✅ Trip Verified | This is the most annoying airport I’ve been to. The shops all sell the same rubbish, the staff aren’t at all interested and all the prices are in US dollars. That’s like going to Heathrow and all the prices being in Vietnamese Dong! I understand that goods might show a conversion - but to just have dollars is irritating. And the wifi is rubbish.

Not Verified | The new Hanoi international terminal 2 opened at the end of December 2014, excellent and well planned, a big improvement on the old terminal. It only took me a few minutes to check in and pass the security, very efficient happy helpful staff all the way.

✅ Trip Verified | Frequent user of the services at Noi Bai airport here, it's one of the worst designed and managed airports in SE Asia. No signage to get you from domestic to international. Airport bus to the city takes roughly 20-30 mins to depart. Food at gates are expensive and taste bad. Restrooms hard to find. Immigration customs occasionally ask you for tips upon arrival. Avoid if you can!

✅ Trip Verified |   This airport is the worst. The staff were rude, unprofessional and not helpful at all. Barely anyone speaks English, which is a surprise for such an important airport. They mishandled my personal belongings, treated me with no respect and constantly yelling or scolding me in Vietnamese right in front of me. I would not set foot at this airport again.

✅ Trip Verified | We flew from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City on Feb 22, 2022. My son misplaced a backpack before boarding the flight. We asked the flight attendant to check with airport security to see if they can help to recover it, but had little hope that we could get it back. The airport security team screened the airport cameras and found out that my son left it in a bathroom, and someone else took it, and then the person boarded a bus. The security team triangulated and tracked down the person and then talked them into returning the backpack to us, within a few hours since we lost it. When we landed in HCMC, Hanoi airport security called and told us they retrieved the backpack and we could arrange to receive it back. We had two iPads in the backpack, and some other items with sentimental values, and we were very happy to get them all back. We were so impressed with the courteous, prompt and professional assistance they gave us, and would like to commend everyone in the security team there, especially Mr. Phong, Mr. Hop and Mr. Hung.

✅ Trip Verified | Noi Bai airport has done very well to ensure the prevention of the Covid epidemic. In addition, at the moment there are not many flights, but the environment is still clean and the service quality is still good.

✅ Trip Verified | I find that Noi Bai Airport is one of the best airports for the following reasons: - Full safety instructions for guests through: broadcast, public TV, poster/standee at station areas - Disinfectant tools for guests are fully arranged at: induction disinfection machine, alcohol sanitizer, free face mask ATMs - Safety regulations are well implemented by airport staff and guests: staff wear protective gear, masks, gloves, and splash-proof glasses; check-in counters have splash-proof glass, seats with labels for sitting distance. Queuing at check-in, security, exit to ensure distance. Through research, I found out more information that: - Vietnam Airlines is certified as a 5-star airline for safety against Covid by Skytrax - The port is certified for Airport Health Accreditation (AHA) by the Airports Council International (ACI). I am very impressed with all of this!

Not Verified | The airport was huge, the people were loud but the lounge was nice. The staff were friendly and nice. The view was incredible, the food was nice. What could be better?

✅ Trip Verified | The airport is smaller compared to other regionals like BKK or KUL nonetheless the navigation and speed is still great. Maybe it's because of its shape (one straight rectangular building, you just go in a line either left or right). I often travel during peak time of the day (after lunch, afternoon hour) but the queuing (both for departs and arrival) are never longer than 20 minutes. Baggage check is right behind the passpost control counter so sometimes it takes you like 5-10 minutes for a stroll from check-in counter to boarding gate. The customs are quite friendly and make sure things are always done asap. It's just going to be boring when you arrive and finish everything too soon as there's little to do once you get into the boarding area or on a transit. Only fast food eateries, duty free (Lotte) and some souvenirs. Best to watch airplanes flying (they have quite decent view) or do web-surfing. Take your time for this no-rush airport. Perhaps try to speak to a local if you're a foreigner. Do take note that in this airport the domestic and international departure are in completely different terminals with no indoor connections. You have to go out one to get to the other.

