Cathay Pacific Airways customer review

I travelled Nagoya to Hong Kong - plane and service were good. However flight from Hong Kong to Auckland was very disappointing. We sat on the plane waiting for about an hour before it could take off. Flight attendants were slow to offer refreshments. I had to ask for a drink as the middle section of the row where I was sitting missed out despite people in front and behind getting drinks. No apology. The guy next to me asked for a water as well which he got at the same time as I got my drink and he asked for a water for his wife next to him which she never got. Overnight no one came around offering water and I had to press the crew service button for someone to take my breakfast tray away as we were descending in to Auckland. There was a good selection on IFE but it would've been better if there were more comedy films - most seemed to be drama and the controls were old school with the remote rather than touch screen and it wasn't clear how to adjust the volume or screen brightness. The information screen on the IFE didn't explain this info I had to read through the inflight magazine in the seat pouch. Very disappointing flight and end to an otherwise enjoyable holiday. I won't be flying long-haul via Cathay Pacific again.

Two trips - LHR-HKG-ICN in April return and one way from ICN-LHR in May - all in Business. First return trip was perfect - 10/10. Very comfortable business class seat and bed good food and attentive service. Only improvement could be to the choice of movies. First trip from ICN-LHR was particularly noteworthy as the first leg was 2.5 hours late due to a thunder storm in Seoul - flight landed in HKG 10 mins after CX255 was supposed to leave but Cathay held that flight which was very impressive and lucky. The ground staff were excellent. The ICN-LHR trip in May was not so fortunate. Due to ATC restrictions over China all flights to Europe were subject to creeping delays - i.e. 30 mins at a time. With the exception of our flight all flights boarded and eventually left - some were up to 4 hours delayed. For some reason CX255 was the only flight not called for boarding and eventually after 5am (4h30m after scheduled departure) the board stated it was est at 0900 the reason being the mandatory crew hours had been reached. I suspect the decision to hold our flight was more about aircraft rotation as that particular aircraft sits on the ground at LHR for 12 hours so effectively CX255 withstand a long delay without suffering a knock on impact to Cathay's schedule. Eventually the flight took off at 0945. Whilst I accept the delay itself was not under Cathay's control the decision to withhold CX255 was not communicated and all passengers were made to wait in the terminal through the night without any offer of accommodation. When on board the flight was perfectly comfortable but my previously flawless image of Cathay's service levels is now tainted.

CX101 25 May HKG-SYD Airbus 330 Seat 60C. 4 cabin crew members for the whole economy aisle working in pairs. Heavy rain rocky climb so service started later than usual. Crew members working in pairs efficient co- ordinated yet courteous. In the 2nd meal service passengers asleep were woken up gently so as to revert seat back for passengers behind them to eat. Only 5 toilets for the whole economy section. Food of course meagre it is economy class. Seat pitch acceptable. Enjoyable flight. All needs catered for. Due to it being an overnight flight did not try the IFE opted for some sleep instead. Noticed there was no overhead air flow outlet control cabin temperature acceptable.

CX110 SYD to Hong Kong on way to Macau 17/5 and return CX 161 on 22/5. Great flight attentive cabin crew clean plane good food and beverage offerings. My first time with Cathay and an enjoyable experience. Lie back seats were interesting. My first experience. Only drawback supposed to leave HKG at gate 67 but changed to Gate 34 thats not a problem except that we were in the CP lounge and no one bothered to tell us. Fortunately one of us went outside to check and found the change. Apart from that oversight a good experience.

