"outright lying and hiding from customers"

Trip Verified | Never had a worse experience with an airline, outright lying and hiding from their customers. Their management has gone into hiding and their customer service is unreachable. We were kicked off the phone after waiting 4 hours in the English line, and 5 and a half hours in the French line (we speak both within the family so we tried both). WestJet has not met the standard of care which they're required to show their passengers. As a regular passenger of Flair, I can tell you, even Flair has better customer service and reliability than WestJet. Let alone Air Canada, they're miles better. WestJet has abandoned Canada so it's time for Canadians to abandon them. Expensive tickets and horrible service don't deserve your hard earned money. Better off walking.

"entire experience was terrible"

Trip Verified | My entire experience with Westjet was terrible but the worst part was the so called manager at London airport and the employee who were openly abusive, aggressive, hostile and argumentative. At one point when I asked to talk with the manager I was told that they would call security to have me "frog marched" out of the airport. The manager shoved a sheet in my face telling me to fill in the online form and that someone would contact me within 2 days. She told me she could not and would not rebook my flight and that all flights were full until past Christmas meaning I would not be able to see my family for Christmas. These two and another started screaming at me when I asked why I could not be put on standby and refused to even let me get on my first flight to Toronto and shut down the service desk while I was still waiting on an update for departure. I was accused of being nasty. All employees should be trained mandatory in de-escalation strategies or even basic customer service. Do not ever fly westjet out of London airport.

"groundcrew was really rude"

Trip Verified | Our family booked a flight with Delta but apparently was a codeshare with Westjet. The male groundcrew who was checking our boarding pass during boarding was extremely rude! We were traveling with children, and this groundcrew was rushing us and was really rude. Westjet must check their crew and train them to be more courteous and respectful to their passengers! Do yourself a favor and avoid this airline!

"from the best to the absolute worst"

Trip Verified | This airline has gone from the best airline in Canada to the absolute worst in a relatively short period of time. Good Job! On the latest flight I was given a Boarding Pass for the wrong seat (a middle seat) when I had bought and paid for an aisle seat 5 months earlier and confirmed both by email and on my electronic ticket. Their answer at the airport was "Oh sorry but someone else is sitting there now and there are no aisle seats left and there's nothing we can do about it". So I try to call Customer Service both while I was waiting for the flight and a day or say later. Both times I get a voice message that basically says "sorry" but we're just too busy to take calls right now, try again later. You can't even go on hold for several hours which was their format in the past - unbelievable! Also just so everyone knows, if you decide to "bid" for an upgrade to their Premium (First Class) seats be aware that if your bid is accepted and you're traveling with a spouse or another person you will probably not get seats together which completely negates the biggest advantage of getting their First Class seats because you lose the middle seat area that you could share and you're still sitting beside a stranger. This could be fixed so easily during the bidding process but I guess they just are bright enough to figure it out. This airline is the worst!

"now stranded 7 hours from home"

Trip Verified | Would not recommend to my worst enemies! Had a business trip to BC for a month and, on the flight there, they lost my checked luggage. On my return trip they also delayed both my flights by 1 hour and failed to inform me that they are removing me from my flight and relocating me to one 7 hours later causing all further transport plans to fall through as well. When I asked for some form of compensation for the delay (meal tickets, hotel room, anything) they informed me this was due to the first flight being delayed and that I will have to take care of myself on the matter. Very disappointed in the service and now stranded 7 hours from home.

"30 days for your refund to be reviewed"

Trip Verified | WestJet canceled the flight due to weather, no big deal. Here's my issue they dot have more flights to Vancouver for days Dec 20th original flight. They say I won't get home till after Christmas. So I book with Air Canada a flight leaves the next day great. But you have to wait 30 days for your refund to be reviewed! I barely had enough money to book my Air Canada flight because WestJet won't refund my money. This is such a scummy process.

