"our experience was wonderful"

Trip Verified | Chicago to Miami. We had an issue with wheelchair assistance on the ground at Miami airport, but upon reaching out to United they immediately rectified the situation. Everyone and everything else about our experience with United was wonderful! Exactly as we expected and more. Very friendly and helpful staff, and even better customer service. Thank you!

"crew are so rude"

Trip Verified | We booked a flight from Pittsburgh to San Diego via San Francisco. The flight got delayed by 3hrs (they delayed for an hour at first, then for 2 hours and the final announcement said 3hr delay) and we missed the connecting flight. The crew are so rude that they didn’t even apologize. They said all they can do is book another flight the next morning for free of cost. Seriously? You ruined my trip and there’s nothing you can do about it. They are not even paying for my accommodation for overnight stay in SF. I’m never ever gonna fly through United again after this trip.

"most unprofessional"

Trip Verified | Nashville to Newark. Literally the worst airline experience ever. I’ve flown so many times in my life. United Airlines has the most unprofessional, rude, and unorganized staff and service around. I will definitely stick with Allegient from now on.

"kept on changing the time"

Trip Verified | Pittsburgh to San Diego via San Francisco which is having a layover of about 1hr 30mins. Just after 10mins of the boarding start time they announced that the flight is delayed for about an hour and later on they delayed it by another 1hr and then finally 1hr 30mins. They kept on changing the time. We knew definitely we would miss the flight, so we asked for other options that we would get as our flight is at 9:09. There is only one flight in the next day morning from SFO to SAN and we were on standby. We asked for compensation or even just providing us the accomodation but they said that they can’t as it is not the issue with maintainance and it is an air traffic issue. Finally they confirmed another flight from SFO to SAN which is at 12:52. This is too bad for an airlines, there were like almost 10-12 people who want to reach SAN and to do that everyone has to reach SFO by midnight and catch another flight at 12:52 in the next day. It’s like missing the whole day, and they can’t do anything for that. United are so irresponsible and they were just smiling without even saying sorry. They kept saying just wait here, don’t go anywhere may be the time would change but it kept on increasing hour by hour. I don’t even know how can they state themselves as No.1 in customer satisfaction which is completely false. The same kind of delay happened with few other airlines, but they are good at least they felt sorry and even compensated us.

"worst airline I have ever been on"

Trip Verified | San Francisco to Reno. This is the worst airline I have ever been on. I have given this airline 5 chances and every time something goes wrong. I would understand if an airline had delays some time but every time is inexcusable, I feel like it was false advertising the times it says because that is most certainly not the real time. I have never given a review in my life but I am so mad I need people to know so they don’t have to go through the same thing the experience I have had with this airline is terrible, and I will not be flying with them again.

"$440 to extend our ticket 8 days"

Trip Verified | My wife and I booked a flight from Monterey to Colorado Springs. An emergency occurred an we had to extend our stay 8 days. United demanded $220/ticket or $440 to extend our ticket 8 days, hiding behind company policy (bureaucracy), even though the price of the ticket did not change. We contacted Southwest Airlines, which gave us our ticket back for $89 each. We love Southwest Airlines because they are personal and don’t nickel and dime us like most other airlines. We have changed tickets before with Southwest Airlines with no problems; if the new ticket is more expensive we simply pay the difference, which is fair. We are seniors and fly a lot, both nationally and internationally. This year we flew round trip to Colorado x 2, North Carolina x 2, Hawaii, France, and the Republic of Georgia. Nationally we prefer Southwest and believe they have the best overall value.

"the plane was very fresh"

Trip Verified | Los Angeles to Salt Lake City. Slow boarding process on a full flight, very friendly and attentive cabin staff, the plane was very fresh and though the flight was short but a long taxing on take off and landing caused a slight delay.

"disappointing and ugly experience"

Not Verified | Burlington to Newark. The United flight was delayed 3 hours, and when we landed I received a message that my luggage did not arrive, it will arrive on the following flight. The customer service is terrible, lacking compassion and totally inefficient. My luggage did not arrive within 24 hours, as promised. 2 days later and I still haven’t received my suitcase. They have lied on the phone and miscommunicated between me and the driver service. What a disappointing and ugly experience. I would not recommend this airline to anyone.

"Holding customers for ransom"

Trip Verified | Toronto to Oaxaca via Houston. Holding customers for ransom? I recently had an unbelievable experience flying to Mexico on United with a bike. Booked the flight several months back, checked with the United call centre on charges for taking a bike and confirmed what I'd read earlier on the United web site. Both made it clear that if the bike bag fell within weight and dimensional limits it would be charged simply as a second item of checked baggage i.e. $50. When I checked in at the airport, the United agent insisted that I owed an extra $200 (!) for the bike even though it came in under 50 lb limit and was the standard dimensions set out in the Airline's limits. No amount of back and forth would bring them round to honour the original terms. And curiously my two companions who had checked in a little earlier for the same flights also with bikes were charged much less - one paid $25 as it was his first and only item of checked luggage and the other was charged nothing for his bike as second item (his was in an identical Evoc bike bag and weighed just a little more than mine). The experience left a very bad taste. What can you do but pay up when you have already bought the ticket and will be leaving soon? This seems to be the kind of business practice you would expect of a dubious, disreputable business or one might experience in some part of the world where corrupt practices are more common.

"bad smelling air freshener"

Trip Verified | On an 8 hour trip from Honolulu to Houston the flight attendants sprayed the cabin of the plane with a bad smelling air freshener with no regards to anyone’s health, including babies and younger children. Many people on the plane were coughing. I’ve never experienced this on an airline.
