The architecture is a bit traditional and old but it is still beautiful. However the services provided by security and immigration was not that friendly. It is a little bit crowded at the entrance and the security clearance was quite log. Many people simply cut off the queues. Inside the airport directions are quite simple and easy to understand. Pretty straight forward. Although not many staff can speak English they are very helpful and always smile.

Visa-on-arrival desk now much more efficient as they seem to have found software that can transfer your scanned passport details onto the visa stickers (they used to have to type all data manually). However issuing a full-page visa sticker for a stay of a few days is ridiculous and simply wastes an entire passport page upon every entry. In Japan the sticker is about the size of a postage stamp. On departure unnecessary waiting time is created by the surprise raid on departing passengers' wallets of Rp 150000 in cash. Most foreigners are out of local currency at that point in time. Why not collect the airport tax via the ticket like everywhere else?

I have been thru Soekarna Hatta airport (CGK) many times and I can say that the departure immigration area has improved somewhat although not up to the standards of Singapore or KL. The check in areas are OK staff friendly and professional after immigration there are a number of eating outlets but mostly local food - not international considering this is Jakarta's main international airport its disapointing. Recently I noticed two internet terminals which were free - neither have worked since the many times I have tried to use them. The arrival areas are another story dingy dim and many officials standing around doing nothing. Immigration is Ok but at peak times the lines are long which also goes for the visa on arrival counters. The bags seem to take forever to arrive off the belt and then when you clear customs hoards of taxi touts who don't seem to understand the word NO! The airport needs major renovation.

CGK is a small airport and can't be compared with KLIA or Changi. However upon arrival there are always lenghty immigration queues and signage is pretty poor. At departures to check in areas are pretty chaotic. Decent amount of food outlets and shopping.

Toilets in international departure hall were recently refurbished and quite nice. The newly refurbished Departure Immigration area is nice and bright. Arrival Immigration hall is dingy and unwelcoming with a lot of immigration officials hanging out doing nothing. I hope they do something about this since this area is travelers' first impression of Indonesia. The baggage takes forever to appear and the baggage pickup area is also dingy and unkempt. The public area both in departure and arrival hall feel like a provincial bus terminal. The inter-terminal connection are served by a ridiculously overcrowded small bus with random schedule. Poor lighting all around - are they trying to save electricity here? Taxi touts are the scourge of this airport. Watch out for a gang of well dressed youth who swarm around your luggage and "take the initiative" to "help" you load your luggage into your car they will then demand an exorbitant tips afterward. Parking lot is dark dirty and full of suspicious characters milling about. I'm not a big fan of this airport's traditional architecture - it doesn't help to cheer me up especially after a long haul flight. Either the designer failed to adapt traditional architecture for a modern airport or we may simply have to admit that traditional architecture are inappropriate for this purpose. I for one prefer Changi's nondescript yet efficient concrete box with plush carpeting adequate lighting and plenty of air-conditioning.

Travelling through Jakarta International for many years now and I must say I'm impressed with the level of service they have inside the airport. However after you passed customs and going to the meeting point you felt unsafe and the officials need to start addressing these issues. There are so many taxi touts and they are getting so aggresive even after we said no. Once you are inside the airport you feel like different world.

Been here once or twice a month during the past 2 years lots of improvements have been made especially for the toilets in both terminal. Terminal 3 dedicated for LCC is currently under development located right in front terminal 2 concourse F. Shuttle bus between terminal is available for free. Thankfully there are official airport taxis (the ones with airport taxi sticker on windshield) with metered-rates and reasonable surcharge. Just ignore the men offering (sometimes even pushing) you to rent their car as a taxi. Lightning is still poor some gloomy spots here and there. Good news for platinum credit card holders since there are many executive lounges available. Bookstore restaurants cafes duty free shops are still available after departure immigration check.

Many things are great many things are bad. Strong traditional architecture used in this airport nice immigration friendly check in. The bad things are poor quality of facility (especially the toilets) sometimes only few immigration tables open while many passengers waiting in a long queue unmaintained trolleys sometimes you can find beggars in the airport especially when you are having food outside of check in area. One thing I really don't like about this airport is the big differences between domestic Terminal (Terminal 1) and International Terminal (Terminal 2). Terminal 1 has bad quality of maintain while Terminal 2 has very good quality. In Terminal 1 you can't enter full air conditioned room unless you are a passenger. Waiting room for accompanier located outside. But overall this is a nice airport.

The arrival section of the airport need to be improved. It's dark along the hallway heading to immigration. It's very different and contrast compare with departure section. Only 1 Visa on Arrival window opened. Overall it's an okay airport.

Soekarno-Hatta has a good architecture inside but its facilities need reparation. Not very clean toilets are a bit dirty and started to rust. Lack of information center. Lack of immigration booths at arrival (many unused) etc. On the plus side tourist can make their visa at the time they arrived Jakarta terminals are well-built and a very good drop-off and pick- up zone.