✅ Trip Verified | It's an okay experience for a small-sized airport. Flew from here at least once for every year since 2016. As the airport is small you would expect things to be fast and it was. I have never experienced a slow response (because I always try to get to the airport 3 hours before flight). The immigration took me around 20 minutes at the longest queue. But there are of course more rooms to improve. Easy to navigate. Not so much to do here, I only see some fast-food restaurants in the departure area. Wifi is okay. Not much for you to shop but the sheer number of Vietnamese souvenirs. The arrival is also fast with the check-in and luggage retrieving. More options to eat when you are out at the arrival.

Not Verified | The airport is small, not very clean, not very well organized, there wasn't any staff who guided customers. In addition, the food in airport is too expensive, I took an sandwich and coconut drink and it cost 270 000 VND (13 USD). Bad service - high prices.

Not Verified | Relatively small but quite well organized airport. I arrived from PVG and can honestly say the Chinese airport staff from PVG and other airports, especially immigration, should really be sent here for a training and observations. I was amazed how quickly immigration was done, how people were kind and orderly. Airport perfectly fitting the traffic. Good transportation between domestic and international terminal. Only minus is poor choice of accommodation around.

Not Verified | Terrible experience. Having gone through full passport controls in Da Nang we expected to simply transfer at Hanoi smoothly to our London bound connection. Not at all, no signs from 1st flight and our only option was to exit the airport. Found someone who pointed to a shuttle bus which (after a long wait) took us from domestic flights to international terminal. Total mayhem, no guidance whether we should head left or right. We had to go again through full customs which was so crowded and uncontrolled it took nearly two hours! Thank goodness we had 4 hours transfer window. Very stressful experience.

Not Verified | This airport is a joke. One would expect some basic logistics from the biggest airport in the country but no. Apparently it is too difficult to put out self-checkin counters so that passengers who travel with hand-luggage only could avoid standing in 2h queue. Also maybe it might be worth considering opening more than one check in counters earlier than last minute so that people can go through passport control at least a few minutes before the scheduled departure time. It can be so simple.

✅ Trip Verified | This was by far the worst airport experience I have ever had! They lack the most basic organization in key aspects such as passenger check-in, passport and security control. Travelling with only hand luggage, I had to wait for over two hours to check in and an hour more to pass passport control and security check. Due to their inability to handle their passengers, the flight was delayed with over an hour. This airport is a joke!

The building is relatively simple, but well designed and maintained, with spotlessly clean toilets and a reasonable choice of facilities, both air and landslide. However the arrival experience does very much depends on the time of the day, but immigration counters always seem to be well staffed and queues manageable. Baggage processing is quick and efficient. However, the visa on arrival process could be significantly improved with the addition of more processing staff and assistance to visitors who are unsure of the exact procedure to be followed. The lastest visit took one hour twenty minutes and was needlessly chaotic. Even better would be the use of an electronic visa system such as for Sri Lanka, which would completely alleviate the need to queue twice. Taxis are well managed, metered and there is also a very efficient bus service which takes you right into the heart of the city. Departure is largely a smooth and seamless process and even though the checkin area is fairly small, it works well. Plenty of seats, and a few places to eat, once you get through security. The whole terminal has a definite sense of being well managed and is a nice introduction to one of Asian’s more interesting cities.

Couldn't find that area the second time but had little time, in fact. The next layover there would be in a couple of months for 9 hours but that's the right airport for it!

❎ Not Verified | Was flying from Hanoi T2 for 11pm flight to Paris. Good signage, was from check-in to gate in around 10 minutes. Due to lost baggage on flight over to HCMC, they gave us front row seats, which were very nice. Good selection of duty-free shopping to pass the time, as we arrived early at our gate. Overall great airport.

❎ Not Verified | Terrible, unacceptable waiting times for immigration and baggage. Standing and waiting for 90mins. Baggage seemingly drip fed by a single employee. No opportunity to buy water or soft drinks while waiting. A brand new terminal utterly wasted by inefficient practices.

The cleaning women chirped like magpies as they went through the terminal – a drawback when trying to sleep, but that only goes to show that the cleaners are there, working hard. ✅ Verified Review | Terrible immigration services at Terminal 2 for international passengers: The organization of the waiting lines are very uncommon in comparison to other airports such as ICN, HND, NRT, SIN. Immigration staff are so unfriendly and their English is not good. I felt like I was in North Korea. Need to bring more good F&B brands to the airport, both T1 and T2, such as Starbucks, McDonald's and other franchising brands. Need to take care of the toilets for both terminals.

