"don’t deserve your loyalty"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Chicago to State College. Use another airline! I purchased my flight and had strict travel needs. American Airlines told me that they overbooked the flight and I was denied boarding. Consequently, I had to rent a car and drive all night to ensure I could meet my obligations. Evidently, they always overbook the flights with the idea they’ll solicit some to give up their seats. How can they sell seats they don’t have? Never use this airline! They don’t deserve your loyalty or respect since they give none to their customers.

"by far the worst experience"

(United States)

Not Verified | Charlotte to Denver. This has been by far the worst experience I have had flying to and from my wedding/honeymoon! Every time I asked for help kindly and calmly, for example that the customer service agents (4 of them) when asked to please help as I am physically running to my transfer flight, looked at me like I was dumb. We then proceeded to run through the airport, my wife began to vomit. Also, due to the delays I don't get to spend the night in my honeymoon suite with my wife but instead on the airport floor and lost my hotel $.

"Would not recommend"

(United States)

Not Verified | Dallas to Columbus. Would not recommend. Pay up and get a reliable trip booked through another airline. Even though open seats are open on other flights they will under no circumstances change your flight without getting another full charge. Also, very well known for delays and better at making excuses for those delays than addressing them. Do yourself a favor and book through a more credible airline.

"avoid this airline"

(United States)

Not Verified | Dallas to Tokyo. On Thursday, October 10, I was scheduled to fly to Tokyo on AA175. When I arrived in Dallas they cancelled the flight 10 min before departure. They claimed it was because of a typhoon in Tokyo, yet Delta, Japan Airlines, and every other airline flew to Tokyo that day. The typhoon was not scheduled to arrive until Sunday the 13. They did not pay for my hotel in Dallas and they left 300 stranded passengers sitting in the airport lobby with only 2 agents rebooking people. Then every agent left and they told people to use the app or call customer service. I will never fly this airline again, and I have zero trust in American. Please avoid this airline as I ended up paying over $200 in hotels out of pocket.

"poor maintenance strikes again"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Phoenix to Boston. American's poor maintenance strikes again. 15 minutes before boarding they delay the flight 3 hours. They just realized the plane couldn't fly. Why they only realized it 15 minutes before boarding makes no sense. Then they delayed another 3 hours - 6 in total - because they couldn't find another airplane. To be certain we don't get too hopeful the customer service person said not to get too hopeful that plane will be cleared to fly to Boston. But they did provide 5 sandwiches for over 100 people and keep updating us on the progress of a different flight out of Portland. We are in Phoenix.

"never fly American Airlines again"

(Australia)

Trip Verified | New York JFK to Heathrow. Initially we booked on line and did not get our reservation for myself and my son but they were quick to take the payment On getting to the airport we had to go look for the business check in which was away from the gates and the check in counters for all other passengers. On checking in they had lost my sons booking and his seat he booked was given away and they could not allocate a seat we had to go to the lounge. Crazy they then haul the luggage back to the economy check in while we walk back the same way to go through customs. Customs are rude and obnoxious and do nothing the security search backs up and no one will pick up a tray and tell customers to pack trays. In the lounge No surprise they could do nothing and said we should go to the gate. Well the rudest woman was at the gate that snarled and after standing around for some time allocated a seat that was not a window seat as requested. We fly frequently and America airline ground staff must be the laziest and most obnoxious people around. We will never fly American Airlines again.

"a disaster from the beginning"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Houston to Dallas to Lubbock. Our flight with American Airlines was a disaster from the beginning. Charged $60 to book by phone with an agent, flights were late, airplane dirty, and in the Lubbock airport the gate number was never published on the flight boards and we almost missed our flight because we didn’t know which gate. When I mentioned this to the attendant at the desk, she acted as if she couldn’t have cared less - she didn’t ask me to explain she just acted dumb and confused.

