"spent half of the flight crying"

(United States)

Trip Verified |   I booked flights with my credit card points and only had enough points for economy class. The flight was full so I could not upgrade my seats or even select seats in advance. I was assigned a seat when I arrived in the exit row next to the door. I am somewhat over weight but not morbidly obese. My hips are not abnormally big. This seat was fully metal with no holes below the arms. I could barely squeeze into the seat. It was painful to sit in it. I told the flight attendant that I couldn’t fit and she said the flight was full so there were no other seats. I could not buckle the seat belt so I asked for an extender. She said that an extender could not be used for that seat. So she had to go around and ask the entire plane if someone would switch with me. Thankfully a nice couple in the back agreed to switch and my boyfriend and I had to make the walk of shame to the back while the flight attendant had to loudly notify the pilot to delay take off until we could be reseated. People were glaring at us as we walked back. I was mortified and spent half of the flight crying tears of humiliation. Normally the exit row seats afford passengers more room and larger people book them for that reason. I had no trouble fitting into the regular economy class seat and the seatbelt fit fine. Anyone over a size 12 would have struggled to fit in that seat and we all paid to sit in that section. It is not fair to any paying passenger to have less space than the other passengers in that section. Delta is the only airline that makes regular passengers wait until they arrive to receive seating assignments. I will not be purchasing tickets from this airline again.

“customer service was so bad”

(United States)

Trip Verified | Will be leaving more reviews once I can get ticket information from the military. But for this trip, I had 5 bags I needed to take 3 of which I intended on checking. I am active duty Air Force. Because I was unable to furnish orders, despite being in official uniform and having an active duty military ID, the rep at check-in told me I would have to pay for each of my checked bags. This cost me $300 more than what I paid for the ticket. No other airline has ever asked for my orders even when I am not in official uniform. Additionally, the customer service rep was rude. I can handle a simple "our hands are tied" answer, but it was almost as if she was happy to tell me about the extra charge and that no military ID nor uniform made any difference to her. Upon reaching my gate, when in line to board with military personnel, the rep chastised me because one of my checked bags was "too big and too heavy" without touching it. Again, not a big deal if it were as simple as "sorry sir, that bag needs to be checked" but I was treated as though I were a child and should have known better. I saw several bags larger than mine after boarding the plane and checking my second carry-on. The flight itself was fine. But the customer service was so bad I will pay any amount extra to avoid the treatment I received when I flew with Delta.

"Pathetic, yet expensive, experience"

(United States)

Trip Verified | I am writing this review on our return flight back to NC from Arizona. We are in first class, seats 5A and 5B. Same seats we had on the initial flight to Tucson…but different airbus. We have experienced a broken tray, cold temperatures, horrible food, and on this flight, very mediocre flight attendant service. On both flights, by the time they got back to our row (5 - which is the last row in first class) there was no choice for “dinner”. We were stuck (both flights) with the fruit & Cheese box. It was supposed to have grapes - but did not…on either flight. The three tiny slices of apple were old and not cold nor crisp, some dehydrated apricots, a very few almonds that had lost most of their crunch, half of a small hard boiled egg, some rubbery cheese, and four crackers. If that is their idea of dinner, they are sadly lacking. Delta Airlines is cheap! Pathetic, yet expensive, experience! We chose Delta this time just to compare them with American, since those are the only two airlines that fly out of our small city. We will not fly Delta again. It is back to American Airlines for us!

"Delta has gone downhill"

(United States)

Not Verified | Delta has gone downhill with the way they treat their customers. Our flight was cancelled from Florence to the USA and they were not able to rebook us to get in the day we were supposed to. We paid for economy comfort and they put us in economy all the way on the back of the plane. They didn’t pay for our hotel room. It cost us 3 times the amount to use Delta. Save yourself some trouble and use another airline. Delta is not what they used to be nor do they care about their long time customers. We have been Delta customers for over 20 years. I will from now on be using other airlines that I have had better experiences with and better customer service. Absolutely terrible.

"amazing first experience"

(United States)

Trip Verified |   To be the first time flying with Delta I can say that I loved it! I had a layover of 4.5 hrs and asked to David Watson if it was possible to fly on the next flight at 12:30pm (it was 11am) and he made it possible! Me and my daughter landed in SJ Puerto Rico 2 hrs prior our plans. Thank you David and Delta for being that awesome with us. Love all the perks that come with flying with you too. We had an amazing first experience and are planing to have more!

"the seats are horrible"

(United States)

Not Verified | I have been on hundreds of flights in the last 30 years always economy class and never did feel so cramped and uncomfortable as my last Delta flight. The plane was dirty, the seats are horrible, narrow and no leg room I will never fly Delta again.

“a surprisingly enjoyable experience”

(United States)

Trip Verified | Flew NYC to Lisbon and back. Delta provides a surprisingly enjoyable experience: both flights were punctual, fine IFE with lots of fun movies, food and drinks were top notch, friendly crews always happy to provide an extra snack or drink, even an alcoholic one. Also, I fell and hurt my leg the day before my return flight and they let me check my carryon for free.

"upsetting about this was the deceit"

(United States)

Trip Verified | This is the first time I have flown Delta. This flight was scheduled to leave at 1 PM from JFK to Buffalo. It pulled back from the gate. It headed toward the runway, but was turned around and returned to the gate. After waiting 50 minutes with no explanation whatsoever, passengers started getting antsy and asking questions. we were told that there was a piece of equipment mandated by the FAA, that had to be obtained before the plane could leave. We waited an additional 30 minutes. Ultimately, they received a small item that was inconspicuously delivered to a passenger. As it turns out, it was a seatbelt extender. When originally pulling away from the gate, they only had one on board. This particular passenger required a second one. That is what we waited an hour and a half for. It is understood that every person deserves dignity, it is ridiculous to have delayed 90 people a total of two hours, awaiting a seatbelt extender. The passenger requiring this should have been deboarded and placed on the next flight with the appropriate equipment. Additionally, what was most upsetting about this was the deceit. The seatbelt extender was. delivered to the passenger very secretly. The minute it was delivered, we were backed out of the jetway and in a queue of 12 planes to takeoff. Altogether, the delay was 2 to 2 1/2 hours. The flight was a 50 minute flight.

“Very disappointing””

(United States)

Not Verified | I have booked this flight about a week ahead to Austin Texas to attend a family funeral, and I paid $533 for the round trip assuming to get assigned seat. For the departure flight I was given a seat from Ontario to SLC and to Austin Texas. However in my return flight there is no seat assigned either to SLC from Austin or SLC to Ontario. Then I have noticed the available seats have to be sold to passengers who wanted to upgrade, then the left overs will be assigned to a passenger like myself who got the last seat. What is going on in this airline just to profit is not fair. I have noticed there is no respect nor acknowledgement to the passengers booked for economy class. If you charge $533 for economy class Delta airlines should accommodate accordingly. You cannot just toss us to the last row because you have to make more money. Very disappointing. The person who is checking in to the aircraft whose name is Eve didn’t even want to assign me a seat. She kept giving me the run around telling me my name is in the board which wasn’t the whole time. I’m disgusted with this airline and will never book a flight with.
