"not flying American again"

Not Verified | San Antonio to Albuquerque via Dallas. I had the worst experience in my 40 years of flying with this airline. Late flights, which caused me to miss a flight, I did get on a flight that put me in Albuquerque at one o’clock in the morning (it was late, also) and to add insult to injury, my luggage was still in Dallas. They had five and a half hours to get their act together and get the luggage in the right place. I am still waiting for my luggage to be delivered to me. I have been told it is out for delivery, but no sign of it yet. They also kept changing gates for the flight that kept getting delayed. The bus would’ve been faster. Nope, not flying American again.

"indifference staff showed was appalling"

Trip Verified | Nashville to Laredo via Dallas. I was supposed to depart at 6:30 AM arriving in Laredo at 11:09 AM for a meeting. Went to bed early for the early to find a text indicated my flight was delayed to 12:00 PM - they rebooked me on the 5:00 AM - arriving 12:39 PM. Every flight I have taken on this airline this year have had at least one leg with problems. When it happens, the indifference their staff showed to passengers was appalling. Their problem started with their people, which explain equipment problems then operational problems

"the worst airline so far"

Trip Verified | Miami to Georgetown. I am so upset with this airline. They have the worst customer service both in person and on the phone. I missed my flight because they gave me the wrong gate code. The gate code that they sent me via text said that it’s departing at gate E31. I checked on the information screen posted all over the airport and the the same gate was written and said gate E31. There was no recent text or update after that and when I went to the gate, there was nobody there and I checked the online status and the gate change to D60. The person I talked to at the rebooking booth literally told me that I should be checking their online app. I thought that the information provided via information screen all over the airport are updated as well. I also opted to get text notification for any changes but there was none sent out. They wanted me to call the number and the wait was an hour long. They can’t do anything for me. They won’t even allow me to book to the next earlier flight that they have because the connecting flight is not American Airlines. They obviously only want to book it through their airlines. They could have book me a flight to Nassau and got a connecting flight from there but they refused to do so. They wanted me to wait the next day for their airline. I even showed the guest services the pictures and text that I received and yet nothing was done for me at all and I am stuck in the airport for two days. This is the worst airline so far.

"never fly American Airlines again"

Trip Verified | Honolulu to Los Angeles. When we showed up to check our bags on our return flight nobody was working the baggage counter. Apparently this airport in Honolulu baggage claim closes for 5 hours in the morning from 7-12 and American Airlines failed to mention it. When I called they said I didn’t call to check the baggage counter hours so I am to blame. This airline is the only airline to close their baggage counter in the airport. They refused to assist in any way. I will never fly American Airlines again.

"They were not willing to assist"

Trip Verified | Norfolk to Peoria via Charlotte. This is a customer service review, not a flight review. I had military obligations come up requiring me to be on duty for the date of my flight so I would not be able to make my flight. They said I would not be able to cancel my flight or move it unless it was a change of order and first had to contact the commanding officer. Anyone with military experience knows that is unreasonable considering a CO doesn’t have time to deal with moving someone’s flight. They were not willing to assist any further than that. If you’re military I recommend looking elsewhere.

"can't bus you directly to connecting gate"

Trip Verified | Hong Kong to Tucson via Los Angeles. Out bound was fine, 4-6 hr layover at each airport, but easy to get from plane to plane. Coming back. Land in LAX at the remote international terminal and have to go through immigration (expected that) easy transport to the connecting flight - no. After immigration have to go through security (pretty stupid since I just got seen by 3 immigration people) then I have to walk myself out the building and over to the next terminal, then go through security again because they can't bus you directly to your connecting gate or at least to the main terminal with out you leaving and reentering, then my flight isn't on the board so have to ask 3 different AA personnel who give three vastly different answers on where my flight will be (each answer has me go to a totally different terminal) before my flight is finally put up on the board and I have to take a bus to another remote terminal (at least I didn't have to go through security again). Yes half of this review is on LAX but in reality when the airline leases the gates at the remote terminals they also contract how to get their passengers to/from those terminals and their connecting flights. Especially when the connecting flight is with a partner airline.

