"situation was handled poorly"

Not Verified | I have never been treated so rude in my life. My family flew into Lake Charles Louisiana for a family reunion on August 9th and we were scheduled to fly out of Lake Charles on August 11th at 4:25pm. We were lost and ended up getting to the airport at 4pm. There was no line and no wait being that it was a small airport. There was no attendant at the check in station. I immediately ran to security to get help as they had not started boarding our flight. The security guard came and informed us to go back downstairs to check in and that they would send someone to help us. They deliberately waited until the plane left to come help us. The attendant was very rude and told us we had cheap tickets and we would not be able to rebook them. She showed no sympathy or compassion. The attendants at United were more helpful than she was. I called the customer service line and the supervisor told us that we could not get a refund. My family including my 85 year old grandmother in a wheelchair now have to rent a car and drive all the way to Atlanta because there was no more available flights leaving Lake Charles for 2 days. I feel that the situation was handled poorly and that we were treated unfair.

"got a very insensitive attitude"

Trip Verified | My flight was cancelled and I was only notified at the airport at self check in. I was rebooked for the following day and got a very insensitive attitude from the American Airlines customer service. Not an airline I will recommend based on customer care.

"Not good business at all"

Trip Verified | Athens to St. Louis via Chicago. American canceled our flight with about 6 hours' notice. The representative put us on another flight, but she failed to secure our tickets and within about 30 minutes, that flight was oversold. Another American rep put us on a different flight through Tel Aviv, JFK, Charlotte and finally St. Louis. However, she also failed to tell us there was absolutely no way the connection at Tel Aviv to JFK would be possible with the timeframe. We ended up (thankfully with about 11 others from the same flight) stuck with Israeli airport security overnight - who were not at all interested in providing any assistance. We finally were able to get on the phone again with yet another American representative who got us on another flight (all economy - when we paid extra for premium economy) to the states. We ended up spending 48 hours in airports - all to come back and find American isn't the least bit interested in providing any sort of customer service to try to make things better. Not good business at all.

"Truly the worst airline"

Trip Verified | Dallas to Miami. Truly the worst airline. They don’t care if you have to change a flight (just buy a new ticket duh). There alre always delays. It’s not a friendly atmosphere and the flight attendants always look miserable. I always dread flying with them. I fly SW whenever possible. AA, time to consider your customers. Getting too big for your britches.

"It was the worst experience"

Trip Verified | Phoenix to Sacramento. On our original flight to our destination our plane was switched gates six times and it was delayed 4+ times and resulted in us missing our connection flight and our cruise. On our flight home our gate was switched another 3 times to completely different terminals across the airport and delayed two hours. It was the worst experience we ever had, will definitely NOT be flying American Airlines again.

"a really nice hotel too"

Trip Verified | Honolulu to Los Angeles. We had a flight canceled and they rebooked us on the next mornings flight and gave us a hotel, meal vouchers, and taxi cab to and from the airport. It was a really nice hotel too.

"disheartening and disgusted"

Not Verified | I've never been a big fan of AA, but after my most recent experience I'm absolutely disheartening and disgusted. For those that don't know, the company policy is to shut off the boarding system 30 minutes before take-off. I usually fly out of a small town airport, so it doesn't take me long to get through TSA and boarded... So I got a lovely surprise when I couldn't get on the plane. Apparently, I was just cut off by a couple of minutes. And instead of helping me reschedule my flight (even to another day), the lady had to put me on standby (another company policy for 'missed flights') - so I wasn't even ever guaranteed any flight and had to sit in the airport for hours waiting, continually going back to the desk to get a new standby ticket for a new flight. This policy is not okay. Plane tickets are expensive and people's time is priceless. In addition, when all the hullababo was over, I still could have gotten through TSA in time to get on the flight. That was the most heartbreaking part. In addition, the woman next to me was also late, and the clerk at the desk was absolutely rude to her. He spoke in a very condescending tone of voice. He said things like: "you missed the same flight yesterday," "I guess it just wasn't meant to be then," and "you need to understand that you should be at the airport ready for your flight two hours before!" (Note: usually I agree with this advise-- but not in a rude way like the clerk said it or for a very small airport like Bangor!). I get it, it's not an easy job and people are annoying-- I have worked in service, too! But if you can't handle people without being mean, find another job! It was super uncomfortable being next to her and having to listen to his rudeness - imagine how she feels! Rude service, bad policy, and a generally uncomfortable flying experience. It's with the extra money for Delta. Treat yourself and avoid the hastle!

Trip Verified | Harrisburg to Albuquerque. Extremely rude from check in to flight attendant. I just want to go back to Southwest. I have to take 2 more planes on this airline before I get home and I’m dreading it. A nice word or a smile goes a long way. These people don’t care.

"This is the worst experience"

Trip Verified | This is the worst experience I have ever had flying, hands down the worst. I arrived at LaGuardia in NY at 7 am and had a connector flight to Richmond, VA. 30 minutes before boarding they came over intercom and said that the flight was completely cancelled, not delayed but completely cancelled. The reason, because the had to much air traffic i.e. they overbooked. They put me on next flight, at 9 pm. I asked for other options and they give no one options. They were very unprofessional throughout the whole process, laughing and joking with each other. When asked for a meal ticket they were reluctant to even give me that even though it was there fault that they were over booked. This happens apparently 4 times a week on this connection alone and yet American continues to screw people over with no remorse. One of the customers had to get his 10 year old son to doctor in Richmond and they still didnt make accommodations for him. Now it is 9 pm and we were supposed to board at 8:45 pm but low and behold it is late and wont be here until 9:36 pm. This airline is pure trash and I dont recommend. I hope the upper management reads this and strongly looks at how they choose to operate their business and not continue to screw people over. I will never ever never ever use their airline and I hope that jobs are lost over this post.

"not a good customer service"

Trip Verified | This was the worst airline ever. They change my times eight times at least before we got to get on our flight in one day. When we finally got on our flight the plane was sitting there for at least 30 minutes. They said it was due to weather but the weather was up north and the airport was still clear. I had a connecting flight in Chicago and the Chicago plane was with American Airlines again and they were an hour late so my new time to fly was 9:02 and we arrived at 9:20 and I saw my flight still at the gate but they wouldn’t let me in because they close the gate. They told me that I can reschedule to tomorrow since it was too late at night. They wouldn’t pay for a hotel or they wouldn’t even pay for a little bit for food. They didn’t even apologize or anything they just told me that it wasn’t their fault. It was not a good customer service and i was really disappointed.
