Were very close on time arrived 10 minutes before check-in closed but still able to check-in just before check-in closed. Shuttle busses all the time which take around 10 minutes to Terminal 3. Passport control very easy and just after check-in. You can avoid the shops and walk straight to gates. Very easy to find with wide walkways and loads of rolling bands. Security check into waiting room was not so pleasant 5 minutes waiting time but the security guys were rude. On the way home passport control was very smooth but there was a long wait for our baggage.

Antwerp-Bangkok via Amsterdam with KLM. Arriving at the airport was a mess airport staff very rude and unhelpful. We had to queue for 2 hours at check-in. We were then brought to another check in were they told us we had 5 minutes to get to the gate. We ran to the gate and just made it (last passengers to board). To top it all off the plane didn't move for another 45 minutes! Horrible experience will avoid using Schiphol.

If you have a short transit time please avoid this airport. It is very large and there is a lot of walking to do between gates. The worst are the KLM staff who can be extremely unfriendly rude and dismissive when you need their help. Never fly into this airport when there is any delay in Amsterdam due to bad weather or any other unforeseen circumstances because staff can't cope. You will be left stranded for hours or days and they won't bother to help you find hotel accommodation.

JNB-AMS-ORD return. Transferred at Schiphol both ways. This is a very clean and well organised airport. Gates are easy to find with maps and signs everywhere which are easy to understand and follow. There are a number of rest areas with very comfortable seating (especially the ones on the top floor of Terminal 3). They are very quiet and comfortable. The airport also offers shower facilities although I am not sure if there are any free ones. I used the facilities at the Mercure Hotel in the transit area which cost 15 euros but if you are transferring between two long flights the price is worth it. Staff are friendly and helpful. There are decent duty free shops albeit not many. Schiphol is an absolute pleasure to transfer through.

Overall the best airport when it comes to duty free smoking lounges cafes etc. The worst when it comes to immigration staff - expect a 40 min-1 hr wait if travelling outside Europe. Recommended if your layover is long!

Overall it looks clean. The duty free shops are overpriced. Their system can be confusing mixing up arrival and departures. The biggest problem however is the security staff and police. Not friendly and at times arrogant or short tempered. Security is not well organized. In a short transit I would skip this airport. Travelling in Europe there are better options. Due to the very unfriendly atmosphere I would rate this airport poor.

In every other airport we have been in the departure lounge comes after the security checks on people and hand luggage. Therefore at Schiphol we threw away our water and left-over drinks before proceeding into the departure lounge thinking the next step would be the X-ray machines. However the main security checks in this airport are just as you are called to the gate before getting on the plane. Wish we had known. We didn't have a delay but if you do it's nice to know that you are able to keep your own drinks until just before getting on the plane. This does save paying extortionate prices in the departure lounge. Why don't more airports do this? We can recommend Schiphol airport.

Clean and spacious (during the odd hours) toilet facilities are good. Signage is quite good sometimes a bit confusing. Immigration is fairly speedy but can be rude and arrogant depending on the officer. Airport staff is dismissive and has a definite attitude problem. Drink and food prices are extortionate many vending machines are not working. Too few resting areas for the amount of passengers during peak hours there are no places to sit. Getting around can be difficult as the trolleys cannot be taken to lower floors freely.

What a great airport. Staff are helpful and kind it's clean the signage is perfect. Transportation into and out of the airport by train is very easy. They have even got smokers lounges. Recognising reality is a lost trait these days. Clearly Schipol has it's thinking head on. All airports should be like this.

My last experience at AMS was 40 minute transit. Having had boarding pass issued at departure point for the whole connection with no AMS gate number I was trying to find gate number on monitors at the arrival gate - but no monitors! Luckily there was a pool of KLM self service machines where I printed new boarding pass that showed my gate number (the most remote D28). I went there to be searched at the gate and just made my connection. No issues with security staff (polite efficient and competent) no issues with KLM gate staff (nice and were able to track my baggage immediately). No issues with toilets (clean well kept) easy signage lots of KLM self service kiosks. But please put some more monitors at the arrival gate areas!
