"personal screen with DirecTV"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Richmond to Chicago. I felt so pleased with United Airlines and its people. We got to Chicago 19 minutes early, and so far there hasn't been any turbulence during the flight. I enjoy having a personal screen with DirecTV right in front of me.

"worst customer service"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Lansing to Green Bay via Chicago. United Airlines has the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced in my life. Lose my bag that they required me to check, left on hold. Transferred between departments, each saying I need to talk to the other, nobody genuinely does anything to help, and what they do offer is less than the minimum anybody would expect for this level of inconvenience. Forced me to check my bag again today, even after an hour plus phone call prior to arriving at the airport, where I tried everything I could to get them to allow me to not have to check my carry on. Apparently it’s cheaper to pay a service charge, in addition to paying for a checked bag, than to upgrade my ticket for another $100. I get to the airport and they make me pay for the checked bag and I still can’t carry it on. Have to check it and hope to god they don’t lose it again. Get to the gate and the flight is delayed, going to miss my connection from Chicago to home. Nobody here for the airline at the gate so I have to call the 800 number again, keep getting cut off, left on hold again to die, only to be told to try and make my connecting flight, though we know it’s on time and boarding closes two minutes after this one arrives. I’m again at the mercy of random ticketing agent in Chicago when I get there, and hope to god there’s a spot for me on a later flight... don’t know if and when I get home, and if I’ll even have my bag when I get there. My phone is currently dying so I will have no way of letting anyone at home know when and what flight I’ll be in on, because the charge cords (the one I brought from home AND the one I had to purchase when I got here because my phone was dying and United lost my bag) are in my carry on which they again required me to check. United don’t deserve anybody’s business with service like this.

"It was a nightmare"

(Canada)

Trip Verified | Vancouver to Los Angeles via San Francisco. Worst airline ever. I’ll not fly UA again, it wasn’t worth the money. We were on a family trip to celebrate my daughter’s birthday. Our first flight were delayed by almost 2 hours. Because of that reason we lost our connection flight from SFO to LAX. Staff were rude, they booked us in separated seats (even my 5 yo daughter). Our second flight was also delayed by more than 1 hour. They ruined our mood and our trip. We we’re exhausted after spending an entire day at the airport with a 5 yo who couldn’t wait to get to Disneyland. We asked the staff at Vancouver to move us to a direct flight and they refused to do it. No customer service. It was a nightmare.

"crew scowling at passengers"

(New Zealand)

Trip Verified | This was one of the worst flying experiences I have ever had. First the check in staff were rude and told us as we were boarding that the overhead bins were already full (why?) and we had to check in our cabin baggage. They told us that it would be checked through to Auckland. When I said no, they insisted or we couldn't fly. We still had a 12.5 hour flight from LA to NZ after this one with no carry on and whatever we could keep on us personally. Get on the plane no greeting, ignored. Inflight, crew scowling at passengers. One crew member, while collecting rubbish, looked each passenger in the face and just said "trash" at them. Land in LA, no idea where we had to go for our connecting flight, no info anywhere. Went to the United customer service and asked them, they were annoyed we were asking and pointed to where we had to go. I double checked that our luggage was checked all the way through and we were asked for our bag tags. The United check in person back in Washington hadn't given us any on our boarding passes! Finally get to Auckland, no luggage, even the carry on. United hadn't loaded any of it onto ANZ. Been home for 24 hours now, no luggage still. This also happened to two other people on our flight to NZ, they flew United from Florida to LA and none of their luggage arrived in NZ either. When I reached out to United, they blamed Air NZ. I will never fly this airline again under any circumstances.