✅ Verified Review | I arrived the domestic terminal (T1) of Hanoi Airport from Ho Chi Minh Airport. It took a long time for the customers to get the checked luggage. Fortunately, the confirmation process for the luggage was simple and fast. Moreover, the public transportation from Ha Noi Airport to the center of Ha Noi city was only bus which was comfortable for solo travelers.

✅ Verified Review | This airport has two terminals, I took my flight from the international terminal (T2). There is a shuttle bus between two terminals (T1, T2) for people transiting at this airport. For the terminal signs and directions, they were clear for foreigners to understand and follow. There were also many lines so I did not wait too long for security checking and immigration. However, the problem is the cleanliness of both the floors and toilets. Moreover, there was no electricity plug for charging in the waiting room. The food and beverages were good especially the Vietnamese traditional food such as "pho" or spring rolls. The wifi connection was not stable so it took a long time waiting for the connection.

❎ Unverified | Hanoi Noi Bai Airport T2 (International Terminal) is busy. However, the check-in lines and security controls are not that crowded. Airport was ok, not dirty but not clean. The staff are more busy looking at their smartphones more than actually helping other. Signs are nice and clear. Overall, it's a nice aiurport.

Several times travelling to Hanoi Vietnam and have to say that it has improved a lot. The newly designed terminal is big and clean. However the staff are still the problem of this airport. No one smiles, hard-to-understand English speakers. Passport checking process is too long, immigration officers always have angry faces and shout at passengers.

Hanoi is my hometown airport - over the last couple years it has improved a lot. The terminal 2 is pretty modern, large, open space, very clean. It has free wifi, free charging station, and easier to go to city center with public transport.

Nôi Bai is a good airport for my opinion - huge but does not seem crowded. The facilities are superb and the staff are quite attentive. The shopping inside is not cheap but reasonable. The staff were friendly and The interiors are world-class with ample of seating arrangements.

I am at Hanoi airport for a departure to Da Nang city. It is easy to find the way to check in, the airport is clean, WiFi is good and the shopping is fair. Queuing times are long for security. Plenty of food outlets and gate seating.

The new terminal at Hanoi airport is much better than the old one, which now is the domestic terminal. The international section is very clean, bright and also has a great view. The WiFi here is not good, sometime I can connect but sometimes I cannot. The worst thing here is the high prices for most of the products which I can buy for half the price downtown.

I've been to this airport many times, either for transit or departure/arrival. Noi Bai airport is better day by day. All signs/directions for transit or arrival are clear and if you are a bit lost, the airport staff are helpful and easy to help you. Overall a nice convenient and clean airport.

While Hanoi airport can be efficient, the food and shopping choices are very limited, especially for domestic. There are some options outside but it's all fast food. There are some options upstairs too, but restaurants are full of people smoking which is off putting when you eat. Saigon airport is much better and has many more options and is more modern. The last thing that I have to say is that Vietnamese airports do not have pharmacies. What happens if you need a medicine or even a bandage - no chance they can help.

Changes to Hanoi Airport are marvellous and beautiful. Staff are friendly and easy going. It is a good place to travel from. Good facilities and better quality than the old airport. I am satisfied.

Clear, modern, up to date, functional, well designed airport. Not crowded at all, well tempered with a lot of natural light. Great duty free shopping area. Clean, maintained toilets everywhere. Hanoi was a very good surprise and one of the most comfortable airports I know in this range of size.

Hanoi Airport is a new, nice airport, and surprised me with how modern and nice it looked. My arrival was smooth, immigration was quick. The floor was clean and bathroom was spotless. Everyone I met was smiling and helpful too. I hate shopping so the lack of shops here didn't quite bother me. I just arrived at the Ho Chi Minh airport and this one is way worse compared to Hanoi.

