"the most traumatic experience"

Not Verified | Worst experience, arriving at Calgary airport from London Heathrow I was informed that my connecting flight to Nanaimo was delayed, waiting in a freezing cold departure 'lounge' the flight changed times several times as they were waiting for a pilot, finally at midnight we were informed the flight was cancelled. Having flown for 15 hours and waited for a further 4 hours at the airport I asked what I was supposed to do and was met by a shrug of the shoulders. I got to a hotel at 2am - no vouchers or pre-payment or compensation from WestJet was made. For the following 3 days I went to the airport to inquire where my luggage was, I queued for hours, I am now back in London still waiting for my luggage to be found. This was without doubt the most traumatic experience of my life, no help or compassion was shown by the Airline. I spoke to some people who had slept on the terminal floor for 5 days or more having been abandoned by WestJet and who could not afford to book themselves a hotel room. I will never fly WestJet again

Trip Verified | Absolutely horrible airline with no care whatsoever for customers. Steer clear at all costs. Canceled flight with no communication. Hours trying to get a hold of them with no success. Ended up booking with another airline at my expense to get to my original destination. Terrible

"poor customer experience"

Trip Verified | We consider ourselves to have been fortunate to travel on our intended departure date. However, a week later and we still haven’t had any acknowledgment of our lost luggage report and have no confidence someone is actually looking for it. We arrived at Vancouver airport at 4am to find huge queues at check in. No one was on hand managing the situation. We joined the end of the line. After 45 minutes waiting in a hall we finally located someone who informed us we were in the wrong queue. We moved and luckily checked in and made it onto our flight. On arrival at Calgary we ran to our next flight, boarded and were informed we would be further delayed taking off, in order to allow time for some checked luggage to be transferred. Unfortunately this did not include our bags. (Side note: there was zero gluten free food options on this flight.) After waiting for an hour at Cancun airport, we, along with approx 20 other passengers were informed our bags hadn’t made the flight and should submit a lost luggage report online. After struggling to submit the report using the full journey details (The system kept telling me to speak to agent at the airport despite all information being accurate - incredibly frustrating), I was finally able to do so using the final leg journey information. Following the submission of our report I have had zero contact. No official confirmation that the report has been received. No assurances that our bags are being sought out. I organized a callback from customer service who could give me no information because they couldn’t access the relevant system. They could transfer me to the baggage team, but it was a 4 hour wait and it was unlikely they’d be able to help due to the ‘severity of the situation’. I understand that this was an extreme weather scenario and that the ground teams are under pressure but as a company it seems WestJet is suffering from a lack of leadership, a lack of resources and a lack of due care for its passengers and their belongings. We consider ourselves fortunate to have travelled, where many were unable to this festive season. But have been anxious about our delayed belongings since we got here (with no updates from the airline) and spent time and money re-purchasing essential clothes and supplies. This poor customer experience will cause us to consider traveling with a different airline in future!

"response to situation has been unacceptable"

Trip Verified | I was on a flight with WestJet on Dec l9th. Due to the weather they lost our luggage and WestJet cancelled the flights of family members. We are totally understanding that the weather is unprecedented and is beyond anyone’s control, however WestJet response to this situation has been unacceptable. We have submitted our delayed luggage requests and have given an extremely generous grace period of 1 week. What is extremely upsetting is that we have not received any contact that they have even accepted that we have lost our luggage. We still do not have our luggage, have had no update from WestJet. Very horrible experience!

"Absolutely a joke"

Not Verified | Absolutely a joke. Definitely will do my best to never fly with WestJet again. Cancelled flights and then said they would contact via email and nothing. Cancelled another flight and left us high and dry. Somehow our luggage made it to our final destination without us. Thousands of dollars lost due to having to more book. And had to explain to my 11 year old about Santa due to leaving us stranded. Not the way you would expect your kid to figure that out.

"Very disappointed with how things were handled"

Trip Verified | Terrible experience in a really tough situation. My flight was cancelled to no fault of WestJet because weather has been terrible. The way things we handled were awful for everyone. I went to the airport to try and rebook my flight (with the understanding that it was a shot in the dark). When I got in line, I was told by an employee that the reason I was in line was as empty me and they could help me. I was in line for 5 hours and when I got to the front, I was told that they could do nothing for me. I’m completely reasonable and understand that some things are out of control do the airline but the aftermath of this satiation was in control of the airline and they botched it. Very disappointed with how things were handled. If you have a chance, avoid WestJet as other airlines have better resources to help you out in tough times. My GF was able to fly out completely fine to the same destination from the same airport with a different airline. Hoping everyone is able to rectify their situation and have a good holiday.

"Hopelessness and despair awaits you"

Trip Verified | 5 cancellations and reroutings - under three different reservations, for 6 of my family. All flights cancelled. 3 different bookings, complete with rebookings, travel by ground to multiple different cities all cancelled. I will never fly or recommend WestJet ever again. If you take a chance with this firm, you risk a very miserable experience indeed. Hopelessness and despair awaits you.

"one of the worst airline that exists"

Not Verified | Our flight was scheduled for December 23, 2022 in the morning. When we were waiting at the departure gate to board, they informed that the flight had been delayed. The crew was not on the plane. The pilots had not arrived yet. After 45 minutes of delay, they announced that the flight was canceled without any explanation. The weather was not bad at that time and many other flights of other airlines with the same schedule were leaving on time. Our luggage was not even transferred to the plane. WestJet already knew they were going to cancel the flight. Why is WestJet scheduling an unstaffed flight? Why do they make people arrive 3 hours early, plan their vacations, and then cancel? Don't they realize that they ruin the plans of the passengers and don't give them options to travel later? They refund the money, but there is no space on other flights and the other airlines are very expensive when booking at the last minute I have lost my vacation after booking the flight 10 months in advance. Why is the government allowing this company to do this to their customers? If West Jet has no workers, close the company or pay your employees better. This is an abuse. It is one of the worst airline that exists.

"outright lying and hiding from customers"

Trip Verified | Never had a worse experience with an airline, outright lying and hiding from their customers. Their management has gone into hiding and their customer service is unreachable. We were kicked off the phone after waiting 4 hours in the English line, and 5 and a half hours in the French line (we speak both within the family so we tried both). WestJet has not met the standard of care which they're required to show their passengers. As a regular passenger of Flair, I can tell you, even Flair has better customer service and reliability than WestJet. Let alone Air Canada, they're miles better. WestJet has abandoned Canada so it's time for Canadians to abandon them. Expensive tickets and horrible service don't deserve your hard earned money. Better off walking.

"entire experience was terrible"

Trip Verified | My entire experience with Westjet was terrible but the worst part was the so called manager at London airport and the employee who were openly abusive, aggressive, hostile and argumentative. At one point when I asked to talk with the manager I was told that they would call security to have me "frog marched" out of the airport. The manager shoved a sheet in my face telling me to fill in the online form and that someone would contact me within 2 days. She told me she could not and would not rebook my flight and that all flights were full until past Christmas meaning I would not be able to see my family for Christmas. These two and another started screaming at me when I asked why I could not be put on standby and refused to even let me get on my first flight to Toronto and shut down the service desk while I was still waiting on an update for departure. I was accused of being nasty. All employees should be trained mandatory in de-escalation strategies or even basic customer service. Do not ever fly westjet out of London airport.