"Another poor experience"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Another poor experience with AAL: again, they refused to check my suitcase through to my final destination under the pretext of "safety:" I do not understand how having two separate tickets endangers safety when more than 700 airlines worldwide regularly interline baggage among themselves. It's really a question of "laziness." Why did we buy two separate tickets? It's a well-known travel agent cost saving measure and we save £900 by doing so. (It was colossally inconvenient to pass through immigration, collect our suitcases, take the train to T5, recheck suitcases, go through immigration & security again.) I flew on Alaska last month to Fort Lauderdale and they without question transferred my suitcase to Delta for the continuing trip to South America. Is American Airlines asserting that Alaska and Delta are unsafe carriers? I purchased a Lufthansa ticket last year from Chicago to Münster with a LH compensation voucher and so the connecting flight to it on United had to be issued separately. Are both United and Lufthansa unsafe operations according to American Airlines? But American regularly disservices the flying public. In August I was denied entry into the Admirals' Club at Roissy because their boarding pass reader wouldn't read my boarding pass (somehow that was MY fault). At my connexion city (London) they simply reissued the boarding pass so that their reader would admit me. But since when are human beings the tools of the computers? When their management doesn't allow them to make reasonable common sense decisions! In August I was charge 50€ for a suitcase to check even though I was Platinum elite and am allowed two suitcases complimentary. The pretext? The ticket was issued by Finnair. I am suing them now and have learnt that their defence will be that I used my Alaska FF account. I only changed from my AA account after they charged me the fee: who wants to patronised a company that rips off their best customers? They are dishonest and deceptive and should be sanctioned and regulated fully by the DOT. I must say I was surprised on board: everyone was professional and courteous - quite a surprise from American Air Lines where most stewardess have chips on their shoulders and check their bid sheets in the galley when they should be working.

"the rudeness was unnecessary"

(Canada)

Not Verified | Vancouver to Phoenix. The flight was on-time leaving and arriving. The check in process took too long and was incomplete. Only one service agent was dealing with check ins with a queue that had a family with infants and 3 other service agents dealing with almost no one at the service kiosk. This meant longer wait for the family with infants. After checking in there was no plastic bags offered for the car seats and strollers that had to be checked in. This meant we had to go back to the check in counter after getting told by YVR oversize baggage people that the plastic bags were only available at at the check in counters. By the time we went to the check in counter the counters were not manned by anyone. We however found an American airline service agent at the kiosk area and asked for the plastic bags. There were no plastic bags available as cabinets were locked so the agent had to ask for the bags from Alaskan airlines. The service by flight was very bad. There was no help offered to adults with infants on boarding and during the flight when it was needed most. When flight attendant was asked to assist to put milk in the coffee she was not happy and showed that she was so and warned me condescendingly about scalding the baby with hot coffee - all the rudeness was unnecessary.

"Hugely disappointed! "

(United States)

Trip Verified | Edinburgh to Philadelphia. We decided to Supposedly upgrade our flights on our vacation to Scotland, so we paid several thousand dollars to upgrade our seats for an enjoyable experience. What a huge, enormous mistake! We had one good flight out of six flights back-and-forth to Scotland. The only decent flight was between Phoenix and Edinburgh on a 777–200. Nice business class Seats, good service and average food. After that it all went downhill! I read reviews previous to leaving and was a little nervous about what to expect. I don’t normally listen to negative reviews completely but I should have! These were the worst seats I’ve ever experienced! The planes were old and dirty. The food was barely edible and the seating was extremely bad. I basically paid thousands of dollars to have hard seats that had a little bit more legroom and width. The last flight was over five hours and was the most uncomfortable flight of all! When I got on the third flight of the day and saw how bad the interior of the plane looked and how cramped it was it made me ill. My husband was sick and had to sit straight up sleeping the whole time! He tried to treat me to nice experience and instead we were angry all day about how much money we wasted! We had TV screens in “one” out of six planes. Even the business class had no screens even on the back of the seats. Almost all airlines have screens on the back of the seats even in economy. I had to “pay extra” for Wi-Fi and to download the American Airlines app to attempt to fill in the time when I was unable to sleep. They don’t tell you this until you get on the plane and then you have to rush to download the app and less you’ll have nothing the whole entire flight! Never again will we pay American Airlines for flights to anywhere within the US or around the world. The only positive comment is for the staff on these planes. With people complaining and uncomfortable they maintained their gracious composure. Hugely disappointed! Embarrassed for the people who have to work for that airline!
