"Do not fly with Westjet"

Trip Verified | Waited in line at the gate for about 5min or more while the agent behind the desk ignored me and the lines piling up behind me. Didn’t look up or say anything just kept typing away without saying “he’ll help you in a minute”. A man came around the line and asked him a question and he immediately looked up and answered their query. People behind me in line got annoyed and it prompted me to just go up there and ask him my question. He didn’t seem pleased to answer any queries that Westjet, the airline he represents, messed up and made a mistake. Original flight got delayed by an hour and a new boarding pass was emailed out saying the new gate was now c80, not D80 which was the original gate on the original boarding pass. I asked two security agents at YYC airport and they said Westjet made a mistake and that the gate should still be D80 as C80 doesn’t exist. This screw up made me walk around the airport for 30+ min. Very poor customer service skills. Do not fly with Westjet

"Worst flight experience ever"

Trip Verified | Worst flight experience ever! We booked our trip via Delta, who scheduled this leg of the trip through their partner, WestJet Airlines, and the final leg out of LaGuardia was via Delta. The check-in counter at Edinburgh stated they could only print boarding passes for the 2 WestJet flights, and we would need to obtain the Delta boarding pass in New York. This was the beginning of our problems. Flight to Toronto was fine, on time, and as we expected, the Toronto airport is a mess. Since it was an international arrival we had to retrieve our checked luggage to go through customs, then re-check. At the baggage check counter we were told we could only check them as far as LaGuardia and would have to again retrieve them and also visit the Delta ticket counter to get our final boarding pass. Not only that, the boarding process in Toronto was totally chaotic thanks to the boarding gate employees. Upon arrival in LaGuardia we waited 20 minutes for our bags, which did not appear. A very helpful baggage agent advised us they had actually been sent on to our final destination, so we went to the Delta counter to get our boarding passes. However, by this time we had totally missed our connection, the last of the day, so we had to obtain a hotel room. In addition, the entire problem was caused by WestJet so Delta could not be responsible for the cost of the room and any additional expenses.

"will never fly with them again"

Trip Verified | Flight cancelled day of even though I had boarding pass. Offered me a flight home three days later! Had to pay Air Canada $650 US one way to get home. Made a claim to WestJet asking they reimburse me difference between the fare I had paid for and the $$650 US. I was actually entitled to $1,000 compensation under the rules, but they gave me only $400 CDN saying flight was only delayed 3 hours. Liars and will never fly with them again.

"Do not fly Westjet for any reason"

Trip Verified | For the second time on this trip, I received an email after getting through security about my flight being delayed 20 minutes. In this instance, the email stated "WestJet flight WS414 from Kelowna (YLW) to Calgary (YYC) is now departing Sunday, August 28 at 17:43 due to flight crew member availability". I thought to myself, no problem, it's only a 20 minute delay, I have another 20 to spare. It's now the next morning, WestJet refused to take any responsibility for the delay they already took responsibility for, refused to put me on the next flight or pay for a hotel room, and has somehow managed to turn a 20 minute delay into a more than 12 hour delay. Some things causing delays I can understand. You schedule the flights. You know where your workers are, and when. You knew this when you made the schedule. To claim "oops, my bad, I can't read an excel spreadsheet" in one breath in an email, and in the next try to blame it on airport facilities is the single most disgusting business practice I've ever encountered. Do not fly Westjet for any reason.

"just standing here befuddled"

Not Verified | The shameless laziness and inefficiency is mind boggling. I'm standing in the bag drop line in Vancouver. Luggage tags in place. All I need to do is hand bags to employee for the carousel. Problem is, 10 windows, zero employees. The last employee announced she is taking an hour and a half break and just left. Passengers just standing here befuddled. This airline needs to go out of business. Avoid at all costs!

"All in all a poor service"

Trip Verified | Delay, delay, delay. If there was another choice of Airline besides Air Canada I would take it. The airline does not respect its customers as it continually makes them wait. Very poor service. The flight crew was standing at the back telling us to sit down while we were trying to figure out which seat was ours. It would be nice if he did his job of assisting people boarding rather than standing barking out orders and doing nothing useful. All in all a poor service.

"the worst travel experience"

Trip Verified | The Worst service, I have been flying for over 20 years and over 20 different airlines and WestJet is the worst customer service experience I have ever had. We missed our flight from Vancouver to Maui on August 11 because all of our hotel and car rental reservations could not be cancelled or modified, so I called WestJet to ask if we could change the date or schedule another flight to Maui and the answer was NO, then I checked again to see if the return ticket was still available and the answer was YES, we could use it. So I bought other one-way tickets to Maui until the morning of August 17 when I tried to check in online for return and it showed that our seats were no longer available. We drove to the airport to find someone, but because of the evening flight there was no one at the gate before time, I called the service on my cell phone, I told the agent we had two kids and you can't just leave us stranded abroad, the agent said he couldn't do anything for us and transferred the call to a manager, but after waiting 1 hour the line was disconnected, I called 2 more times, total waited for 3 hours. The agents always answered the phone and insisted on transferring to a manager, but no manager ever answered the phone. The hotels in Maui were very full that night and we finally found one for $500 per night and we stayed in Maui for 2 days. I have flown different airlines over the past 20 years and most have been very helpful with modifications, and date changes, never has this airline Westjet been so rude, and arrogant and cancelled our return to town tickets without us receiving any email, any phone call notification, The problems was that when we missed our first flight we had confirmed with them that the return trip was not be affected. WestJet is the worst travel experience I have ever had.

"they still have some room to improve"

Trip Verified | Westjet is a growing airline with the fundamentals of being a good airline down but with some work required to reach its full potential. Starting with the positives, the Westjet crew are always kind and helpful. I’m my recent trip, I found that the crew handled my inquiries with ease and professionalism on par with leading airlines. If this review was just about staff and crew than Westjet would easily be the best airline. That said, while Westjet is an overall pleasant airline to fly with, there are some things they could do better with. Firstly, the cabins on Westjet are only average and easily outshone by Delta. Secondly, most of my Westjet flights were late to depart. This did not cause me any problems because the delays were short. Overall, I would recommend flying with Westjet, but that said, they still have some room to improve.

"refused to make changes to my ticket"

Trip Verified | Westjet refused to make changes to my ticket even though I made a mistake and put in the wrong return date. I had to purchase another ticket with a different airline for my return flight home. The customer service agent was unhelpful. So westjet is still going to sell my seat and make money off it but refused to help me out so my money went in vain. I’m going to try by all means never to use the service of Westjet again. They don’t care about their customers loosing their hard earned money.

Trip Verified | Had an issue with a rude agent at westjet customer service. They did nothing to try to accommodate my trip, they rather talk to customers like they are stupid and with no compassion given the misunderstanding coming from they end. Through all the mess the manager at LGA was very understanding and he came with a reasonable solution while still maintaining his professionalism. I applaud him and wish other Westjet staff can take a leaf from Omar's standard and work ethic.
