Philippine Airlines

Generally good service and comfortable flight purchased ticket on Philippine Airlines where the website stated it included a meal. This was a small packet of peanuts and soft drink! This does not represent good value when compared to the other budget airlines operating in the Philippines. Flights are often delayed cancelled or simply amalgamated with flights of their sister airline Phil Air Express.

SGD-MNL. Check-in was fast and the ground crew were friendly. The plane took of with a 10 min delay. The food was really good and were provided with blankets for the night flight.

LAX-MNL-CEB-MNL-LAX. Flight to MAN from LAX was very uneventful food was passable refurbished 747-400. Comfortable seats good friendly service. MAN-CEB on a refurbished 747-400 good service again although they do not let you use your cell phone while waiting for pushback. Return trip from CEB-MAN used the new 777 it was spacious seats were comfortable and aircraft was clean. MNL-LAX plane delayed 30 mins in MAN 747 was not refurbished stuffing coming out of seats plane had to divert to Sapporo Japan to fix ventilation system but the staff were friendly in helping us with the problem.

Departing for Narita on B777. Smooth check-in. Nice plane. Clean cabin but the seating scheme is awkward! Less choices of magazines. Nice food and attendants however music and movies need updating.

Aircraft interior was aged and in serious need of upgrade. Inflight entertainment system was old screens were colourless and almost impossible to see. Inflight safety instruction via said screens could not be seen from where I was sitting. Cabin temperature was hot and humid complaints to cabin staff were ignored. Food quality and service was very bad for an international carrier. Service is lax and uninterested.

PVG-MNL. Nothing great and nothing bad. Typical Philippine airline equipment problem my foot rest had been broken for a while. Entertainment was by a large screen and poor choices of entertainment. It seems it is the little things that dog this airline in addition to the chaos of going to MNL airport.

Sydney to Manila return flight Manila-Melbourne-Sydney. Plane delayed in Sydney due to a problem loading cargo. Aircraft on both trips A340 no personal screens but radio was great and entertainment on overhead screens decent. Plane comfortable and spacious compared to A330. Food was good. More than enough food on return trip. Cabin and lavatory very clean. Staff friendly. Inflight magazine interesting plus exclusive terminal in Manila is convenient. Both flights were pleasant.

SGP-MNL-LAX. All except one flight was delayed. Did not really like the A320. A bit to small and only had overhead screens. Boeing 747 was a lot better. Interior was new and had personal TV screens. Flight to LAX even took off 10 mins early. Overall I think PAL should just refurbish their airbus A320's to the ones like the Boeing 747. Terminal 2 should also be expanded and renovated.

I flew to Manila and return to Australia on the 25 Jan. On my trip back to Australia we left Manila at 9 am and arrived Sydney at 8 pm - we had one main meal all day and a snack before we landed Sydney. I paid $2000 for my return airfares to Manila and I ended up hungry. I think we pay enough airfares to be served a decent amount of food. There was also a mix up with my seat I checked in at 5 am only to find somebody else sitting in my seat however in the end staff sorted it out.

MNL-CGK-MNL. Terminal 2 check-in was fine though Jakarta was very slow. On time departures and arrivals on all flights. Food and drinks choices were okay. All in all okay flights the price was nothing special.
