"unhelpful and downright rude"

Trip Verified | Flying American is always the most painful way to travel. Customer Service is not on the list of priorities. For every one employee trying to do a good job there are three more will be unhelpful and downright rude!

"deserves negative stars"

Trip Verified | This was the worst flight I have ever been on. When we arrived at our gate, the flight to Phoenix Sky Harbor was up on the screen. They proceeded to send flights from our gate to Philadelphia, Miami, Dallas, and then LA before our flight. The departure time went from 1711 to 2117. I suppose that if the standard was "as long as the flight leaves the day listed before 2359..." then they would be doing great. Since my wife and I had commitments and children to get home to, their incompetence deserves negative stars if I could give them that. What they will never admit, is that their "plans" are for nothing to work. They purposefully make a "schedule" that is impossible to execute in order to book as many flights as possible (a.k.a., charge as many people as much money as possible). Then, when the first domino falls out of place (which was easily foreseeable) the whole day of flights is a disaster. In our case, they didn't even get the flight done that night. We had to fly the following day. It is ridiculous that you can buy a ticket and have no reasonable expectation of arriving at your destination unless your flight is non-stop and it leaves first thing in the morning, but that's the way American Airlines has built their system.

"Such a poor class airline that charges so much!"

Trip Verified | We wanted to have a great family vacation but American Airlines didn’t make it possible for us! Also, Miami Int Airport is the worst airport we have ever been! This airport is so unorganized, rude staff and unhelpful! We missed our connecting flight, not once but twice. We had a connecting flight to Ohio, but due to bad weather the airport had to stop any activity to include loading luggage to the carousel. All activities didn’t resume for almost 2 hours and that’s the reason why we missed our connecting flight. I don’t understand why we had to pick up our luggage at the carousel and re-check it again to catch our connecting flight to Ohio because we didn’t have to do the same when we left Ohio to Curacao. If only our luggage bags were transferred to our next plane we probably wouldn't have missed our connecting flight! A lot of people missed their flight as well! By the time we get to rebook it’s already 1am. It took about 4hrs to finally rebook our flight since the line was too long. I understand if the weather is the cause of delay, they won’t pay for our hotel. But at least give us some food vouchers! We ended up paying for our hotel and food because the next flight won’t be until the next evening. The second problem is coming back from Ohio to Curacao. Our flight is 45 mins delayed because the staff said it was due to some weather in Miami and that they haven’t heard any go signal from air traffic control from Miami. So by the time we left Ohio and landed in Miami, again we missed our connecting flight. We had to rebook our flight, one of the staff in luggage claim said that the cause of delay is because of the weather in Ohio! We find it odd because the weather there was fine and the weather in Miami is also fine! We had to spend another day in Miami with 3 children (3,4 & 12 y.o) They didn’t pay for our hotel and gave us a $12 food voucher per head for one-time spending! I appreciate that but come on! We paid about $4,000+ for our flight and twice our flight got messed up. Also, we had to be seated at the very back of the plane, they only serve 1 cracker, no blanket and you had to use your own device for entertainment! Such a poor class airline that charges so much! For a multi-million $$ company, that’s all you can give? On our return flight, we believe it was rubbish is to use the weather as an excuse so the company won’t pay for our accommodation. It seems like there was a mechanical issue for the cost of delay. Because obviously, they start pointing fingers as to where the bad weather is at! Shame on you American Airlines! I will never ever fly with this airline and I will never ever choose Miami Int airport again!

Trip Verified | Kaira, at Gate B17 at 2130 was a great help. She worked all day, but was still respectful. A colleague and I had a last minute work trip and missed our prior flight. When we arrived, there was no one at the any of the blue change flight kiosks. She took our standby tickets and gave us actual seats. Care and kindness are a dwindling commodity in our current post pandemic society. She did a great job and is a great reflection of the atmosphere of her organization. Thank you for your humanity.

"canceled for the same reason"

Not Verified | I had reservations to fly out of San Diego yesterday but my connection was canceled (supposedly for weather). Then my flight for today was canceled for the same reason. I now have a flight for tomorrow. Anyone want to take the odds that this flight will actually happen? I give it 20%. If you don’t have to fly American Airlines don't. I had upgraded seats that they will not honor. I kinda hope they cancel tomorrow’s flight so I can fly with a real airline. Do you think they offered a hotel room or meal tickets? Not a chance.

"flight was cancelled again"

Trip Verified | My flights were cancelled once. The airline booked it again. As we were boarding the flight on the next day, the flight was cancelled again. So I decided to get a rental car and drive 12h just to make sure I'd eventually reach my destination. They refunded $20 of a $140 tickets. No compensation for hotels or rental car whatsoever. Very unhelpful on the phone.

"Unacceptable treatment and unreasonable accommodation from AA"

Not Verified | Who cancels an 8.20 am flight and notifies you at 12.30 by text while you are deep asleep (8 hours before the flight) and moves the flight up to 6.30 am the same day? Of course we missed that flight. To add insult to injury, the non-stop became a red-eye with a 4 hour layover in ORD. The trip to PHL was changed from business class to economy with our two seats scattered in the wind. Can’t even fly together. Extra hotel charges, baggage fees for economy status, extra transportation costs plus an unexpected extra day of travel. Unacceptable treatment and unreasonable accommodation from AA.

"I lost 1 week of my 3 weeks vacation here"

Trip Verified | Flight cancelled and delayed multiple times, shifted connecting flight to 5 days later! My flight from PDX to DFW on Sunday was cancelled with an excuse of bad weather. I had connecting international flight and visa interview scheduled in my home country. When enquired, I got to know other airlines were running their flights in the same time frame. I was rescheduled two days later Tuesday. My flight was at 2.00 pm. They cancelled the flight and rebooked me to an earlier flight 12.00 pm. But that flight was also delayed 1 by 1 hour and scheduled at 4.45 pm at last. I would miss my international flight and wanted to cancel the flight. But they said they can't return the check in bags now and I have to wait to get the check in bags in courier if I cancel. In that case I can't take flight from other airlines even. Then they said they will rebook my international flight oj the next day and hurrily pushed me to take the delayed flight. When I reached DFW, I got to know that they rescheduled me for a flight two days later! This is a total disaster for my international travel. I lost 1 week of my 3 weeks vacation here.

"using weather as an excuse"

Not Verified | Cancelled our flight last minute due to "weather". I called friends at our destination and there was a light drizzle and a little breeze. After standing in their "help" line for two hours, they refused to issue us a refund to use with another airline at the airport, refused to accommodate us with a hotel or even food vouchers, and refused to even give back the extra $110 we paid to avoid a layover since their only future options forced a layover. Also refused to book is on another airline. Their customer service line has a 3 hour wait. Their "refund" site only offers store credit. I checked other reviews just in the last week and they've been lying to customers using weather as an excuse to cover up their own inadequacy over and over. This airline has gone down the toilet and I hope they go bankrupt.

"flight attendant didn’t have his mask around his nose"

Trip Verified | For the first time in my life I went First Class. I paid a boat ton of money as this was my first travel in covid and I wanted to make sure I wasn’t packed in coach. Turns out American’s First Class is just like coach with slightly larger seats. For an overnight flight across the country landing at 6am we didn’t get a pillow or a blanket. The seats only recline two inches. There is no seat-back entertainment. Also on the flight an attendant didn’t have his mask around his nose. Total nightmare. And no WiFi.