Arrived from Siem Reap after cancellation of our earlier flight. Ferried by bus from the plane to the terminal and managed to get quickly into the arrivals hall where it wasn't at all clear what the procedure was for connecting to our long haul flight. Finally, was informed that it wasn't necessary to clear customs and immigration and once my passport and boarding passport had been checked by the charmless party functionary behind a makeshift table, we were able to get to security and then the international departures area. The chaps on security seemed, for some reason, to have developed a pleasant sense of humour and got through without too much trouble. The international departures area is a revelation - despite styling itself as a Socialist Republic, Vietnam seems to have espoused consumerism with a vengeance. Having had a cursory look around the duty free shops (which all seems to carry the same stock), I had a foot massage and then travelled back to the departure gate where my flight was starting to board. Free Wifi only available for 30 minutes - bit of a swizz.

Noi Bai Int'L airport is modern, clean and full of nice places to eat and entertain yourself while waiting. Quick check-in and passport control. Flights for dozes of destinationa in Asia.

The airport was nice and new although there were too many signs and directions in the terminal. Very clean, helpful staff and lots of space to sit and rest.

The new terminal is nice and well-designed. The old terminal is rather dull and shops/food are limited. Announcements could be clearer and louder. Connection between old and new terminal is okay, but not great. My rating below concerns the old (local) terminal.

New terminal 2 for international flight out of Noi Bai airport. The new terminal is much more modern and better designed than the old Terminal 1. It is larger, better air conditioned, and has all the needed amenity. The waiting area near gates does not have a lot of space for shopping though.

Airport is new and clean. There is a free wi-fi in duty free zone without registration which is very good. But there are very few duty free shops and it's overpriced. Not recommend this airport for long stopover.

Hanoi now has an International Terminal and a Domestic Terminal which are separate but near each other. Arrived on a domestic flight at the International Terminal and was bussed to Domestic Arrivals Hall. Relatively quick arrival of cases and limited checking before getting to large Arrivals Hall. A good array of facilities including shops/café etc along with Taxi and Bus ranks. The International Terminal was completed at the beginning of 2015 and still has some final "polishing" to be completed and some shop/café units to open. The building is a Glass Shed design with Check-in on the 1st Floor and Arrivals on the Ground Floor. There are a number of Islands of Check-in Desks for each airline grouping and 2 entries to Passport Control and then Security Scanning. Note there is no facility to change Vietnamese Dong once airside and ALL prices are quoted in USD. You must do down to Arrivals Level to use one of the banks to convert any unwanted Dong before doing passport/Security. Departure Lounge is one long strip with the gates overlooking the runway. Duty Free is limited to small range of alcohol and tobacco products and a shop selling Vietnamese things. There is no shop offering electronic goods/cameras. Each gate area had seating around the desk and a TV showing local programmes or films. As it was all new it is difficult to be fully objective on the state of the facilities offered but it looks OK so far.

Not too bad - arrival was smooth and immigration formalities were completed quickly. Bags were delivered within 20-25 minutes of landing. Outside you will find the arrivals hall where you can hire a car/taxi to the city for a fixed price. Departed a couple of days later - Vietnam Airlines check-in area was a little chaotic - it took about 20-25 minutes to get our boarding passes. Arrive as early as you can for check-in. The 1st floor of the International Departures area is pretty much a hall with plenty of small duty free shops a dated restaurant limited seating as well as long queues for boarding (especially for long-haul flights). The 2nd floor is much quieter with plenty of seats a Burger King a Vietnamese food chain more shops selling souvenirs and the two business class lounges (one for Vietnam Airlines and the other for everyone else). There is nothing much to do here and it got quite crowded as many flights were departing in the morning. The good news is that the new international terminal will be opened in 2015 and that will be able to accommodate more passengers.

Some updates since last visit. 7 years ago was our last trip and it was sparse crowded hot and a mess. Just left Hanoi for a visit and markedly different. Arrival went smooth. Had visa on arrival took all of 5 minutes. Immigration bags and custom just as fast. All in all off plane got visa on arrival through immigration bags and customs in less than 30 minutes. Return arrived about 3.5 hours before flight. Drop off lobby incredibly hot and crowded but just sat and chilled until ticketing opened. Queue was fine got tickets and through all security procedures in less than 10 minutes. Airside some improvements made. Much more offerings. Not pressure to buy anything at all. Prices while a tad higher than in the city were not ridiculous at all. They now have a burger king at the airport as well. other food options. boarding was fast and efficient. Really seems like a step forward. Just remember it is a developing country so go with the flow you will be fine.

