"The worst company ever"

Trip Verified | Chicago to London. The worst company ever. This was my second flight with them and definitely last one. Never ever again. Lesson learned. My flight had been cancelled and when I took my rebooked a flight for the next day I had been downgraded from premium economy to economy. Very rude staff not willing to explain anything. They gave me $300 voucher for downgrade which you can’t even used online. When I told them I won’t be able to use it they said it was all they can do. Don’t used American Airlines, I would give them 0 as overall score unfortunately the lowest one is 1.

"Everyone looked indifferent"

Not Verified | Buenos Aires to Miami. Not so nice staff, from the airport to the plane. Everyone looked indifferent, like they are just there for the money. Food onboard was okay, not a big of a deal. I have been flying with this airline a few times already. Seats are fine, just like any other airline in the market, same as the entertainment.

"caused me to miss my connection"

Trip Verified | Dallas to Hong Kong. I booked a ticket from DFW to HKG to RMQ for April 22, 2019, The first leg was Business Class and the second was First Class. Flight was 4 hours late leaving Dallas which caused me to miss my connection in Hong Kong. I was scheduled to arrive in Taiwan on the 23rd and had a driver scheduled to pick me up at the airport and my hotel reservations for that night, as well as meetings scheduled for the 24th. When I arrived in Hong Kong I had to spend 16 hours there waiting for the flight out that American scheduled for the next day since their delay caused me to miss my connection. They booked me in economy class. I had to spend about three hours trying to reschedule my driver and hotel reservations in Taiwan and missed my meetings scheduled for the 24th because I did not arrive until 2 PM. I understand flight delays are normal but in this case it caused me an enormous amount of stress rescheduling everything and missing a day of work and meetings, when I spoke to American Airlines they offered me a $200 evoucher which is pocket change and an insult for the amount of time lost here. I would've been happy with someone acting as if my time lost and stress actually meant something instead of the mechanical response you get from the customer service team at American Airlines. I have learned maybe its time to switch back to United Airlines and MileagePlus.

"Worst international ever"

Not Verified | Awful. Do not pay to upgrade to a better seat! I paid $200 to upgrade to better seats. The ‘better’ seats—were both broken. International flight—upgraded seats were worse than original seats. For $200, received less legroom than regular seats. Since our broken seats were locked upright for 9 hours, but the seats in front of us reclined steeply into our laps, knees and feet. Air stewards very sympathetic. Mostly because it was not their problem. AA could not have cared less. No upgraded seats and no refund for upgrading to broken seats courtesy of AA lousy maintenance. Seat in front killed my knees—which one has come to expect. But when one pays for upgraded seats and does not receive them and are not reimbursed for not receiving them, it is fraud. They want me to take a $100 voucher rather than make it right. What is the point of a voucher if one is never going to fly this airline again? Never again. I’ll connect rather than ever deal with this horrible airline ever again. Worst international ever.

"unable to have audio on flight"

Not Verified | Frankfurt to Charlotte. Given that there were 300+/- passengers on my international flight from Frankfurt to Charlotte, NC, there were only 4 of us on the flight who were unable to have audio on the flight, making it impossible to watch the entertainment provided to all the others during a 9 hour flight. I was told that, if we were American Advantage customers, we would be compensated with points. Just found out that the compensation of points for 9 miserable hours was 5000 points which won't come close to getting even a domestic ticket, much less compensating for the 9 hour flight. I have flown this route 4 times in the last 6 months and each time it strikes me how "old" and not well-maintained the aircraft seem to be. I will be looking for another airline for my next trip due to the poor customer service.

"Worst customer service"

Trip Verified | San Diego to Detroit. Worst flight I have ever been on. Worst customer service I have ever dealt with. My original flight was supposed to take me to Chicago, then to Toledo. Those flights got delayed, and there were no other flights to Toledo for the night. They suggested that I take the flight to Chicago and be stranded there for the night, making it very clear they would not pay for a hotel nor meals. I had them switch my flights around so I would go to Phoenix and then Detroit, which would get me an hour further from home but at least I wouldn't need to find somewhere to stay. Again, flights kept getting delayed. I was concerned I would miss my connecting flight from Phoenix to Detroit so I asked the lady working at the gate counter about it and she spoke to me for condescending. She wasn't good at hiding her facial expressions. She talked to me like I was a child and was wasting her time. There was nobody behind me waiting to be helped, so it is not like she was even busy. She clearly does not need to be working in customer service. After I got to Phoenix, they boarded us on time to leave for Detroit, then had us sitting on the plane delayed for almost two hours with very few updates. Finally we figured out that something needed fixed on one of the planes wings, and it took this long to get someone there to fix it. Why board us all on a plane that may not even be operational in the first place, not sure. On top of all that, they gave us an old plane that we were unable to charge any of our devices on, AND I had a seat that did not move at all. So I got to be uncomfortable the entire flight with no form of entertainment. At one point I got up to get my sweatpants out of my bag because it was very cold, and the flight attendant just glared at me as if I was doing something wrong. I will never be booking with AA again. What was supposed to be a 6 hour trip turned into almost 20. Very poor customer service. I would give it a 0 star rating if I could.

""right to scheduled changes"

Not Verified | Wow - what a way to tell your customer that you don't care about them. 3 flights within 12 months to the same destination to see our daughter at university in St. Kitts at Ross University and American tells me that they have the "right" to "scheduled changes" which seem to happen within 72 hours of the flight. So we pay top rate for the flight months in advance and then settle for a substitute flight with more stop overs for the same price last minute because we do not have any other choice. Well my daughter will be at Ross for another couple of years and when I cannot get a direct flight with Air Canada, I will book the British Airways flight from Buffalo (which is the solution I have to turn to when American Airlines AA cancels/alters/reschedules my flight last minute... again - remember happened 3 times). Buffalo flight has more connections but less issues than the AA American Airlines reschedule , cancelation , etc. BTW, after 2 hours on the phone with AA customers service I was told AA has 'the right" to treat me the way they do and they do not have to do anything to make it up to me. "So sad too bad". When I asked them what regulating body I could complain to m they said there is non and I could email the AA customer relations. Here is the problem with an unregulated industry. Choice is yours - good luck .

"flight attendants were late"

Trip Verified | Los Angeles to Bradley via Philadelphia. My flight has been delayed because the flight attendants were late leaving the hotel. I wish that was a joke, but just announced on the P.A. Get it together! This is a job, not social hour. The hotels at LAX are right here! I commute for a living and am early every day because of planning. Now I got a call that my connection may be in jeopardy? Come on American! And they no longer have nonstop Bradley to Los Angeles. Very sad. That's why I started flying this airline

"airline is absolutely awful"

Not Verified | Philadelphia to Miami. This airline is absolutely awful. Our flight was cancelled last minute and American did absolutely nothing to accommodate us. Do not fly. Our preplanned 3 month trip was ruined. We paid for an extra day at our resort that we never got to use. Thanks American for a great start to our honeymoon.

"customer service is poor"

Trip Verified | Miami to Charleston. This has been the worst experience ever. From the reservation manager, to the slow TSA check-in process, to the boarding agents! The customer service is poor! And thanks to American Airlines for placing me on numerous stand by flights, I had to to stay another unwanted night. The employees were rude and unhelpful. Never again will I fly with American Airlines! Terrible! Terrible! Oh, if you want to catch your flight, arrive 4 hours prior to your boarding time. The staff in the Miami International Airport are terrible.
