"horrible customer service"
Doug Marsh (United States)
Not Verified | Absolutely horrible customer service. Delay in Austin; missed the connection in Calgary to Kelowna; stuck in Calgary with no accommodations and no bags. No help from any employees. No vouchers for food or accommodation. They should have automatically rebooked us on the later flight.

"friendly crew was top notch"
Simon Channon (United Kingdom)
✅ Trip Verified | First time in business class with this airline. It was at a very keen price and we did not expect it to match the best of Europe. That caveat applied to the food and drink which was palatable but not top quality. However, the service from a very friendly crew was top notch and the seat was very impressive. It could change shape in numerous ways and adjusted right down to flat bed where it met a padded support for the feet. I had the best night in a number of long haul flights. As on the outbound flight the entertainment options were limited. Unlike many detractors on this site, the flight was on schedule to the minute. I would happily use this service again.

"by far the worst experience"
S Neale (Canada)
✅ Trip Verified | This was by far the worst experience and airline I have ever had in my life. I have a special needs son and arrived at my gate with my children on time and was turned away at the plane for no reason. My suspicion is an overbooked flight. My son screamed for 30 minutes as there was no warning at all and no reason given. We weren’t even last in line. I was put on another flight from Calgary to Kelowna 6 hours later with no compensation whatsoever and very rude staff. Hung up on by customer service and simply “we can’t help you I have no authority”. I would never recommend this airline I have never experienced such treatment and no reason or rectifying of the situation.

"We were not disappointed"
Simon Channon (United Kingdom)
✅ Trip Verified | Despite reading many negative reviews of Westjet my wife and I decided to trust the airline on one of its premium routes. We were not disappointed. It was like biz class 25 years ago, comfy reclining seats, good legroom, reasonable food and drink delivered by a friendly crew. Only minor negative was the limited entertainment menu.

"baggage services team were very helpful"
P Best (Australia)
Not Verified | We arrived late into Seattle from Anchorage & missed our connection to Edmonton. Shifted to Westjet and our baggage was misplaced to Edmonton. The baggage services team were very helpful and courteous at all times. Eventually found and delivered. I did not get all the names but towards the end it was Laura or Lara & Renae from the Edmonton desk.

"they couldn’t compensate me"
L Hayle (Canada)
✅ Trip Verified | Changed my flight to the next day with little warning causing me to miss a wedding. Then claimed they couldn’t compensate me because, “Upon review of your reservation, we are unable to approve your claim for compensation as the most significant factor for your flight interruption was due to a strike or work stoppage and outside of WestJet’s control.”

"they would not pay anything"
Seyed Ziaedin Miry (Canada)
✅ Trip Verified | I booked an original flight from Edmonton to Toronto, on Thursday, May 18th, which was cancelled because of the strike of Westjet employees. on the date before (Wednesday), I received an email that informed me about the cancellation but did not book me for another flight. Over their cancellation, I reached out to Hooper (the third party that I got my flight originally) and they informed me that there are no other flights for Thursday and I needed to return by Friday, therefore I reserved another flight for Friday (May 19th) with Westjet, I am a student attending a conference in Edmonton on that date and over their cancellation, I had to pay one extra day for Hotel and food, also I lost my working shift on Friday, therefore, I fill a compensation form to claim this cost. After two weeks, they informed me that they would not pay anything as the strike was the reason. Overall, they did not take responsibility for their cancellation and people's time and money means nothing to them.

"complete lack of empathy, integrity"
Austin Miller (United States)
✅ Trip Verified |
My recent experience with Westjet Airlines was nothing short of a nightmare. From the moment I encountered an unexpected delay on my way to the airport, it became clear that this airline has zero regard for their passengers' well-being or circumstances beyond their control. Arriving just 45 minutes before my flight was scheduled to depart, I was met with absolute inflexibility and indifference from Westjet staff. Despite the possibility of making it to my gate if I hurried, they denied me the opportunity to try, leaving me stranded at the airport. Their lack of compassion and understanding was particularly disheartening considering the circumstances that caused my delay, which were completely out of my control. Desperate to reach my destination, I inquired about alternative options, specifically if I could catch a connecting flight in Canada. However, I was met with further disappointment as I was informed that missing the first leg of my flight would render me ineligible for the connecting flight. The lack of flexibility in such situations is appalling, especially when it is the airline's own strict policies that prevent passengers from finding alternative solutions. To make matters worse, when exploring the possibility of booking another flight, I was informed that I would have to pay the full fare for a new ticket, with no credit or consideration given for my missed flight. This heartless approach to customer service is simply unacceptable. Despite pleading with the airline, explaining my situation, and apologizing profusely, Westjet showed no sympathy and offered no assistance whatsoever. As a 28-year-old disabled individual, I had saved diligently to purchase my original flight ticket, only to find myself stranded at the airport with no means of getting home. Despite multiple attempts to seek help or some form of resolution from the airline, my pleas fell on deaf ears. The complete lack of empathy and support from Westjet left me feeling utterly helpless and abandoned. Ultimately, I was forced to rely on a family member to lend me the exorbitant amount required to purchase a new ticket, which cost me an additional $1000. To add insult to injury, I was then informed that I had to pay for my checked bags again, even though I had already paid for them on the previous flight. Westjet's greed and disregard for their customers' financial burdens are truly reprehensible. After enduring a series of financial hardships to secure my new ticket, I thought the worst was behind me. However, my faith in Westjet was shattered once again when I arrived at the gate and was told that my carry-on, containing my fragile and expensive music equipment, had to be checked due to a full flight. Despite expressing my concerns and emphasizing the delicate nature of the items, the gate attendant callously insisted on checking my bag. To my devastation, upon reaching my destination, I discovered that my music equipment had been irreparably damaged during the flight. Equipment that held immense personal and financial value, and brought me solace and joy in life, was now rendered useless. The careless mishandling of my belongings by Westjet staff has left me not only emotionally distraught but also financially burdened, as I lack the means to replace or repair the equipment. Westjet's complete lack of empathy, integrity, and basic customer care is truly appalling.

"flight delay was unacceptable"
S Kapoor (Canada)
✅ Trip Verified | It was an absolute disaster from start to finish. The flight delay and lack of assistance provided by the airline left me feeling frustrated, stranded, and utterly disappointed. The flight delay was unacceptable. Not only did we receive minimal information about the delay, but the airline failed to provide any reasonable explanation or updates. Passengers were left in the dark, anxiously awaiting news while the departure time kept getting pushed back. Instead of proactively addressing the situation, WestJet seemed content to leave passengers stranded without offering any support or alternatives. When seeking assistance from WestJet staff at the Calgary Airport, I encountered a dismissive and unhelpful attitude. She appeared indifferent to the passengers' predicament and showed a complete lack of empathy. The customer service experience was nothing short of abysmal, leaving me with the impression that WestJet simply does not value or prioritize their customers' satisfaction.

"sense of humour is back"
H Darson (Canada)
✅ Trip Verified | Westjet’s sense of humour is back! Thank you to all the flight attendants today, but especially the blonde woman with glasses who appeared to be the head flight attendant. She made some good jokes before the safety demonstration and all the staff seemed to be happy to be at work!
