"friendly, helpful, and attentive"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Dallas to Reykjavik. American Airlines did a wonderful job in business class. The flight attendants were friendly, helpful, and attentive. The food was excellent especially the salmon. The movie selection was great. Sound system was wonderful. They kept the toilets clean. I normally use foreign carriers when in business, but I have no complaints about this airline. Plus they arrived on time.

"substandard airline in all aspects"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Salt Lake City to Dallas Ft Worth. Horrible service with very old planes and high prices compared to competitors. My last 4 flights with AA were delayed due to something being broken on the plane. Previous flight was first class and no TVs in the first class cabin. American Airlines planes always seem to be dirty and I need to wipe down the seat and tray areas personally. Definitely a substandard airline in all aspects. Online checkin / boarding pass system is often broken.

"No issues whatsoever"

Trip Verified | Phoenix to Reykjavik via Dallas Ft Worth. Great experience with this airline traveling to Iceland and return. No issues whatsoever. Lounges in Dallas were great, especially at D terminal, in which it is new.

"no pre-flight drink"

(United Kingdom)

Trip Verified | Chicago to LaGuardia. Check-in was ok, slightly grumpy but warmed up. Security was awful: a supposed priority lane took 45 minutes to clear - the slowest crew ever. Flight was delayed which, I could see, was due to a plane switch. The original incoming plane had landed on time but we then were switched to another. Pushed back about 45 mins late. Crew were invisible so no pre-flight drink whatsoever, whereas both Delta and United offer this service. Drinks eventually came, with a cheese plate which was fine. Arrived at LGA 30 minutes late. The terminal is awful and the Uber parking lot even worse.

"dissatisfied with everything"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Albany to Charlotte. Was talked to like a dog from lady at the gate and then made me check a bag when I was carrying a book bag. Will never fly American again, I asked why and she responded with none of my business. I was not asked if I would like a drink or snack anything, very dissatisfied with everything!

"rude cabin flight attendant"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Miami to Houston. I would like to make mention of the incredible service the passengers in first class have been extended meanwhile the remaining passengers (I paid for priority and am seated in 8F) have to beg the rude cabin flight attendant for water. While I do not expect first class service I do expect to have some level service. The gentleman in first class has exceptional customer service and should be commended as such. I would like to call out specifically the male flight attendant offering service in the back cabin for his rude behavior. When I approached the back of the plane and asked if we could be provided service the woman flight attendant asked what I would like, I stated a glass of wine. The rude male attendant chimes in no wine ... literally that short. So then I say how about a cup of tea, as the plane is cold and we at this point have been boarded since 9:45ish and it’s clear after 10:40 pm- please note our original flight was to land on HOU at approximately 9:45 pm. He states you can have water ... so question one, why ask what I would like and then speak harshly to “the customer.” After another series of it will be another 15-20 minutes, I push the attendant button and ask (again speaking of the rude attendant) if he would ask the captain to make a special accommodation as we were to arrive in HOU at 9:45 pm for a cup of tea. He loudly states, in an inappropriate and quite honestly embarrassing manner to the cabin, she originally asked for alcohol. I do not accept being humiliated or shamed when the airline is at fault for my inconvenience. Flight number AA 2475 was to depart from gate D36 (after arriving from Curaçao (AA 2739). As I reached gate D30, I received a notification that the gate had changed to D10. We arrived at the gate and boarded the plan. Slightly after the plane is fully boarded the pilot comes on and states there are mechanical problems and that it will be about 20-30 minutes. And then states we would need to deboard. In the terminal we are told that we would have some information no later than 11 pm. I ask to be moved to the 10:05 pm flight and the gate agent tells me it would be better to stay on this flight as they were going to take the 10:05 pm plane and give it to us. This later proved to be false. I have so little confidence in the American Airlines team. We are then told to go to E9 for immediate departure (9:45 pm). It is now 11:43 pm and every 20 minutes or so we are told that we will be departing. It’s paperwork, it’s pictures. But here is the problem. I’ve asked several times for something to drink. We know it is permissible because the people in first class have had multiple rounds of cocktails. So tell me water is the only option after several hours, is yet another lie by your very rude flight attendant. While I understand mechanical issues, the problem here is the inconsistent information, half-truths and more importantly the lack of attention given to the passengers not in first class. It wasn't until I asked for the second time that we (non-First class attendants) were even offered water after boarding, deboarding, reboarding and waiting for hours.

"food was good with reasonable choice"

(United Kingdom)

Trip Verified | London to New York. Traditionally I have flown BA first class across the Atlantic but this trip I decided to try American to compare. American check-in was fast and efficient. The President's Lounge was, comfortable with adequate food but not as well-appointed as the BA Concorde lounge. The American open 'suite' (seat) was in my opinion more comfortable than the BA equivalent - they have proper leg rests that BA does not have and the ability to swing the chair onto a working desk if required. The bed was spacious and comfortable. The in-flight food was good with a reasonable choice. The wine list was not impressive but then neither is BA's. Oddly, AA charge first-class passengers for wi-fi connection! In my opinion, there is not a great deal in it but the American seat probably tips the comparison in favour of American in the air but on the ground BA have better lounge facilities.

