"Terrible at scheduling"

Trip Verified | My flight was rescheduled to 12:00pm when originally I had it scheduled at 8:30am I got to the airport at 4am and the airline sent an email at 4:23am to notify the delay. I had to wait 8 hours and there’s was other flight that left at 10:30am. No weather issues just business decisions, if the airline can at least notify 12 hours in advance, but they clearly don’t care about people’s plans just their money. I also had a delayed leaving Chicago. Terrible at scheduling and moving things around. Definitely never getting tickets for this airline again.

"by far the worst airline"

Trip Verified | I went to BDL to head to final destination Phuket. I spent 2-3 hours with AA going over all requirements for Thailand government. Staff had a hard time interpreting requirements and wanted me to receive custom letter from my insurance for me to go. Letter received via email from insurance and received the green light to board. Connected in PHL then LAX. At LAX to board Cathay Pacific they told me I do not have all required documents for Thailand but I stated AA suggests I do and they continued to disagree and I had to go back home. Went to AA customer service and rep gave me ticket to go back to BDL but no hotel to stay I had to sleep in the airport at LAX. Left LAX to finally arrive at BDL. One bag arrived successfully but according to AA baggage the other remains in LAX. Made claim with AA baggage rep. I decided to call Cathay who told me the luggage is in Cathay LAX and did not go on plane I am requesting for an overall refund no credit. I traveled for no reason and my luggage did not follow me as it should have. AA baggage rep did not know the bag was with Cathay I happened to call and Cathay and they told me. AA staff should have never let me board the plane if I did not have everything required for Thailand that would’ve saved me time and inconvenience. I am suppose to go somewhere else instead but not I have to wait for my luggage to arrive. This is by far the worst airline I have traveled with. My birthday trip has turned into the worst days ever thanks to American Airlines.

"Spare yourself the aggravation"

Not Verified | Do not ever fly on this airline. They have the rudest, worst customer service ever. They will not let you pick your seat and when you call about it, they are rude and unhelpful. Two days fighting to get a seat assigned. Do Not, I repeat, Do Not, fly on this airline. Spare yourself the aggravation. Don’t give them money, no matter how inexpensive their offer is. It is not worth it. Reward airlines who are doing it right. They are a disgrace to the airline world. You have seen the videos of them kicking paying customers off planes for speaking up and demanding what they paid for. Do not reward this behaviour.

"fly with any other airline"

Not Verified | This airline has the absolute worst customer service that I have ever encountered! This company cares nothing about the customers, and after repeated issues with them over the past four months, I will never fly with them again! Every level of customer service has been terrible, from the airport level to the corporate level. Despite the huge hit the airline industry has takes due to covid, the majority of flights that I have taken with American since September 2020 (approximately 25 flights) have been problematic. They have cancelled countless flights, the staff has been outrageously rude and speaking with a representative is almost impossible. I have had flights cancelled and rescheduled, through no fault or choice of my own, and in doing so have been downgraded from business class and refunded next to nothing. Corporate does nothing and cares only about the financial bottom line, with no thought to the customer experience. Do yourself a favor— save yourself the time, money and stress, and fly with any other airline other than American!

"its all about the money on those lousy planes"

Not Verified | Wonderful plane. Very big and roomy. Not full. Flew from Cancun to Dallas Fort-Worth. Great trip in no time at all. Then transferred to an Airbus to Seattle. Horrible trip. Small uncomfortable plane. Last row in back. Could smell bathrooms and exhaust from plane. Poor flight attendants are stuck back there as well, can't be healthy for any of us, its all about the money on those lousy planes.

"It was truly appalling and gross"