To be fair this wasn't as bad an experience as I expected having read many of the previous reviews. Arrival was a little chaotic. VOA desk is not well sign-posted between the application and collection counters which caused much confusion for many people standing in the wrong place. Once handed in the VOA took only ten mins to process although that was because we were off the plane first and at the front of the queue. Immigration and baggage collection were smooth and we were through the airport in about 45 minutes at the most. Departure was very smooth. Hardly any queue and through immigration and security in minutes. Yes the airport is showing its age with not too much in the way of facilities after immigration. Although there are a few gift shops duty free and snack outlets. As many have said not enough seating so I guess a problem at peak times? We used the lounge which was comfortable and had a decent choice of food and drink. Overall an acceptable experience.

Was very hot and stuffy inside even though it was a cool day and the staff weren't particularly helpful. I had to put up with looks of disdain from some of the shop assistants when I went to interrupt their lazing to ask about products. There's nowhere to change money once you're through customs none of the VAT reimbursement points seemed to be manned and there was a smell of urine where my gate was. Most infuriatingly I was assured that I could take my duty free Chivas Regal through an international transfer and then had it confiscated by a man at Singapore airport who implied I should know better. Not a place I'd recommend at all.

Most basic facilities are available but without free Wi-Fi waiting area for international departure lacks chairs so when it comes to busy hours many people might have to stand or just sit on floors. Despite of these I found that this airport is a good airport in general with friendly and helpful staffs. Terminal 2 is in progress and hopefully this will bring improvements for their service soon. The security is very funny I checked in 2 water guns in plastic for our kids and they ask me to take it out even that they are clearly make of plastic and are checked in ridiculous.

Why passengers have to line up to pass their hand luggage through x-ray machines again after they've landed and passed through immigration prior to being able to pick up the rest of their baggage on the carousels escapes me and is something I'd never seen before. The terminal itself looks dated and on departure the staff aren't the most professional or polite in the world. Once you pass through security your options are very limited so bring a good book and don't expect wifi. My flight's gate number changed as well without announcement which caught a few people off guard.

This is the worst airport I have ever seen. Staff treat customers with no respect. Staff have no knowledge and no idea about professionalism. I don't understand why after several complaints the management have never done anything to improve. The Airport creates the first impression of the country.

This place is old dirty and horribly disorganized. Those are its best features. Employees are universally surly incompetent and disinterested. The queues turn into messy scrums with attendants opening random areas for entrance with utter disregard to who managed to get in line first. The first class line is not much better. Customer service is a foreign concept and the "help desk" when manned is no help at all with personnel keen on ignoring you. Immigration is unreasonably and unnecessarily slow. Bag claim has no signage to direct you to the proper belt to retrieve your luggage. Cabbies at the airport are like hyenas and charge 2x more than the going rate. Unfortunately I live here part of the year and have no choice but to use this airport. I fear the new facilities being built will be no better since they will be staffed with the same clueless employees as Noi Bai. Given the facilities in Singapore Bangkok KL etc. this place should be an embarrassment to those in charge. But it isn't. They've got you and they know it.

Horrible airport. I used the lounge during the layover. This airport is so small more like a bus terminal. Facilities are old and shabby and most staff don't really speak/understand English.

Arrived from KUL on May 30 and returned back on June 4. A quite old airport with only one terminal that serves both domestic and international flights. Most basic facilities are available but without free Wi-Fi waiting area for international departure lacks chairs so when it comes to busy hours many people might have to stand or just sit on floors. Arrived from HKG on Jan 30th and departed for Danang on Feb 1st. Noi Bai is an old airport with poor facilities. Immigration on arrival was extremely slow and despite relatively few arrivals at the time took us over an hour and a half. Domestic departures is poorly organised but generally quick the real problem is the departure lounge for domestic flights - extremely poor facilities and no wifi the 3 shops sell the same poor quality tourist tat and Vietnamese sweets. 2 coffee bars but very poor quality food. No lounge access unless you fly business (flying blue status only valid for int'l flights). They are constructing a new terminal this can't happen fast enough.

