"very stressful experience"
Kyran Campbell (United Kingdom)
Not Verified | My flight was scheduled for departure at 7, so boarding closes at 6:30, Check in was scheduled for 5:05, took at least an hour to get through check in/passport control etc (only 2 people on easy jet desk), 4 other girls showed up late acting too slow and casual, no sense of urgency at all, once we got through everything we had 15 minutes to run to our gate, no time to go to the toilet or get any food/drink, people working not very friendly, very stressful experience doesn’t make me want to come back to Amsterdam

"a really horrible airport"
M Knight (United Kingdom)
Not Verified | It's a really horrible airport. I can't think of another airport that's ruder and more unpleasant to be in. Would not recommend flights that transfer through or go to this airport. I've been 3 times now and find it to be disagreeable in terms of places to get a coffee, shop or even just be in.

"passport control treats passengers like scum"
A Karveli (Germany)
✅ Trip Verified | Very disappointing - 3rd world experience - passport control treats passengers like scum - avoid this airport! I have lived in the Netherlands a few years ago, and even after that I’m still a frequent visitor of Schiphol Airport, especially when I’m flying overseas. I used to like it before. But it was shocking to see that it feels like you jumped in a time machine and travelled decades back to the past. We returned from a transatlantic trip and were shocked to see the hundreds of passengers waiting in the queue at the passport control. There were no separate windows/ lanes for EU citizens. The automatic passport scanners (there are 5-6) for passengers with EU passports were out of order. Yes, ALL OF THEM! So if you have a connecting flight to catch, add another 3-4 hours to your initial plan! After a while they finally opened a grand total of ONE window for EU citizens, only to be treated extremely poorly by the border control. The man behind the glass was rude, condescending, and shouted at me. Twice. Then cursed at me in Dutch. He even had some remarks when he handed my passport back. I have never been treated so badly at any airports in my whole life. Regret to report, I was not the only one. The passengers behind me were also treated like scum at passport control. Even after hours of the incident I was shaken by the treatment of the personnel. I am not sure how this treatment of passengers is supposed to represent the Netherlands, but it’s safe to say: from now on I will try to avoid this airport. Half of the travel stirs were out of order. Which didn’t affect me, as I had 5 hours till the departure of my connecting flight. But I can imagine those people I have seen running miles with massive suitcases have a different opinion. Overall experience: very disappointed, this is not how a major international airport should operate.

"Still a shame"
5 reviews M Morton (Netherlands)
✅ Trip Verified | Still a shame. After experiencing some Middle Eastern and Asian airports I found out: it is possible. To manage efficiently an airport. That means: smooths procedures, acceptable queuing time, space to accommodate travellers, crowd control and ample well trained staff. Schiphol lacks this all. Lots of staff in the many shops at the terminal, and at airline related counter functions, but no sufficient staff at vital airport processes. Every time I hope things improve. They even kicked out their CEO, but nothing seems to happen. At arrival at some places it was leaking and we had to avoid the 10 buckets on the floor. Prices of food are higher than in the Gulf State Airports, a coffee here is more expensive that at Harrods at Doha Airport.

"it is even worse than before"
S Walden (Switzerland)
✅ Trip Verified | Literally almost every escalator or lift is broken. Nothing works. Looks like it was last remodeled in the 80's. Absolute disgrace. You would think they would have fixed problems and improved during COVID but it is even worse than before. Dirty, nowhere to charge your phone and lounges most developing countries would be ashamed of.

"hampered by awful passport queues"
R Richardson (Switzerland)
Not Verified | Shambolic. Both transits hampered by awful passport queues (only two booths out of ten staffed) and supervising staff doing very little to help. Used to love flying through here but will not be flying KLM again until this airport moves away from corporate greed and hires more staff.

"slipped to a 3rd world experience"
Martin Craggs (Oman)
✅ Trip Verified | Amsterdam has now become an airport to be avoided at all costs and times. The transit queues are horrendous, lines 1.5 hours to transit through only two working security points, despite thousands waiting in queues. The airport has lost its shine and attraction, its mojo, its calibre to have once been one of the best in Europe. Now, a former shadow of itself, amenities are poor, food queues are too long, toilets filthy, let alone the aforementioned security transit queues being some of the worse I've ever experienced globally. Seating in the terminal is quite frankly horrible, who thought that hard wooden benches are even remotely comfortable. Dirty passenger areas, unkempt and filthy corridors, works unfinished years after they commenced (yes, I've been using AMS for several years - more on that later). Extreme lack of social seating areas, or remotely family friendly areas. Food court areas, if this can used as a term, are jammed solid for hours. Even sadly, the best bar in AMS, Murphys was forced to close. A travesty, this was the one social point everyone knew and loved. Yes, ok I understand the no smoking at the airport, but the way it has been addressed is draconian. Globally, Schiphol is becoming a pariah of airports, standards slipping to that of an outcast experiment gone wrong. Sorry EHAM/AMS/Schiphol, I used to work there years ago, and it brings tears to my eyes how much your standards have slipped, its poor, its bad. Sort your transit area out. Improve your passenger experience, get better seating or at least clean it, so I don't sit on a wooden chair and stick to it. Get yourself back to the airport you once were, world leading, instead now, you have slipped to a 3rd world experience.

"Kilometres line for security control"
1 reviews P Shihma (Spain)
✅ Trip Verified | What can I say about this airport this over the last couple of years. Amsterdam Schipol airport is like a third world this last two years. Kilometres line for security control, for the passport control and long waiting for the luggage. How is that possible! All they do is announce into the PA "no staff".

"forgotten how nice it is overall"
39 reviews W Keale (United States)
✅ Trip Verified | Transit process for non-Schengen to non-Schengen flights was seamless and logical. No security check required, just follow the ample signage to your gate. The airport is laid out for "lateral flow" of the gates. I'd heard that runway delays were terrible at Schiphol, but my flight from the US made it to its gate only a few minutes late and that was because of delays in the US. There was a long queue at the departure gate, but, even with that, my flight to eastern Europe left only slightly late. The airport has a very modern and "industrial" sort of layout, and is very clean. Even the restrooms were clean. I hadn't used this airport in almost a decade, so I'd forgotten how nice it is overall. Side note: If an Albert Heijn store is convenient for you to walk into, do so. It's one of the best things about the Netherlands, as cliche as that might seem for the Dutch person reading this.

"A pleasant surprise"
A Keare (United Kingdom)
✅ Trip Verified | I was expecting a disaster zone on arrival from Belfast on EasyJet. I was surprised to find it was fairly quiet. The queue for “other passports” at passport control was not too bad - the egates were open for those that can use them - sadly not for British passports any more. I didn’t have luggage to collect but it seemed quiet at baggage reclaim. I went straight through customs and was in the arrivals hall about 30 minutes after landing. A pleasant surprise after all the negative reviews.
