"cancelled without concern"

(United States)

Cancun to Baltimore via Fort Lauderdale. Avoid this airline if you have somewhere important to go, have any disability, avoid travelling through Fort Lauderdale because the Spirit staff there are probably the worst at applying all their carry on baggage rules. I had a camera bag with me which has never been a problem, they insisted on charging you 50$ extra. Completely prepared to make you miss your flight if possible. Flight get cancelled without much concern or apology. Meet a couple of wheelchair needing individuals who got bounced off the San Juan flight because there was no one available to push them to the gate.

"definitely fly Spirit again"

(United States)

First flight with Spirit Airlines, round trip Atlanta to Los Angeles. Flights were on time. Friendly staff and crew. Comfortable seats, plenty of leg room. Plane seemed to be new, or well taken care of. I purchased my assigned seats and also paid for my carryon bag. I brought my own snacks. I did spend $3.00 for a Coke, that's certainly not a big deal. I will definitely fly Spirit again!

"just read what's expected"

(United States)

Dallas Fort Worth to La Guardia with Spirit Airlines. If you want an easy flight just read what's expected when you arrive to the airport and you won't have any problems. I knew I needed to have something for my teenage kids so I had portable DVD players and movies for them to watch on the plane. I knew that we had to pay for drinks and munchies, so I had that with me before boarding. I knew the seats were small for my 14 yr old who's 5'9 and over 200 lbs, so yes I paid extra for wider seats. Worth the money, very comfortable seats! By the way I don't care what airline I'm traveling, or if its only for myself, I get leg room seats. Luggage - just about every airline charges for carry on also. By the way gym bags are free of charge as long as they don't have wheels. My suggestion, pay for everything on line in advance. Especially if you leaving you car parked at the airport for long term parking.

"average, nothing special"

(United States)

I flew Spirit Airlines from Myrtle Beach to Charleston WV where I live. I had flown Allegiant to MYR and I was supposed to fly back on Allegiant as well. However my flight was cancelled and I needed to get back to Charleston as soon as possible. So I decided to fly Spirit. I will say that it wasn't completely awful, but it still wasn't good in any way. I flew "big front", crew was nice and I did have to pay for my carry on which I wasn't too excited about. I got something to drink and the person sitting next to me was nice. Because I sat in "big front", my seat was far better than the others. Overall I think I had a decent, mediocre experience. I say it was average, nothing special and I'm glad that my flight on Spirit wasn't cancelled too!

"customer service is awful"

(United States)

Atlanta to Fort Myers. The customer service is awful as well the dynamic of the airline. Me, along with 27 other people were left behind because we got to our gate at 7:04 and our flight was leaving at 7:20, mind you all of our luggage was on the plane, and security took all of us over an hour to get through even though we checked into the airport at the Spirit desk at 5:30, well before our flight. No one was given a refund and the next available flight was the next day. When we asked to speak to a supervisor we were told that the main supervisor is out of town and the other supervisor was halfway across the Atlanta airport and refused to come and assist us (not kidding). I had asked if I could recieve assitance on being placed on another airline to the same destination or even further knowldge on another airline the service desk said they were not allowed to do that. I, as well as many other people tried calling the customer service for Spirit and was told that it would cost and additional $10 to talk to a real person and not a computer. Afterwards, I walked to a Delta desk and bought a ticket for that day and received great customer service all within 10 minutes.

"worst flight experience"

(United States)

New York to Managua via Fort Lauderdale. My one flight with Spirit Airlines was the worst flight experience I've had. They incorrectly weighed the aircraft and thus had to remove 100 bags at random from the flight. I didn't receive mine for 5 days. Both legs of my flight were delayed by at least 30 minutes. They don't provide a direct customer service line, and they make it impossible to speak with a live person even for other types of questions. They had the audacity to require that I answer a survey before I could even proceed with my phone call (it was not optional).

"got stuck in Las Vegas"

(United States)

Las Vegas to Minneapolis. Do not waste your time with this airline. They cancelled several flights due to crew related issues my wife and I got stuck in Las Vegas. The 1-800 number you had to call to rebook took an hour and 12 minutes sitting on hold for someone to answer the phone. And then another hour in 30 minutes standing in line waiting to get her hotel voucher and food vouchers. The hotel was okay, however none of the local restaurants accepted the food vouchers, they're only good at the airport. Save yourself the headache don't use Spirit Airlines.

"have the proper expectations"

(United States)

People need to understand you get what you pay for, Spirit is an ultra-low cost provider that gets you from point A to point B with no frills. For my flights they are often 1/2 the costs of the major airlines. My round trip flights form Minneapolis St Paul to Dallas Fort-Worth costs me about $100 and I've paid a little as $70. Nearly every complaint deals with nickel and dime fees that are mostly unjustified since all their rules and fees a clearly stated. I have been flying Spirit for the last few years (over 10 round trip flights) and my only complaint is the on-time-service; about half my flights have been delayed. Service and seat comfort are mediocre but acceptable but not too much different than the majors. This is coming from a highly experienced traveler that has amassed over 1M frequent flier miles on the major airlines. If your looking for cheap air travel and can travel efficiently, you really can't beat them, but just have the proper expectations.

"never fly with Spirit again"

(United States)

Fiancé and I decided to give Spirit Airlines one more chance so we purchased round trip Houston to Atlanta flights for Christmas. It was advertised as almost $150 cheaper then other airlines but with all the baggage charges it ended up that we only saved $10. The best part is that they cancelled both flights! On Christmas Day they cancelled 2hrs prior to leaving - Spirit Airlines Customer service could not help up- we ended up calling a third party to book a flight. Returning we arrive at the airport 2 hrs early - flight was to start boarding at 3:07pm - nothing - no plane - no announcement. 3:15pm still no plane, no announcement. 3:24pm plane arrives and people are heading to the gate. 3:30pm someone says "it's canceled" - still no announcement. 3:40 an announcement we have to go back to ticketing. We called Spirit to see if we they could assist - they didn't even attempt to see if any of their partner airlines had any opening - if we wanted a refund over the phone it would cost us an additional $50 to talk to someone! Even though spirit refunded our flight it costs us an additional $650 for extended hotel, car rental, pet boarding, parking and we both ended having to take extended vacation days. We will never fly with Spirit again.

"the worst airline"

(United States)

Spirit Airlines is by far the worst airline. They profess to have cheap flights thus justifying excessive add-ons such as purchasing your seat and paying for carry-on luggage. However, this is far from the case. By the time you purchase all of the add-ons, which are complimentary on other airlines, you are paying nearly $300. This airline is overly cheap and will never get my business again. While I understand rules are rules and policies are in place to maximize profits, it is truly asinine what they charge you for. Their policies make them look cheap and self-centered. I have yet to come across someone that has something positive to say about this airline.