"condescending and rude"

Trip Verified | Charlotte to Dayton. I rarely fly so I don’t know the ropes. While the staff at the ticket counter were friendly and helpful, the woman at the counter outside the plane and the stewardess were condescending and rude. Such treatment of customers in my business would not be tolerated.

"never fails to screw up a trip"

Trip Verified | Dallas to Lima via Miami. American Airlines never fails to screw up a trip in every which way, then not properly compensate. I was supposed to be in Lima on this Wednesday evening at the nice hotel I booked, so I could fly to Cusco in the morning Thursday. They were boarding us onto our original flight which was Scheduled for 345 this afternoon From Miami, and as we were boarding they stopped boarding and said something was wrong with the plane so they sent us to another gate. 2.5 hours later they boarded us onto another plane where we flew for 30 minutes before they turned it around for another mechanical failure (one engine literally wasn’t working And we were greeted by a dozen firetrucks all surrounding the plane). We were then directed to the service desk, where I stood in line with 500 other people for 3.5 hours in line so that I could just get a meal voucher and a hotel. I had a flight from Lima to Cusco tomorrow, but they said since I didn’t book the Lima to Cusco through them they can’t help, and they also can’t help that I have to find accommodations in lima tomorrow night because of this. On top of everything, they kept all our bags so there are no clean clothes or toiletries. They made me check my carry on too, so my valuables and medicine are now sitting in the airport for 24 hours. So I lost a day, $600 dollars, sleep. I'm still waiting for the shuttle to take me to the hotel in Miami, and I won’t be there until after midnight tonight The only airline worse than American is Spirit.

"Overall a good experience"

Trip Verified | London to St. Louis via Dallas Ft Worth. Flight was leaving from a remote stand, so since I need assistance I was delivered to the plane via a lift. After boarding we were put on a 30 minute hold by the tower which is not abnormal for Heathrow. Arrived late in Dallas to find that I was already re-booked and assisted to the plane. The flight from London was wonderful with attentive flight attendants and very good food. The IFE was up to date and easy to use. I didn't try using the Wi-Fi. The flight to St Louis was on a A319 which I find confining even in first class. Overall a good experience; very well taken care of.

"No empathy, no apology"

Trip Verified | Do not fly this airline! Our trip started out flying from Los Angeles (LAX) to Dallas (DFW), then onto Paris (CDG), then to Munich (MUN) for Oktoberfest. The flight from LAX to DFW was ok which is the only reason I gave a 1 out of 5 rating. Where the trip went sideways was during our layover in DFW. We experienced a 30-minute or so delay to board the plane - no big deal, as intentionally purchased a ticket from CDG to MUN with a longer layover in case anything happened. So once all passengers were on the plane roughly 30 minutes behind schedule, we sat there for another 2-hours before actually taking off. After patiently sitting in our seats for about one hour, I knew I had to speak up about our connecting flight to make the American Airline team aware of the situation. The flight attendant assured me we would be taking off "very shortly" and we would "make up time" while in the air, so I shouldn't worry. I was reluctant to believe the flight attendant so I asked if we could exit the plane to catch another flight to Paris. She would not let us leave the plane. Rather than make a scene, which would have been no good for anyone, I chose to sit back down and wait patiently for our departure. We finally took off after sitting there for 2-hours! Of course, we did not make up any time while in the air and I'm almost certain we saw the Lufthansa connecting flight take off for Munich as we landed. Trying to keep my calm, I told the same flight attendant that we missed our connecting flight due to their delay. She said, "you'll need to call customer service and take it up with them." No apology, no help whatsoever with sorting it out. We got off the plane and I immediately called customer service. They shouldn't even have "service" in their name because they didn't do a damn thing to help, they were terribly rude. No empathy, no apology, nothing. Customer service said, "well, you took the flight, so there is nothing we can do." Of course, we took the flight because they wouldn't let us off the plane even after sitting there for hours! Already late to our Oktoberfest plans, I was then forced to spend another 650 EURO for two tickets from Paris to Munich. Called customer service again and demanded a refund for our flight or at least credit towards another flight. Nothing, but rude attendants on the other line saying, "there is nothing we can do".
