"will you honour your companion vouchers"

Not Verified | This was the flight that never happened-was cancelled due to a blizzard warning. We were able to book the companion voucher then the airline cancelled the flights. When rebooking we had no option to use the companion vouchers (no button present) and so will likely lose them. In calling (1.5 hrs at least-2 calls), we got the same spiel (like it was a script). 3 different agents told us 3 different things. The last agent hung up on us when we asked for a supervisor. We were polite but never got any guidance other than "cancel and rebook" your flights (or read the policy)-shame on you Westjet. So Westjet - will you honour your companion vouchers without a grand run around? Planning to book our Europe flights through Air Canada now.

"What a way to end a good trip"

Trip Verified | We purchased direct flights from Kelowna to Cabo and back. About three weeks before our trip we were informed that return was now one stop over in Vancouver. We live about 70 minutes from Kelowna airport. Now instead of arriving home about 7.00 pm it would be closer to midnight. We are in our mid seventies, So we arrived in Vancouver a little late, we asked the Stewardess where to catch the connecting flight. She said just go straight ahead and read signs. We only hand a little over an hour until we took off. We walked from one end of the airport to the other, at least a mile. Good thing the adjoining plane was 45 minutes late. No concern or even a warning of how long the walk was. What a joke. We got home at 1.20 in the morning. What a way to end a good trip. We don't plan on using WestJet Vacations anymore unless there's no other choice. Their all-inclusive vacations to Mexico are very poorly explained. Good luck talking to anybody. Seems there idea of all inclusive is way different then when you get there. Don't think it's all inclusive because in our experiences it's not! You will have the lowest package available. Do your research or be disappointed. Several of our friends only use Air Canada and refuse to use WestJet. We were sad to see this company fall apart as we have travelled for many year's on WestJet.

"their quality has diminished terribly"

Trip Verified | What a horrible company. Westjet used to be the best airline in Canada but their quality has diminished terribly. In Christmas I flew out to Vancouver island to spend the holidays with family. Flying out wasn’t terrible other than 2 hour delays on both my flights to get out there. I didn’t really care. Coming home was a different story. My first flight got cancelled due to “weather” which wasn’t true, they were short staffed, an agent admitted this to me. They rescheduled me to a flight 3 days later. When I went online I found that there were available flights then next day. I spent 5 hours on hold to get that changed. The flight I booked the next day got delayed, but in their infinite wisdom they chose to kick me off the flight because that meant I wouldn’t catch my connection. They didn’t ask me cause if they did they’d know that I still would have taken that flight because then I could have rented a car and drove the rest of the way, instead they rebooked me another 3 days later even though there were available flights the next day again. This time rather than sit on hold for half a day I cancelled my flight and rebooked on the next flight. Again huge delays on my flights but finally got home. Westjet owes compensation, they can lie and say weather to get out of that, but they can’t kick me off a flight without asking. Yet they refuse to pay. They send one response a month so it’s next to impossible to get anywhere with them.

"I will never fly with WestJet again"

Not Verified | I feel lied to and cheated by what is supposed to be one of the best companies to fly with. Our flight was delayed at the airport on landing in Calgary, and everyone missed their connection flights. The airline offered taxi, meal, and hotel vouchers to all passengers on board, however they ended up running out. Those of us who did not get any vouchers were told by WestJet employees that our expenses would be reimbursed if we sent in our receipts, which I did right away, only to be told months later that the delay was out of WestJets control and they won’t be reimbursing me. After explaining the situation, and sending my receipts in again, I received the same copy and paste auto message from a service rep. This is unbelievable! And no one can explain to me why some people got to have these expenses covered and not others. I will never fly with WestJet again if I can avoid it, knowing that if something like this happens, like delays and such, they don’t care at all. I cannot believe that this is how a company’s customer service operates.

"I hope to avoid WestJet at all costs"

Trip Verified | Both the app and website (tried on multiple browsers) wouldn’t work to track my flight, pick my seats or manage anything “services currently unavailable” is the message I got for over 2 weeks. I prefer an aisle seat because I have knee and back problems and need to stretch a bit. I Contacted customer service and they did not help with anything, they just recommended I leave feedback in the app. Of course, they put me in a middle seat. I was in pain the entire flight. I wasn’t able to check what my bag fees or weight limits were in advance to prepare. Didn’t know if the plane had power outlets so wasted over an hour sitting in the floor charging my phone in the airport instead of having dinner. I highly recommend you consider flying with a different airline. I flew with 3 other airlines the past few weeks and they were so much better. I travel a lot and I hope to avoid WestJet at all costs in the future. A one star review is more than I want to give.

"wish we never flew with WestJet"

Not Verified | It was a terrible experience. The flight got delayed for about 2 hours at JFK without any reasons being explained to the passengers. Once it landed at YYC, we were held on the airplane for another 45 minutes before leg go, and again without any explanation from the pilot. We then waited for the luggage for another 1 hour before the carousel started running. We almost missed the rental car as it has passed 12:15AM already. It's so frustrating! I wish we never flew with WestJet, and we certainly wouldn't do it again!

