FRA-SFO. Poor economy seating, but attentive and professional cabin crew. Food is fairly good and drink plentiful with crew offering water, juice and snacks throughout the flight. B747-400 fleet does not have at-seat IFE relying on monitors over the aisles instead. If you're travelling with children then this can be a problem as they can't see the monitors easily and some programmes might not be suitable. Lufthansa doesn't market itself as being child-friendly but small toys, colouring books are available. Childrens' meals are impossible to order we found - they must be ordered 72 hours in advance of the flight, however, we were told that they had to be ordered at check-in; fortunately the adult meals were suitable for children.

LWO-MUC-TXL. Crew professional though smiles were rare. A quick round of drinks and a small snack offered on Lviv-Munich segment; on the German domestic segment - only drinks. Both flights were punctual, the cabin interior clean and pleasant, FAs did nothing more or less than they were supposed to.

JFK to LHR via FRA return. Good food, beverages, pleasant service and comfortable seat - entertainment system also excellent. The lounges in New York and in Frankfurt had also been improved greatly. The big negative is Frankfurt airport which goes from bad to worse with walks between gates that are too long and difficult for older passengers, and customs officers that are slow and rude. The London planes leave and arrive away from the buildings so everyone is herded close together in a bus (if it is raining everyone gets drenched) on this trip we waited 25 minutes on the bus before it moved.

HKG-MUC return in business. Smooth check-in at the HK Airport Express station. LH uses the UA lounge in HK and is spacious, broken into multiple areas for eating, working, relaxing etc. Selection of hot food and snacks good, better than the LH business class lounge in Munich! Both legs on A340-600 aircraft. Angled lie flat seat is not as good as Qantas or Asiana Airlines, but better than American Airlines and Air France. Managed to sleep on both flights, but leaves me with a slight backache. IFE is AVOD, selection is satisfactory rather than great. The monitor is offset to one side on LH seats, and is very strange. Meals are good, although I skipped all hot dishes as I prefer to sleep on night flights. MUC is a pleasant easy-to-navigate airport and transferring there is so much more pleasant than in CDG, FRA or LHR.

CDG-FRA, business class. Ground staff nice and welcoming, lounge at CDG1 crowded but well furnished. A321 cabin excellent with plenty of legroom, leather seats, offered an excellent diner. Crew just fantastic on this leg. FRA-BKK business class. The lounge is appalling consisting of plastic chairs with coffee and tea. Not much to enjoy. Ground staff at the gate rude. B747-400 very old aircraft, toilets have no amenities! The seats are not flat but angled. The headsets is attached to the seats and usually never work. The pillow is as comfortable as a plastic bag. Entertainment system good. Crew could not care less and very cold, would not dare ask them anything. Food average and service not up to standards. Never again, I do not understand Lufthansa any longer!

On a recent weekend round trip MUC-DUS (Y class) I noticed that cost cuttings are now apparent at airports: newspaper racks which have been around for years are not stocked at all on Sundays and do have less of a choice on weekdays. Also seems that the coffeemakers in their gates are diminishing or even disappearing. I am not sure whether this will really help them save money or whether they are just desperate. Onboard standards still remain with mostly cheery crews, a drinks round for the short hop and decent aircraft and seat pitch. Flights are mostly on time as well. They currently are my airline of choice, however once standards start to slip also onboard (or their ontime statistics or reliability in terms of aircraft maintenance) I will look for alternatives.

PDX-FRA business class. Check in pleasant and efficient, able to use United Airlines Red Carpet Club which is pretty mediocre, no food service and limited beverages - wi-fi however. Boarding was a zoo. Had seats 1A and C and 2A and C as was traveling with my family. Onboard service was only okay Food nothing special, IFE simply adequate. Alcohol was okay. Scotch was Black Label, wine adequate Flight over was an A340-300 with only biz and economy class. Return MUN-ORD and then United First ORD-PDX which made for a very long day. Was unable to get the boarding passes at MUN where the folks at check in could not have been ruder - well, the staff at the Lufthansa business lounge was worse. Begged somebody at customer service to use their internet connection and printer and was able to retrieve my own boarding passes. Took me about 45 minutes to stroll the airport begging for help. Flight from MUN was much better boarding experience. Once airborne, took about an hour to get a drink as the crew wanted to load up carts and serve everybody at once so everyone waited. Seats are good but not wonderful. We also flew Lufthansa between FRA-Prague and Athens and Munich and it was okay. Short haul business class is a joke - same pitch as economy, just dedicated middle seat so have more space.

LCY-FRA, MUC-LCY. Both flights comfortable - RJ85 out and DHC of Augsburg Air on way back. Excellent crews, first rate service. Good legroom, good food and drink service - sandwich and chocolate bar- couple of drinks runs. Cost of flights minimal, so great value. Both flights punctual take-off and early arrival.

LEJ-MUC-CPH return in economy. German domestic flights served by small Canadair and DeHavilland planes, both relatively comfortable and clean with friendly staff. The typical short-haul meal was served, consisting of a small dry sandwich and a coffee. The international segment to Denmark was flown by SAS, using very old but comfortable MD80 planes. Staff friendly and it was a nice change to be on a different airline. No food or drinks served in economy left me thirsty and disappointed. For some reason Lufthansa offers flight connections at MUC with only 30 minutes transfer time. Sounds great at first, but once you're there it gets very chaotic. No time to shop, or even use the toilet. My checked-in bag didn't make it to my transfer flight and was left in MUC. Instead it was put on a later plane, forcing me to wait at the destination airport for several hours in vain. MUC is a nice airport, but I would recommend FRA as transfer when flying Lufthansa.
