"Staff was professional"
13 reviews B Bauer (Germany)
✅ Trip Verified | Airport is easy to reach by metro, train and taxi. Check in area and departure area have been perfectly clean. In the check in area only few shops and restaurant available, departure area have more choice but I did not use them as I used the lounge. Check in went fast and efficient, same for security check. Staff was professional.

"The traffic of Hongqiao Airport is very convenient"
6 reviews Sun Xiaoou (China)
✅ Trip Verified | The traffic of Hongqiao Airport is very convenient. It is very close to Hongqiao high speed railway station. There are two subways and many airport buses. There are many self-service check-in machines in the check-in area of Hongqiao Airport, which is very convenient. There are many counters open at the manual check-in, so there is almost no need to queue up, but the service attitude of the staff is general. The queuing time of airport security check is too long. There are many restaurants after security, with free wifi. Airport Arrival triage is very good. People without checked luggage can take another channel to leave quickly. But it's not good to wait a long time for luggage. The design of the arrival exit is narrow and crowded.

"Traffic can be very bad here"
W Baker (United States)
✅ Trip Verified | This is the second airport in Shanghai and has a train station next to it. Traffic can be very bad here, especially during holidays so recommend giving yourself some extra time or take the subway. Security is just ok, does move slow often and not many lanes open. Restaurants are better here than PVG and there are options on the other side of security. Shops are plentiful and appear to be good for alcohol, candy, perfumes, and Chinese goods. The only large issue is the lack of jetway use. This airport likes to make passengers take a bus, especially when arriving here. Even if it rains they still make you go outside. Not sure why when jetways are open but it’s happen 6 times for me out of the 10 times I’ve used this airport. Also I would avoid flying into this airport at night because they will make take a bus and it adds about 30-45 minutes on to your travel time. Bags arrive at a good rate and there are taxi stands outside. Just avoid the people asking to give you rides, just like most airports, they will charge you more and technically are breaking the law by being there. I always just ignore and go outside to taxi lines, which move quickly. Tip: Avoid travel during Chinese vacations. This will save you loads of time because when Chinese travel they all use train, next door, and taxi lines are ridiculously long.

"a bit out of order"

The set of counters of Cathay Dragon was a bit out of order, since every counter was excessively full due to the great number of passengers (Business Class and Marco Polo Club and Oneworld Members).

"lovely, helpful staff"
Daniel Kelly (Australia)
✅ Trip Verified | I arrived at T2 Terminal Hongqiao. Used the Sky Priority Customer Service. Lovely, helpful staff who helped me with my oversized baggage. I was stressed about it, and the team helped me without a problem. Then even showed me clearly were to go, as well as showing me were Sky Priority Lounge was. I couldn’t be more grateful for their good service.

"Airport is clean and very clear"
24 reviews A Haller (Germany)
✅ Trip Verified | Flew Shanghai to Tinajin. Although crowded at times in the summer heat, everything went well. Check-in queues were very long. I was lucky to check in at one of the numerous golden pass counters as have been invited by my companion. Although Hongqiao is for domestic flights, it is not difficult for a foreigner like me to have the right orientation. Airport is clean and very clear and correspond to high international standards.

"the airport was pretty average-ish"
K Richards (Australia)
✅ Trip Verified | Shanghai Hongqiao Airport is a good airport by Chinese Airport standards, but is not up to International Airport standards. Overall experience of the airport was pretty average-ish. The only plus value of this airport is the accessibility to Shanghai Railway Station and two Shanghai metro lines. Not recommended for stays of more than 1 hour.

"never at an international airport"
Anthony Mitchell (United Kingdom)
✅ Verified Review | I arrived at the airport from London Heathrow and travelled via Beijing. On arrival at Terminal 2 it was nearing 10 pm and I had been travelling for over 18 hours. I wanted to get a taxi to the hotel and go to bed. However none of the ATM's in the terminal accepted any of my debit cards. I have had trouble in the past in rural areas but never at an international airport. I was told to go to terminal one which had international arrivals and try there. Fortunately the shuttle bus was free and I go to terminal 1. Only one of the ATM's there (which also happened to be the last one I tried) accepted my card (with one other machine down.) At other Chinese airports (Beijing and Xi'An Xingang) they have always had ATM's from the big four banks - Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Bank of China, China Construction Bank, Agricultural Bank of China. I have never had a problem getting cash from these banks. I would also note that the underground station just outside terminal one has multiple big four ATM's and is an excellent way to travel into the city. I finally got to my hotel at midnight, I wrote to the Airport while in China but never received a response.

"airport staff were very unhelpful"
Winnie Hon (Hong Kong)
I took the subway from my hostel to the 1st terminal of Hongqiao airport, the airport is pretty close to the downtown, however the subway is quite far from the airport and there was no exit inside the airport. The food choice in the airport was insufficient. Airport staff were very unhelpful. I tried to find a place to return my metro card and get back the deposit, but the subway staff refused to handle it for me. When I tried to seek help from airport staff, they either do not know where to do the return or told me to go back to the subway station which is quite far from the airport. Inside the airport, the air-conditioning system was very bad. The direction to the check-in counter and the boarding gates was unclear and insufficient. Not enough facilities in the airport, for example ATM or bank counters.

"not many restaurants and shops"
7 reviews B Chang (United States)
Overall, Shanghai Hongqiao is a good airport if you are flying domestically. There is not much you can do inside the terminal. There are not many restaurants and shops there. On the up side, you don't need to arrive too early for departure because wait times are typically not terrible. Arrival can a bit painful, since you may have to walk pretty long distances to get to the exit. Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station is adjacent to the airport and they are connected indoors, thus if you need to make a transfer between a flight and high speed train, it will be easy.
