Frankfurt Main Airport

✅ Trip Verified | I do quite a lot of air travel to countries in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and N. America, but had never been to Frankfurt before. Our arrival and departure leads me to rank Frankfurt as one of my worst airport experiences. I should point out that I am a German speaker and Germanophile. Most staff were friendly and the airport is very clean but 1) Signage (T1) is very bad. Finding passport control and baggage collection on arrival was totally confusing as we mingled with departing passengers. I asked an airport employee in German who asked ‘can’t you read the signs?’. I was shocked. The sign pointed to a single obscure gate (see photo) which is why I asked because it just didn’t look like an international arrival gate. 2) Finding toilets is again far from straightforward and often involved long walks. Escalators in landside arrivals were not working and lifts were too small to get more than two passengers and luggage in, so we resorted to carrying a lot of luggage down steps. As a result, we missed our train connection. 3) Arriving just over two hours before a return flight to Canada, the departure board did not go beyond 1.5 hours so we had to ask where the check in was. One of us was just going to London and had already checked in. There were no indications where the bag drop was and so we had to ask again. 4) Security arrangements are years behind other big airports - we queued in a snake for 15 minutes before one by one people put their bags into trays. 5) We could find only one food outlet in departures where we could sit down for a meal and this was table service with a queue of people waiting to be seated. Service itself was friendly and efficient. I did later find one other food outlet but that was on the floor above where there are no departure gates - and it was unsigned, of course. I could go on, but I would just say that Frankfurt is far from being a customer friendly airport.

Not Verified | After an overnight flight from Dubai I arrived at Frankfurt airport at 5.45 am. After standing in line for almost an hour (just to go through security for a connecting flight), a security agent waved in my direction. Since there were people around me, I was not sure who she was waving at. She did not use any words to communicate what she wanted me to do. She started making fun of me in English saying that I’m 'unbelievable' and 'what is it? My fist time flying?' I find these comments rude and offensive. Even if this was my first time flying, this is not how a professional should approach communication. If she wanted me to stand aside, then she should have said 'please, stand here'. Waving and making fun of people is offensive and rude. I think you should have invested in better customer service education as I fly a lot and I never experienced such rude security agents as I always experience in Frankfurt.

✅ Trip Verified | The security check was really impolite and less than communicative. The look on my face did not help it, when you are not smiling because you had a bad day, you get another portion of poor attitude at security again. Being disabled carrying a plastic brace on your foot you will get treated as a terrorist. I have never been told at a security check than I might use a bus next time. This was the worst experience at an airport I have ever been to and I have seen my fair share of them (from New Zealand across China to New York). Yes even the U.S. Customs were more pleasant then Frankfurt. Avoid it whenever you can!

✅ Trip Verified | Horrible customer service. The most unpleasant experience. Rude personnel at the airport and security check up. Disorganized and super long walks to connecting flights. Very poor communication skills.

✅ Trip Verified | Never going here again. We had 1 hour for our connecting flight which should have been enough. We checked the signs in Terminal 1 and headed for our gate to Windhoek. So we found the gate and waited for boarding. That's were it all went wrong. They told us we had a ticket with Air Namibia and not with Condor (which turned out to be Code Sharing flights). The boards did not state this and we did not find any information at all about another flight going to Windhoek at the same exact time but in Terminal 2. So the people at Condor, who were very unhelpful, said we should run to the other terminal to catch our flight with Air Namibia. We rushed through the whole airport and the sky tram but upon arriving at Terminal 2 they told us it was already to late. The only thing we could do was book a new flight for the following day and sleep in a hotel next to the airport which costs us around 2400 euros in total. Will never be going here again and will check for Code Share Flights in the future.

✅ Trip Verified | Used FRA for flying out on 1st August 2019. This airport has nothing which it can boast about being one of the biggest and busiest in Europe. On that day it was overcrowded. One thing which is definitely not taken care of is charging points. It's 2019 and everyone carries atleast two gadgets while traveling. C gates appear to be somewhere away from the airport. Though near to the check-in counters but once I crossed immigration, just one option to shop and none to eat. The one at boarding gate was accessible only after security check which opened just an hour before flight. Toilets looked like built in 1960s and never renovated. My previous experiences at this airport were not so bad. Can't say if I had a bad day or FRA is loosing it.

✅ Trip Verified | Just landed from Vancouver in transit at Frankfurt. 300 passengers disembark and there are only 2 passport control booths open at 830 in the morning to non EU passport holders. There is no system of line management so the line is stretched across a thoroughfare blocking everyone trying to get past. 2 sets of Russian passport holders budge in front and ignore requests to get in line. I thought Germans were known for their efficiency. The rest of the airport is confusing, poorly signed, and dirty. If I had a choice I wouldn’t transit through Frankfurt, unfortunately it is on the Star Alliance routes so will have to suck it up. I had to leave security as I have an 8 hour layover so booked a hotel room. I’m dreading getting back through security - it looked like a mess as I was exiting.

Not Verified | An absolute disgrace, slow and unprofessional staff, lack of communication and misguidance. Overall bad experience. Arrived within 50 mins for connecting flight. There were no signs in terminal building showing where to go. Had to go through security again and queues were so long and staff so slow. They wouldn’t allow us to go up the stairs and took people in small groups to escalator which caused delay. The boarding pass said one gate to enter while they misguided us to a different one. Had to literally run around the airport trying to get to boarding gate. Almost missed our long 11 hour flight by 2 minutes.

Not Verified | Had an hour to get from a gate in zone B to A36, followed the signs that took me through passport control and a luggage check then it was a solid 15 min walk/run to the gate. Thankfully plane was running late. It took me nearly an hour to make the transit. I cant believe Lufthansa sold me this flight, totally unreasonable, if there was a queue I would not have made the flight. Also the baggage check made my bag messy and it didn't fit in the size checker. Also dont buy duty free if passing through this airport its another damn thing they insist on checking. Flying from the UK. Seriously worried about the return journey now.
