Transited through Frankfurt many times both from USA, within European cities and departing for Asia
directions. The immigration regime remains very confusing and signage as to which connecting gate and their
locations are very inadequate, adding to the confusion and stress. Recent experiences include international
transit allowance of 2.5 hours which by travelling consensus is adequate. Not so. The usual lame excuse of a
sudden and unexpected influx does not hold water. Airports deal with these things everyday and even if it
happens, it is really and merely a test of its own capability, ie this is what they are there for. The official
position was 45 minutes being the promised benchmark. That time we used 2 hours 10 minutes, walking
quite briskly from one end, through controls and locating and checking directions as we hurried: no second
chance at that moment. I think the fact the Lufthansa had dominated that European region and the Frankfurt
hub so much, no one there thinks there is anything wrong or requiring improvement. We travelling public have
to arm ourselves with this shared knowledge.

Never transfer at this airport if it can be helped. The staff are unhelpful, even at the transfer information
desk who are supposed to assist. The queuing at passport control and security takes ages even when it was
explained to staff that we needed to board another plane. Security are very unhelpful and there is no fast
lane for transfers. The airport is very large and it is hard to find your way about. A number of passengers
missed our transfer going out and the most upsetting thing was it was repeatedly inferred that it was the
passengers fault and not the woeful inadequacies at the airport. This is obviously a regular problem as staff
at the other airports are very helpful when they learn that your flight involves changing at Frankfurt. A very
stressful couple of experiences.

My Wife and I had a very harassing experience last week when travelling back to India via Frankfurt. With
every flight that I take from this airport, my opinion about the Security personnel becomes worse.
They are rude and extremely rough in their behaviour. I understand that the extensive security check and
screening is being done in the best interest of the passengers' safety. But definitely this can be done in a
more polite manner. The Lady at the security check insisted on re-checking my wife's baggage again and
again in spite of being told by other security personnel that everything in the baggage was ok. My Wife was
asked to move the baggage from one security counter to another and if this was not enough, a special
screening was done at a third counter. All this for a chocolate cake that she was carrying in the trolley bag
from Vienna. Unless it is very necessary in the future, I will avoid using this airport.

I and my spouse recently flew thru Frankfurt airport to connect to another EU destination and found the
airport to be a nightmare. Their airport staff were very rude and never really gave us an answer to our
questions except that you are too early for your flight and you need to come back. In the US you are told to
be at your gate 2 hours to get thru security screening etc. Not in Frankfurt. They rush you thru their security
30 minutes before flight and then hope that your gate has not changed by then as well. Very poorly run
airport, if you want your guests to shop at your airport stores etc make them more accessible to the
passengers. We felt like we were in this huge unplanned maze and the staff were very rude and unhelpful.
We will avoid Frankfurt airport at all costs in the future!

Terrible experience in this airport. Arrived with a 3+ hour layover (onto another European country), and the
process of going through immigration and then security was extremely disorganized and far too long.
Immigration line closed, forcing all people (who had been waiting for a long time) to move to another
(already long) line. Security lines long and slow, even priority lanes. Everything took so long that I arrived at
my gate just minutes before boarding time. I will avoid this airport in the future.

Frankfurt is an airport which should be avoided. Distances for arriving passengers from an international arrival
to your rental car is like a marathon. Also the missing escalators in concourse A from the upper
(international) level to the jetways are a catastrophe. When you board from there you have to carry your
hand luggage down the slippery and small staircase and when you arrive on a 747 then 300 passengers have
to drag their hand luggage up the stairs. A total mess especially for older or handicapped passengers. In
Munich they have solved this problem with a short escalator but it seems Frankfurt does not care. Next time
I'll use Dusseldorf or Munich. Frankfurt should learn from Hong Kong and other airports how to get rid of their
inadequate signage.

As many contributors have mentioned, this airport is plagued by queues for almost anything. What always
baffles me is the inability of immigration to enforce the segregation between holders of EU passport and non-
EU passports. This often leads to extended waiting time - particularly for arriving passengers with EU
passports - who rightly expect smooth processing at immigration but are then held back by people with
obscure passports who are in the wrong line. Sadly, immigration officials rarely send them back to the proper
queue and seem happy to see those pax take a hit who adhere to the signage.

