"a miserable flight"

(United States)

Not Verified | Newark to Las Vegas. United Airlines has to be one of the worst airlines I have ever flown. They do not care one bit about their customers. They changed my seat assignments for no reason. Was originally sitting with a free seat and moved me. I also paid extra for economy plus. They moved me to a seat before the exit row which didn’t recline. When I called they told me that when you book your flight it tells you that the seat does not recline in the exit row or before and told me you should look carefully next time. Meanwhile, that was not the seat I originally picked but they put me there without my knowledge and when I inquired about it they had told me the flight was full and couldn’t do anything about it. There was no TV on that plane so I purchased the internet for $49 and that didn’t work either and I was told there was nothing they can do. Fifty dollars out the door. What a miserable flight. These people do not care at all. I would never fly United again. That’s what I get for not flying my usual airline. United sucks

"was allowed to 32kg baggage"

(Pakistan)

Trip Verified | Houston to Tulsa. It was a connecting flight with Turkish Airlines and they issued me boarding pass - in Turkish Airlines international ticket was allowed to 32kg baggage. I was having only 27kg but United Airlines charged me 80 USD because of nothing.

"a great flight"

(United States)

Not Verified | Atlanta to Sao Paulo via Washington. We had a great first-time international flight experience! The cabin crew was great and they were very kind. The food was average but the entertainment was great. Thanks for a great flight, United!

"United was wonderful"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Denver to New Orleans via Houston. United was wonderful! I assumed I was flying out of Denver and didn’t look at my ticket. When I arrived at the airport, I figured out I was in the wrong place. I needed to be in Colorado Springs! I explained the situation to ticket agent and they rebooked me flying out if Denver. They were so nice when they didn’t need to be. It was completely my mistake! I really appreciated their act of kindness.

"fine except the food"

(United States)

Not Verified | Paris to San Francisco. Everything was fine except the food, it was an 11 hours flight without any hot meal. Started with breakfast it was beery pudding, grapes and melon and piece of chocolate cup cake. Later after few hours bag of snack cookies, crackers and cheese candy and bag of dry apricot. Later on and after few hours that when I got really hungry I thought now it time for the hot dish I waited and waited then just about one hour and after 10 hrs of flying they served a warm turkey sandwich with a bag of potato chips.

"Recommended for the price"

(Hong Kong)

Trip Verified | I was initially hesitant about booking the flight on United after all the negative media coverage about the airline. However, these fears were very much put to rest. I paid US$825, all-in including taxes, for a round trip journey of 3 legs in each way. HKG-NRT-IAH-LIM & back (ANA codeshare HKG-NRT). Incredible pricing. Despite the aircraft (B767 & B777) being of some age, the widebodies meant that overhead baggage bins were generally sufficient. The planes were also fitted with up-to-date IFE (with a huge selection of the latest movies, no lagging or dead screens), and USB & laptop charging ports. The legroom in economy wasn't the best, but manageable. Recline could be better. (I'm 5"11 or 1.81m and I reckon anyone taller would require their Economy PLUS option), seats were fairly comfortable and I had no problems sleeping 6-7 hours at a go on the 12hr flight and this is in economy. FA service was reasonably hospitable ... but I boarded with low expectations though. Even though we missed our connecting flight due to the flight arriving 3hrs late, the ground staff at Houston was superb and had no hesitation arranging for us to be on the next flight (with a slight upgrade too), and preparing our confirmation of travel delay for insurance claim purposes. On top of that, he put us up in a decent hotel for the night and provided an $80 meal voucher as well. That turned the initially bad experience into a very decent one. It is also worth noting that the checked baggage arrived with no incident. What was lacking, however was: 1) Barely satisfactory selection of food. Meals were not tasty and very bland. 2) Aisle width was very narrow and the FAs and other passengers kept bumping into me even though I was well within my seat and not spilling out. Overall, it's hard to complain at such a price point. Recommended for the price -sensitive leisure traveller.