"my worst experience with an airline"

Trip Verified | I'm going on my second week being in Belize without my luggage and no communication from Westjet. As an avid traveller, this has been my worst experience with an airline. They lost my luggage on April 2nd. Found it a week later, said it would arrive on the 9th and zero communication after that. The lost baggage customer service line say that they can only see the same status online as I can and that it depends on the agents in Belize to update the info. One agent said I would have to fly back to Belize City to pick it up and the next agent said it would come to Placencia but that they dont know when and I should just check at the airport because it may be there but may not. There is no accountability and I have not even received confirmation that it arrived in Belize City. This has already cost me hundreds of dollars. Im stuck in a country for a month with a backpack on my back, washing the same pair of underwear every single day. Its disgusting how much this airline apparently despises good customer service and taking care of their customers. I will boycott Westjet as much as I can now because they have proven their incompetency and lack of care. I used to be a fan but Air Canada can have all my money now.

"Time to fly with someone else"

Not Verified | Once again Westjets customers service has been horrible. When we got to Houston to check in the desk was completely disorganized and late. When we arrived in Calgary we waited for over an hour for our bags. When we checked in with the WestJet counter they were completely unhelpful, unsympathetic and said it was perfectly normal to wait this long. WestJet has went so down hill lately it’s sad. Time to fly with someone else as every time we fly with them it’s a let down.

"I have never seen such horrendous customer service"

Not Verified | I think that there needs to be some re-education for this airline. Specifically in customer service, organization and communication skills. I used WestJet on both March 27th and April 2nd, and I have never been so disgusted by the lack of communication and plain rudeness towards passengers. Not to mention the delays that ranged from lack of staffing, to holding back of luggage for hours, to computer malfunctions. I have flown with, and have experienced some issues with several airlines in the past, but I have never seen such horrendous customer service and lack of organization in real-time. On the way there, computer issues which led to major stress and frustration including some very rude and aggressive ‘customer service’ employees left me angry, but willing to write it off as frustrated employees dealing with a crisis. Now, after seeing other reviews, and after our return flight experience, I suspect that WestJet is always dealing with major issues, and staff has no idea how to handle them. That is not on them, by the way, that is on a clear lack of effective leadership within the company, but most customers do not care to investigate how deeply this lack of leadership runs. Based on what I saw and heard last night at Pearson, I would suspect that your WestJet lost a lot of customers - there were hundreds there last night to experience what I did. Good luck regaining their trust. I know that I will not be choosing WestJet in the future, I will not pay that much of my hard-earned money, to be treated the way that we were. I try to support Canadian companies, but will not to do so to my own detriment obviously.

"urge you to consider other travel options"

Trip Verified | Westjet has declined to provide any compensation to my son and I on our recent to Victoria. On Feb 19th we left Calgary and landed in Vancouver for a connecting flight to Victoria. We left Calgary at 730pm MST for a connecting flight from Vancouver to Victoria at 850pm PST. Well, at 304am PST we were informed by several WESTJET employees that we would be provided compensation for the 5 flight delays that we went through. We were provided food vouchers, taxi vouchers and hotel vouchers. Well, the food vouchers were for restaurants that were not open at 3am and the Taxi vouchers were to be used to take us to a hotel for vouchers we were given but had no rooms available. Even though there was an Air Canada flight that was scheduled at 810am to Victoria (and yes, the government APPR rules indicate that Westjet is required to get us on the next available flight to Victoria regardless of whether or not it is one of their planes or a competitors). We decided the only way we would make our 1pm golf tee time without having to pay 2 cancellation penalties was to take the 7am ferry to Victoria. So, out comes the credit card to pay for the cab ride to the ferry terminal (taxi voucher was used going to the first hotel that had no vacancy) Problem is, the Ferry terminal doesn't open until 6am. After hanging out in the ferry terminal parking lot in a bus shelter to shield us from the Vancouver mist, we discovered a bathroom area with a vending machine in it was thankfully open to provide us with some warmth and vending machine food options. Finally, 6am arrives and we were able to purchase Ferry Passes with our own money and finally make it over to Victoria. Another taxi fair to the airport to pick up our car that was waiting for us, plus an extra day of airport parking for the car (again on my dime) and finally we have made it just in time to make our golf tee time. Long story short, I just received an email from WESTJET saying that we are not owed any compensation for the 15 hour delay to Victoria that WESTJET never even delivered us to. I have never used social media for the sole purpose of highlighting a company's shortcomings before, as i had all the confidence in the world that WESTJET #Westjet would do the right thing. Not only am I furious with their lack of empathy and responsibility, but i am extremely disappointed in how my son and i were treated and cast aside to fend for ourselves in a city we are not familiar with and not to take any, if not all responsibility for our well being and safety. If there is one good lesson to learn from this experience for my son and i it is this.....You are only one phone call or one unfortunate incident away from feeling homeless, lost or cast aside. Do not take the things we have for granted and have some empathy for that person you side step in the streets who may be looking for a little assistance on a very cold or very hot day. It could be a WESTJET passenger lost in a strange city. Westjet, you need to do better. To all of my friends, i urge you to consider other travel options.
