"hurtful and condescending"

Not Verified | Portland to Pensacola via Washington. Worst treatment ever. I expressed to the gate attendant that I will miss my connection since the first flight was late. Totally dismissed me. We arrived late then parked on the runway waiting on a gate. Spent forever in line for customer service. Then they tried not to put me up in a hotel for the night. They rescheduled me for the following morning. No dinner, no breakfast. Next day the desk attendant was rude to me when I asked to get a seat closer to the do so as not to have to walk for long. Treated me as a leper because I was flying economy! Very hurtful and condescending. Last time I fly with AA. I’ll spend some more I fly with a decent airline

"fly anything but American"

Every flight delayed due to incompetence and not a single employee that can answer any question. I will never waste money on such a trash airline again. How pathetic that Spirit is now better than American. Save your time save your money fly anything but American 0/10

"should have gotten travel insurance"

Trip Verified | Seattle to Cancun via Charlotte. American Airlines has the worst customer service. We were flying on vacation from Seattle to Cancun - 1 stop in Charolette, North Carolina. I chose this flight because it was a red eye flight beginning at 10:30 PM to allow us almost a full extra day of vacation in Cancun. The A321 airplane they used on our first flight was horrible. No in-flight entertainment system, no charging area in your seats and the seat space was cramped. On our second flight on our way to Cancun we were on the tarmac when the pilot notified us of an issue with the plane where we would have to return to the gate for a 20 mins fix. Once at the gate, we were told the paperwork would delay us longer and they would find another aircraft. After another 2 hour wait the flight was just cancelled. No notification at all. 280 people began scrambling to find another flight. Needless to say they sent us to customer service where they had major computer issues and just rebooked us all on another flight the next day. This was after 2 hours of standing in line. They put us up in a hotel by the airport, with no bags, and a $12.00 per person food voucher only for use at the airport with no restaurants but a small Starbucks for food. They made a meager attempt to give us 15,000 miles for our inconvenience but that doesn't cover our lost day of vacation, hotel fees for a day in Cancun, and additional food and Uber expenses in Charlotte. In attempts to get additional reimbursement for our hotel fees etc, they declined and said we should have gotten travel insurance. RI am not going to accept their 15,000 miles because I never plan to fly this airline ever again.

"want to express my gratitude"

Trip Verified | Washington DCA to Chicago. I just want to express my gratitude to 2 American Airlines customer service employees at Reagan National airport in DC. I am dealing with a vision disability and the both went the extra mile to help me change my flight and get me the proper info and they did it with a great attitude. Thank you, your patience and kindness went above and beyond!

"Poor and horrible service"

Trip Verified | LaGuardia to Washington via Buffalo. Poor and horrible service, too many delays in one trip.It should be a one hour fly until Washington and one more hour to get to Buffalo. I took my flight at 4pm and finally got home at 2am, small seats, no food not even water. Horrible and very uncomfortable.

"terrible experience flying"

Trip Verified | I had a terrible experience flying from Chicago O'hare to San Antonio. My flight was delayed 5 times due to snow but workers were not able to help you and they were disrespectful. I totally do not recommend you flying in this airline. Service is awful, we were waiting in the plane for 2 hours to depart and we just get a glass of water or soda in the whole flight.

"airline losing my bags"

Trip Verified | Corpus Christi to San Jose. I travel quite frequently whether it be business or leisure and usually am very happy with my flight. This instance however is unacceptable. I am a US Soldier and had to fly out of Corpus to arrive at my final destination San Jose to having no bags. My flight did not change. I had all my uniforms to go to my next training site, and now have been held up due to the airline losing my bags, and telling me I am unable to receive them till after 11am today. This is totally unacceptable. I would understand if flights had been delayed or changed, but neither of this happened. I am a frequent flyer and used 75,000 points to get this flight, and now I will be attending a training late due to your irresponsible staff.

"inefficient and disrespectful"

Trip Verified | Chicago to Boston. American Airlines is the most inefficient and disrespectful airline out there. They are late, and today they got to my limit by canceling my first flight at 3pm for no reason, they also expected me to get on a different flight to Boston vía Florida. After I discussed for 20 minutes with a very disrespectful customer service assistant she proceeded to give me a ticket to a flight straight to Boston 3 hours later (keep in mind she said several times it wasn’t possible to fly straight to Boston today, disregarding the fact that I paid 700$ in order to fly direct). The 6pm flight got cancelled after many hours of delay and now they won’t give me my carry on bag which they made me check back, and the cherry on top is that they expect me to leave tomorrow to Philadelphia and on Tuesday to Boston. Of course I am expected to pay for the hotel because that is the American Airlines way! Do yourself a favor and stay away from this so called airline.

"Bad hospitality"

Trip Verified | Charlotte to Philadelphia. The crew were late to get on board, we left over a hour late from CLT. Then once we arrived into Philadelphia there were no ground crew waiting. Sitting on the ground as we wait “for the ground manager to assemble a crew”, so the pilot said, “American doesn’t usually hold these standards". I took this same flight last Friday CLT - PHL and no ground crew where ready too. It’s a huge same American. You need to get yourself sorted. Bad hospitality half the time, late the rest.

"staff barely attended to us"

Not Verified | Washington to Miami via Washington. The flight to Miami was pretty good. Staff were courteous and attentive. The flight back was extremely disappointing. The seats were smaller and on an older model plane, and the staff barely attended to us. The nuts were lukewarm, and our trays were not emptied until the flight was almost over. The staff was more interested in talking to each other and playing on their phones than assisting anyone on the flight. Needless to say, we will not be flying American Airlines ever again. The service and level of comfort is vastly different than what we experienced on United Airlines and we will not be choosing American Airlines for future travel.