Two of us flew premium economy over a two month period from LHR-Hong Kong HK-Sydney Perth-Hong Kong and Hong Kong-London. Cathay are to be commended on allowing customers seat selection long before you fly at no cost (unlike BA). Staff make this airline - plenty of them attentive smiling and enjoying their job. Throughout the flights the staff are very responsive to any request from your seat for food or assistance. Dinners/lunches are excellent with perfect fish & steaks a great selection of wines/beers and an open galley with a full selection of snacks fruit and drinks. Breakfasts offer a good selection of fruit yoghurt roll and western/eastern options but the sausages are awful! Our last leg was delayed badly by horrendous weather in Hong Kong and although the crew made up for it once airborne it would really help passengers if clear concise information was given to the passengers waiting at the gate. This is a problem with all airlines - no information when things go wrong. IFE was very good premium economy seats are very comfortable and sleeping is easy. Toilet in premium economy is very helpful as is priority boarding ahead of economy. Finally the bag drop off in Hong Kong/Kowloon way ahead of your flight is incredibly convenient. Never lost a bag yet! Good luck Cathay Pacific.

I took the Manila to Hong Kong route on 19 May 2015 and return leg on 21 May 2015. This flight is a 90 minute flight per leg. The first leg was delayed by 40 mins while the second leg was delayed by 3 hours. Service is normal. Overall I'd give it a fail for the kind of delay I faced.

Very disappointed. The food was terrible staff didn't remove trays. Toilet on one leg at the front of the cabin had to climb over the four front passengers to get to it. On the other leg toilet shared with economy. The only difference to economy is 8 seats across as opposed to 9 in economy. Not a match on Qantas and not worth the money. Would never fly Cathay Pacific again.

Business class CX135 HK to Melbourne 13 May 2015. We were coming off a 6 hour stopover from London and having spent the time in their Wings lounge. Good amenities and a great shower. The food and drinks selection was great. Tried an Asian soup from the Noodle bar and was nice. Boarding was a breeze and once on board the pampering begun. We had seats 20 D & G in the centre in the smaller rear cabin. Quiet and no through traffic. The service was excellent and the food and wine selection was just as good. Only a 9 hour flight so a quick movie and a few hours of sleep and its another excellent breakfast. One small issue was the head female attendant was very heavy handed on the perfume and I think that in a confined space like a plane very little or no perfume should be worn by staff or passengers as it can really effect people around you. Overall very happy with Cathay Pacific product and would fly with them again.

Flew CX110 SYD-HKG 11 May then KA896 HKG-PVG. Only 40 minutes in transfer between flights. I thought I would miss the connection. On disembarking a sign with the words "Passenger to Shanghai" written with a ground staff grouping all Shanghai bound passengers about 5 of us through security express lane then to boarding lounge. This is where CX/KA shine. Had it not been for their expedient service passengers would not have made such a tight connection within 30 minutes since the arrival flight was 10 minutes late. When arrived at the boarding lounge passengers were lining up for boarding. We could just make it. I wonder if Qantas would do the same. In terms of in flight services very friendly. When asked for an extra drink the attendant would come back with one remembering my seat no. Seat pitch acceptable IFE with much to choose from. It is $ well spent and makes one enjoy being their passenger. I felt being looked after well.

Have used this airline fairly extensively as I live in China but my family are in the UK. Found the experience in Business Class somewhat lacking so switched to another airline for a couple of years before trying Cathay again for convenience. Two Hong Kong - Manchester return flights over a three month period left a very bitter taste. Only allowed a very frugal 30kg of luggage in Business Class the Wing Lounge at HK is dirty with worn out furniture tasteless inadequate food on offer that is infrequently replenished managed by sour faced staff. Only Western type meal on board in Business Class was a very small pizza not what I would call an evening meal and insufficient hot breakfast so I went without. On a return flight Business Lounge at Manchester little more than a pokey airless hole with very little on offer. Small baby in Business that proceeded to scream for around 11 hours of the flight and whilst as a mother I am sympathetic to this I haven't paid a small fortune to listen to this in Business Class. Cathay are one of the most expensive Business Class options yet offer sub-standard menus dismal Lounges inadequate baggage allowance and insufficient attention to Business Class travellers who pay for a service that is decidedly lacking!