Horrific experience during Tet. It seems that the airport management did not make any attempt to deal with the extra amount of visitors during this busy season. Domestic departures are a joke. They run 3 security gates but for the economy class passengers there they only open 2 the third is reserved for business class and 'priority' passengers. As a result the queues are so big that there is no way that the departures hall can cope - especially with no effort to organise a queue instead allowing passengers into a free-for-all scrum. Given that possibly 10% of passengers are business class or 'priority' this flaw in security gate allocations mean that 90& of passengers are squeezed into only 66% of the gates. If there was the slightest bit of common sense among the security staff then they would filter economy class passengers through the business/priority gate to ease the strain on the overly-busy economy gates. It makes no sense for a third of the security gates (and therefore a third of the security staff) to stand there doing nothing whilst the other two gates are bursting at the seams. Even when passengers who were rushing for their flights were allowed through they were forced to jump the queue of the gate relevant to their ticket therefore skipping the economy class queue. I would suggest a through review of security procedures especially considering the staff were more confused by my Vietnamese residence card (which is helpfully translated into Vietnamese) than my English passport - something I would have hoped to speed up the process! The departures hall is bearable with just about enough seats. Thankfully the domestic terminal is moderately priced for food and drink if you are a foreign/expat traveller but I suspect on the expensive side for local travellers.

This airport is not bad but needs some improvement. The advantage is that it is small hence you find everything easily. The immigration is chaotic and unfriendly. The best thing is the short distance to everything as it is a small airport.

Quite bad. I actually liked it better back in 1999 before it was modernized. Main waiting area does not have enough seating shop owners are avaricious and the acoustics are terrible. While the toilets are not as foul as those I encountered in China they are a close second.

I had a great time while visiting Hanoi but got scammed at the airport gift shops. All prices are in USD but when I paid by credit card they said they could only run it in Dong. I said that was fine. When I got the receipt I had been charge twice as much as I should have. I bought 24.00 US dollars of gifts but the credit card transaction went through at 845000. (which converted to $39.00). When I confronted the salesperson about the transaction she had no answer and pretended like she didn't know what I was talking about. No one in the airport could speak English well enough for me to talk to. Then my flight was boarding so I couldn't do anything about it.

Transit from Bangkok and onwards to Seoul Korea. A small airport with architecture from the olden days. Functional though. Arrivals and transit done in 10 minutes. Staff helpful and quick. There were 3 other flights so the whole waiting area was filled up with not enough seats. Lots of shops selling either luxurious items or tourist bits and a couple of cafes as well. All in all an ok airport that would not handle larger crowds. One big minus for not having wifi which I consider today as basic courtesy for travellers.

Arrivals - there was the usual wait for visas then chaos outside. Departures was horrendous: there are cafes shops etc. It was probably more chaotic as Vietnam airlines system had gone down so everyone was kept waiting then a mad dash to security etc. It was one of the most chaotic airports I have been to with people everywhere and generally just a total mess!

Hanoi airport has changed a lot from 10 years ago. Small functional airport with some new facilities. check in staff immigration and security staff are friendlier than Ho Chi Minh City airport. Shops and restaurants are open late not designed for morning flights (845 am). Prices are pretty expensive (5 USD for a coffee). It is still a tiny airport comparing with most of the airports in the region. There is no public wifi. Toilets are small and relatively clean. There are enough seats at second floor particular for morning flights. Immigration and security check are fast. Boarding process are smooth and efficient.

A quick weekend getaway BKK-HAN-BKK. Both arrival and departure were hassle free as I only had a carry on. Arrival was through an air bridge and passport control was quickly cleared. Ample ways to connect to the city taxi fares compare to BKK is a bit steep if you consider the distance but its not a rip off. Many taxi drivers trying to tout you at arrivals but it is better to go to the official stand. Departure was hassle free as I checked in online so managed to bypass Air Asia's long lines. Cafes on 1st floor are OK but the product quality is very poor. Duty free or shopping at airport is full of tourist trinkets so not so interesting. Efficient airport but I flew in the morning so I gather it was not the rush hour.

In the Terminal we had to wait 20-25 mins for our visa on arrival before proceeding to immigration and customs both were efficient. The departure a week later really a terrible experience we checked in and look for some restaurant not really a good choice before security. So we thought we look after security However after security (which let me pass with a liter bottle of water filled) there was nothing - only tourist shops that sold of all thing cookies nothing from Vietnam. The terminal was filled with smoke terminal was really disgusting. People were unfriendly (security/shop seller). Also no decent place to sit also no shops selling magazines or books.

