Our flight from Houston IAH to Las Vegas was cancelled. I agree the weather was bad - but the way Spirit handled the situation was absolutely horrendous. To be clear - this was to our first time to fly Spirit Airlines - and we will never use them again. At check in they had 1 person to check in about 70 people. There were 2-3 other people that were in the area, but did not help out until after about 45 minutes - 1 person started helping. Really doesn't sit well when you see the employees talking to other employees while you are standing in line and only 1 out of 4 is actually working. Then, due to the weather, we got delay after delay after delay. Now - the delays came through my phone, but there at the airport - there was nothing. The delay would come through my phone and wouldn't show on the board for almost 45 minutes. And never was there a reason for the delay. Then, the plane showed up, the people on the plane disembark. Several people showed up at the counter, and the delay went from 12:35 to 11:50. At 11:55, the delay went back to 12:10, and after that, then they cancelled the flight due to the pilot/crew timing out. My opinion is that Spirit knew the flight was going to be cancelled because they knew the pilot/crew would time out by the time they got to Houston- so, they could have done it hours before. Again only 2 people to handle a plane full of angry passengers and then, they could only offer to re-book people on Tuesday (6 days later) or refund the monies. The 2 people that were there did Not handle the situation very well either - had bad attitudes. Never once did I hear an apology from them. I ended up calling the 801 number and could not hear the person very well. I had the volume up at the highest - and kept telling the lady to please speak up but she didn't. I had prepaid my parking and my hotel separately - and was not reimbursed for those expenses. I will never use Spirit Airlines again!

Spirit Airlines from Detroit to Tampa, an on time departure. Very friendly staff, comfortable seats and awesome price. Easy online navigation. The only negative thing I would say would have been the prices of snacks and pop / drinks for sale onboard - they were VERY expensive. Definitely will fly Spirit again.

"have been a nightmare"

I have tried Spirit Airlines more than two times and both times have been a nightmare for me and my family. Spirit advertises cheap air fare but them charges ridiculous fees for everything. I would be ok with fees if my flight actually departs at a reasonable delay time. Only three times I flew this airline and all of those the flight was delayed for more than 3 hours. Their customer service is less than mediocre. They withhold delay information and customers are only left wondering whether they will travel or not. Even when they know that the flight will be delayed for several hours, they still require passengers to arrive at least 60 minutes before the original departure time.

Departed 2 hours late, seats do not recline, prepare to be uncomfortable. No drinks or snacks served without ordering and paying for them. Charges for all bags carry on too. Offer lower cost for bags if paid before check in, but only if done online, if you call they will charge considerably more. After doing the survey post flight they have yet to contact me or make any apology. We paid extra to pick our seats yet on return flight they had given our seats to someone else that did not want to sit in the emergency exit row. I will never fly with this airline again.

"most dysfunctional airline"

Portland to Las Vegas. Delayed, overcharged for baggage. Difficult to use web site. This is the most dysfunctional airline I've ever flown. Never again. Thought I would save money, no way with all the ups hidden. I haven't even gotten on the plane yet. Delayed 3 times now.

"charges for everything"

Worst airline in twenty years of flying. Huge charges for everything including carry on. Terrible staff. Unreachable live customer service on shady automated phone line. Their website is even worse and keeps trying to upsell additional services through obnoxious and constant popups on the checkout screen. Had a flight this morning. They boarded us and then promptly had us exit because of an engine issue (which should have been fixed prior to boarding). An hour later, they cancelled the whole flight. Was not able to obtain alternative flight, was not refunded for entire $152 I paid, and ended up missing an important meeting and losing on $104 in taxi money to and from the airport.

"cheap but you pay the price"

When we got to the airport we found out our flight was cancelled. It took us two hours to rebook it. They had only one counter opened to Rebook the entire flight. The duration of the flight was 8 hours instead of 4.5 hour not to mention 8 hour wait for connecting flight. Total of 16 hours I could have gone to India in less time than that. Coming back we boarded the plane only to find out there was no pilot. We had to wait for almost two hours in the Plane while the pilot arrived. From Vegas to Detroit plus two hours extra in the plane no one gave any snacks or even offered water . Very poor services. Price was cheap but you sure pay the price.

I brought a small carry on, didn't understand that it had to be backpack size. So I was charged sixty-five dollars. The women at the gate said she was giving me a break she could have charged me hundred. So instead of my trip costing me $137.00 I paid an additional $65.00. I should have taken Southwest I would have paid the same and had two checked bags free. And my purse would not have been a personal item. Unless you are buying a nine dollar ticket, Spirit Airlines is not worth taking.

We booked our flights on Spirit Airlines four months in advance and 8 hours before our flight from Houston to Orlando (7am flight), they cancelled. They couldn't get us on a flight until the next day (all other flights for that day were already booked, obviously) and they don't apparently have relationships with other airlines to be able to put us on another flight with another airline. We had a bachelorette party planned, reservations made and they did nothing to help. The options were - get a Spirit Airlines credit and use it later (fat chance I'd ever use that airline again), get our money back (but booking another roundtrip flight on such short notice would have increased the price of the ticket 4 times), or fly out the next day. They were so unapologetic. I will never use Spirit Airlines again.

"5+ hours in the airport"

Spirit Airlines cancelled our flight from Detroit to Las Vegas 2 hours before the departure time. We had to stand in a line for well over 2 hours. At which time we were informed, they had no available flights. The attendant had us re routed out of Cleveland which is a 2.5 hour drive. Sadly the attendant knew I was driving my own car down. She did not offer to provide transportation. Unfourtantely, the frustration from the cancellation and 2 hour wait along with the anxiety to get to our destination took over. The realization of the situation set in on the drive. Our return flight was at our original airport yet my car was at the other airport. When I phoned Spirit, they wanted me to pay an additional $315 to change flights. Calling back a few hours later, the attendant rerouted us for free, rectifying part of the problem. We arrived 2.5 hours early to be informed that flight was cancelled. They booked us on a later flight. Now we are waiting for 5+ hours in the airport when we could have stayed at hotel. How is it possible to have two flights in 72 hours cancelled. The price was cheap but no worth it at all. Stress, frustration, long, long wait. Not worth the hassle or headache. Will fly Delta next time.
