"They’ve gone incommunicado"

(United States)

Trip Verified | I purchased tickets Mar. 17 which had us flying out of PDX and arriving in Cozumel the same day. In Sept. 17, I received an email that AA changed our reservations. It seemed fine since it was a shorter travel time than the original tickets. The a.m. of the flight we arrived to check in at PDX, and during the self-check in, we got a priority slip. We took it to the ticket counter and learned that when AA changed our flights, they did not allow their own “mandatory” 50 minutes for the connection flight. As such, they refused to allow us to catch our connection from DFW to CZM. Keep in mind that this was their mandatory layover time and they made the change that didn’t conform to it! AA was unable to locate a flight that would get us into Cozumel the same day, so we were forced to incur an overnight layover at DFW. To add insult to injury, each leg of each flight they were challenged to allow me and my fiancé sit together. We would have to pay at the ticket gate to move seats. Um, we purchased our tickets at the same time, is it too far of a stretch to consider we might want to sit together! So, for four flights we had to take extra time to “sweet talk” the gate agent into letting us sit together. Unbelievable! Due to the layover resulting from AA’s error, we were forced to incur additional hotel and meal costs, spend time rearranging transfers, contacting the hotel, etc., lost an entire day of vacation time/pay, lost our all-inclusive charges and hotel charge from the hotel in Cozumel, stressed out having to pick up the pieces because of AA’s mistake, and now I’m getting the pleasure of fighting with AA since they are only offering is a $250 flight voucher for each of us. That doesn’t come close to compensating for the time, money, and trouble they caused. And actually, at this point, I wish I were fighting with them. They’ve gone incommunicado. Won’t call when they say they will, won’t return calls. and, who would want vouchers from this joke of an airline? The only silver lining was the accommodating flight attendants. Otherwise, this company ought to be ashamed of themselves. Based on my research, this isn’t a one off.

"spoken to like preschoolers"

(United States)

Trip Verified | The staff at the gate was by far the worst I have encountered in my life. After making an announcement over the PA system that bags could be checked complementary, I walked up to do so. We had 2 bags that we weren't going to need thru the flight, plus our back packs. She looked us up and proceeded to become incredibly rude and told us that we had to empty our carry ons and try to cram everything into our backpacks and throw away our brand new carry-on luggage, or pay $210 to check them. After making the announcement that they would check them complementary. She was not helpful, made my daughter cry because we had to choose if what personal items to keep or throw away. We're moving cross country and have downsized to the point that it fit into our luggage, and now forced to throw away extremely sentimental items and look like fools and spoken to like preschoolers.

"given incorrect information"

(United States)

Not Verified | Harrisburg to Philadelphia. This was the worst experience my husband and I have ever had with an airline. There were consistent delays which then caused issues for us to get to our connecting flight in Philadelphia which was the only flight to Athens. We were given incorrect information by the ticketing department on the phone, which then led us to drive the entire way to Philadelphia. We have spent hours trying to figure out a way to be compensated and they have the worst customer service! We will never use American Airlines again and be sure to make our family and friends aware of the issues they have caused us.

"can’t depend on their security"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Don’t fly this airline if you check in bags. A frequent business traveler flying American for many years up until now. 50% of the times I check in bags they are broken into. These are locked and usally broken into in Dallas. Complained for many years got money back for stolen articles but nothing has changed. American can’t seem to fix the problem. This is my last American flight because I can’t depend on their security.

"very disappointed indeed"

(United States)

Not Verified | Chicago to Rome. American Airlines, never again to be used on a Transatlantic flight. My partner and I traveled from Chicago to Rome on April 8 and even though I was charged almost $200 more to just be seated together on the only few two seaters available on this flight, it turned out to be the trip from purgatory. The FA kept hitting my shoulder all night long as she was walking back and forth down the aisle. I asked if they had a self service cart with juice/water and snacks in the back galley like most civilized airlines do and the told me it was not the case on this flight. The meal was really average nothing to scream alleluia about. I will truly go out of my way to avoid this company when flying overseas. Why do they call this aircraft the Dreamliner? Perhaps if you travel in First or Business - not so in regular economy. Very disappointed indeed.

