With the exception of one particularly friendly flight attendant, Spirit Air bites the big one! The staff was rude, the planes cannot keep a schedule, and the boarding process is completely disorganized. Their fares may seem low, but remember that you cannot select a seat without a fee, you cannot even get a sip of water to take medicine without a fee. Checking bags is $40-$50 per bag. Fine, we'll carry on our luggage. Wait, not so fast, everyone else has the same idea and you must gate check your luggage then still go through baggage claim. This is a great way to loose your bags (trust me, I have flown enough to know). My bags got there just fine, but why not let me check them at the ticket counter for free if I can check them at the gate for free? We "saved" about $150 per ticket on our trip to Colombia. In hindsight, I would pay an extra $200 each to not fly Spirit again.

Spirit now has a new scam! They don't list their Big Front Seat anymore so there is no way to book a flight using that. They do however tell you once you book a flight you can see if there is a Big front seat available. No Price, no guarantee that it's available and of course once you book and find no Big Front seat they will charge you $100 each ticket to change the reservation. These people must stay up at night figuring ways to scam the consumer!

Spirit Airlines cancelled our flight to Cancun 3 hours before we were to leave. We had booked an all inclusive hotel for the week. Spirit offered no help in trying to rebook with another airline, or give its customers any other choices to salvage their vacations. We were unable to get another flight and ended up having to cancel our whole trip. This was terribly disappointing, and not something we could have planned for. There was a total lack of help or caring from Spirit airlines. We will never fly with Spirit, nor will we ever recommend their services.

Spirit just cancelled our flight to Florida. 3 hours before takeoff. So now we lose a day for the break. They offered a voucher for 100.00 dollars. Big deal I told them what they could do with that voucher. I will never again use Spirit Airlines.

I was a little nervous to try Spirit after reading a lot of negative reviews and worrying that a $29 fare had to be too good to be true. It was a very positive experience overall. My husband and I were able to fly to Fort Lauderdale for less than half the cost it would have been for one of us on any other airline. Yes the seats are a little tight and they charge you to check your bags (so does every other airline except Southwest now), but the flight was on time and the price made it a lot easier to put up with any minor incoveniences.

Three times, three delayed flights. I was able to get on AA the first time and got there 6 hours late. The second time I was 7 hours late. I haven't left yet this time, held hostage at ORD and suspect the flight will be cancelled. The staff is nice, polite and friendly, but I'm cured. I'll pay the extra $100 on another airline to get there on time. I flew Southwest in the early days and didn't have this problem. This airline is for folks whose time doesn't matter.

When I first saw the $9.00 fare club thing I didnt even check into it because I have long learned you get what you pay for and if it is too good to be true then something is wrong. But when visiting friends asked us to come see them we laughed and I tried to book one of those flights. Much to my surprise, I got the prices quoted. There were add ons such as all those airport fees but such is the same with all airlines. We arrived very early for our flights. Everything went perfect. I again used them at half the price to visit my daughter. My husband got deathly sick the night before and was in the emergency room as I was on way to the terminal not knowing if I might have to turn around and come home. After finding out it was just a virus and he would be fine I checked in and called customer service to cancel his flight. It was a foreign sounding guy who although was hard to understand was wonderful. He gave us credit for most of my husbands ticket. So I have now flown from Florida to Boston and Las Vegas with nothing but excellent customer service and flights at absolutely wonderful prices. What I get is nice people, good service, on time flights, normal size seating (seats are not any smaller than other airlines), and who cares about no free soda & pretzels - I buy whatever I want at the terminal and bring it on the plane. Sure you cant be picky with the days and flights but at that price who should care about that! This is one of the best travel deals out there! Sign up for the "free spirit" and get their sale emails - if you see what you can use then pay the $40.00 for the $9.00 fare club - you will probably get that back with your first trip.

I have flown enough on spirit to rack up 45,000 SpiritAir miles and a $9 club member. I have had to fly the Caribbean and Florida (Live near Tampa) once or twice a month. Only once did I miss a connection and I had to wait in FLL for half a day for the next flight. I got work done (Free Internet, thank you) and Spirit bought me lunch, not bad. That said, the flights were as smooth as possible, some delay from time to time but I always got there. I purchase the big front seats when the price isn't much more (I am a large guy). But there is more room in the regular seats than on AA (I don't fit in there well.) I always carry on so never pay extra. Buy a water or soda at the airport and enjoy the savings. If you book early enough they have some great fares!