It's not a big airport by any means but it's very efficient - immigration quick entering and leaving Vietnam luggage reclaim also fast and finding my driver in the arrival hall was easy. There wasn't a great lot by way of shopping in departures but it was a clean and comfortable place to wait. I would agree with others that signage at check in could have been easier - though it wasn't that difficult to work out where I should be going. All in all a pleasant airport.

Signage is very poor & vague in the check-in area. I had to ask 3 security people where to check in. Little in the way of places to eat landside airside there is a nice restaurant though somewhat on the expensive side. Lots of merchandise vendors airside. Immigration & security people some of the nicest & friendliest I've found anywhere! I got through very quickly. Chairs are mainly hard metal ones with armrests throughout the airport. Immigration on entering Vietnam smooth efficient friendly. Airport looks old but it is clean.

I found the departure process to be daunting. The floor space is too small for the volume and both signage and verbal information sources are poor. Getting to the counter involved a lengthy search and "wading" through a sea of folks who seemed equally challenged. The gate area was far more serene and the second floor where lounges are located was virtually empty. Time for a new building - especially considering the region's growth.

Small airport can't be compared with BKK OR KLIA. Upon arrival immigration clearance is quick and bags are received quickly too. On down side at check in very poor signage and information check in counters only open about 2 hours before so one can't check in early in order to drop off bag. Lounge at Hanoi average but does the job as very little else to do once you clear immigration

It's a pretty small airport which has its good points and its bad points. On the plus side international arrivals are incredibly quick - you walk down a short corridor from your plane have a short wait in the immigration queue walk a few metres over to baggage claim (which is reasonably fast since the bags don't have to travel far) then walk a few metres over to customs (I was waved through without them even looking at my bags) and you're in the arrivals hall. Similarly on departure you are through very quickly once you check in and don't have to walk through miles of corridors like in larger airports. The negative side of HAN's small size is the lack of facilities - not much in the way of duty free food etc and if you're travelling economy then the only entertainment in the departure lounge is a few TVs playing an endless loop of Vietnamese ads for cosmetics. Signage is also pretty poor. It's not an airport you'd want to spend much time in but as it's definitely a 'spoke' rather than a 'hub' you're never going to have a six-hour layover there. It's just a place you get into and get out of as quickly as possible and in those terms it's not too bad.

Very poor airport - virtually no shops airside no money changers and no information screens. It's clean but that's about all it's got going for it. The duty free is extremely expensive (more expensive than UK high street prices!) and the staff in the shops are surly and downright dishonest. If paying with dong be very careful. All prices are in US$ and while there may be posters saying 18000 dong to $1 the staff bump it up to to 20000 in the hope you won't notice. Question this and some shops relent and revert back to the official exchange rate others won't and it's time to walk away. Hanoi airport shop staff - out to rip off tourists even more than market stall holders. Get your dong changed before heading to the airport and buy any bottles of water or snacks on the plane. It might be expensive but chances are it will be no more expensive than the airport and on the plane you might be served honestly and with a smile.

Arrival process slowed down by additional health screening declaration form to be filled in at present due to the swine flu crisis. Once through this passports handled fairly quickly and luggage reclaim likewise. Currency exchange possible in the arrivals hall. Departure process saw long queues for check in for Vietnam Airlines flights but handled quickly and efficiently. Fairly modern terminal with a good range of shops and food outlets.

One tip I never saw any currency exchange airside so if you have dong spend it or change it before you check in. its a worthless currency once you leave Vietnam although i did manage to find an exchange in bitang in KL who took it off my hands at a rate beneficial to him. But the MYR got me dinner and a beer.

Average airport. Singapore Airlines check in only opened 2 hours before departure. Lots of people milling around but no communication until the appointed time. There is a large selection of duty free stores once through customers offering the usual things. Tip : head upstairs for more space and a quieter experience.

Airport has a modern design look. Faculty is average compared to the South Tan Son Nhat airport. Immigration is ok. Building roof seems to need a major fix because of leak during the rain season when I passed through (found small buckets everywhere on the floor).