Trip Verified | I use American Airlines because they are the only airline that has a non-stop flight from San Diego to Miami that allows unattended minors. I fly my two young teenagers back and forth from their Mother to me their Father. Recently (November) we arrived to the airport 2.5 hours early as requested. Once I got up to the counter to check them in, I told the attendant that my two minors were 12 and 14 and were flying unattended. She gave me a dirty look and said, "where are their ID's?". I explained to her again they were minors and did not have an ID. She goes, "where is their paperwork you are supposed to fill out?" I told her she had it and I always filled it out at the counter because it wasn't available online. She glared at me and then got the paperwork and handed it to me. I asked her if she had a pen I could use. She goes, "We're in the middle of a pandemic, we don't have that stuff" I told her I didn't bring one because I wasn't sure if I could take it through security and it had never been a problem in the past, I've flown them many times since the pandemic started. She scolded me again for not having a pen and then stormed off. I don't know where she went but she came back about 5 minutes later. She then turned to the attendant at the next counter and asked to borrow her pen. The attendant handed her a pen and she gave it to me. I filled out the paperwork and gave it back to her. She printed the gate pass for me and the boarding passes for my two children. She has them in her hand and then says, "Oh we have a problem here", "You haven't paid for their trip". She was dead serious. I immediately pulled up my email with the trip confirmation and receipt. She didn't even look at it but goes, "ok". Then hands me the passes. I feel like this woman was intentionally trying to bait me into causing a scene or getting mad and yelling (I felt like it on the inside but wasn't gonna give her the satisfaction). My two children were right there next to me watching all of this. When they fly out it's already a sad and nervous time for them because they are flying alone and leaving their father. It was truly appalling and gross. This kind of behavior is not acceptable. This women made it 10 times worse for them and just left a really bad vibe. I was polite to her from start to finish for the sake of my children. If i didn't ever have to use AA ever again I wouldn't Unfortunately I am stuck. The tickets are not cheap either they cost me between 1200 and 1500 for a round-trip.

"the worst experience traveling I’ve ever had"

Not Verified | My fiancé and I traveled from Newark to Miami to curaçao. Once we got to Miami, an American Airlines associate assured us that we didn’t need to pick up bags because they will automatically be transferred to our connecting flight. Well that did not happen. One of our bags made it to Curaçao and the other bag was left in Miami. So my fiancé was in a 5-star all inclusive expensive resort without his bag! He was without his clothes, hygiene products, money, shoes, and more for a day and a half before it was delivered to our resort. We spent hours in hours on the phone only to be met with rudeness and nastiness from their employees. They was giving us a run around trying to figure out where exactly his bag was. Or first 2 days on vacation we spent most the time making phone calls and trying to locate the bag. Once the bag arrived in Curaçao they gave it to a driver to deliver to us with no name, number, or way to know how long it will take to get our bags. He eventually came at 10pm that night. Thats just the beginning!! On our way back, we reached Miami from Curaçao on American Airlines with a connecting flight to Newark. Once we landed , the plane was stationed on the runway for at least 30mins. When we deplaned, we ran to our connecting flight, not wanting to be late, and we forgot to recheck our bags through immigrations. (Good thing we didn't) After running the whole way to the gate for our plan, they started to give seats away and the seat we paid for was giving to another passenger. When i asked the associate why and what was going on, he quickly said what he said. I asked him to repeat himself because i didn't understand and he totally ignored me and my fiancé. So we missed our connecting flight due to American Airlines deplaning us so late when they know they have passengers with connecting flights. If we were to stop and recheck our bags to immigration, we would have still been late to the gate and our bags would’ve been on the flight but not us. We asked for a manager, in which the associate became more nasty and rude. This Airline will never get another dollar from me! This was the worst experience traveling I’ve ever had.

"Delayed each leg of the journey"

Trip Verified | Delayed each leg of the journey. The Miami to Detroit flight was delayed while in the airport we were moved to another terminal waited another hour, boarded the plane and then pilot and copilot announced their allotted flight time was up and walked off the plane. Sat in the plane another hour waiting for a new crew and then had to wait another 30 minutes for them to go through flight preparations. This delay also cost me another day of parking costs. Flight attendants only came around once to offer a glass of water. Stay away from this airline

"horrible customer service"

Trip Verified | The absolute worse! My flight was delayed for over 7 hours. With no explanation, compassion or assistance. I have a surgery scheduled for the 8th December, 2021 in Miami and that’s the only reason why I booked with AA. I don’t understand how this airline is able to do as they please without any legal recourse to its passengers. I will never book with this airline again. Absolutely horrible customer service as well. Such a scam!

"a great asset to this company"

Not Verified | I want to thank Dwayne, he was working at the kiosk helping people with their tickets. I had back surgery and this gentleman was able to change my seat because I cannot walk a lot. The person that was supposed to help me with the wheelchair never came and he just took me to the plane without waiting for nobody. I think he is a great asset to this company. My flight was AA 952 on Dec 6, 2021 from Philadelphia to DFW. Love people like this gentleman.
