"urge you to consider other travel options"

(Canada)

Trip Verified | Westjet has declined to provide any compensation to my son and I on our recent to Victoria. On Feb 19th we left Calgary and landed in Vancouver for a connecting flight to Victoria. We left Calgary at 730pm MST for a connecting flight from Vancouver to Victoria at 850pm PST. Well, at 304am PST we were informed by several WESTJET employees that we would be provided compensation for the 5 flight delays that we went through. We were provided food vouchers, taxi vouchers and hotel vouchers. Well, the food vouchers were for restaurants that were not open at 3am and the Taxi vouchers were to be used to take us to a hotel for vouchers we were given but had no rooms available. Even though there was an Air Canada flight that was scheduled at 810am to Victoria (and yes, the government APPR rules indicate that Westjet is required to get us on the next available flight to Victoria regardless of whether or not it is one of their planes or a competitors). We decided the only way we would make our 1pm golf tee time without having to pay 2 cancellation penalties was to take the 7am ferry to Victoria. So, out comes the credit card to pay for the cab ride to the ferry terminal (taxi voucher was used going to the first hotel that had no vacancy) Problem is, the Ferry terminal doesn't open until 6am. After hanging out in the ferry terminal parking lot in a bus shelter to shield us from the Vancouver mist, we discovered a bathroom area with a vending machine in it was thankfully open to provide us with some warmth and vending machine food options. Finally, 6am arrives and we were able to purchase Ferry Passes with our own money and finally make it over to Victoria. Another taxi fair to the airport to pick up our car that was waiting for us, plus an extra day of airport parking for the car (again on my dime) and finally we have made it just in time to make our golf tee time. Long story short, I just received an email from WESTJET saying that we are not owed any compensation for the 15 hour delay to Victoria that WESTJET never even delivered us to. I have never used social media for the sole purpose of highlighting a company's shortcomings before, as i had all the confidence in the world that WESTJET #Westjet would do the right thing. Not only am I furious with their lack of empathy and responsibility, but i am extremely disappointed in how my son and i were treated and cast aside to fend for ourselves in a city we are not familiar with and not to take any, if not all responsibility for our well being and safety. If there is one good lesson to learn from this experience for my son and i it is this.....You are only one phone call or one unfortunate incident away from feeling homeless, lost or cast aside. Do not take the things we have for granted and have some empathy for that person you side step in the streets who may be looking for a little assistance on a very cold or very hot day. It could be a WESTJET passenger lost in a strange city. Westjet, you need to do better. To all of my friends, i urge you to consider other travel options.

"become so bad at customer service"

(Canada)

Trip Verified | March 5, 2022. Flight to Toronto was delayed because of staffing issues. Because of that our baggage did not make our plane from Toronto to Dominican. Received baggage 30+ hours later which essentially took two days off of our vacation. Bought some clothes, etc to get by. March 17, 2022. Submitted claim on Westjet site, but when you hit submit the site simply says thank you for submitting. No other information or email as to what to expect so you just wait. Sent a email a week later requesting some sort of status on my claim, however I have heard nothing from them to date. Contact by phone is not allowed for anything that doesn't pertain to an upcoming flight. Expense reimbursement status or follow up is not on any menu. I don't have Facebook so I can't chat with a live agent. It is just brutal that Westjet has become so bad at customer service. I might regret this review later, but my frustration is currently boiling over so I needed to tell somebody.

"when you land that you need to be aware"

(Canada)

Trip Verified | The flight was great, it is when you land that you need to be aware. Despite checking to see if there would be shuttle at the airport which is significantly isolated 15 km from the city, the WestJet employees took the only available shuttle to my hotel and would not allow anyone else to travel with them leaving many of us stranded waiting for the very few taxis available. I was stranded for over an hour and didn’t make it to my hotel till 12:20 am. In calling WestJet they simply stated that is not their problem and to take it up with the shuttle company. Their responsibilities end when they arrive at the airport. Maybe this is true, however when you take the largest and only available mode of transportation for a very few, I think it doesn’t represent a concern for your customers. If you are heading to Prince George at night, realize this is likely to be your reality as it was for many of us on that flight.

"never book a car through the Westjet again"

(Canada)

Not Verified | Renting a car on Westjet Site. I reserved a car on the Westjet site for the two week holiday in the UK. My RBC Westjet credit card was declined by the RBC fraud department because Car Hire Trawler, the company trying to take the money, is located in Ireland. I'm located in Canada. I did a search for Car Hire Trawler and after looking at the Better Business Reviews, decided I wanted nothing to do with them. The reviews are a litany of horror stories. Additionally, the car company I always use, Enterprise, does not require up front payment; payment is made at the car rental desk when you pick up the car. Car Hire Trawler tried to take the full amount of the rental immediately. I called Westjet. Initially, they had no knowledge of who Cark Hire Trawler was. I told them I wanted to cancel the reservation. They told me I had to contact the car hire company. I told Westjet that Enterprise, who was aware of the reservation, had asked that I contact the company that made the reservation. Westjet insisted I contact Car Hire Trawler. I was getting frustrated and very annoyed. I told the Westjet agent I made the reservation on their site, I had never had nor did I wish to have any dealings with a company called Car Hire Trawler and I insisted that Westjet cancel the reservation. Ultimately, by using the car reservation number, Westjet was able to show me how to cancel the reservation on their website. I note that I have been a loyal Westjet customer for some time and, notwithstanding this car rental fiasco, my experiences have all been positive. I used the RBC Westjet card to book the car directly with Enterprise. I will never book a car through the Westjet website again.

