Berlin Brandenburg Airport

✅ Trip Verified | The new airport for Berlin and Brandenburg offers a nice travel experience. You can reach the airport very conveniently via train from the city and the train station is directly under the terminal. Travel time from Alexanderplatz is only 25 minutes, which is so much more convenient than for example in Barcelona or the old Berlin airport. Overall it has a very nice interior design that differs from most other airports because it uses a lot of wood material that make it feel cozy and warm. The airport is not super huge which makes it easy to navigate. The signs have a great look and overall I did not have any problems finding my way around, although small improvements could be made there for sure. I was not 100% sure how to find the security line in the pavillion next to the main terminal for example. The toilets are a bit small and it would be great not to touch any door knobs to enter, many modern airports now have toilets without doors to the main hall. Also the "towel" dispenser was broken, that should be replaced. You have plenty of shops and restaurants, mostly situated in a main marketplace in the middle of the terminal. There could be more food options in the gate areas though, which would be great to not having to walk all the way back to the middle. The waiting areas next to the gates seem a bit small, it was no problem on my flight though, which was only half booked. The seats are very comfortable and you have great views through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Overall the airport has a lot of natural light, which is great. I enjoyed flying from there and see it as a modern, functional airport that is not as gigantic as others and therefore offers a more relaxed experience.

Not Verified | So, after more than a decade, Berlin has a new airport. And it is a huge disappointment. It looks a bit new here and there, but I wonder how it is possible that it is flawed in so many ways. The signs are often confusing. Passengers have nobody to ask, and if by chance they find some airport staff to ask, it turns out they are from Brandenburg, so they don't speak English. After security, the signs are even more of a mess. If you sit in a food court, there are no signs indicating departures in sight or even nearby, and you can't understand any audio announcements in the food courts because the sound quality is so poor. When you got up to the food court on the first floor by escalator, the way down is by stairs only (I did not see any elevator) so this airport is very unfriendly to people who are impaired when it comes to walking. Likewise, there aren't enough sitting places by far, and I even noticed that there are gate waiting areas without any seat close, so people waiting had to sit on the floor. If you have difficulties walking or standing for a longer time, forget this airport - it is the worst case scenario. There are information counters run by airlines after security and the only information desk is run by airport staff - see above. This airport is a complete mess. It has cost the taxpayers in Berlin and Brandenburg a fortune and is not airport-worthy.

✅ Trip Verified | This airport is a shame for Berlin. The design is straight from the 2000s, long walking distances artificially created waiting lines (security, passport control etc, only a couple of booths are usually open, totally inefficient). No chargers for the phones, not enough seats at the gates.

Not Verified | The exit signs were intermittent and many traveller went pass the exit point. The exit point signs are small hence not obvious. The airport is not user friendly as traveller with hand luggage had to climb up the stairs instead of many modern airport that has escalators. The immigration point was long and painfully slow. The traffic flow was not well regulated with the current Covid situation. At one point departing passengers and arrival passengers walk along a passage 1/1.2 m wide. It's very disappointing for this long awaited airport.

✅ Trip Verified | Having travelled extensively to and from Tegel airport over many years, I was really looking forward to using BBI. Ground transportation to and from the airport, especially the train service, is really good and smooth. That said, everything else leaves a great deal to be desired. The terminal building is a strange mix of austere and elegant, and the signage being used in the airport terminal (T1) is not for the faint-hearted. When I visited last night at 7pm, most stops and businesses were simply closed. I would also suggest wearing comfortable shoes when you visit BBI, because the airport is much larger than I had anticipated. At one point, it felt like Frankfurt airport or Paris-CDG, on a really bad day. I would suggest bringing your own food, because eating options were lackluster, to put it mildly. If you have access to the Lufthansa lounge, do bring your own soft drinks and forget about eating anything more than the tiniest snacks I have ever seen. All in all, I would do anything to get Tegel back, especially after having waited an extra ten years for BBI to open. Tegel was not perfect, but BBI is now high up on my list of airports I will be actively trying to avoid.