"heavily disappointed by the level of respect"

Trip Verified | I want to file a complaint with WestJet's service system. I had a flight yesterday (December 20th) that was from Toronto to Vancouver (WS705) and it was canceled due to the snowstorm in Vancouver. Not only have I yet received any email from WestJet about the cancellation (or even notice regarding the cancellation), I had to find out after the fact. I then called WestJet for 9 hours but the agent constantly left me on hold (for approx. 3 hrs) because she was also not receiving any response. The agent first told me that West Jet has options after December 23rd for a replacement flight, and then started looking at flights from other companies (e.g. Air Canada, Flair Air) and then left me on hold for an hour where she then came back and told me Air Canada had flights on the 20th and the 21st for a replacement but with overlays as long as 13 hours. After leaving me on hold for nearly an hour more, she came back and told me that unfortunately Air Canada only offers a replacement for today (which was the 20th) with overlays of up to 26 hours (that’s the only option) and West Jet only has available flights starting a the 27th. She then left me on hold again and came back telling me she only has bad news, that there were no flights offered and she can only offer me a refund (after 9 hours of calling) and that according to WestJet’s policy, they can only replace me with a flight up until the 22nd (if there was any available- which there was none). As the result, the only option is to cancel my flight and refund it. By canceling the whole trip that I had planned for months, I was speechless. As a loyal customer of WestJet, whom I have planned most of my vacation trips with, I am heavily disappointed by the level of respect it has for its customers (as seen without any notification even up until now regarding the cancellation of the flight), service options - as seen from 9 hours of calling (there must be multiple customers like me), leniency for its customers - when facing such consequences, what are most customers like me going to do? What if there are emergencies and more important factors for completing the trip, are you going to have the same attitude and response? This makes me ultimately hopeless that such a large and credible air company as WestJet has zero implications for such consequences for their customers, with zero leniencies in place.

"never get on another WestJet flight again"

Trip Verified | WestJet is an airline that is best avoided as its service has deteriorated, since it was acquired by private equity fund. I have been a platinum member of WestJet Rewards, since the start of the program but will not be from next year onwards. Flight was late taking off due to scramble to get oversized carry-ons onto the plane. The food was a terrible cottage pie and all the flatware and glasses were dirty. The customer service is appalling and the priority line was closed in my face and the Manager was rude, arrogant and unhelpful. I will never get on another WestJet flight again because of them.

"A horrible flight experience"

Trip Verified | A horrible flight experience. I understand that in the holiday season there will be delays and cancelations, but my experience yesterday was horrible. First, we made our connection tightly because it was delayed, but they denied us boarding because we had a checked bag that wouldn't make it. Come to find out (10 hours later) that they have no idea where that bag is. They said it never left Kona, but Kona says it's not there. So no bag with our winter coats. Multiple westjet planes sat on the runway waiting to be deiced. On the tarmac for 3 hours before the flight was canceled and we went back to the terminal. Then waited 4 hours for a bag that never came. Then got in line and waited 6 hours to fix the rebooking. They said they would rebook us all automatically, but they only rebooked us to the connection, not the final destination. The line moved so slowly because there was only one person to help the hundreds. The Air Canada line was much shorter, only 40 people rather than 300. I was at Vancouver Airport for 17 hours, when I could've been on the original flight they denied me access to (because of a bag they actually had lost). And to top it all off, no offer for compensation or remedy. They actually told all the people in line to "go home and come back tomorrow" as if we had a home to go to and all the hotels weren't booked. This is the first and last time I fly with WestJet.

"we missed check in"

Trip Verified | We showed up an hour before our flight (10:30am flight at 11:30am) with WestJet at the Lethbridge airport for a flight to Calgary. We waited for someone to check our baggage for 15-20 minutes before deciding to sit down thinking they delayed baggage check in like the flight. But when we finally saw people at the desk and went to check our baggage the lady at the desk said we wouldn't be able to bring our luggage because we missed check in even though we were standing at the desk waiting for them and no one showed up. The lady at the desk then lied and said there was always someone at the desk even though we waited for someone to show up and were ignored. I now have to drive for two hours to Calgary and hope I make my connecting flight just so I can have clothes for my trip, all because she was not available to check our baggage at the time she was supposed to be. Absolutely appalled at the laziness and complete lack of customer service and accountability. I have also tried to contact WestJet to move our flight or find a way to ensure we can make our flight in Calgary and I keep getting hung up on before I can even speak to someone.