"I’m stuck here all night"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Worst flying experience I’ve had. First flight was delayed an hour, and instead of accommodating everyone right there, everyone was promised that they would make their connecting flights. Half the plane didn’t. They were just being lazy and didn’t want to provide customer service. I had to wait until I got to Charlotte to reschedule my flight, because of their delay in Montego Bay. I’m 12th in line on standby and have been waiting at the airport for just the hopes of getting a flight. Here I am 8 hours later, stuck in Charlotte. Waiting for the promise of a standby flight, and if I don’t make it onto this flight, I’m stuck here all night. Customer service was the worst experience of my life, and I’m not being overly dramatic. The manager at Charlotte seemed to just direct people away. He didn’t want to help us, even answer basic questions like “Can you connect us to a manager in denver who could help then?” He was indirect, unhelpful, and unsympathetic to the entire situation. Will never fly this airline again.

"drive to Miami the next time"

(United States)

Not Verified | Miami to Denver. Our flight was to leave Miami at 8:25 p.m on a Monday. When we got to our gate at 7:00 p.m we were told to go to another gate halfway across the airport because our gate had be changed. After going to the new location and seating there for about 45 minutes. We were told that our gate had changed back to the gate we were originally at. Finally we get to board the plane around 8:45. The pilot comes over the intercom and says "please take your seats we only have 6 minutes before our crew times out. At this time the fuel truck had just pulled up. After about 10 minutes. The pilot comes back on the intercom and tells us that the crew has times out and that they were not going to be able to fly us to Denver. So the pilots exit the plane. 10 minutes later the flight attendant come on and say "we have a new fight crew on the way and we will be leaving as soon as they get here". 45 minutes to an hour later after sitting on the plane she comes back on only to tell us that there was no new crew and we needed to get off the plane. Now it's around 11:00-11:30. After about an hour of sitting at the gate waiting to hear of any updates. They tell us there's a new fight crew is coming and we would be leaving as soon as they arrived and do there pre-flight checks. So around 12:15 or so the new crew starts to arrive. First 1 pilot, 20 minutes later another pilot, 20 later the engineer comes. I guess. They tell us we will be taking off shortly. Around 1:15 a.m or so. They tell us the the flight attendants have now timed out and our flight would be canceled. It's funny now but not really. They then tell us that we have to go back to the other gate to rebook our flights out. Luckily for us we knew the number to call for rebooking. So we were able to get on the next flight out at 6:45 Tuesday morning. My wife tells me today that they gave her a $100 voucher. Not only did they know they were going to have to cancel the flight but they were dishonest and didn't have to decency to tell us the truth. I have not received anything for them nor do I care to. I will drive to Miami the next time if that's the only way to get there is on American Airlines. They can keep their $100 voucher. If you have any other means of getting to where you need to be I would suggest you use it.

"surprisingly wonderful experience"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Dallas to Kona. A surprisingly wonderful experience. It is truly a pleasure to say that everything about this trip was wonderful. They are using an internationally configured aircraft on this seasonal route so the comfort factor was a wow.The attendants were lovely, gracious and efficient in a way that I haven’t experienced with American in a long time. The catering wasn’t great but sufficient and due to the aircraft type wi-fi and entertainment were top notch. Although I know it is not common on American to experience a ride like this so I felt it was important to give credit where it was due.

"Horrible layover experience"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Dayton to Tricities via Charlotte. Horrible layover experience in Charlotte, NC. Incoming Flight delay in Dayton, then they had to change a tire, then we had to wait 15 minutes for a staff member to board. I was okay with the delays but when arrived in Charlotte my connecting flight was delayed too. We arrived 10:47, delayed connector was at 10:50 "I'll never make it". So I asked a floor manager to check if the flight was still there, they said it left, it's was 10:50. Come to find out, it didn't leave until 11:03. I could've made it. Then they stuck me in the economy lodge, filthy, nasty and downgraded my seat on the next days flight. First time laid over overnight.