✅ Trip Verified | Hailed as a definitive solution to the decade-long problems affecting Berlin airports, the new BER airport is nothing but a disappointment. Bad signage leading nowhere, unfriendly personnel mostly not proficient neither in English nor German, long queues both at the check in and the security checks, shops mostly closed or scattered too far from the gates -where vending machines are either empty or absent, a complete failure in organizing passengers (we were put in another gate with another destination, moved to the right one, onboarded with no further checks by an employee who screamed at us - only in broken German - to just walk to the plane). It just looks like an aesthetically more modern version of the (thank goodness) defunct Schoenfeld airport: a bad-kept, ill-organized and poorly designed airport which doesn't belong to a big European capital. Not recommended, and a wasted opportunity for the city of Berlin to get the internationally relevant hub it deserves.

✅ Trip Verified | First the airport is far outside the city, at least 45 min travel distance. The airport is small, business like, Rewe or restaurants are minimal, no idea how they ever provide for all passengers. Security area is slow and so small, only one of 10 security areas is open, even there they don't want to work. No seats in the waiting area in front of the gate. You must stand in the path or sit in the window frame. Announcements are so low that you don't understand what they saying. All together poor service on a middle sized airport, size like Mallorca.

Not Verified | What a huge disappointment! Architecture is big and brutal and obviously designed many years ago. After having waited for 10 years we get a crammed airport, security was a mess. Then obligatory entrance through a supermarket, that makes further walking into a timewasting experience. Signings are poor. If I would bring my parents who would need walking assistance, they would have no chance get through here. I felt luck to find coffee! After 10 minutes walking I found a small coffee bar. Food selection is mostly cheap fast food. Otherwise lots of closed shops even if its summer and lots of people in the airport. Lucky to find electricity for the phone. Ground staff wouldn't let me on the plane, if did not have a plastic cover on my coffee (!) where did that rule come from? On top of that more than 1.5 hours extra waiting in the plane, because the airport - in the middle of the travel season - has 4 (four!) people taking care of luggage. I travel a lot and found many nice airports in Europe, and have travelled more than 200 times from Tegel and Schönefeld. Which despite its lacks I already miss!

✅ Trip Verified | I think this airport is a big improvement for Berlin. First it is very well connected to the train system with its own station underneath the main terminal. The FEX Airport Express takes you to the city and also regional trains, long distance trains ans the Berlin S Bahn stop here. That is a big plus. The old airports had only bus connections. The airport design is warm with good materials used, which makes it look timeless and classy. It’s not something that is designed to look like a UFO and which will look like an outdated design flaw in twenty years. I also like that it doesn‘t come across as a shopping mall that happens to have planes docked to it. I don’t need that. I had no trouble using it.

Not Verified | Trotz Verzögerung immer noch der Schönste Flughafen. Insgesamt gibt es 3 Terminals. Das Hauptterminal 1 ist ein wirklich sehr beeindruckendes Gebäude mit Jurakalksteinboden, Nussbaum Holz , vielen Fenstern, zahlreichen Geschäften, Kunst am Bau, Ledersitzen und !!!jeder Menge Platz!!!. Ich liebe den BER. Ein toller, schöner und moderner Flughafen! Tolles Interior- und Corporate Design. Es passt absolut zur Hauptstadt und verleiht dem Flughafen eine eigene Identität. Mit den Abläufen (Check-in, Sicherheitskontrolle, Boarding, Gepäckausgabe etc.) bin ich sehr zufrieden. Alles verläuft reibungslos und relativ zügig. Toiletten gibt es jede Menge und sie sind gut verteilt. Die Ledersitze sind sehr bequem. Lufthansa-, Tempelhof-, Tegel- (ab Frühjahr) und Zeitgeist-Lounge runden das Angebot ab. - Despite the delay, still the most beautiful airport. There are 3 terminals in total. The main terminal 1 is a really impressive building with Jurassic limestone floor, walnut wood, lots of windows, numerous shops, art in construction, leather seats and !!! lots of space !!!. I love BER. A great, beautiful and modern airport! Great interior and corporate design. It fits in perfectly with the capital and gives the airport its own identity. I am very satisfied with the processes (check-in, security check, boarding, baggage claim, etc.). Everything is going smoothly and relatively quickly. There are plenty of toilets and they are well distributed. The leather seats are very comfortable. Lufthansa, Tempelhof, Tegel (from spring) and Zeitgeist lounges complete the offer.