"flight had been cancelled"

(United States)

Not Verified | Dallas Ft Worth to Guatemala. One day before my flight as I was checking in, I saw the message that said that the flight was overbooked and $175 individual vouchers were offered to anyone with flexible schedules who were willing to change their flight to 2 days later. I was unable to check in online because I was traveling with a minor. The morning of my check-in, I arrived at the airport to find that the gate number on my original receipt was closed and after walking around for 20 minutes we finally arrived at the counter. When we were at the counter, I heard an airport employee say to another traveler that the American Airlines flight had been cancelled. I chose to disregard the airport employee and go to the counter because after all he was not an American Airlines employee and they should know better, right? I checked my bags in, printed my tickets and headed through security. As soon as I arrived I noticed a long line of people waiting to talk to the customer service rep at the gate to re-schedule a flight because the flight had been cancelled due to an "operational decision" whatever that means. I called the customer service line and they told me that I couldn't change the flight with them on the phone that I had to wait for the person at the counter. After 1 hour of waiting, I finally spoke to the person at the gate counter. He printed some "tickets" for me and told me that I had been re-booked to another flight the next day at 1:00 pm. I took his word for it. Later that morning I called the customer service line, because I had a feeling something wasn't right. After I talked to the person on the phone they told me that I wasn't on the 1:00 pm flight that I hadn't been re-booked. I tried to explain that person that I had tickets and an e-mail that said that I was on that flight but she kept telling me that I wasn't on their system. I got upset and asked for a supervisor, she had the same empathetic attitude as the first employee. I asked for my flight to be booked the next day and she was able to find me a flight for the same time as before. When I asked to change my returning flight to the next day in the afternoon she told me that she could price those out for me. I told her that given the circumstances and the fact that it wasn't my problem that plans have changed she should consider changing my flights at no cost. After a lot of back and forth she finally agreed to move my flight. I had to pay for seats on my returning flight because originally, my wife, my daughter and I had seats next to each other. On my departing flight we did not get seats that were next to each other because the flight was full and we had to rely on the generosity of another traveler to allow my wife to seat next to our daughter. We had to pay a very sketchy Uber driver to bring us back home that morning after losing sleep, time and going to tears from our daughter because she wasn't going to see her grandma that day. Our parents had to lose another day of work, lots of sleep and time to bring us to the airport yet again the next day. My mom in Guatemala had to make another 3 hour unnecessary trip to the Guatemalan airport because I didn't arrive on the day I was supposed to. We had to pay more to change our original car reservation because of "high demand" To top it all off my bag was damaged on my returning flight which to be frank I don't even understand how that happened because the bag was damaged from the zipper.

"unprofessional Flight Attendant"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Barcelona to Chicago. Very rude and unprofessional Flight Attendant, in all my years of travelling I have never had any one treat me like that. It started with me saying "excuse me" (because I had a question) She turned around and said in a rude manner "What do you want?" I was shocked and I said "I'm sorry did I catch you at a bad time"? She then raised her voice and in an exasperated tone stated 'what do you need sir' at that point I said "you know what nothing from you" she said "suit yourself" and walked away. things went from bad to worse from there. Another incident was with the food she did not like the way I opened my tray and said "I am not putting up with this I will call the Captain on you" I said "please do call him I would like to speak to him". The FA said " I will call him for me but I am not going to waste his time calling him for you" - she told my wife I was rude, my wife told her she was rude first she walked away.

"They don’t care"

(United Kingdom)

Trip Verified | I flew from London to Greenville via Chicago in July with five children (one being only 2 years old) when we arrived from London in Chicago, our flight was delayed twice and then cancelled. How did I know it was cancelled? The staff at the desk unplugged the monitor and went home. Already having been delayed twice we had been sitting in the airport for a while. I couldn’t move easily because the airline had my stroller. I couldn’t find a member of staff to help me or advise me at all. No idea when my rebooked flight would be, where I would sleep the night. Legally I couldn’t really leave the airport without a car seat so I’m stuck in a town I don’t know, with five tired children snd not one single member of staff to assist. I don’t even know when the next flight will be ! This is disgusting service. I had to go find a taxi that would take us without a car seat, help me find a hotel that could accommodate and pay for this all myself. When I complained to the airline they said they take no responsibility for anything that happens to passengers if they cancel a flight. So I highly recommended never flying with this airline as you could just get left mid flight in a random location without any support or assistance. And guess what!? They don’t care!