"service at front desk terrible"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Burbank to San Francisco. A family member bought my flight and I ended up on United Airlines for my return flight home. Couldn't have a carry-on, no disability veteran discount only active duty. In order to update flight, I had to pay a 100$ to cancel before I could even pay to upgrade. Hello upcharge! Needless to say, I didn't upgrade anything. So 30$ to check my carry-on bag haven't had to do that anywhere else. First time flying with United also the last. Customer service at front desk terrible just an unpleasant experience. The plane is nice, the crew are nice, which is the reason I didn't give them a complete failure rating but the damage is done. The flight was not even full so don't see the reason why me upgrading was such an issue. I was willing to pay but not 100$ on top of the upgrade fee so I could at least have my bag with me. Partly my fault for not going with my normal airline and not getting the ticket myself. Live and learn! United Airlines does not seem to be disabled veteran friendly.

"never fails to be absolutely awful"

(United States)

Trip Verified | United never fails to be absolutely awful. Several years ago, I flew United from Columbus, OH to London. I flew out of Columbus to Chicago. Right as I was about to board the plane to Chicago, we got delayed.... four hours because of a problem with engine. By the time I got to Chicago, I missed my connection to London. United put me in a hotel for the night in a hotel where the AC was broke and it was the end of June. The next morning I had to fly from Chicago to DC to take another connection. That flight went fine. But my flight from DC to London got delayed because of an issue with navigation. Navigation! We’re flying across the Atlantic Ocean and there’s a navigation problem?! By the time I got in to London all transportation had shut down and I had to take a night bus to a stop near my hotel and then walk three miles to my hotel in the middle of the night in London. Good news! United forgot my bags in the United States! So at least if I had been robbed I would have had nothing to give them. The next day our bags were supposed to arrive. We waited and waited until we finally figured out they had been delivered to the wrong hotel. I mean can it get an worse?? I emailed United and did I get any voucher or anything from them for all of this? Nope! Just a quick “sorry”. I swore I would never fly United again. Now flash forward to 2019. My mom did not know if my boycott of United and she booked a flight for a family vacation from Columbus, OH to Vancouver, CA. I did not know she booked United until after she booked it. I get on the plane and I was surprised how nice everyone was. I’m thinking, “ok maybe I was wrong all along”. Leave the gate, and as I’m writing this review I will miss my connection from Chicago to Vancouver bc I have been sitting on this airplane on the tarmac because it is delayed! Literally amazing. This is such a terrible airline! In addition to all the plane issues I have had, this week a United passenger took a video of an engine violently vibrating on the wing of one of the planes makes me Columbus to Vancouver via Chicago. Most inept airline in the world and I will never fly United.

"Horrible company, horrible experience"

(Canada)

Trip Verified | South Bend to Winnipeg via Chicago. Here’s my complaint: Was booked for a flight out of South Bend at 0600 (UA5330) and Chicago at 0753 (UA4289) as per confirmation. No info for pre-check-in sent. Upon arrival at SB airport, learned there was no record of me on 0600 flight (which they switched me to) and UA4289 out of Chicago didn’t even exist. Customer service agent at United customer service booth was rude and unhelpful, not allowing me to finish a single sentence and then telling me I haven’t given him proper information. I now have over 6 hours to wait in Chicago, departing 2 hours after I was supposed to land in Winnipeg, no longer have a ride home and will need to work on making other arrangements from long distance, and will be missing an important specialist appointment this afternoon. 1. I want to know how I can be given a confirmation for a flight that doesn’t even exist? 2. Customer service experience in South Bend and Chicago were horrible, your staff need retraining on how to listen and speak to customers. Make sure not to count on the information on your confirmation with this airline - it doesn’t mean boo. Don’t make plans around flights with this company as you may not even be in the same country when you’re due. If you do, make sure to contact them to make sure the flights you’re confirmed for actually exist, and that you’re actually booked on them. Feel free to share with others who fly with United so they don’t get screwed over the way I have. Horrible company, horrible experience.

"wasted two days in transit on this trip"

(Australia)

Not Verified | I flew my parents from Canada to Australia for the birth of my child. Their flight from Washington to LA was delayed and due to land when their flight to Melbourne, Australia was meant to depart. Staff assured my parents that they were going to delay the Australia flight briefly to get the delayed passengers on. My parents explained their situation and were assured they would be let off first and brought to their flight. None of this happened. They were booked on the flight the following day which got them to Australia at the same time as my scheduled c-section. Needless to say, my OB had to push back the birth of my child due to United Airlines. To make matters worse, UA has now cancelled my parents flight from Washington to Ottawa and rebooked them for almost 24 hours later. They have now wasted two days in transit on this trip when the flights are already 27 hours. Ridiculous.