Came through on way to Vienna. Flight and gate info clear on electronic boards. Ask questions, in English if
necessary. Don't give up first time you get a growl. Use Sky Trains to get in between terminals. Use several
escalators they simplify things and there are friendly people to advise the way. If you have a boarding pass
printed for your onward journey that was printed outside of Frankfurt, go to the Lufthansa help kiosk and
have a local one printed for all Schengen trips if possible. There are showers, reasonable price, reasonable
wait. Food courts very good. Shopping ample. Go through gates as early as possible. Don't take liquid
through. Buy coke, water etc at boarding gate vending machine. security, take off belt, all metal in tray or
bag to be scanned, shows will be checked. Will always try to go through Frankfurt even at a higher cost.

One of the most poorly managed major airports in the world: poor signage, inadequate directions, masses of
people lined up and waiting for security, passport control or immigration - we even had to line up and wait for
access to the Business Lounge. Not enough sky-bridges to handle all incoming flights so many arriving planes
must park on the tarmac; passengers disembark using mobile stairs and are then bussed to the terminal
(about a 10 mins ride). Passports are checked at disembarkation, then again upon entry to the terminal,
then again at a security checkpoint. There is a checkpoint to check boarding passes in the corridor between
the security checkpoint and the lounge, between gates B42 and B44. For a nation which prides itself on
efficiency and effectiveness, this airport is a shocking disappointment.

Horrible experience on recent trip from Aberdeen to Florence, via Frankfurt. Staff were rude, unhelpful and
patronising. Despite a 3 hour connection time and thinking we were in the right terminal with adequate time,
we were held up by having to go through passport control and baggage again, then getting to our boarding
gate to find it had been changed - resulting in our missing boarding and refused on the flight - which still had
20 minutes until take-off. We had 3 young children with us. Passport control staff were in particular,
extremely rude, as were the Lufthansa staff at the gate. We were held up for at least 20 minutes at passport
control while numerous people pushed their way in front because they had to rush for their flights.

Criticized by its enormous size and sometimes unfriendly security staff, I feel like this airport is pretty
functional and you should be fine as long as your connection is at least 1 hour.

After reading the reviews I was dreading our transfers. If your connection requires changing from terminal A
to Z, you'll have a very long walk. Signage was perfectly clear, restrooms plentiful and clean. Security was
polite and fast. I'd have no hesitation to book through Frankfurt again!

I fly through FRA twice a year and have never had a bad experience. Indeed the walks can be long (especially
from B to A) and the airport maze-like. After a 10 hour flight, I'm eager to stretch my legs and get some
exercise, so I'm not bothered by the distances. The signage is first rate and make the airport easily
navigable. Without question the airport is ageing, but gracefully. It's unmistakably German; it's functional
without much fuss.

Security personnel at all check points very rude and slow. If you transfer from one flight to another you will
need a lot of time to find the right gate. Frankfurt is like a huge labyrinth. There is no transportation service
if you have to change the terminals or a long distance from one gate to another. Even Munich is much better.
Compared to other airports it is terrible and unhygienic.

BER-FRA-SIN. It felt like a labyrinth from one terminal to another. Cant wait for long haul flights out of BER.
Security checks thorough, but quite slow, since one needn't proceed to the specific terminal for their hand
luggage to be checked. Most passengers were nervous about being late.

Frankfurt Airport is a catastrophe in two aspects. Distances to be walked, with ridiculously short conveyors,
and no Skytrain connection between terminals C and A/Z. Waiting area before immigration in Terminal B far
too small, when several planes from non-schengen countries arrive; in addition, queuing is pathetic, with
passengers from the non-schengen countries blocking the EU lanes.

Having had to transfer a number of times in the past few years, I dread having to transfer at FRA again next
month. Too big an airport with unclear or no signage, no staff to be found (especially when arriving late at
night on a long haul flight), impossible layout. I recognise many of the situations described on this website
and avoid going through FRA whenever I can.

Departure from Terminal 1C. Slow passport control, but no lines at security screening and very friendly
security staff. Quiet and clean spaces, friendly but somewhat sombre atmosphere. Wide range of
competitively priced duty-free goods.
