"all friendly and welcoming"

Trip Verified | Our check in in the Business area was quick and the check-in agent was very welcoming. We used the express security lane, but this ended up taking as long as the regular line due to some disorganised passengers. Once through Security, we made use of the lounge until our flight. On board the aircraft was spotlessly clean. The pilots were Finnish and the Cabin Crew were Indian. Cabin crew members were all friendly and welcoming and did a great job looking after the passengers. The flight was slightly late leaving, but time was made up on the way and we actually arrived in Delhi slightly early. The food was nicely presented. The salmon caviar and onion / beetroot puree did not appeal to my personal taste, but I enjoyed the chicken curry and both desserts. The seat was comfortable enough to sit in, but lying on it was a bit cramped and uncomfortable. I suffer from claustrophobia when I am in a confined space and lying my back with my legs in the small space felt like lying in a coffin, so when lying, I lay on my sides. I would have preferred the old style seats commonly used by airlines to these seats. They were easy to maneuver into the sleeping position though. There was a reasonable selection of entertainment for the length of the flight, but I was disappointed that the map did not track the aircraft's path and flight. The rest of my family were well looked after and our children got a few hours sleep and we woke them just before the descent. The captain made a nice firm landing into Delhi and all 6 of our bags were safely waiting for us at the baggage carousel when we arrived at it 30 minutes later. A common complaint with reviewers in Skytrax is luggage going missing. I recommend to everyone that you remove the tags and barcode stickers from your luggage either when you collect it, or before you next check it in as machinery in the luggage system may misread and spit luggage with old barcodes out leading to baggage handling mistakes.

"genuinely friendly, welcoming and helpful"

Trip Verified | Check in was easy with a helpful person on the desk at Rome. Boarding was slow due to a large group of disorganised passengers who were blocking the middle of the aircraft, but we pushed back pretty much on time. On board, the crew were very smartly dressed and genuinely friendly, welcoming and helpful. The aircraft (OH-LZS) was clean and tidy - actually I'd say spotless. I was disappointed that for a 3 hour flight, there were no films available on screens and the WIFI had to be paid for, so accessing films via a tablet was not an option. I think Finnair can improve here and also put in some seats with a bit more padding when they refresh the aircraft's interiors. We did purchase some food, which was medicre - my son was not impressed with the pizza, but last night, we did have the most amazing pizzas in Rome which will be hard to beat. The blueberry juice is nice and although I was disappointed that the food I ordered was covered in mayonnaise - it was a generous portion. Disembarking was delayed by about 10 mins due to an issue with the Jetbridge, but this was out of Finnair's control and it meant that our 5 bags were waiting for us on the belt when we arrived to collect them.

"delays and technical errors"

Not Verified | Imagine taking customers and leaving there belongings behind under this horrible weather. All our jackets were in the luggage’s and gods knows when they are gonna come to us. The whole journey was fills delays and technical errors

"is now a budget airline"

Trip Verified | Finnair that used to be the best nordic carrier is now a budget airline masquerading as premium without the low prices. Free Hand luggage is restricted to 1 bag 40x30x15cm. You have absolutely no choice to choose your seat without a fee. You get assigned one and if you want to change to another one, even if it is in for example the middle seat on the other side of the isle, you still have to pay 9 EUR. in addition, the way they communicate the new baggage rules is like policing. The check in desk monitor threatens with "Your carry on luggage will be controlled by the crew" or something like that. I do understand that there might be issues with large amount of carry on luggage but why punish everyone for a few people not being able to follow simple rules? I feel so sorry for the crew that has to endure such awful tactics from a airline that was once the greatest amongst the nordic carries. Sad and stupid. Now I will try to fly Norwegian or BRA on my weekly trips between Stockholm and Helsinki.

"ticket was non-refund/non-changeable"

Trip Verified | Maintenance delay handled inappropriately by cabin staff. We were delayed 1+ hours do to a faulty machine part that needed to be replaced. The staff told us repeatedly during the wait and flight that due to expected tail wind we would easily make the expected arrival time. Turns out we were 1 hour late, which was not announced until we landed. The business class seats are the most uncomfortable I have ever experienced. They do not adjust, and if you're tall as I am (192cm) you simply can not get comfortable lying down or sitting up. I had to return earlier, but the business class ticket was non-refund/non-changeable. I do not remember signing up for non-changeable Business class ticket? The food was really good.

"Really friendly service"

Trip Verified |  Flight delayed 25 minutes but the weather conditions were pretty extreme. Apologies from the captain and cabin crew received. Really friendly service on this short hop. The sandwich was good and a small bottle of wine was fine too.

"no room left for our cabin bags"

Trip Verified | Finnair has passengers sitting in window seats in group 3, those sitting in the middle seat in group 4, and those with aisle seats in group 5. My children and I were therefore in different groups. I asked if we can all board in group 3, and they said no, we all need to board with the last group. This is the first time I was denied this request, which seemed weird since usually airlines board families with young children first. Anyway, we boarded last, and when we got on the plane people were boarding from both the front and the back. Apparently for some reason the airline boarded half the passengers from the back, even those with seats in the front. People were struggling to get to their seats since there were coming both ways. When we managed to reach our seats, there was no room left for our cabin bags, because the other passengers put pretty much anything but cabin bags in the overhead lockers. Coats, jackets, handbags, backpacks, toys, you name it. I would have expected the cabin crew to ask people on a full flight at least hold their jackets on their lap and put their handbags under their seats. We had to reshuffle items in the overhead lockers to find some space for the cabin bags, without any assistance from the cabin crew.

“budget airline masquerading as premium”

Not Verified | Finnair were offering the cheapest business class tickets for a premium airline for the route. But they are clearly a budget airline masquerading as premium. Firstly, they charge an extortionate fee (over £300) for selecting a business class seat. Then, they secretly changed their business class baggage allowance from 2 32kg suitcases to 1 23kg suitcase for flights between Asia and Europe. By the time of the flight they had changed the luggage allowance back to 2 32kg suitcases, but the officious, arrogant, rude and aggressive check in manager in Hong Kong refused to allow more than one suitcase, despite the alliance having changed back. He was demanding an extra £200 to check in another suitcase. It was an awful experience and I will never book a ticket with them again.

"not worth the price"

Not Verified | Not worth the hype. The plane was too cold and beverages were not that good or worth the cost. Cabin crew could have been more helpful. An ok level flight but not worth the price.

“food was surprisingly tasty”

Trip Verified | Very fast check-in in BKK. Priority security pretty efficient. Used CX lounge which was quiet. Late boarding via bus gate, not to blame Finnair. Friendly welcome from the purser who came around for a chat before departure. Mostly Thai crew was also friendly and accommodating. The food was surprisingly tasty and the crew went through the cabin often with fruit, chocolate, snacks etc. I’m one of those who like the new seat which gives a lot of privacy.
