Amsterdam Schiphol Airport

Horrible. Security is at the gate. They make you take out everything electronic (even my flat iron had to come out). I was just in layover here transferring to another country. The "pre check" they make you go through is ridiculous. They question you about where you've been and where you're going. Keep in mind this was not immigration or customs! Just the gate attendants before you catch your flight. Everyone rude. Will never get a connecting flight through this airport again. After you go through the questioning and the security they then huddle everyone into the tiniest waiting rooms ever to wait to board the flight. Most people didn't have seats. They really need to come up with better systems for pretty much everything here.

An airport that ranks consistently amongst the best. The co-operation between the airport and the home carrier KLM is flawless. Checked in online and without Luggage to check in I walked from the train station straight to immigration cleared within 2 minutes and was on my way to the gate. Yes Amsterdam Schiphol is a large airport but moving walkways are available at each pier. I arrived at the gate and found a seat and used the one-hour free Wifi Internet. This came with a reasonable speed. On arrival back at AMS a few days later it was again quite a large distance to immigration and baggage claim. Immigration is amongst the best in Europe friendly fast and efficient. Luggage took about 15 minutes but after that it was straight to the station underneath the main hall. Excellent large airport in every respect. If only others in Europe and the US would take the time to learn from them.

I flew in on KLM from Canada. Arrival was good. There were short queues for customs. Baggage arrived in reasonable time. My departure was another story. Security clearance was done at the gate. As a result you have to be at the gate an hour and a half before departure. The aircraft was a 747 - very long queues. Once through the we were herded into a small waiting area. There were not enough seats. Passengers were standing shoulder to shoulder. A delay was announced. We were told to remain seated. As only about ten percent had a seat this produced ironic laughter. There was one washroom in the entire area. No water fountain or drinking water. We stood for forty five minutes. I would happily arrive at Schipol. I will avoid departures from there.

Rude security personnel dirty airport takes lot of time to reach the gates several gate changes without proper communication.

Passed through Shiphol Airport several times lately its a big airport and it offers several shops and possibilities to fill a couple hours between flights. Immigration has been fast compared to other airports but I noticed that it took a bit more time for those holding non EU passports. However Immigration personnel (and I mean just immigration) was pleasant and welcoming. All that is quickly forgotten when time comes to deal with the rest of the airport staff: in stores they are rather unwelcoming but the worst comes with the Security checks staff which are the worst i ever seen (and I travel back and forth from North America to Europe and Asia). Security staff at Shiphol Airport are definitely rude to outright offensive towards passengers which most of the times are either too tired/worried to protest. The fact that they aren't that efficient just add frustration to the already bad experience.

Airport seems to be in disorganised mood? Flew from there on Monday and due to works? There was a limited number of eateries available. We reluctantly ate at a Delft themed cafe which was awful. What is going on here?

Compared with other big European airports there is not much going on. Very unimpressive selection of places to eat/drink - suggest you bring your own food and beverages rather than buy theirs.

Passed through/transferred twice this week. Ridiculous walking distance for the less fit in our group. Once again experienced the aggression of the Dutch traveller - happy to bump into you and 'educating' airport users re walking on the right side. Lack of services especially for eating - and signage very poor. Going through security they're pushing you for no good reason - except maybe as little power trip. The flight was late (probably airline's fault) half the passengers could not hear the local announcements there were 4 staff members at the desk 1 working and the others looking bored. Overall a tiring experience - and compared so badly with Helsinki Airport which is brilliantly laid out chilled and courteous.

Absolutely the airport I prefer. Mostly I originate from this airport but I have used it also 2 times for connections (transfer). This airport is very efficient and has excellent facilities. There are plenty of shops and restaurants. Staff are friendly and toilets are very clean.

Chaotic rude security rude staff throughout airport. Very expensive. Transit anywhere but in that horrible place and the Dutch staff are very dogmatic dictatorial and plain unfriendly.