"Worst experience of my life"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Worst experience of my life. I booked round tickets for me and my family with united Airlines. I travelled from Newark to Delhi on 24 march with my family (wife, one child and one infant) and my return ticket was for 24th April (Delhi to Newark. But when we went to Delhi airport for flight check-in on 24th April, airport officers/check-In counter told us that my infant baby ticket is suspended by United Airlines (they gave us proof also), and they can’t issue boarding pass for Infant. When we contacted United Airlines customer care at same time then they told us that my infant ticket is suspended because as per united airline records my infant baby did not travel to Delhi from Newark (EWR) on 24th March 2019 and that’s why United Airline suspended my infant ticket because of no show and we missed our flight due to suspended status of infant ticket. We have Infant boarding pass(EWR to DEL), I am not sure how come a International Airline can miss something like this. Initially they told us that they don’t have any seat available till 5th May and we can reissue 3 tickets for 5th May 2019 but asked to buy Infant ticket as he is turning 2 years on 1 May 2019. After many effort we were able to get reissue of tickets for 28th April but with different route, DEL to HKG and HKG to EWR

"Bad onboard luggage management"

(Mexico)

Trip Verified | Bad onboard luggage management. Mexico to Houston, the attendant dedicated to speak out loud in English, and only in English to all pasangers. Ironically, after every message she finished with “gracias”. Now; we've been diverted to San Antonio because they tell us that Houston Airport is closed and and they cant get us any info on our connections.Cant blame the team for that.

"very long and entertain-less flight"

(United States)

Trip Verified | I have flown United a few times at this point and when booking didn’t think anything of it because I was hoping to get more miles. Unfortunately the screen malfunctioned on the plane. Now, I know, TVs on a plane in general is a luxury. However, this was a 5 hour flight which resulted in a lengthy delay at 11 at night and for those who struggle to sleep in an aisle seat and very long and entertain-less flight. Not to mention food and drink only happened once that I remember and there’s really no benefits to being a mileage plus member. I worry about my next flight out there to see my partner.

"horrible customer service"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Denver to Fort Lauderdale. Avoid avoid avoid. I will never fly United again. There are weirdly cryptic baggage fees, consistently late flights, and horrible customer service. If you can, I would advise steering very clear of this airline.

"2x2x2 seating on the 787"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Tampa to Beijing via Washington. This was an award business class flight ticketed four months ago -scheduled for SAS from Washington Dulles to Copenhagen and Air China continuing on to Beijing. When the SAS pilots went out on strike a week before my departure, everything was left up in the air, so to speak. I waited until the day before my flight in the hope that the Scandanavian labor dispute would be resolved, but my luck and time ran out. United Airlines had the first segment from TPA to IAD, and the award was booked through Mileage Plus, so I called their gold elite help line to attempt some sort of rescheduling. The customer service representative was patient in guiding me through several alternative options to Beijing. Connecting through Copenhagen was not possible, but she did manage to force open a business class seat on United's non-stop IAD-PEK. In fact, both flights were eminently pleasant, although 13 hours on any flight seems interminable. Both flights departed and arrived significantly early, and service onboard met my expectations for a long haul business class flight. Although our cabin was 100% full, the attendants hustled and provided attentive service. The elaborate meal on the flight to China was delicious and filling, although the beef main-course could have been somewhat hotter. In addition, United's 2x2x2 seating on the 787 is not the equal of the 1x2x1 arrangement I was anticipating on SAS. Nevertheless, the seat was quite comfortable. Special mention should be made of the bedding United offers in Polaris. In the end, although I was disappointed to miss out on flying with SAS and Air China, this was my first experience with the new Polaris business class, and I was impressed by crew, plane, and customer service.

"try to avoid taking United at all costs"

(United States)

Not Verified | Newark to Albany. I travel for work extensively. I sincerely try to avoid taking United at all costs. Unfortunately. My last 3 flights were with United. Travel with your organization is truly frustrating. Your flights are never on time, you charge ridiculous prices for services that are either free or half the cost with your competitors. Even your own employees seem frustrated working for your organization. I am writing this review to let less experienced travelers know. If you have other flight options, please use them. United will be routinely late, you will miss connections and they will nickel and dime you for everything. Their staff can be extremely unhelpful and essentially take the attitude that you are stuck with their inferior service and high fees.