"no regard for their customers"

(Canada)

Trip Verified | We flew round trip with WestJet at the end of February for a family trip (4 people) to Curacao from Montreal. This round trip flight included a stopover in Toronto. The outward journey took place without incident although no food was available on board even though the flight lasted more than 5 hours. Also the service on board was very ordinary to be polite. The complication arose on our return which still offered no food by the way. During our stopover, we obviously had to clear customs in Toronto, collect our luggage and return to the check-in counter. The duration of the stopover was 1 hour and 20 minutes. We showed up at the counter 40 minutes later, which isn't very long considering the steps we had just taken. We therefore had 40 minutes left to return to the boarding gate. We were denied access for security reasons (supposedly) to avoid rushing to catch our next flight. A corporate policy apparently. We were graciously offered (almost a favor) to take the next flight which was more than 8 hours later (10.40pm) which was unacceptable with our two children aged 9 and 7 (who were already crying) . We thought arriving at this time was just not responsible with school the next day. We were offered flat apologies without any viable solution, empathy or consideration for our situation. I find it hard to understand how this trip could have been sold to us (at a high price by the way) if their logistics did not allow it. I realize that it was practically impossible to make the stopover in time while respecting their policies, their internal directives, their realities etc. I simply note that WestJet have no regard for their customers. So we rented a vehicle (+ than $500) to make the 5-hour drive to Montreal and lost the usufruct of these unused tickets. The worst part of it all is that I read a few reviews on this page and there are even more appalling cases.

"Absolute and total disregard for passengers"

(Canada)

Trip Verified | Tried to fly to Las Vegas. Left Victoria at 6am and arrived in Calgary at 7.30am for our transfer. On arrival we were told that our connector was going to be 8pm instead of 11.30am. they gave us some food vouchers and sent us on our way. 2pm rolls around and we try to book in early for our next flight only to have them tell us that we got bumped again. Our new departure time was going to be 8am the following day. This was unacceptable as we were going for a very short trip to Vegas and the excessive delay would make the trip pointless. Tried to get a refund and be sent home (a requirement of Canadian carriers) and the only option that the completely inept staff had was to fly us back home using the credit from the rest of the trip. They think an involuntary day trip to Calgary is the same as the Vegas trip we originally bought. Absolute and total disregard for passengers.

"There were no meals available"

(Canada)

Trip Verified | We purchased Premium Economy tickets for this flight which should have included a hot meal and full bar service on the Kona - Calgary flight. There were no meals available because they left Calgary the day before with barely sufficient supplies for the Calgary Kona flight- according to flight attendants who were extremely apologetic and clearly embarrassed by their airline. Westjet does not resupply in Kona but supposedly stocks supplies for both legs before they leave Calgary. Staff and presumably the airline was aware of problem the day before our departure but no effort to cater in Kona or directly notify passengers, apparently some announcements in boarding lounge-not audible outside of boarding lounge. Bar service limited. Not what you pay for.

"told us our boarding passes had been cancelled"

(Canada)

Trip Verified | Initial flight delay of about 30 minutes caused by ‘medical’ according to info supplied by Westjet app. Further delay of over 30 minutes on tarmac as there was no one to load luggage according to Pilot announcement. Arrived on tarmac in Calgary at 17:52 instead of scheduled 17:13 arrival. Flight to Grande Prairie was at 18:45. Arrived at gate at 18:27 and boarding was in process. Got to checkin and gate attendant told us our boarding passes had been cancelled because we could not make the flight! There were still more people in line who were allowed to board. Sent to customer service and told we would be rebooked for the next morning. When we inquired about hotel accommodation and meal compensation we were told that there would be none because delay wasn’t Westjet fault because it was medical. A blatant lie given that 30 minutes or more of the eventual 39 minute late arrival was because of the tarmac delay over baggage handling. Also the Westjet late evening flight on December 9 was cancelled- wonder if people from that flight were rebooked into our seats? We are on the hook for hotel and meal costs, had to cancel medical appointments on the 10th, etc.

"What incredibly poor service"

(Canada)

Not Verified | What incredibly poor service. No luggage at destination and not the only customer with this issue, many others over several weeks had the same problem. Purchase of items needed, forward the receipt, no response to this and practically no way to contact a customer service. Damaged luggage again sent information on this, no response returned. Received a call and email the an upgrade was being done at the resort, to arrive there to be sent back to original booked resort. To, further add stress to this on arrival to have 3 bags missing and several other the Cuban WestJet representative was not allowed in the terminal. Delayed leaving to the resort by 2 hours, needless to say the bus load of other tourists voiced some nasty comments. So WestJet if an associate should read this, get your departments working, respond to the customer.

"isn't interested in helping in any way"

(Canada)

Trip Verified | I spent every cent I had to my name to pay for 2 flights for myself to go from Calgary YYC to MZT Mazatlan. Now WestJet isn't willing to get me on a flight to Mazatlan. I've paid over $1,000 to fly to Mazatlan and have done everything they asked of me. Yet I'm still stuck in the airport and WestJet isn't interested in helping in any way.
