Frankfurt Main Airport

I experienced long delays going through the T1 security check on the Saturday evening while making a transfer. It took 40 minutes to get through the line and I was fortunate to make my connecting flight which would have been the last of the day to my destination. I asked the staff member managing the line if it was always this bad and he replied in good English with his German accent "Sometimes it's worse!" Fortunately I am a European passport holder. After security there was passport control. The line for non-EU passport holders was almost as bad as that for the security check. It was all very disappointing and I would go as far to say disgraceful. What happened to German efficiency? Fraport could and indeed should learn much from how Amsterdam Schiphol operates.

Flew from Heathrow to Sao Paulo and back via Frankfurt. Never used this airport before and will avoid doing so again. Hate hate hate it! Designed to maximise walking distances. Disgraceful. On the way out everything was closed before 8pm apart from one poxy little (expensive) bar. On the return flight our luggage was left at Frankfurt. Not sure if this was Lufthansa's fault or the airports but both have been awful so it makes no odds.

Terribly slow work of staff. I had 2hrs of transit time and all this time was in queue of passport control then endless running then again customs control. No clear signs stupid and ineffective organization the worst airport. Extremely unfriendly staff.

We transited Frankfurt and due to gross inefficiencies by staff in security and passport control we missed our connection on our outward journey. Compounded to this was the attitude of gross uncaring by the staff of not only the airport but the Lufthansa airline ground staff who obviously have seen the whole thing many hundreds of times before that they are totally unsympathetic to the point of rudeness. All the terminal staff I came across had the same didn't give a monkeys attitude to passengers. If we had not been very pushy on our return we would have missed our return connection as well. Frankfurt cannot handle transit passengers. They should not be in the market as a hub airport. This is the 3rd time in a couple of years that we have had problems transiting Frankfurt. Never again.

Unfortunately I have to add to this catalogue of very poor experiences. Having left Abu Dhabi (with its usual 5* experience) I faced a 4.5 hour wait at Frankfurt to fly to Birmingham. On trying to access wifi with no success I endeavoured to find some customer information - no joy as the desk had a position closed board (I've never seen anyone there!). I did find another member of staff who tried to help but after 4 further attempts to login I couldn't' pass the Register page and was advised to walk around until I found a better hotspot (which I didn't find). Four sets of toilets were full and when I did find a space there were no hand towels/drier to use. Generally overpriced outlets. I agree with others' comments about security checks which seemed overly slow with plenty of staff not having to do much apart from chat and joke. Spoke to three other travellers who were also experiencing difficulty accessing information easily - no surprise if there's no one to help - and of course not a 'manager' in sight or available to provide any solutions to all these problems 'on the ground'. I intend to avoid any lengthy stay in this airport again even if it means having to pay more to fly direct - it's worth the price to keep your sanity.

Just returned from a return trip SYD-FRA and even though I am German I must say I agree with many of the reviews regarding poor or inconsistent or confusing signage throughout the airport. The security checks to get to my CX flight took 45 mins with the plane leaving late due to more passengers being caught up at security. This was mostly due to a recent secret EU review which enabled secret staff to get explosives and weapons easily through security on every second attempt out of 50! Needless to say the news and press were having a field day. Security had been stepped up the day before and the staff are receiving more training now. Drinks are expensive and everything you buy has a bond of a few cents due to the German recycling laws and you only get the money back when you hand the bottle back in this is the same throughout Germany.

This is increasingly becoming a very harrowing airport from a transit standpoint. Finding taxiing times after landing increasingly long. More often than not planes are parked on the tarmac and passengers have to be bussed to and from the terminal. There are long wait times when this happens because they use fairly large busses and don't leave till they are filled up. So if you are one of the first folks on the bus - it's normal to wait 15-20 minutes for it to leave. And finally the lines at immigration and the distances between the gates makes it very likely that you will miss your connecting flight if it is anything less than a 2 hour connection.

All but terrible. Passport check at the door of the plane (Lufthansa flight no less) on a flight from Athens (no kidding it was a passport check not a security check as only legally allowed by the Schengen agreement - I am a non-Canadian citizen legally residing in Canada permanently and evidently my citizenship was put into question until it was confirmed by the agent that I was traveling with my Canadian citizen spouse). Bus ride from airplane to terminal. Poor signage. Endless terminals and turns to reach a gate. Rude customs/immigration agents upon exit - I handed my passport with my Canadian PR card inside and he threw it back at me so spitefully that it flew over the counter bounced on me and landed on the floor plus after all that he denied the exit stamp (which they are required by law to stamp anyhow). Unfortunately we have to use that airport again in a few months - we avoided it on two other trips but we had no choice this time.

Terrible! Avoid this airport at any reasonable expense. Bus ride from plane to terminal endless security checks that are unreasonably long and confusing gate navigation. If you don't have 3 + hours to make a flight there's a good chance you'll miss it and the staff has no sympathy for putting you in a sure fail situation.

Seven passport and security checks between connecting flights. Poor signage. Interminable bus rides and long runs between terminals. Officials who don't care whether you make a connection. Baggage security screening is chaos. Things come out in random order with empty bins interspersed. Items pulled for further screening aren't announced. You have to notice that one of your bags is in a different area while any other carry-on's sit in the chaos. One long security line was diverted suddenly to a completely different area requiring a ten-minute walk with no explanation given. The signs indicated different terminal letters from the one we needed. When we asked for clarification we were just shouted at to do what we were told. Food and drink and far away from many gates. The systems are a mess or if they are intentional they are designed to make you miss your flight or arrive sweaty and exhausted at the last second.