Do not accept vouchers from Spirit - they do not honor their commitment. In exchange for giving up our "big front" seats for standard seats on the same flight, we accepted $100 travel vouchers for each seat that could be used towards a future flight. In retrospect, the alarm bells were going off and I didn't notice, that is the person who called us offering this deal would not confirm things in writing. When we went to use the codes he had provided for these so-called vouchers, the codes wouldn't work. We called Spirit with very unsatisfactory results. We had negotiated an extension of the expiry date when the agent called, but this wasn't showing in their system. We asked to speak to a supervisor, but weren't able to. We were told to send an e-mail to their customer relations department, but they wouldn't give us a contact name. When we used the e-mail connection on the Spirit website, we couldn't actually send a message because we needed a special code that we didn't have. We simply gave up in frustration, which is exactly what airlines want you to do. We didn't ask for this so- called deal. It was Spirit who called us. They have provided good service in the 5 years or more that we have used them, but they really dropped the ball here. We have now booked with another airline and will do our best to never fly Spirit again if we can help it. They reneged on a deal and we cannot forgive for this.

Myrtle Beach to San Juan via Fort Lauderdale . In Fort Lauderdale, there was no plane to take us to San Juan. We were stranded for hours with nobody helping us except to say they would put us on the first flight out, but they had no idea when that would be. I finally got a call through to a Spirit agent somewhere else, who maintained there was no central Customer Service office anywhere, and she certainly couldn't do anything to help us; so I told her my husband is 65 with a heart condition, and was beginning to feel chest pains (all technically true, although the heart condition is benign, and the pains were from lugging our stuff all around), and that I would appreciate it if she would relay that information to someone who could help us. Almost immediately we got attention from the FLL agent, who said that Spirit was going to buy us tickets on American. He walked us over to the American terminal, where American refused to take a check or credit card from Spirit Airlines. After some discussion they worked something out and we got on the American flight. (Return Spirit flights to Myrtle Beach were problem-free and very comfortable). Next time I fly Spirit (and I probably will, since I'm a cheapskate) I'll try in advance to get a phone number where I can reach someone who has authority to help stranded customers, although I doubt it exists.

No way would I fly this airline again! First of all, I bought a package deal, so I not even aware what portion was paid for the ticket. Secondly, I did not choose the airline, but rather the company that I booked the package through did - Funjet. My story sounds very similar to many of the other stories that I just read. In essence, we were left in customs by Spirit after leaving Cancun to Fort Lauderdale. We simply got off the plane to go through customs and by the time we got back to the gate; the plane was gone - with our luggage on it, mind you! We live in Minneapolis and were planning to catch a plane from ATL to MSP on a differnt carrier. After all was said and done, me, my husband and 6 year old daughter slept in the ATL airport until the following morning when we could catch a plane on a real airline (DELTA) to get home! Spirit Airlines and Fort Lauderdale airport were complete chaos! At no point was any Spirit employee that we spoke with willing to take any responsibility for the inconvenience. I am an airline employee myself and happen to know first hand what good service is.

I would not recommend spirit airlines to anyone. On the day of my return flight it turned out my destination airport was closed due to security reasons. The plane was supposed to make one flight and then continue but when we arrived at the stop we were asked to deplane. They offered no explanation except that the flight was canceled and we had to go to rebooking. After 4 hours on line with 3 children and an infant and no explanation or an offer of water or food I was told that the next available flight was 3 days later or I could get a refund. They could not tell me how much my refund would be and when I asked to speak to a supervisor, she refused to see me. I ended up having to spend $1500 on flights with another airline since my children were not feeling well. When I finally received my refund it was only for $284.00 for a total of six passengers after I spent over $1900 on round trip tickets. I would never fly Spirit again nor recommend anyone use them.

After arriving at the Fort Lauderdale airport over an hour before flight, my husband had to wait in a 30 minute line due to insufficient customer service agents. When he arrived at the counter he was told that he would not have enough time to make his flight and that he would need to see customer service. Once he told the attendant that he had been there and watched how long she spent with the customers before him, she said "I didn't know I was being timed" and proceeded to make a "report" of my husband raising his voice. Once he made it to customer service, he had to pay for a new ticket because he had a "missed flight". We ended up paying $105 for the original flight and $185 for the second. Total of right at $300 for a ONE WAY flight from Fort Lauderdale to Atlanta. When we expressed our concerns to customer service, they told him that it was his fault for not arriving in time. Do not fly unless you are ready to deal with customer NO service.

If you're old enough to remember the now-defunct Peoples Express, thiis airline is its stepchild. The fares may be cheap but everything else that goes along with the fare is not. Extra charges for bags, seat selection and soft drinks/snacks quickly tacks on as much as $60 roundtrip, in some cases. When there's a problem, a telephone call to a representative somewhere on the other side of the world results in frustration and little else. In choosing an airline you need to compare apples to apples. Above all, remember you get what you pay for.
