"immigration at arrival took 40+ minutes"

Trip Verified | Overall, a great airport with great facilities and ample outlets to eat/drink/shop. The only issue about this airport is the queues at immigration and security, which is serious. For instance, immigration at arrival took 40+ minutes although there were only ~15 people in front of me and this was because only 3 windows were open for processing.

"No bookstore or magazine stand"

Trip Verified | No bookstore or magazine stand. Our flight was delayed and except for the ridiculously priced shops, there was nowhere a person could buy a book to read while waiting for the delayed flight. I find this unacceptable as most flights with Air Mauritius will be delayed at some point during your trip, so please assist passengers that are not glued to their phones and would actually like to purchase a book to read.

"well-organized, secure, and clean"

Trip Verified | The airport is well-organized, secure, and clean, with nearly all services available. The crew at Air Mauritius is extremely professional, and they go above and above to execute their jobs in a courteous and professional manner. Nishi, the travel consultant/passenger service, is amazing in terms of customer service and taking care of passengers with a smile and enthusiasm.

"A pleasant airport"

Trip Verified | A pleasant airport. Our flight arrived at 09.30 and even though we had to do a COVID test at the airport we completed all the formalities and left the airport within 40 minutes. On departure the flight was at 21.50 and at this time there were a reasonable number of international flights also departing, however the check in and security checks were quite quick. After security there is a large duty free shop as well as some smaller shops and food/beverage outlets. The terminal was clean and tidy. Obviously the airport is not yet operating at full capacity but our experience was fine. Only letdown was the poor WiFi.

"best island airport"

Trip Verified | Probably the best island airport in the Indian Ocean. Well designed structure, the only challenge is the long queue in the immigration hall. The authorities need to arrange extra officers during peak timings.

"terminal was nice and clean"

Trip Verified | Check in was slow but this was the airlines responsibility and not a reflection on the airport. Signage around the airport is good and the terminal was nice and clean. There is no smoking anywhere inside the airport. Smoking is only permitted in designated areas outside the terminal building. As I was a business class passenger, I used the fast track through passport control and security and I was pleased I could, as the queue to use the normal passenger route was very long indeed. Security screening was as efficient as it could be, and the only delay to the process was passengers unpacking items which needed to be screened separately. It still amazes me that passengers still don’t know how items need to be separated for screening and what items should be removed from the body, belts, coins, watches etc. So passengers slowed the process and not the screening and security staff. There is a good amount of seating available in the departure lounge. A good range of shopping and food and beverages is available in the departure lounge but there is no electronics shop. 3 hours free WiFi is available and while speed isn’t fantastic, it’s sufficient.

"I was extremely impressed"

Trip Verified | I was extremely impressed. My flight from Paris arrived at 05:35 and there was a bit of a walk from the arrival gate to immigration, but there didn’t appear to be any other arriving flights. There was no queue and I was processed within seconds of arriving at immigration. On arrival at baggage reclaim my bag was already on the carousel. I think it’s safe to say I was out of the airport within 20 minutes of arrival.

"They should hire more efficient staff "

Not Verified | This was our second trip to Mauritius and we are still coming back regardless of the horrible waiting at the airport for passport control. I have 3 small kids and we had to wait 2 hours to get through. My watch has a timer on and the kids and I actually timed how long it took the staff to process passports. It took 10 min per 1-2 tourist at a time. This is the high season and it is horrible. They should hire more efficient staff and extra for peak seasons!

"I got everything back"

Trip Verified | Arrived after a very long journey and must have been very sleepy when leaving the aircraft so I forgot my wallet on board. Noticed it after the immigration and panicked. Wasn’t allowed to go back but the friendly immigration officer told me to contact the ground service in the arrival hall. A lovely lady immediately made a call and after 15-20 minutes I got everything back, the cash, cards etc. Fantastic. Immigration was really fast and so was the baggage delivery. Hopefully the departure process will be as good!

"the worst airport for arrival"

Not Verified | Probably the worst airport for arrival we have ever experience. Took 90 minutes to get through immigration and some of the officers decided to leave half way through when there was hundreds of people in the queue. This has been the case for years and every time I visited the island there would be 2 officers working and hundreds of passengers who have flown for more than 12 hours waiting to go through. And their attitudes stinks too. They don’t care. Being a Mauritian myself I am ashamed of their behaviours. It great building new airport, but please spend some money to train these guys in how to welcome people in their country.
