likely, provided the opportunity to get a short nights sleep. Fortunately, we never experienced even one of the horrors that so many reviewers have written about. We will fly back to JFK on Monday, in the Premium Economy cabin, and if the experience is any different, based of course on what is reasonably expected in that cabin, we will add a review.

"delayed for more than 2 hours"

Trip Verified | Philadelphia to Manchester. The worst experience - flight delayed for more than 2 hours in May 2018, no snow, no natural conditions, and no compensation for the delay. This flight is not for you if u are planing to return back to work on time. International flights delay first - they try to delay 1:45 hours so as not to cross 2 hours then after they delay additional. No respect for customers timing

"no inflight entertainment"

Trip Verified | Austin to Lisbon via Philadelphia. Avoid this airline unless you are a masochist. On the Philadelphia - Lisbon leg we experienced a 4 hr delay and two equipment changes. On the return, the DFW - AUS leg, a 90minute delay and a gate and equipment change. Not surprising really with the very very old planes being flown. Thet certainly show their age, rattling like a tin can at take off and landing. And how about a transatlantic flight these days with no inflight entertainment? Yep still the norm on AA flying the 767. And anyone who thought that the MD-80 was strictly a museum piece, well no, it's part of the AA fleet. No surprise the constant maintenance issues and consequent delays..

"service was very poor"

Trip Verified | Flew American Airlines from Miami to London. Cabin was reasonable but service was very poor. One visit for both bar and meal. No response to in-seat steward request to collect tray meaning a walk to the end of the plane to get someone. Ground service was a bit harsh.

Not Verified | Terrible. Absolutely terrible, both to and from Philadelphia and Phoenix. Boarded and got off the plane both times because of an issue, you think they would have resolved that before letting everyone get on. They let us sit forever blaming it on catering and other various issues. Don’t get me wrong I’m glad they didn’t fly with any detrimental issues to the aircraft but come on. Also both times, there was an error with calculating carry one baggage leaving no room for the last passengers to board and they did not complimentary check any. Will never fly with American Airlines again.
