Jakarta Airport

T1: CGK - SUB with Lion Air. The architecture of terminal is great giving you natural and warm feel. however queue time is always problematic which is caused by overcrowded check in took roughly 15 minutes. Boarding room is adequate and more spacious after renovation. T1C offer more facilities as there are duty free shops. T2: CGK - SIN with Lion Air. T2 is better than T1. more selection of shops and feels much cleaner. Immigration on departure took 10 minutes on arrival however took almost half an hour. Boarding room is pretty much the same with T1. T3 Phase 1: CGK - SUB with Air Asia. Boarding room feels much more spacious and much less overcrowded compared to T1. Looking forward for T3 Ultimate under construction now.

Despite the unique airport structure and exotic design CGK airport (Terminal 2) is by far the least favourite airport for me. This is because the airport is chaotic and it is overcrowded due to over-capacity and it is very disorganised for an important and the busiest international airport in the region. The toilets should be well maintained and the air conditioning has to be enhanced for a better experience overall. I hope that CGK will be improved in the near future to the likes of KUL and SIN.

Flew from BKK to JKT overall I still find it a very exotic airport of it's kind rather than boring concrete block of sorrowness that some other airports have. I loved the ceiling design and the garden view from the window. Its not as bad as many claim the airport to be and there is a free wifi in the airport and most of the lounges at the airport offers it the food offered at batavia lounge is excellent.

The airport is a bit old and aged it could use few beautification and fixing up but other than that its a good looking airport it has this very warm welcoming environment. Staff could do with more smiles facilities are fairly adequate there are great selection of food and shops in the airport. Immigration are fairly efficient and surprisingly fast baggage came out fairly quick and it only took me around 20 minutes or so to get out from the airport. Illegal taxis needs to be dealt with. The airport could use a free wifi since its almost all over the world right now and its very convenient for passengers and businessman provided airport is likely to delay a flight due to queuing planes and definitely more seating is required.

The international terminal (2D) has a unique architecture. While it is old in comparison with SIN or KUL artwork plants as well as natural lights give passengers more relaxed atmosphere. However the structure also makes passengers' walking distance longer especially for arrivals. International arrivals are nightmare. You may expect as long as two hours (unless you have an Indonesian passport) to clear immigration. On my recent arrival from Singapore. The officer directed us to one of the visa on arrival counters available. However when I almost reached the counter the counter was closed and thus we were directed to the end of the line for the other counter. With four flights arriving only three immigration booths for non-Indonesians were available. Departure was much smoother however the procedure (Lobby - Security - Check-in - Passport Control - Departure Lounge - another security - gate) was different from many other airports. It must be very hard for those who depart from this airport for the first time as there is not signs to tell you what to expect next and it is rather difficult for us to figure out how far the gates are from departure lounge areas where shops and airlines lounges are. It may take another 10 minutes walk plus another security before reaching your gates.

The airport has made great strides in the past 5 or 6 years to get passengers processed quickly and efficiently. However with the exception of the new domestic terminal this airport is very old with poor air-conditioning. Check in process for the international terminal is easy. Plenty of room. Only passengers actually flying are allowed at the check in area. The next step of going through immigration is much quicker than before as more immigration counters and agents have been added. However beware the immigration officers at this airport are very rude disrespectful and overall have an arrogant attitude to all. Once through immigration the process to get to your gate is easy with plenty of shops and restrooms and dining. It's just that the building is old dated and not enough AC. On inbound flights the process of passing through immigration for foreigners has improved dramatically and I now consider it one of the fastest airports that I know of to pass through immigration. However where Soekarno-Hatta airport fails is in the baggage claim customs and parking. Baggage claim facilities are ancient slow and crowded. Once you claim your baggage you must than have all your baggage go through an x-ray machine. This is ok except there is only one queue and one x-ray machine which means standing in what resembles a queue with many people jumping in front. Once you finally exit the baggage claim area you will be barraged by scores of locals trying to provide you with transportation to Jakarta. Overall for foreigners the immigration process is very good.

The speed of the immigration service has improved slightly but additional immigration counters must be added to cope with arrival passengers. The worst service from this airport is the customs. All passengers are required to place their carry-on items through an X-Ray machine. To make thing worse customs only opened one lane for people to check through. As a result passengers were queuing in a long line to get out. This has been going on for years without any improvement. My other comment is the parking facility of this airport is like a bus terminal rather than airport. This airport needed to be privatized and run by experts from international airport management before is degrade further.

Terrible Airport. I was there 4 times between 17 Dec 2012 and 7 Jan 2013 for international trips (SYD-JKT- SYD) and domestic trips (JKT-MES-JKT). Firstly the international arrival area looked quite old. Secondly the luggage handling was horrible. They mixed all luggage from 2-3 airlines in the same carousel. The problem was it took them so long to get all luggage out onto the carousel belt. There was a sea of human waiting in the baggage collection area with extremely long and messy queue. On the departure as usual we had to pay airport tax. We also observed a few people entering the lounge by illegally sneaking behind others who were being served by unsuspecting staff.

Over the year this airport just getting better and always tries to improve service quality. At peak hours this airport will be very busy the toilets clean but I think the main problem is the passenger itself - they lack respect of this airport by breaking the rules for example smoking. This airport has a smoking area. Overall this airport is good.

I landed at terminal 2 pretty good with exotic designs. I've also been landed at terminal 3 which is the best terminal at this airport but a terminal for low-cost carrier such as AirAsia and Tiger Mandala. Terminal 1 is quite busy. Particularly in terminal 1 C a very chaotic and badly unclear where the notice board and the schedule all wrong and sound boarding announcements and other announcements are barely heard anything. I've also been to terminal 1A very crowded and chaotic.
